I had used Aspiration Integration and Rejuvenation to recover from a few bad burnouts. The first burnout was because I overworked. The second was because of bad relationship. As a part of Rejuvenation, I meditated, practiced yoga and qigong everyday for about a year. It also gave me time to reflect what's going on with my life and what's most important for me. I've also shared AIR with my clients and they found great results even though they were skeptical at first. Meditate, yoga, qigong and Taichi may not be for you. I have a bit similar story of yours. I’ve officially been diagnosed PTSD by psychiatrist. I do have depression, severe anxiety and burn out. Usually these 3 symptoms go hand in hand. PTSD doesn’t go without depression, and anxiety. I’ve been in these condition due to narcissistic bosses, narcissistic ex husband. After divorce I fell into this condition. All I can say and recommend, what really works for me is therapy with my psychologist and mild antidepressant. So at least I can function and get up from bed. Work so far has been greatest challenge. But as I said, burn out is very similar to depression. And there is no direct way of healing depression. You just need to find what works for you. If you don’t try there will be no result. Wishing you peace and healing ❤️🩹
I am sick and tired of people nonchalantly saying: "Just sleep 8 (or more) hours a day", as if it is as easy as turning on or off a light-switch! It is empty advise.
@@tr1ckshot514 Are you just trolling? Or are you totally unaware of the fact that some people have serious problems with falling asleep, staying asleep, sleeping long enough, etc.?
wind down routine - no phone in bedroom, maybe a bath, reading or music before bed - but if you can't get off because your mind is racing then mediate or journal - eating a little if you wake up can help you get back to sleep. But you have to discover what works for you - I know that my REM cycles last around 1.5hrs so if I want 5mins more - I ask myself do you want to be waking up in a panic in 90mins time.. I find it easier to mediate and tie up my day in the morning. Good luck
Absolute BS. First, this is NOT recovery, it’s prevention. Second, Allan here was stressed, NOT burnt out. Finally, the fact he says to just “get more sleep” proves he has NO CLUE what burn out really is. Keep searching people and good luck.
I naturally sleep A LOT and experience massive burnouts. Maybe my partner always wanting to have S with me has to do with this…loll. I feel too loved physically but emotionally he’s a dud.
As much as i love internet and all of this good knowledge i found free, maybe we need sometimes to be alone and fully heal, leaving all the fakery and mask behind, self serving solitude and peaceful life....
Part of the problem with burnout is WE CAN'T SLEEP. Honestly, doesn't seem like the speaker knows or understands true burnout where you lie awake most the night despite sleep aids used to STOP the nightmares about the horror that is your job. It has turned me into someone I no longer recognize. The things suggested are things I did a year ago. There is no way to get fired up anymore.
There's always hope :) For me, Jesus is that hope. No matter how much I mess up, I can pray to Him, and He guides me to the better path. I'm experiencing burnout as well and it's terrible, but losing hope doesn't bring any change, but constantly trying to find the way to get better is the way to eventually win, and this is what Jesus can do.
i just realized that when we Muslims pray 5 times a day its our mini charge, and since we are supposed to sleep immediately after our last prayer (isha) so that we can wake up for our early morning prayer (Fajr) we must sleep early so we pretty much get our full sleep in! altogether this prevents a Burnout!
@@theallanting thanks for the concern Allan. I appreciate it. Just getting back in balance from working 100+ hour weeks, then took a job working 70+. Did this for years. Feeling much better after some time off and refocusing. Thanks my friend.
I really hope things are going better for you . I'm a doctor , I work in the biggest hospital in my country and I experienced a bad burn out few weeks ago . I didn't even realise it was that . I'm still recovering from it . But if I can share some advices : take time for yourself. You need to recover physically and mentally. Clean your mind from all the negative thoughts. Find a physical activity that suits you , and do it to clean yourself from stress and anxiety, not for the performance. Surround yourself with positive people and positive vibes. And the best advice that I can give : start a project that excites you . Related to your job , your personal life , your passion , ANYTHING. As long as you find it exciting, that will improve your mood , your energy level , and help you forget about this burn out. Good luck . :)
AIR: Aspiration: what are you working for? Do you feel it's worth your time and energy, or are you just tossing more coal in the misery engine? (I find this one to be a struggle personally) Integration: you are a multipolar individual who needs to act in multiple spheres. If you make promises in one sphere that take you too far away from another you will suffer. Rejuvenation: a car can't go 65 on the highway forever. Eventually it will need to be serviced to prevent breakdown.
Yes you bring up a good point. For TEDx talk, we're only allotted 10-15 min per talk. This topic could be easily extrapolated to a couple of days of course in just one section of the talk. Do you suffer from real burnout?

I have a well thought sekf care plan, however, with the job I'm currently in, it's impossible to recover. The only solution, after working there miserably for 6 months, is leaving. No job is worth my sanity.
Hi Bea. I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. Yes sometime the best way to avoid a total burnout is to leave the job. Many employees don't leave the company. They leave because of their immediate manager. I hope you're able to find a job that you love. Do you have any questions?
I burned out in my job years ago. Mistreatment will do that to ya. I finally vacated my position during Thanksgiving. I'm now "out" and healing. I truly understand what frayed nerves feel like. Not good.
As a counsellor I'm required to report to a supervisor to ensure everything is going ok with me. One way I have learned to prevent burnout is to have a space or time for myself, to be able to say "That's enough for today, time for play"
For me it worked in reverse. I would try and set time to relax but that only lead people to saying "What are you doing?!" And "You're wasting your time, go work!"
Thanks Allan! I really appreciate your sharing this journey with us. Your three best practices are so basic, and so important! Thanks for the breath of AIR :-)
Being a Muslim I feel blessed that our religion has rejuvenation opportunity 5 times a day in the form of Salah prayers in which we strengthen our connection to Allah subhana taala Who is our Creator and feel rejuvenated and content. And one can turn to Allah any time 24/7 Alhumdulillah
Employees are more and more treated like their job and task is the central part of their life. Like you are on survival mode. It is not. Whenever I am hired on a project I have to spend around 70 hours a week to keep it rolling and still it looks like I'm slacking; so my income is actually less than half I was contracted for. Fight back and make yourself more important than the company your working for, even if you need to walk on bodies for your liberation.

I just rely on sarcasm and caffeine to survive everyday at work. Suffer through burnout for 4 months. Take a week of vacation off and then I feel like a million dollars. Then go back for four more months and repeat. I just keep reminding myself that in 8 more years I'll only have to work for 3 months between vacation weeks. "The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. " Robin Sharma. Change is terrifying, even when you know that it is what is best for you a part of you will always fight it. My only advice is to always listen to your gut because at times your heart and your mind will direct you off of a cliff even though you trust them fully. Life reveals it's truth in layers that take time to unfold so don't ever be too certain of what you think that you know to be true because that moment of hubris when you believe that you finally know what's up is the endorphins in your brain firing off to blind you from the pain as an angel clips your wings. Nobody knows that they are falling until they hit the cold hard ground.

Although, my chinese (cantonese) husband isn't helping me much with the kids i think he's struggling as well and being very stubborn about it, do you have any ideas about that? Kind regards, Elena
Hi Elena! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. There is a proverb in Chinese that "Save the green mountain, you'll never have to worry about having enough logs for fire." This holds true for our health. Take good care of our health, both mental and physical first and it'll help us manage our stress and burnout more effectively. In regards to your husband, everyone has their own timeline. Start with yourself. When he sees that you're in an even better mood, healthy and vibrant, he's going to notice a difference. He just might ask you how you did it! :)
How to overcome burnout: have people think you overcome burnout without them realizing that you just quit working. Is your mom proud of your new career as a motivational speaker: yes. Do I actually get new cognitive skills in coping with burnout: NO!
How about employee burn out due to being a single mom of a special needs child? Forever spirally in having to choose between my job and my hospitalized child. Now your resume is in shreds so you constantly have to approach any job opportunity with everything you’ve (no matter how beneath your experience) got to prove yourself only to be written up because your home health agency that takes care of your child so that you CAN go to work and school never showed up! Where does that leave you??????
This is unrealistic for a lot of Americans. A lot of us cannot afford to travel or take days off or don’t work for companies who are willing to be flexible enough to let us set boundaries.
Absolutely. That's why we need a contingency plan when you really can't take it anymore but also consider addressing whether it's financial issues that would result from taking days off, which means what can we do to substitute the chance in employment or how can I reduce my expense? For example, my job can translate into virtual online-type of work though salary would be reduced by a lot down to 1/3 (I work 80 hours per week with no overtime pay and I didn't account for my half-hr lunch per day); however, still livable since I don't splurge on anything, etc etc. Prepping when the time comes is something all Americans need to do when you just mentally explode. Sell the house, live in a $400 per month room. Tell your kids to join ROTC in college to pay for college and if they don't want to get deployed...just be an I.T. or a military dentist officer, etc. There's no easy solution...but we each have to map contingencies.
@@wwlee5 There is no 400 per month room. And even then that’s not counting all of the other expenses, utilities, gas, insurances. All of these things are important. You are out of touch and you don’t speak for the average working American which makes up well over 50% of the workforce.
Why do the HRs of the big companies ask each other instead of asking employees about what THEY need in order not to burn out? Maybe less pressure from above? Less tasks, less stress, more support, more flexibility, more vacation, more employees hired to spread tasks, whatever?

It’s easy just maintain a schedule and stick to it
@@tr1ckshot514 Are you just trolling?
Good luck
@@rossgeography 'Meditate', "mediation" is something entirely different>
People who say that clearly never experienced insomnia and panic attacks
Absolute BS. First, this is NOT recovery, it’s prevention. Second, Allan here was stressed, NOT burnt out. Finally, the fact he says to just “get more sleep” proves he has NO CLUE what burn out really is. Keep searching people and good luck.
I naturally sleep A LOT and experience massive burnouts. Maybe my partner always wanting to have S with me has to do with this…loll. I feel too loved physically but emotionally he’s a dud.

Right? isn't that what most doctor recommends?
What's worse than burnout? Living with people who cannot understand the concept of burnout.
Thank you brother

Good luck . :)

Never quit your job

AIR:
Aspiration: what are you working for? Do you feel it's worth your time and energy, or are you just tossing more coal in the misery engine? (I find this one to be a struggle personally)
Integration: you are a multipolar individual who needs to act in multiple spheres. If you make promises in one sphere that take you too far away from another you will suffer.
Rejuvenation: a car can't go 65 on the highway forever. Eventually it will need to be serviced to prevent breakdown.
Thank you!
I love you dude you changed my life
This helped a lot, thanks to Ted talk
Nice advice, but not for people who are suffering from real burnout. This is some 101 stuff.
Yes you bring up a good point. For TEDx talk, we're only allotted 10-15 min per talk. This topic could be easily extrapolated to a couple of days of course in just one section of the talk. Do you suffer from real burnout?
Agree.
I love when they’re like, “get 7 hours of sleep”. Ok sure. I’ll just tell my insomnia to take a break.
Sorry to hear about your insomnia. Yes it's very hard to turn off as I've been there before. Have you tried consistent exercising and/or yoga/meditation?

As a counsellor I'm required to report to a supervisor to ensure everything is going ok with me. One way I have learned to prevent burnout is to have a space or time for myself, to be able to say "That's enough for today, time for play"
@Johnny Five Speaking only from an Australian point of view, but it's a legal requirement for us, also to report to a supervisor at least fortnightly.
For me it worked in reverse. I would try and set time to relax but that only lead people to saying "What are you doing?!" And "You're wasting your time, go work!"
