Honestly this archetype feels right out of a parallel timeline GX era set, a sort of counterpart to the Gladiator Beasts with there battle effects but didn't need the cycling to pull of there effects. But they came out in 2021, they were never going to survive.

It explains alot of things go wrong... the lack of good downsides also didn't help as well... War Rock's bad spot is honestly a result of what's around it, and heavy reliance on Crowd control effect... written off hopelessness got me wondering on a Roguelike format that would try to encourage cards that would be written off as "not usable" to be usable

So quick note, we also have access to synchro plays with level 6-8 synchros thanks to T.G. Striker who is a level 2 earth warrior that can special summon itself from the hand along with Gaktos. Meaning this gives us access to the GOYO SYNCHRO PACKAGE! And because they are mostly earth warriors they get boosted by the battle effects of our war rocks! Letting us steal their big boss monsters with Goyo Guardian and then use them for link material for our link monsters!
In addition to this we can also tech in The A. Forces to give us an even greater boost for fighting stuff as it boosts warriors by 200 for each warrior and the effect STACKS for EACH COPY in play meaning with 3 copies in play you can get a maximum boost of 3600 to all of your warriors if you have 6 on the field!

Almost everything you mentioned in this video is something I figured out trying to build War Rock after like an hour in the tank. Though I am a little disappointed that you didn't include Ra'Ten the Heavenly General as an ED option. It's another Earth Warrior with a slightly easier summoning requirement than BLS, can field more War Rocks if you set your field up correctly and even has free removal at the start of the battle phase.
EDIT: Waboku is also an interesting tech card, especially for more casual or budget players. Its defensive strategy is obvious but it can also be used offensively allowing your smaller War Rocks to attack with battle immunity

As a diehard War Rock fan, I gotta say Meteoragon is my favorite. You'd be surprised how few people know how to deal with him. On another note, consider also Double Summon and Spirit Barrier for some extra utility. Double Summon will help with getting bodies on the field quickly, which War Rocks tend to struggle with, whereas Spirit Barrier has provided me with some interesting kamikaze strategies; if my opponent is playing too passively and just summons big beaters without attacking, Spirit Barrier keeps my life points safe so I can throw a Gactos or something into the enemy on a suicide mission to get the effect ball rolling.

Theres a card called Time Tearing Morganite that im about to start playing for this deck. It feels like that card was also made for it. Its also a rather good replacement for war rock ordeal, because it gives u " rest of the duel" 2 draw phase and a "rest of the duel" 2 norm summon, which if u add double summon ir arrivalrivals to that u can effectivly get 3 normal summons in one turn. I also play " the monarchs stormforth in that deck, for the 5 stars and 6 stars, that kinda ticks off my opponent when playing in my freind group.

  • @troublemaker001
    @troublemaker001 Рік тому +4

Hello, avid War Rock enjoyer here! I absolutely loved this analysis video on one of my favorite archetypes. Yes, people may call them bad, but in my heart, they are one of the most flexible warriors that don't necessarily lock themselves to their archetype, as the worst they can do is lock you into Warriors which is not a big deal at all.
So here's my 2 cents on how to play War Rocks:
You can play them like a control deck. Sure, that may not sound fun or any better decks that can control the field better...but they're funny when they do it. Consider just forgetting using the Extra Deck and just put in cards like Ultimate Slayer, Dogmatika Punishment and even the duly hated Dimensional Barrier to effectively lower your opponent's options plus a way for the archetype to have non-battle phase related interruptions. If you want to survive a Battle Phase, aside from the mentioned Rookie Warrior Lady, you can also use Spirit of Neos (which is an unkillable body in battle and searches Poly for the fusion variants) or D-Hero Dynatag (which is searchable with Idaten! Though, that ultimately depends on you.). You also have access to Therion "Bull" Ain, for a pop. Good thing they have that huh?
Now if you want to *hard* focus on the battle aspect of the deck's gimmick, you already have options, again, listed in the video. More specifically however, the Heroic archetype enables the one thing that War Rocks surprisingly cannot do: OTK. With Heroic Morningstar being the most free extender AND searches any of the heroic spells that *also* extend, and it's a recipe for a gigantic disaster if your opponent does not stop you.
The fusion variant is where things get...creative. As mentioned, Kaiki and Kaiza are great picks but did you know they are a part of a very small archetype all about Warrior fusioning? The best one by far is Todoroki, which can easily special itself from the hand and is a quick effect poly in the Battle Phase, meaning if Todoroki attacks, you can immediately use its effect to poly to get another beatstick on the field.
There are a LOT of things you can experiment with the archetype and needless to say, that's what makes them so fun. They open a lot of things for what they already are (gactos extensions, mountain protection, spirit negate) and truly, I hope people give them a chance. Who knows, you might just unleash a great big War with powerful Rocks.
(Sorry. Okay, maybe not. Yeah, I'm not sorry.)

I absolutely love War Rocks and have for awhile. I saw people giving them a hard time, but after playing around I realized they're the perfect "Let's see if you Actually know the rules" type deck, cause a lot of modern builds just have keycards you just near brainlessly do. I cannot tell you how many people have instaquit after mindlessly throwing their DPE at Meteoragon or having their "Infinichain" get shattered just cause one well placed Dignity knocked down their carefully placed chain. People don't respect war rock, and that makes it the perfect deck to curveball an unsuspecting Meta-Deck, cause you present challenges nobody is really "trained" for in this day and age. I dont think War Rocks are revolutionary or groundbreaking or can shake up the meta at this current time and maybe not in the future. But it is my favorite off meta, non-rogue deck that I have fun with playing with and theorycrafting with. When you play meta, youre usually just copying a better player or a strat that is already proven to be successful. This deck encourages exploring and adventuring. It's also a deck that not alot of people are expecting to see. A deck that will get you hazed abit. A deck that will cause you to grief abit.
My favorite War Rock is War Rock Generations. For its lore implications. Meteoragon going head to head Bashileos. To kinda show the new generation vs the old generation. Which also, and kind of, implies there will be some evolutions to some of the War Rock targets or evolution to the War Rock archetype as a whole. Which I am hoping is a Link-1 target like the new VS archetype are getting.

From what I remember of that duel, War Rocks is an archetype in which you are pretty much obligated to beat them at their own game and QUICKLY, since that in the long run you’ll end up facing a full board of monsters that can erase you from existence.
And after seeing this video, I’m pretty sure that the favorite strategy of this tribe is the WAR of attrition

A side note that i dont think was mentioned about Meteroragon is that his quick effect is the only effect out of every war rock monster that isnt a hard once per turn. So that means if u had 3 Meteroragons on the field they can all use their effects in the same turn which would net each of them an extra 600 attack and all three can attack monsters twice, (6 attacks). Do with that info what u will.

Would make for a fantastic video game where it’s a Pokémon like experience you have a character and you get to build your deck with only single copies of cards like the anime lol. Through A.I any card you play will be called out and there’s a summon animation for every monster level 8 and above. Or every monster gets a summon animation and level 8s and above get a unique attack cutscene maybe.

As someone who has been playing War Rock since release, it can be surprisingly playable as a blind second deck. I have very fond memories of playing this at locals and seeing people try to out Meteoragon with stuff like Accesscode and DPE which he hilariously hard counters! I mix mine with a small Heroic package to give further extension going second for some rank 4 plays before committing to the battle phase. If your opponent doesn't read your cards, you can get away with some very cheesy wins!

Says worst archetype. Video isn't about Ursarctic. I've seen a War Rock beat a Tearlaments deck during Tear's tier 0 status for fuck's sake.
And, yes, it was just War Rock, no additional engine.
My favorite tech with Medium is Parthian Shot.
Opponent can't activate monster effects in the main phase because of Medium, but can't activate them, so they rush through Main 1 and the BP to get to Main 2 and they get hit with that.
Wasn't aware of Terminal World. I like it more, as it's less likely to get shot by an opponent who fears set backrow.
On the note of Attack Gainer; while Naturia Beast isn't a Warrior, it is a nasty floodgate.

I've been saying and a have to yell it a lot, It Depends On How You Build Your Deck And How You Play!
I don't see others complaining about Basic Insect because it's clearly a weak card but you can do more with it too, someone buffed MAXX C and won then any weak card is a good one "IF":
"You have to know how to play the card and use the card."
    -Zane Trusdale
You have to find that sweet spot for war rocks, you gotta combine them, but they'll say they're only playable if "this" archetype carries them, stupid excuse, that's how combo decks work, and how decks work, you meld cards you like into a deck.
Besides, War Rocks were intentionally made simple, it's a reflection of the ol days of Yu-Gi-Oh, all battle phase and not main phase 20 negates "HA HA you can't Play the game" type of stuff.

.....so here's the the thing with me, I only know War Rocks by name alone and nothing else. I didn't hear or listen to the gossip around it, so I know next to zip to this archetype. That being said I personally think that this isn't THEE worst archetype I've heard of (and the very detailed card combos shown in vid helped show the actual good potential this deck has) I'd say it's a very strategy focus mid deck that use CC to control the field on the opponents turn, and then goes into its battle oriented strengths on my turn while still using some CC effects to help my odds.
Actually this archetype reminds me of a table top strategy game mentality. Position your units in the right place and plan out your future moves, then study what your opponent does and use the resources you have to work around that and try to break down your opponents forces and leave them in a weaken state that you can control the game hence forth.

It's not that I don't think a battle centered archetype is bad, my issue is battle centered archetypes feel held back. What if there was an archetype that made every phase a pseudo battle phase, where they can attack in any phase and gain effects based off that phase they attacked in for example? War rocks and the rest of the battle focused archetypes are held back by 1 phase, inside of that vacuum phase where they can get their effects off their completely fine but outside of that what do they really do? Battle based archetypes just seem to lack potential no matter how good their effects are ya know what I mean. Look I'll call war rocks better then some older archetypes but its held back by being a battle based archetype.

The purpose of having life points is so that they can be taken away. Thats where the battle phase comes in. Decks like heroics, gladiator beasts, Gouki' , battlin boxers, etc utilize the battle phase to end the game. To say they lack potential dosent really make much sense, since the game is also won by reducing ur opponents life points to zero. Attacks outside of that phase would be odd. But if ur trying to insuinate that theres no uniqueness to these decks. Well lets go over each spesific type of battle phase u can have with these decks. Gladitor beasts focus on battling so that they can tag out, heroitcs focus on dealing game ending blows in one attack. Goukis fixate on both u and ur opponents defence stats, and taking advantage of both to win fights, and war rocks ( dispite what anyone will tell u) also have a unique battle phase situation. War rocks gain benifits from.battling ( at all) which can cause some pretty crazy chains from just one battle. Their battle phases are very simular to glad beats, the key diffrences is the tag out , the war rocks focus on building attack while searching, back row clearing, negating monster effects, or summoning a deceased rock bro all in one chain. Tgis alone makes them unique even amonst each other. So to say there no potential in that is to say, ur not paying attention to what attacks u in the battle phase or why its doing so.
