I struggle a lot with frizz and in my crown area my curls are always frizzy and look toasted 😔 I recently have seen diffusing and leavins are good for that so I will begin to save up so hopefully I can soon start taking more care of my curls. Thanks so much this was very informative 💗💗💗💗
Where are you from? Is it humid where you live? I know I covered a LOT of ingredients and tips in this video, but no need to take notes or screenshots because I summed it ALL up over on my blog: genamarie.co/2020/06/frizz-free-curls-in-humidity-ingredients-to-avoid-to-use/
I'm from pa and it is often humid more than not. I dont mind as much since I stopped blowing my hair put but im wondering if glycerin is good or bad for me
Gob well done -- Organized, research-based, relevant, and comprehensive. Thank you for speaking to low porosity; providing tested tips; modeling, and coming back with an update.
Dry hair is the one that most people feel “moisturized”, smooth and shiny. This why high humidity makes hair seem frizzy. You actually don’t want moisture to feel “moisturized”, the marketing term actually means using emollients/oils to prevent moisture causing further issues. In dry conditions, the problem is mostly static which is a little different from the frizz caused by humidity and cationic agents can address this issue. Washing can make hair brittle if not sufficiently replaced with emollients which pretty much any product has. For most curly hair folks, humid weather makes it harder to style than dry weather The problem with oils/silicones is not the moisture barrier from humidity in the air but rather preventing solubility of other products since water is the solvent when wet/damp styling. This also depends on how much oils are there coating the hair. Note that all barriers and film formers are uneven. Never uniform and perfect.
I have to tell you how much I appreciate you discussing how certain ingredients can affect hair in dry climates, like they can affect hair in humid climates. So many influencers talk about the affects of humidity on hair, but not dry climates on hair. Living in a dry climate, I can never find advice on dealing with curly hair in my climate, UNTIL NOW! Thank you so much! Finally, some useful information for dealing with frizz, my number one hair challenge, in my climate! ❤️
So glad that you mentioned film forming humectants. They are the only thing that works on my fine low porosity hair in the very low dew point climate i live in. I especially like flax, aloe and the celluloses.
The as I am leave-in conditionner and their jelly are really good for humid climates because of their ingredients and I think they are quite accessible in Europe, at least in France and in Luxembourg. I honestly have only tried their leave-in, I will have to try their jelly as well
Thank you soooo much for this video! This sciencey stuff is phew! 😅 I’ve never really understood why my hair can look great when I style indoors and the minute I go out it reacts and turns to frizzy poop! 💩🤣 By the end of the day nothing works... but then if I put it in a pineapple to sleep the next morning it looks better?! Then as soon as I go out/move around it looses definition and frizzes... and endless cycle of fighting with my hair! 😬 Plus I live in the UK where we can literally experience all the seasons in one week! 🥴 Better study your blog...! Thank you! You are a curly girl guardian angel 😇❤️
This is really helpful info! Thank you! I live in Iowa, super humid in the summer and just as dry in the winter and am fighting frizz constantly. It was helpful the way you broke down the ingredients and explained what they do etc. Thanks again!
My hair is quite sensitive to glycerine, but I'm currently having fairly good success with the Giovanni strong hold gel. I use a lot of the Jessiecurl products, but the spiralicious wasn't giving me either a cast or any hold, so I'm using the giovanni on top for more hold. It is working fairly well. I struggle to use a lot of highly scented products due to sensitivity/eczema, but just using the scented gel seems to be ok. The no added fragrance line from Jessiecurl doesn't irritate my scalp/skin and I love the conditioner and deep conditioner for slip. I mix the coil cream and rockin ringlets for definition and seal in with the gels for hair I can refresh for up to seven days. I have long thick hair which is very hot to leave down in Summer so I use scrunchies, clips etc etc for pretty updos most of the time. The hemi squalane from the ordinary works well as a sealing oil and is very affordable. Best wishes.
I used innersence i create hold in high humidity/dew point, and my hair was SO FRIZZY at the roots! I had a strong cast before i SOTC, so maybe this product also needs hair spray on top
I experienced flash drying with Innersense I Create Hold. Innersense products are loaded with glycerin, honey and sugar based humectants. Not the best to use in a high humidity environment. I was so disappointed :( Now I’m eyeing the Camille Rose coconut water leave in and Jessi Curls gel. The ingredients look promising. Just a little difficult to get your hands on them when you live in a third world country. 😭
Chelsea Bannman I also really want to try the Ouidad gel. It’s always humid where I live. But no reseller sells Ouidad here yet. So I have to make do with the few options available
Thank you for this video!! Glycerine has cause me so much frizz this summer. My go to has been NYM mousse for those dewy days. Today we have 82* dew point 😯😯
For anti humidity I love the Jessicurl Gel. From Bouncecurl I love the Clump & Define Cream. I didnt like their Gel..I think maybe too much protein. The Curlsmith Scalp Detox Line is also so great and also their Cowash, the Oil in Cream& the Soufflé
I don't know where I'd gotten the idea that she's in Kanada and was shocked to see the Fahrenheits.😂 I live in Finland. I guess it's an always dry climate here.
Gena do you ever use a finishing serum for fighting Frizz/adding shine? I just got a curly cut and the stylist used one, but I wanted to know which you would recommend!
My hair is naturally curly and so frizzy but my issue is also that I have an itchy scalp.I was told that I should use natural ingredients for a healthy scalp.Do you have any suggestions please.
dew point near me is 80……. humidity is 74%…..hate it here lmao. my hair is 80% frizz and makes my hair almost straight by the end of the day..very frustrating but tysm for this video
I really love your very informative videos, the in-depth and clearly well-researched explanations and tutorials that you provide are priceless! Thank you!! But one thing is driving me absolutely INSANE; Jojoba Oil is pronounced HO-HO-BA, not HOBA HOBA 😂
A great idea would be to put it in save and watch bit by bit and even writing it down. She gave us alot of info. If she talked slower, the video would tske forever. Get what im saying? No mean intentions, EVER. I do the same. 😊
Any video you think is too fast you can slow the speed down. I know I am commenting months later, but if you see this maybe it will be helpful. For example, I follow a ladies Bible teacher who originally grew up in a northern state where people speak quickly. I slow down her videos to 1.25 speed just to absorb what she’s saying.

Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee has been my go to gel for humidity this summer.
No wonder my hair hasn’t been looking so good recently 😭 thank you for the info 💘

Thank you for breaking this down! I needed this information, Again! I can never remember the "optimal" dewpoint and humidity. This helped!

I used innersence i create hold in high humidity/dew point, and my hair was SO FRIZZY at the roots! I had a strong cast before i SOTC, so maybe this product also needs hair spray on top
Chelsea Bannman I would use a mouse instead of hair spray. :) they’re great against humidity

@@sanyashettyy I'm eyeing up ouidad climate control gel for the next time I go somewhere humid, and it has protein in it which I like

Thank you Gena for all the tips you have gave us. I love TreLuxe and Miche products, it's amazing!!!

What is a good shampoo and conditioner to use when you have high humidity but dry hair?
For anti humidity I love the Jessicurl Gel. From Bouncecurl I love the Clump & Define Cream. I didnt like their Gel..I think maybe too much protein. The Curlsmith Scalp Detox Line is also so great and also their Cowash, the Oil in Cream& the Soufflé
This was super helpful, thank you! I just found the daily dew point/ humidity report on my phone's weather app & that has proven very useful too. 👍
I don't know where I'd gotten the idea that she's in Kanada and was shocked to see the Fahrenheits.😂 I live in Finland. I guess it's an always dry climate here.
What a wonderfully informative video! I’ve been using Ouidad for 20+ years. I feel like the Climate Control Heat and Humidity is the BEST.
Glycerin is horrible for the humid🥵 summers and dry winters in my area in NY 😮. I went back to using silicones. 😉
Which silicones productss you used?
Humidity def messes up my hair really fast 😭
Gena do you ever use a finishing serum for fighting Frizz/adding shine? I just got a curly cut and the stylist used one, but I wanted to know which you would recommend!
I love the Briogeo Strengthening Treatment Oil 😊
So helpful thanks 😀
So informative ☺️☺️!!
Thank you for this video!! It helped so much! 🥰
What’s your favorite clarifying shampoo that’s safe for highlighted and colored hair
Thank you this video is so helpful
Can I put my hair in twists after applying product? And do i air dry it or use a diffuser when my hair is in twists?
My hair is naturally curly and so frizzy but my issue is also that I have an itchy scalp.I was told that I should use natural ingredients for a healthy scalp.Do you have any suggestions please.
Innersense and TreLuxe
But, what do my curls are if they only look good in high humidity situations? what type of haur do i have and how to style?
dew point near me is 80……. humidity is 74%…..hate it here lmao. my hair is 80% frizz and makes my hair almost straight by the end of the day..very frustrating but tysm for this video

Girl I was so confused. Over here googling HOBA HOBA 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤣🥰
So useful!
Oh yes, that NYM mousse is definitely a stronger hold than they have it marked as.
98% humility and 68f dew point here 😅 i need help! 😵
Use a hard hold gel and maybe nothing else!! Lol
