- Some PAL video I took in Alton early 1993.
Alton is an interesting "market town". I lived there for three years from 1977-1980 before going back to Sydney. I've visited a few times since then. Always lovely to see friends and family.
I was 14 then and moved away when I was 17 , this is how I remember it, oh yeah the old animal pens where Westbrook walk is👍 st Laurence was at the end of my road 'chauntsingers' and we played army in that cemetery as kids.
I would have been 17 in 1993. Some years before I celebrated a birthday at the swimming pool. Vaguely remember a dance club near the supermarket I think?
i remember alton very well lived there between 1961 to 2007 looks diffrant now. what part did you live in i lived in pound gate worked at keymarkets/gateways. nice vid
I spent quite a bit of time in Pound Gate. Knew the Wrights who lived at #35. Nice family. John had a great Norton motorbike!
That black railing is still there oitaide the pub 🤣
Does anyone remember having to spit on the large stone outside St Lawrence door, god knows why all the kids done it, would have been late 70's early 80s 😮
This is currently a controversial topic as recent improvements in St Lawrence's path & paving have now covered the stone.
@@StuartPoore shame 😔
😆yeah the spitting stone 😆 bloody hell 👍
A dump then, but no longer.
It was all a bit sad in the late 1970's but I expect that was the same all over the UK. I'd lived in Australia up until 1977, but wanted to see what England was all about. I enjoyed it and I had loads of relatives still living there and in Medstead. It was all novel to me and I still have very fond memories. I loved the churches, the green fields and the pubs!
