My mother's maternal family came from Alton and were involved in the local hop industry; I still have relatives living here. Much has changed over the years but there's enough historical beauty to stave off modern blandness. Well worth a visit.
So much has changed since I was there from '69 to '73. The old Dickens Bar is now a bank, Crown Hill has changed completely, Turk Street with what used to be The Mini Grill is still a Cafe by the looks of it. There used to be a tea room called "The Crown Tea Room" I think. and further down the hill on the other side was The Rendezvous and there used to be a WH Smiths around there too. Spent Hours in The Palace Cinema and Saturdays drinking in the Barley Mow. Wished the vid had been a bit longer as I liked down Butts and going down to LMTH coffee/Tea bar on Sunday tea time.
