The European Union is split on the issue of tariffs on China-built electric vehicles. In a recent non-binding vote, 12 EU members supported the tariffs, four opposed them, and 11 abstained. The European Commission, which oversees the EU's trade policy, has proposed provisional duties of up to 37.6% to counter alleged unfair subsidies for Chinese EV makers. There are growing divisions within the EU, especially on the foreign policy front. This week, EU members decided to boycott a foreign policy summit hosted by Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
