Corruption? What was the reason Freeport McMoran giving 9% shares to Suharto and 1% to Indonesia government in 1969 before it took away that 9% and gave back to Indonesia government? Has Suharto asked those 9% Shares? Please do remember that at that time Suharto was 1. the head of Indonesia Army 2. the head of the Golkar council where Golkar was the biggest party in the Indonesia parliament and Parliament made laws. 3. the head of Indonesia who has ministries up to head of villages to run the Indonesia law and Suharto's executive order. Freeport Indonesia earns hundreds billion dollars, what will be the impact of giving 9% of Freeport Indonesia shares to the above 3 points? David Rockefeller beside owns Freeport McMoran, he also owns Chevron and ExxonMobil who operate in Indonesia but only Freeport McMoran gave 9% shares to Suharto. The funny thing is the barter of Freeport's shares with the Indonesia government policies are not defined as a corruption if you see the UN and International transparency definition about corruption. In fact, Suharto who accepted it was alleged as a corruptor but not Freeport McMoran. This applies to all globalists and Oligarchs in the USA with the US presidents and Senat.
@@bipulnarzary5280 At least India's economy is dominated by Indians themselves. Meanwhile Indonesia's economy is dominated by non-natives & the fact that Indonesia's politicians won't listen to their people, only cares about personal gain even if it sells our country's national interests to foreigners.. look at "Whoosh" HSR between Jakarta-Bandung city built by China, it was built without feasibility study, even the plan was criticized back in 2016 by former reformer of KAI (Indonesia Railways) Mr. Ignatius Jonan. Now it is burdening our country's budget, even state-owned company which handled the HSR project such as Wijaya Karya (WIKA) is under financial problems. Jokowi was great during his first term. 2nd term was very lackluster and it's incredibly telling. GDP per capita growth is middling for how much potential the country has. Wasting billions on an unecessary new capital is mind-boggling when there are still glaring issues such as infrastructure (lowest road density in SEA), education, corruption, and income inequality.
I am a new expat in Jakarta, Indonesia. Saya masih belajar Bahasa Indonesia tapi, loving every moment so far. People here are good. It motivates you to do good for them. I look forward to starting my business in this great nation and growing together with the people. Certainly, infrastructure needs vast investment and improvement. Day-to-day bureaucracy could also use some improvement for greater business flow and progression. These two alone (although not small achievements) coupled with an education reform would be ideal.

Maybe the world has forgotten, Indonesia has gone through all the problems that have occurred in this part of the world. war from colonialism, tsunami and earthquake disasters, poverty, corruption, coup, reform, embargo, economic crisis, civil war, religious war etc. The funny thing is, Indonesia is still surviving and heading towards becoming the strongest country even though it is progressing slowly but surely.
First of all, the Indonesian government needs to study modern economic fields: Wellbeing Economics, Sustainable Development, Game Theory and Economic History. This also applies to Gita Virjawan, my favorite interviewer. Based on the knowledge stated above, I would venture to advise solving several problems: 1. To stop population growth, it is necessary to create a universal pension system. 2. To stop corruption, it is necessary to equalize the SWB of different groups of the population through social welfare measures and the universal health care system. 3. To establish political stability, it is necessary to create a universal education system and equalize the SWB, again. Indonesia is the richest country in the world compared to countries in the 19th century. There is no need to repeat the path of Europe one-on-one. Make people's lives better, and in 20 years the culture of society will change on its own. And money will flow into the country in the amount you wish. But if we talk about sustainable development and people’s well-being, no special money is needed.
1. You dont need pension system to stop pops growth it does play very small factor but most contributing factor is in woman rights, literacy rate, and economic situation. Indonesia currently sit at 2.14 fertility rate which is sustainable already, no need to stop just maintain it though unfortunately i expect it would decrease just like the developed world. 2. Equalize the SWB? idk, that's sound really communist to me and obviously no correlation toward lowering corruption. Then we already have Universal healthcare system. 3. We also have it.
@@KVUAA SWB equalization - yes, it is more than a welfare state. Even taking life, health and work out of the economic game. In a Nordic-type economy, the difference in SWB in the outermost of the 3 income groups is 0.5-0.8 (compared to 2.1 in today's Russia). But, surprisingly, the Nordic countries today have the highest level of productivity (from OECD statistics).
@@AntonDev-cw3kcForget Nordic, they can't even produce their own smartphones, cars, and other advance products. We need to look to China for an example, they've been able to lift 800 million out of poverty, dominating the global manufacturing, education, technology, etc., to even helping other countries to start advancing such as in the African Continent, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, South America, etc.
This won't happen because of: 1. Corruption 2. Online Gambling Ironic how some Indonesians complain about the corrupt government but also contributed in our economic decline by participating in online gambling that sapped away half a billion USD from our economy. And some of these online gamblers are not even uneducated
Fr. The inadequate education of our people, stemming from issues within the education system, lack of facilities, and shortage of teachers, gives rise to numerous problems in the future. One of these problems is the prevalence of corruption and a culture of mental inferiority among individuals in Indonesia. Education should serve as a means to prevent these negative phenomena from recurring in the next generation.
My mum is from the outskirts of Jakarta, Indonesia. She managed to emigrate to the UK to marry my dad because she didn't like it there. The corruption, pollution and overcrowding became all too much for her. These are major challenges that Indonesia will have to overcome if they are to succeed globally.
Pollution and overcrowding are being dealt with at the moment, to be honest, out of 3 "major challenges" you wrote, only 1 of them applied nationally, the rest are Jakarta-problem. Indonesia is not Jakarta.
Investment in infrastructure, down-streaming of domestic products (mineral and non-mineral), improvement on human capital (education and healthcare), streamlining bureaucracy is the main strategy for Indonesia to become developed country.
I am indonesian who live in germany. In my opinion, corruption is hard to cure in indonesia. And now nepotism is growing up again. I think you have a point. As an Indonesian who lives in Japan myself, Japan value their farmers more than what Indonesian government does. Now why does this matter? Well, because the resident in rural areas mostly are farmers like rice fields etc. And because of the low value in farm goods, they are mostly low class residents. By giving more value on the farmers not only making the class equation more balance, it also gives interest for people to live on those rural places instead and giving more reason for facilities to grow, more reason forthose rural areas to develop.
indonesian politicians should knows that in order to demand something from their foreign investors they should offer a big group of super skilled workers not being so demanding by offering just low wage low skilled workers and natural resourcess…they’re a developing country but the way they asking for big demands from foreign investors seems like their ego feels like they’re already a developed nation
Fr, that is why Apple prefers to choose to invest in Vietnam rather than Indonesia. The low-skilled workers, law uncertainty, etc. As well as why Elon thinks twice to ask to invest in Indonesia. Many negative variables have the potential to harm his business in the future if the Indonesian government doesn't immediately fix it.

If Indonesia wants integration of ASEAN to continue into the future. It might have to give greater autonomy to individual islands, like Borneo and sumatra. It's 40% of ASEANS population, other countries in the region will be intimidated by the possibillity of domination. To put this in context, Germany is only 20% of the EU's population, so the organisation is inherently more collaborative.
Indonesia does have provincial autonomy. Under the Law on Regional Autonomy enacted in 1999, Indonesia decentralized its governance system, granting significant administrative and fiscal powers to its provinces, regencies (kabupaten), and cities (kota). This autonomy allows local governments to manage their own affairs in various sectors, such as education, health, and infrastructure, while the central government retains control over defense, foreign policy, and other key national interests.

There are a lot of big words and bright pictures about Indonesia's economic potential, but if you look calmly at the volume of Indonesian exports, in 2023 the country with the fourth largest population in the world exported goods worth $258.2 billion. And this is very little! This is slightly less than the export of the Czech Republic, where 10 million people live, and one and a half times less than in Switzerland. In terms of merchandise exports, Indonesia is not even among the top thirty countries.
That's not really an apple to apple comparison. Most of Indonesia's produced goods went straight back to domestic consumption and left very little to export. Supplying 10 million people in a landlocked country is not the same as supplying 270 million in an archipelagic country with 23 times the size of Czech Republic.
@@BorisSudakov our domestic market that become dominance. We learn from 1998 crisis when we depend on export and export oriented manufacturing. When global demand plummet most factory closed. Most that survives was small and medium industries that serves local market.
Because Indonesia can only export raw materials such as coal and palm oil, they don't know how to manufacture finished goods and learn to be competitive. Most of the population are low skill labors and live in poverty, despite all the hype about Indonesia I don't see any real changes to the fundamental of their economy. They have been and still is a largely agrarian country that has fall out far from their regional peers such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam that has recently been industrializing their economies.

The funny thing is the barter of Freeport's shares with the Indonesia government policies are not defined as a corruption if you see the UN and International transparency definition about corruption.
Based on the knowledge stated above, I would venture to advise solving several problems:

March 18, 2024 EU palm oil ban: Malaysia, Indonesia seek trade justice.

"There are deficiencies in the design and implementation of the low ILUC-risk criteria," the WTO panel noted in a 348-page report published on March 5.
A WTO panel's ruling on the EU's palm oil import policy has intensified trade tensions with Malaysia and Indonesia, highlighting environmental and trade rule disputes.

People be seeing the south east asian nations as weak. Yes! For the past years. But no body cared to analyze that they hold some of the biggest flora and fauna percentage in the world. If before times, west and the cold countries rose to fame bc of their advancements a lot was brought bc of their extreme weather conditions, these countries are sleeping in resources, just living happily without nuances of the world. Now that all people are aware of global scenarios, these countries that lack natural resources and human supply will be the one left behind.
Indonesia and all other countries with rich natural resources will rise. Especially with global warming that for sure the countries with lesser agriculture will suffer more, they will depend on these countries.
Let's just not allow it! We have to build fast to protect the nation as you know when a country scrumble to find something to own, they steal, and they create unwanted war just to claim territories.
Go indonesia!! I support the South East Asian Nations. Let's move together in progress and let nobody steal and claim our lands and resources. ❤
"Flora and fauna" doesn't make a country global power!
It will make the rich richer, the poor will suffer

Indonesia is truly fortunate to have a visionary president. 10 years ago Indonesia was nothing. Now it is worthy of being reckoned with in the global economy. A smart leader who is able to face global pressure. Hats off to you.

Meanwhile, as per 2024 global statistics, Indonesia still has one of the world's highest rates of maternal and child malnutrition.
EU relations with Malaysia, Indonesia at risk
One dissenting panelist also offered greater support to Malaysia's appeal that the EU policy is protectionist, since it is accused of singling out palm oil while overlooking the environmental impact of biofuels produced within Europe, such as rapeseed.
EU were being hypocrites. They don't want the palm oil but they want the raw nickel ores.
AUG 03, 2023 Indonesia defends its curbs on nickel ore exports amid EU claim of breach in international trade .
Indonesia has stepped up its defence of its nickel ore export curbs the European Union has protested against, asserting its right to enhance value addition, boost its economy, and create job opportunities by climbing the value chain.
Indonesia claims it is doing what is necessary to develop its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, while the EU claims the nation rich in natural resources has breached rules by restricting international trade.
South-east Asia’s largest economy, which was the world’s top exporter of nickel ore, introduced the ban on Jan 1, 2020.

A bit surprised tourism is not mentioned making up almost 5% of Indonesia’s economic output. At the same time less than 10% of Indonesia‘s tourism potential has been exploited to date.
blocking exports and focusing on mid-stream and down-stream value add production? Australian politicians would never be this bright...
Now Indonesia is a new global power thanks to Jokowi who initiated current Geopolitics.
Hahah what a funny comment, who knows nothing about SEA past, cultures, and history
Mereka negara ASEAN sudah memiliki sekutunya masing2.. ngapain merasa terintimidasi Indonesia..?? contoh.. Malaysia, Brunei, Singapura adalah negara Commenwalth. Indonesia negara besar kami bangga berdiri diatas kaki kami sendiri sebagai negara netral.

Indonesia's economy is moving fast ⚡
definitely moving fast towards edge of the cliff.
Because Indonesia economy is mostly consumption driven and still a developing country.

As indonesian, I believe Mr Jokowi cannot run fast without "allowing" corruption to people around him. "You can do whatever you want, but please dont stop me and please help me even only a little bit". Something like that. 🤣. Do you think common people not do corruption? No, we do together. Thats why we are strong. And we are too tricky of being "religious" to cover that sin.
yup ... and that's the hypocrisy
especially ... when some ppl start to spread hatred towards Jokowi only bc Jokowi didn't give them what they want ...
Corruption is a problem for every country in the world, especially if you are a country with a big population where the government can easily be overwhelmed with governance. That’s why the smaller countries in size and population tends to be ahead of everything.
when we choose ministers from professionals compared to politicians, it is not embarrassing when interviewed by foreign journalists
