- After visiting the Sedona area, we wanted to move closer to the Grand Canyon! Neither of us had been to the Grand Canyon before and it was one of the first things we put on our "must-see" list once we knew we were going to do this RV thing!

For this leg of our journey, we decided to stay at Railside RV Ranch (railsiderv.com/) which, you guessed it, is right beside the railway line that runs from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Luckily, that railway is strictly a passenger line and doesn't run late at night like the one in Williamsburg!
Williams is a very cool little town right along historic Route 66. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and breweries and, of course, we frequented a bit of each.
The highlight of this location was obviously the grand canyon! We checked it out by truck, motorcycle, and HELICOPTER!
Since the day we started planning our adventures out west, we knew we wanted to take some kind of air tour of the Grand Canyon. Since our visit to the area happened to coincide with Tara's birthday, that seemed like the perfect time! I took a seaplane ride to the Dry Tortugas on my birthday, so fair is fair! 😊
We picked Maverick Helicopter because that's just a really cool name (and they had great reviews)! 😉
They are big helicopters, holding about 8 people each with great views in both the front and back seat. Luckily, we got a front seat! The tour takes off from Grand Canyon National Park Airport just inside the park on route 64. The first few minutes are fairly uneventful while flying over the forest. Forest...forest...forest... BAM!! The bottom of the world just drops out leaving us thousands of feet over the canyon! That was AMAZING! The entire flight, we were completely overwhelmed with spectacular views in every direction! There's just not much I can do to explain it in words. Good thing this is a video post! 😊
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Williams and the Grand Canyon.
Next up in our travels, we have our first long term true boondocking stay on Lone Rock Beach in Utah! Stay tuned! 📺

When I saw it for the first time, I cried and I'm a big bad ass 22 year Navy retiree. Almost went to my knees.
It instantly reminded me what we are serving for. I got to me.
Mark Reynolds of course. You think it's big but even the size in your mind's eye does Not prepare you for the actual size of the canyon
Oh! Napa Valley Balloon tour! Incredible…with breakfast and champagne. 💯
Awesome, awesome awesome!!!!! Love you guys, love Daisy and sooo enjoy your videos!!! So much better than TV!!
Don't know what your schedule looks like, but if you have time, I highly recommend you guys flip over to the northside of the Canyon. The official north rim may already be closed, but there is a stunningly beautiful point just west called Toroweap (some call it Tuweep). From Fredonia, AZ, you basically take a dirt road for 60 miles to reach it. Obviously, you wouldn't want to take your trailer down there.
The canyon is only about a mile or two across at this location, but the walls on both sides are almost sheer drops all the way down to the Colorado below. There's also an extinct volcano right on the edge called Vulcan's Throne, which dumped lava into the canyon, creating a really cool gigantic formation right in the middle of the river called Vulcan's Anvil, as well as the rapids that were created by the water rushing over these lava beds.
TONS of gorgeous and famous sunset/sunrise photos have been taken there, and there's even a super clean campground within a mile of the rim. Check it out!
Love that Chad says what he is thinking. My kind of guy!!! Loved the chopper ride. We didn't get to do that.
You guys captured the Grand Canyon so beautifully! Thank you for sharing your experience and for flying with us. 🚁 If you need more birthday ideas, you can always fly with us again- next time over Las Vegas, Maui, or Kauai 😉
Absolutely! 👍🏼
I met my wife at school in Flagstaff near the GC. We love Northern AZ. The River trips down the Canyon are amazing. Spent a few Halloween’s in Jerome. Pretty crazy. Sedona is breathtaking. The drive from Sedona to Flag through Oak Creek Canyon would be awesome on a bike. Nice and twisty. You guys are awesome to watch and make me laugh a lot. Take care and keep em coming!
Alburquerque New Mexico in August...I think ... hot air balloons...amazing 👍🏻
Awesome, we want to see the hot air balloons also!
Thank you for sharing another wonderful video! Great birthday ideas!
It is great to watch you two! Among other things, you are each other's best friend. And a belated Happy birthday Tara!
Had a Air National Guard conference years ago in Sedona and had the wonderful luck of finding out that an Army NG crew had to qualify again for a certain amount of hours (6 seat turbo prop plane) and were willing to fly us from Spokane WA to Sedona. When we approached the Grand Canyon, because of our being military, they got clearance to fly us two low passes over the length of the Canyon. I wish I had known in advance that they were thinking it so that I had a camera, but the views and memories were awesome!
That sounds like a blast!!!
Every time I watch your videos I am reminded of George Burns and Gracie Allen. Not sure why.
😂🤣😂 I’m dying, the bloopers kill me every time.
We tent camped for our oldest daughters 1st birthday at the Grand Canyon in 79. Used a sunrise photo from that trip as the background of our channel logo. Visited in Model A Ford's also. Have not yet done the helicopter tour. Thanks for that!
Spectacular views from the air .... Looks like a flood to me ...
The out takes are hysterical!! 😂
I love the GC in the winter, the crowds are down, sometimes you will get snow which makes the colors pop. It's not as hot, but it can get very cold. Plus they open the gates on the road up to Hermits trail. So you can drive up there instead of taking the shuttle. BTW, to get to the top of the tower is a set of stairs in the corner that wrap around.
A little East of Williams on I-40 is another great section of old Route 66, the town of Oatman.
It's an old mining town turned artists colony sort of like Jerome, but there are wild burros that wonder around town.
Your video on Williams made me wanting to go there and we did it today. Thank you for suggesting these great places to see!!!
The General Lee from “Dukes of Hazzard” is still on the run @ 14:30
You guys crack me up with the outtakes. Great video
Great video... we were at the Grand Canyon this spring and we really enjoyed it. Great videography.
Bucket list for sure.... GREAT editing Tara!!! 😉
We loved the
Editing as well!
Happy birthday young lady
Spectacular!! So want to do that chopper ride.
well this hit my memory lane as kids we had a small plot of land just at ponderosa (small town near flagstaff) williams was just down the road, the sunset at grand canyon is beyond belief the entire canyon looks like its on fire the red rocks literally glow U HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE & ITS EVERY NIGHT
Will have to see that next time! 😊 Thanks for watching! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
Awesome....Happy Birthday Tara. On our list to see.
I enjoy seeing both of you enjoy life. You share your life with the world. This video has information we all can use when visiting the Grand Canyon. Thank you safe travels.
Been there several times and the WOW factor never goes away!
Daughter and I drove from WA State back to Florida in 2019 and went to the Grand Canyon & Carlsbad Caverns. The highlight of our trip was taking the Maverick Helicopter Tour and we both got in front seat. (Seating is to distribute the weight to balance the aircraft)...
Maverick tours is a cool name, but I'd search for AIRWOLF TOURS....lol. Probably don't exist. Happiest of Birthdays Tara! Love the videos and thank you for letting all of us adventure with you two great people. Awesome videos every dang time!!
LOL! Forgot about that show! ua-cam.com/video/ULfmowbNlK0/v-deo.html
Don't forget to check out Prescott AZ, Such a really FUN town. Actually moving there this year. Super cute town.
Happy birthday Tara!!
I drive a semi and got to drop my trailer and me and my daughter drove up to the canyon and spent the day. It’s so beautiful it looks fake at first.
Now that’s a cool video guys ❤️😎🚌🌎🎥😊👍thanks for sharing and safe travels
Grand Canyon is awesome to see. We went to the north rim
Am I the only one blown away by the editing here?
Thanks! 😊
We were at the grand canyon in March. It was crowded then and there wasn't any parking. The tourist center is a waste of time, not enough rangers and people are rude.
We stayed at the KOA north of Williams because of the trains.
That KOA is one of our favorites.....great location and the people running it are outstanding. Great base camp for seeing the Canyon and the surrounding area. Will be there again this November...want to see the Canyon in the winter.
@@JAMESMT-mm6zl We had a little snow in March
I think we checked that park but it was booked...
Wow!! Amazing!!! Thanks for sharing!
If you want to ride in a balloon, you need to go to Albuquerque during the annual balloon festival. BTW there is an RV Park right next to festival grounds.
The Mather Campground (no hookups) is easy to get in on short notice in early March. It's $9/night with access pass. The Trailer Village, a mile away (full hookups) is also easy to get in on short notice in March. Both of these are walking distance to the visitor center and cliff trails. Bicycles make it awesome, if you can bring some. March is a good time to visit with less people, yet all trams are operational. It's really worth it to target March for less people.
Great tips! Thanks! 👍🏼
Great video! I am a professional helicopter pilot and a lived there in Tusayan and flew tours of the canyon for a little over a year, this really took me back. We have a 36’ fifth wheel toy hauler that I lived in while I was there, was such a great experience!
Well, I was gonna offer you balloons tied to a chair...Guess that's out. LOL. Great video guys!
Oh no... I'm still down with that! Just don't tell Tara! 😉
Just love your videos, and your lil dog is so cute!!!
9:02 - love it - let’s just go look at the hole!
Happy Birthday may our GOD continue to bless you with fun adventures to share with us all.
Been to the Grand Canyon many times, drive out to the west end before stopping, take the free bus to the east end and walk back!
Go early, and don't go November through March.....too cold!
You MUST visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.....less traveled and it's beautiful! You'll love it!
Oh man!!! At first glance, I thought that said "HELL" Tour!! 😱😄🤦🏼♀️
LOL! I updated the thumbnail... Thanks! 😊
Happy Birthday Gorgeous. Opps did I just say that. Yes the canyon is unbelievable.Back in1978 I was living in Denver. We decided one night to go and hick to the bottom of the canyon. It was a fantastic trip.
Happy birthday Tara!!!! Glad you had a great day! And hopefully pain free ❤
I did that exact trip how fun it was i sat up front too it was awesome. Thanks for sharing this loved it..
Thanks for watching! Hope you check out the rest of our channel! 😊
I was so excited for this video. My hubby and I just took an RV trip through that area with our Toy Hauler. We also hit breweries, wineries, and Distillery’s as we go so I was tickled when you also stopped at Grand Canyon Distillery. We loved it! I hope you went to Moab too... it’s unbelievable and so is Mesa Verde!
Yes! Both Mesa Verde and Moab / Arches are in the queue. 👍🏼
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
P.S. Happy "5" Birthday, Tara !!
I've been in one of those types of helicopters when I toured NYC and saw the Statue of Liberty which was clouded over and the space where the WTC had been- before the new towers went up.
You two are GREAT! The stills, the editing, the outakes and especially the music! Look forward to the next one and the next one and the next one. Get back to key west
We're trying! LOL Waited too long to book the keys for Jan / Feb... 😟
Try a Glider Flight. Awesome. So quiet! I did that a month ago at the National Soaring Museum in New York.
Yesssss!!!!!
Love the Grand Canyon! We did a helicopter tour. Freaking amazing!
Grand Canyon is amazing, we have been multiple times, I think we prefer the north rim.
Your best video yet... Good job with the excellent video.
Great video guys. I stopped at the Grand Canyon on one of my cross country motorcycle trips. I wish I would have spent more time and taken the helicopter tour.
Balloon ride over the Napa Valley was spectacular and highly recommended..... Great video guys!!!
Was there in 1992 visiting relatives in Phoenix. Thanks so much for sharing. You've brought back so many great memories. Safe travels and keep em' coming!
I love the North Rim. It has a faction of the visitors of the South Rim. I don't think you will be able to camp in the park with your rig, but Lucille will love the road from Jacob's Lake to the Canyon. Be on the lookout for the buffalo. Keep in mind the North Rim is only open from May through October. Put the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque on your list. It is an exciting event.
Yes! North rim and Balloon fiesta are on the to-see list! 👍🏼
Thanks for the great comments about our little town of Williams. We knew you were in the area back in the spring as we recognized the lake in the background of your Lyme disease awareness video. (Very well done. Thank you Tara). We are really happy you enjoyed your time here. Try coming back in late August next time. Temperatures are moderate and it isn't as windy.
What a great time! We took a helicopter from Vegas over the Hoover Dam and landed in the canyon for wine and a picnic. Not the grandest part of the Canyon, but still an amazing time. Put it on your bucket list, and happy birthday Tara.
Nice job.. looks like ya'll had a good time. Video is great and brings back memories. I've flown in helicopters 3 times and other various aircraft and love it. I'm a big guy and the pilot always put me in front also, for some reason? 🤣
Yep, the Grand Canyon is AWESOME! I took a bike trip and stopped there a few years ago, and took the same route you did around the east rim. Only difference was I was headed to Colorado so I went out through Tuba City. Not much there but the Native American owned hotel I great. Next trip in a couple of years I'll spend some time on the north rim.
Our dream to ride the motorcycle to Grand Canyon and many other spots in mid west. Just gonna take a 6 to 8 week trip and get them all. Great footage and usual great content. Williams does look like a fun little town. Thanks a lot for taking us along guys.
Wow. Can't wait :) Great video!
We stayed at Railside Rv Ranch last September, it was a great park! And the Grand Canyon...Wow, its fantastic!! What an Awesome Birthday present! Wonderful video you guys!!
Thanks guys. What a great job showing the canyon.
The International Ballon Festival takes place in early October in Albuquerque every year
Yep! Will be at this year's if it still happens.
LOL..."Get to the choppa". As Arnold S said, "How you houskeeping skills" !!
Thank you. I haven't been to the Grand Canyon since I was 15. That was before you could really see the receding water. Actually took a raft ride down the Colorado River through the canyon too.
Haha “Get to the Chopper”.
Great Video! We are Taking our RV to the Grand Canyon end of August. I love the music choices…especially on the helicopter ride. Did you get tickets in advance? I think we would like to do that also. Also, the Smile on Tara’s face was priceless when you landed. That was a happy lady right there! But best of all I love your pup Daisy! She is just the sweetest. Love your channel!
You guys are great.
You must go spend some time on the North Rim! Not as crowded and just as beautiful!
Wonderful adventure! Thanks for sharing!
Hope you had a wonderful birthday! The helicopter ride is on my bucket list!
Are you guys living your best life love it
Happy birthday, Tara. You guys are having so much fun. I can't wait to retire and full time RV.
Awesome you guys got to fly over the Grand Canyon. Beautiful video shots. Be safe in your travels😃
My family came out to Vegas(where I live)on Thanksgiving week 2017 and we went to the Grand Canyon r/t in one day.... it's feasible but I wanted to stay overnight in Williams but they aren't into Route 66 stuff...the parking at the visitor center was insane for us too... it took close to a 1/2 hour to park...we took the express bus out to Hopi Point for the sunset which was a fast trip BUT the trip back they has to stop at every twig and rock...OMG.... that was so long... on the way out of the park there are several signs to watch for wild life.... I had an Elk right at my driver's side door - I was going 2 mph... thankfully I got to see this beautiful animal so close.... Another great job by you guys... Thanks so much !!!
Awesome airview ! 😊😊😊👌✔🌟💚🌟🌄
Thanks Guys great job safe travels enjoy all your videos 👍🙏🏼🙏🏼🐶
Nice video, LOVE the Grand Canyon. We did the North Rim and South Rim.
We have been so many times! We love the north rim.
Seen lots of grand canyon vidoes don't think I've ever seen Williams! Looks like an awesome place to visit!!! Thanks!
life is shot enjoy
FYI to all - disabled veterans can get a free national parks pass and in Minnesota you can get a free state parks pass
Another great video and I just want to say happy bday Tara.... Look forward to the next video
Excellent job on the video. I love riding my Switchback and exploring. The Boyd's hat reminded me to let you know that Fred the Tree is weiting a book. Take care.
Yea! Saw that on FB! 😊
Great video Thank you
Bearizona is a must but on the way to the Park you have to stop off at Bedrock (The Flinstons)
Williams was really cool ,old timie
LMAO for the outtakes. "You get the giggles" lol
I'm glad most of the viewing areas don't have rails lol! We loved Williams too. We ate at that last Route 66 Cafe you featured around 26,27 minutes into the video. We loved it. We were on motorcycles also and ducked in there to dodge a heavy rain storm before going to the Grand Canyon.
As another old Navy Retiree- who used to run a VR Squadron safety office- an read all the mishap reports from Navy and civilian reportable incidents- ya know who had the Worst-. Touring helo’s!!! Just a thought
Great video guys, as always👍 Loved it! Oh, forgot to add "Happy Birthday" wishes to Tara! Looks like you had a fantastic day! 🎈💕🌸 loved the outtakes😂😂😂
Great video as usual! We took our travel trailer there in 2015, and stayed at Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel in Williams, which has an RV park. They also have an onsite kennel for our dogs, plus you catch the train to the Grand Canyon right next door. I know you complained about the tour groups at the Park, but it's a lot more stress free than driving there, waiting in line, and finding parking spaces.
True.. advantages and disadvantages, I guess... Traffic and parking isn't bad at all except the main visitors center. But I can definitely see a big advantage if the park entrance is very busy for sure! Thanks for watching! 😊
