Eating frozen fruit while still frozen has additional benefits. During the time spent thawing, frozen fruit loses much of its polyphenols. The author of Eating on the Wild Side - who uncovered the research showing this - recommends thawing as fast as possible such as in microwave, or I dunk in hot or boiling water. But eating while still at last partly frozen works too.
Mustard sauce like you buy in the store is often heated during preparation to ensure shelf life, so the enzyme needed is deactivated. Homemade mustard sauce would work if the recipe does not require heating ( some online recipes just mix the ingredients, some require heating on a stove). Fresh mustard greens would work.
Can you please address if a handful of almonds /day and 1/2 avocado non-daily but regular intake can affect lipid panel? Nuts and avo added when starting wfpb. Thank you for all the valuable information add Greger! When you mention eggs not being recommended, you discuss their impact on cholesterol levels. I’m just wondering what your thoughts are on eating egg whites as a source of protein without all that cholesterol?
@@k.h.6991 Some people eat a whole plain boiled egg each day for the Vitamin A1, B12, D, K2, Choline, Iodine and Omega 7 which you can't get in plants.
@@Jeffs60There's almost no vitamin A, iodine, vitamin D and b12 in eggs. And the choline in eggs increase your risk of diseases through TMAO, while the choline in plants like in brocolis or potatoes is healthy
I need that portfolio diet but I followed your recommendations and changed my diet significantly for a year, and though my cholesterol is much better but still isn’t great. 😢how long can it take?
Unfortunately it sounds like you are stuck with it and it's probably your genetics. I would expect a year is definitely long enough assuming you don't have a high body fat percentage which seems to affect cholesterol too and if you are elderly it's normal for cholesterol to increase.
I preferred when the format wasn't just podcast but video. At least, please show each question in written, sometimes we don't even know what was the question...
I like eggs and dairy in moderation. My cholesterol levels are in check for a 70 yr old. The difference is I have no chronic diseases like 90% of those over 65 due to resistance training and cardio and keeping my weight in check.
@@Jeffs60nope. Dr. Greger clearly states here that eating eggs makes you die earlier. As for centenarians: if you do make it to a hundred yourself, you clearly have different genes from the rest of us and maybe eggs are fine for you. For the rest of us: safer without them.
Took Niacin 500mg, but flush was kinda strong. So I took 100mg daily, expecting the flush 5 times smaller. Did not make any difference. Still strong flush. Strangely, some days no flush at all. Almost forgot I took Niacin. I tryed to figure out what affects the flush, no luck. Empty stomach or after food doesnt seem to make a difference for me....
Every time you deal with a question of protein, you do NOT address the fact that as we age we digest and absorb LESS efficiently - correct? Well, in order to maintain proper protein levels, don't you need to eat MORE?
There are bodybuilders that are whole food plant based. Check out Naiman Delgado and Ammon Ra. Food will not substitute for resistance training to maintain or increase muscle mass.

Jim, Ed Rodriguez 72 here. While it is evident that many do go that route, the evidence is out that the long-term effects are plaque build up in the arteries, destruction of the endothelial lining, and excess fat build-up throughout the circulatory system, as well as in and around all the organs. These are long-term effects that sooner rather than later lead to medical conditions that are grouped under what doctors call Syndrome X. Such great information. Terrible shame that the good doctor slurs so much of his content. Turn on closed captions, and you will see words like hibiscus transformed into hsss or he's or hs. Please, Doctor Greger, slow down your speech for those of us who want to hear your content.
Quite frankly I truly appreciate his ability to pack as much info as possible into his vids! Love somebody who can talk almost as fast as one can read! Most videos other I refuse to watch simply because I can read the content in 1/2 the time!
Can’t wait for the Portfolio diet videos!!! You are awesome Dr. Greger!!!!
I love these podcasts!
Where's that time stamp dude when you need him?
You are the chosen one
It should be you.
I'll go back and finish college once Dr. Greger starts teaching 😁😂

Don't eat animals.
Egg whites are not a whole food and create a nutritional imbalance.
Protein is present abundantly in plant foods. You don't need eggs for protein.

Cardio ages you. Your heart has a limited number of beats in your lifetime, whenever you exercise you shorten your lifespan.
You might want to watch his videos on dairy and eggs.

Dr Greger, please do a podcast with Bryan Johnson about his blueprint - whole food vegan anti-aging protocol. Would be super interesting!
