Hey Chico, I am so sorry you're having this trouble. You are the most humble and honest person that I have the honor of sharing a journey with !!! Through all your troubles, you still send us the happiness. God speed to you Sir!!!!!
I am so sorry that you are having all of this troubles. I have seen all the things you have done to your rig to solve these problems. It has helped me determine what my problem may be for my rig. I have the same problem as you do now. I hope this sending unit help resolve your problems that you have had. I hope you will be doing a video on this too. Thanks for taking us with you on your journey.
Wow i sure hope this fixes the problem I was worried you would not make it was glad to see that you did I watch all your videos and just could not believe your luck that day you were trying so hard to make it to lake Havasue. Stay Happy I wish you luck that this gets taken care of once and for all!
I’ve did all of this to my 1994 Fleetwood Coronado now the fuel tank sending unit is the problem. I’m having garage do it here in South Carolina send 4 hours. And they can tow it from storage yard we have coach net it’s $169.00 a year. Well worth the money. So thank you for the videos.
Wow, hang in there Chico. Sorry to hear this surfaced again. You don't need this kind of stress! You'll get to the bottom of this nagging issue eventually. I think you have some angels watching over your shoulder. Take care. Safe travels.....
Hi Chico, I'm so sorry you are still having problems with your fuel pressure. Soon you will get that fixed and be able to get back to enjoying your retirement. Terrible what a few days of pouring rain can do.
I just returned from a trip to our primary home, the boat. I brought a low pressure pump and filter to pump the gas out of the FULL RV tank. We can use it in the car. I suspect I can use the Genny fuel line to get it down to about 18 gallons. Just ordered the new pump from Rockauto and looking for the adapter cable part number.
Mine is 01/96. I haven't looked at the cable, but I am going back through your videos looking for the part number. I know I wrote it down too. Your last pump finally solve the problem? What are you getting for pressure with the new pump?
in you tube i did see a guy that he installed a external fuel pump to the fuel line "in" to the motor and it works for emergency purposes moving the rigg to a safe place...he did it in a pick up truck..!
Have you ever cleaned out the gas tank? I wouldn't replace the fuel pump without flushing/replacing the tank and the entire fuel system. How do you know the inside of the tank isn't rusted out?
Monitoring the voltage is a perfect way to make sure you have all your bases covered.I hope the new sending unit fixes the issue but something tells me we might be surprised by The story this voltage gauge will tell. Most people never have to replace a fuel pump and you've been through I can't even count how many. Best of luck to you and the pooch
I know this 5 years old but this comment stands out to me and I am hoping for a reply. 🤞 I am new to RVing and doing my own repairs and I am concerned that my fuel pump is going out but your comment makes me second guess that idea. My question is, we don’t have a voltage gauge, do you have another way to figure if it’s a voltage issue and/or would installing one be smart before doing the fuel pump?
A very stressful situation.i think you are on the right tract with the voltage problem and or ground to the pump.Run a new larger wire to the relay splice into your pump harness and run a new ground from your pump harness.also double check that a ground strap is installed from the engine to the chassis.
Correct me if im wrong but you have a 460 right? When Chris and I broke down 7mi. shy of Ocala at the walmart on Silver springs. we were stuck for 3days. the relay shorted out the front pump and the switch valve. After 3 days fighting with it, i took the electric pump off my genny and put it i front of the switch valve on a toggle switch to the house battery to get us home. I did several weeks research on these pumps and everyone seems to be saying the same thing. once the tank is below 1/2 and the pump goes dry running up hill they burn out from overheating. Sounds like that was what caused my initial problem. If your mechanic finds no dirt in your pump i would bet your pump overheated. Good luck brother and stay safe. you two.
Ed Speanburgh Caught up with the very Static Nomadic a couple of months ago, he is well and very busy at work. I tried to encourage him to start making vids again. I'd like to think he will.
You're the best Chico, been following the rv channels for a couple years, just recently discovered you're channel, I marathoned you're videos from first to last, love the road trip vids complete with engine sound,, the last vid with the uphill fuel problem would have made a great cliff hanger, but I guess you already had the cliffs on you're mind, lol, all the best.
I know what you are going through. I bought a 1997 Damon Day 53 chassis with power problems. I picked it up and drove it to a Cerified Ford Truck Garage in Appleton, Wi. They called and said fixed. Drove it 40 miles and it started losing power. I called them up and them up and they said they charged me for what they done. So , I ordered an a ECM from Auto Zone and put ignition module on it. So, I nurse it home and put a fuel pressure guage on it and in 5 min the fuel pressure dropped. I ordered a ford oem fuel pump and took to my garage and had them install it.I told them to check the tank for dirt. They said they didn't see any. Picked it up and about 90 miles and the same thing. So, I found a heavy-duty truck garage in Watertown W,i close. They went through everything and found out the fuel pump sock was full of dirt. They sent it out and had the tank flushed. Had to put another pump in because they did not trust the strain this pump had on it. About 1,000 mi later had some issues with loss of power again. They found the EGR valve open. Fixed it and they tested the the pump and again the sock was full of rust. They found out that the welded seam along the tank had rust in it. They said a new tan installed 1800 and it would be aluminum. So, make sure your tank is clean.
With all you have done before you left FL and since you left AL, I hope this is the FIX! My goodness, what else could it be? There were some good suggestions in the last videos comments. Hope you gave it a good read! Good Luck Chico! I hope the guy that is helping you knows his stuff!!!
He had it fix the old fuel stop in LA just put a real hurting on the RV fuel system Chico will be all set after he does this new pump but always by your fuel from high volume fuel stops and the newer the better because they don't use steel tanks that where put in the ground long ago and all rusted out some to a point of having holes in them and all kinds of debris get in there which is what happen to Chico
Chico... it's Cause and Effect.... You know the Effect..but what is causing it? Sure the pump is trashed... but why is that happening? Good Luck . As I said before.. On My F53 1997 ford motorhome chassis.. I haven't had any issues with my fuel pump..Cheers
Rufus i did see a guy in you tube (eric jacobs nomatic fanatic)he did change the fuel pump unit ..the rigg work fine but the Onan 4000 genny did not..? later he put another fuel pump unit to fix that problem in the genny..he did it all over because of a wrong pump ..the genny will not function if you have the wrong pump...
I hope the ground splice on the wiring won't void the warranty. You might've better off splicing into the coach harness before the connector. Our Intruder 350's pump went bad on Ohio 77N. Luckily we nursed it to a truck repair shop who could work on it. $900 later it runs great. Good luck.
I have to replace the fuel sending unit on our 2002 Ford F-250 and on our 2001 Chevy Express. The Ford acts like it wants to start but it will not. The Chevy Van will start with a shot of engine starter and then it runs fine. The fuel gauge in the Van does not work at all, so I need to replace it anyways. The previous owner said it never worked for him either. The Van has had a tuneup, including fuel filter in the last year and most things replaced on the outside of the engine in the last year also, so I am pretty sure it is the fuel pump. The Ford had been acting like it would hard start sometimes and other times it would start fine. Then one day, I shut it off and it would not start. I picked up a fuel pressure test kit and will be testing both, just to make sure. It will run if I feed a line into the breather box from a small camping propane cylinder, so I know it is not an electrical issue. When I turn the key on, there is no sound coming from the gas tank. If I replace the fuel unit and it does not fix it, I will replace the emergency fuel shut off relay switch. I know, most would replace that switch first but I want to replace the fuel sending unit as the truck has about a 1/4 million miles on it. The fuel gauge in my son's 1988 Jeep Wrangler is doing a wobble bobble thing, so we have to replace his unit also. So I have to do three fuel sending units. At least the family is pitching in to buy all three sending units plus any tools I want to do the job easier. I will show them a hydraulic vehicle lift and see if they will pitch in and get one of those. It's free to ask. I think the saying, "I am retired now", means "Life is still working me, just in a different way."
Since you have a fuel pressure test kit, it is real easy to test the Chevy van. Just remove the dog house and there is a schrader valve on the left rear of the engine. With key-on the fuel pump should prime then stop running. After the engine starts it should resume running. Normal pressure is 60 PSI when running and it should hold after the engine is stopped (check valve).
You could also make a secondary fuel supply and tee it into the fuel supply to your engine. It would be easy since you know motorcycles. I ride a liter bike sportbike. A tank from a wrecked sportbike would make a great small fuel cell with locking cap, built in pump to feed fuel injection, ...etc. Use it as an emergency second source of fuel when the main one is acting up. You just need an empty small bay or space in one of the outside storage bays and wire it up with a switch on the dash. Good luck.
Your fuel filter could also be clogged, it might not only be the pump. I would change the fuel filter(s) as well, if enough dirt got through to damage the pump, it had to go somewhere. Also, make sure you choose the correct wire size - DC can be hard on wires, you need a pretty good size wire to travel a long distance - there are online calculators for figure out what is the correct size.... Anyway, this too shall pass, a few years from now it will make a good story.
i would have put in an aftermarket electric fuel pump this way there's no dropping tank or making a hillbilly hole, would this work? the electric pump bolts onto the frame rail .cut the gas line with a pipe cutter hot wire to ignition and your done ...easy fix baybee please let me know i have the same problem
When you get the old pump out, why don't you just take it apart to see if the impellers are actually damages or if there is other fouled up things inside? Might be interesting to see what the old pump looks like inside! Hopefully this fixes up your issues and you and Rufus can have may more UNSTRESSFUL travel miles in your future! Good luck buddy!!!
OK I'm not a mechanic so this may be really stupid but is the pressure OK now if you crank it? When this problem occurs have you taken the gas cap off to see if the pressure improves. Could the fuel being consumed by the engine be causing a vacuum in the tank. You could find out by driving it with the filler cap off and maybe a rag stuck in it loosely to let air into the tank. If the pump is pulling against a vacuum then the engine should stabilize if it can vent.
As we get older, our tolerance level goes down. I do not like the new changes. It's seems one thing after another!! Since the last equinox. FORD YUK. DIRTY FUEL? WHERE do you get gas? Volt meter.Yes! Smart you. What kind is your rig? My Skyelar says Hello to your Puppy.
how much is the labor for the fuel pump(fuel pump cost $$?)..?in order of replacing your existing fuel pump.. i think you have to jack up the rigg..drain the fuel..remove the tank..make sure the tank is clean..that probably take all day..? right..? also i was told that you have to have the right pump in order for your external generator to work properly..right..?
Love watching you and rufus. Hope he can get better soon. How do we get your sticker. Have a great time in the desert. We are going there next winter and can't wait.
Chico did you replace the 3 capacitors in your computer when you pulled it?also a lot of owners have installed a inline fuel pump and separate electrical circuit and have had good results. You are dealing with a factory engineering problem that Ford never recognized. You will figure it out,Be Happy.!
Ok... directly above the fuel pump in the tank is the floor of the RV... Cut a trap door there so you can access this stupid pump easily from inside incase you have to change it again... The pumps must be junk if all else is working and it will happen again..That is what I would do....
Please be careful about recommending cutting holes in the floor. While looking at my 96 intruder, the waste holding tanks are between the fuel tank and the floor. There is also heater ducts in there as well.
wow didn't I reply back to you it might be electrical and how to test/ fix it? As old as that chassis is 97? Connector do go bad . Good luck to you .Hope the new pump works.
Rufus i did see a guy in you tube (eric jacobs nomatic fanatic)he did change the fuel pump unit ..the rigg work fine but the Onan 4000 genny did not..? later he put another fuel pump unit to fix that problem in the genny..he did it all over because of a wrong pump ..the genny will not function if you have the wrong pump...just watch out Rufus for that thing having the wrong pump..! you do not like doing extra labor right..? very expensive..!
I was having a lot of trouble with the fuel pump, it turned out that the pressure relief in the housing had 2 orings that had deteriorated we finally found that out and it's fine now. Making it work ua-cam.com/video/yI3dr8_4-jk/v-deo.html
it will be not funny to have to do all over because of the wrong pump serial number...the all look identical the same...how do you figure out your pump numbers and serial..amazon right..? ty..,!
Good advice. Thank you

It ran good down hill. You also had our prayers.
20 years ago is the new style? I fit in too. Bikers are the best helpers. Nice to he a mechanic. But sometimes you can over think. aww go have fun

this was a great informitive video your explanation plus the addition of the extra wire and gauge are more than just spot on.thank you.
Hi Chico, I'm so sorry you are still having problems with your fuel pressure. Soon you will get that fixed and be able to get back to enjoying your retirement. Terrible what a few days of pouring rain can do.
we were having the same problem it was the fuel pump, stuck in Albuquerque changing front bushings, ugh always something!

Been there too!
God love you two guys
Chico this is Jim and Tonya from RV Hilltop glad to hear that you finally got that fuel problem figured out have a good day buddy
Have you ever cleaned out the gas tank? I wouldn't replace the fuel pump without flushing/replacing the tank and the entire fuel system. How do you know the inside of the tank isn't rusted out?
He changed the filter more than once and dropped the tank and cleaned it himself right before leaving texas for AZ

It seems as if you are already getting yourself out of this small jam Chico! Keep your head up man everything will pan out just fine.

What fuel pump did you get
consider a new fuel pump relay as well because the old pump often damages the contacts from drawing too many amps while it is failing
maybe you we us them and i can rig a different external feul pump
we will be in your area , want to met up?
i would have put in an aftermarket electric fuel pump this way there's no dropping tank or making a hillbilly hole, would this work? the electric pump bolts onto the frame rail .cut the gas line with a pipe cutter hot wire to ignition and your done ...easy fix baybee please let me know i have the same problem
jon miller I would put a new Motor craft pump in last as recommended!

how much is the labor for the fuel pump(fuel pump cost $$?)..?in order of replacing your existing fuel pump.. i think you have to jack up the rigg..drain the fuel..remove the tank..make sure the tank is clean..that probably take all day..? right..? also i was told that you have to have the right pump in order for your external generator to work properly..right..?
What makes you think it's not the computer telling the fuel pump to lower pressure when it senses an exhaust problem?
Why not just order an OBD II monitor. That way you can monitor everything.
keep that pecker up buddy and keep buggering on
Love watching you and rufus. Hope he can get better soon. How do we get your sticker. Have a great time in the desert. We are going there next winter and can't wait.
where did you find the fuel pump sending unit i need the same one and can not find it anywhere
Chico did you replace the 3 capacitors in your computer when you pulled it?also a lot of owners have installed a inline fuel pump and separate electrical circuit and have had good results. You are dealing with a factory engineering problem that Ford never recognized. You will figure it out,Be Happy.!

Why not just add a secondary backup fuel pump near the engine? You can pickup after market ones anywhere. Doesn't even need to be mounted in the tank.
J Doe Black tank is in the way!
Please be careful about recommending cutting holes in the floor. While looking at my 96 intruder, the waste holding tanks are between the fuel tank and the floor. There is also heater ducts in there as well.
I think you need a new tank to many fuel pumps you have replaced fords are brutal with junk in the tank. Be happy Guz
i don't know could it be that you intermittently loose full voltage to pump every now and again? strange that multiple pumps have same problem
wow didn't I reply back to you it might be electrical and how to test/ fix it? As old as that chassis is 97? Connector do go bad . Good luck to you .Hope the new pump works.

Manolo Vicencio That is correct
