Avatar on 4K HDR looks insane on OLED tv. I'm still keeping my Collectors Edition Blu ray because of extras and extended scenes. Avatar is the best escapism move ever made.
@@TheNaturalGamer1Cameron released in 2010 a longer version of his movie, with like 15 minutes of new footage. Even a elongated earth scene featuring Jake Sully before he receives the offer to go on Pandora.
There are posts in the Forums and some reviews from respected reviewers who noticed horrible sharpening artefacts and could even back it up with screenshots/caps. And saying that these artefacts are even more visible when watching the movie. Didn't you notice anything like that ?
We all love the Extended Collectors Edition. But regardless of what people have said, the original Avatar is still a great movie. And I cant wait to see Avatar in 4K
Of course they will bring out the directors cut in 4k They done this to make more money for people to double dip on the film at a later time. I bet it's already been done there just holding it back for a later time to make as much money on this new one first. I bet they used the director's cut first for the 4k scan and knowing them just took those scenes out to make it the theatrical release and all they have to do is re edit them back in to make the director's' cut it's called greed and marketing. I won't be surprised there will be the director's cut for the 2023 new avatar film to bring in even more money again lol.
I've never seen the DC/extended version(s) but if James Cameron prefers his DC version then not including it on this release is suspicious...I am a huge fan of this movie and I'm really tempted to pick it up in but I would be extremely annoyed if in a few months they then release an "ultimate edition" which also includes the extended version(s). If they included all versions now then it would be an instant purchase...as it is I may have to wait for a bit and see what happens.
@@tigerblue42It’s been announced that Disney is rereleasing both movies on 4K yet again but this time in Dolby Vision as a Collector’s Edition. For the first movie, it includes all versions in 4K. Also includes 8 hours of bonus content. The difference is only the theatrical cut was released in a 4K HDR10 only disc with 3 hours of bonus content. For WOFW, it’s the same cut released before but in DV with new extras included. Those are releasing on December 21st later this year.
@@jordanmillraney5481 nice1, thanks. yer I saw this...unfortunately the new release puts the four discs in cardboard pockets which I'm definitely not a fan of. HMV UK have a steelbook coming in Feb for the original 3 disc (theatrical) so I'm hoping they will convert it to the multi-version or do another for the multi-version.
Upscaling as a term is not used correctly . That is why people say it is fake 4k. It should be called a rescan. Not an upscale. And upscale should be reserved to describe taking a vhs tape and turning it into 4k. Or an old dvd with out the proper information to extrapolate into true 4k. Words all just mean nothing anymore.
There's no Dolby Vision but you don't need it for this release. All the effects were mastered in 4k and HDR right at their original source so this 4k release of the Original Avatar is absolutely breathtaking. This is no ordinary disney release. Go buy it.
@@TwinFlicks So one more thing I need to know, my TV is a 1080P tv and I have watched Full HD Bluray movies..but not from Bluray discs. They were all downloaded from Internet normal 1080p blueray movies. Unless you have a very high end oled tv that's at least 75 inches or bigger 4K is negligible. Does it look better? Slightly,I've also seen horrid 4k transfers (Friday the 13th) 4k will remain a niche format as most people just don't care. There is a reason why DVD still outsells every other format. I just want to watch the movie,I am not paying attention to how green the trees are or how blue the sky is, I just don't care. The reason why your new 4k avatar doesn't have the other versions and special features is the double dip to get you to repurchase the movie again, they have been doing it for years.
@@RobertK1993 actually it's not I have heard from many experts in the field that a 55 inch is way to small to notice much difference. No Dolby Vision, a mostly static substandard Dolby Atmos mix, no IMAX aspect ratio, no director's cut. Typical Disney crap release. Not buying it or any other Disney disks until they change their attitude towards 4K disks.
Yes I'm aware this does not have Dolby Vision. I made a mistake. Sue me.
There's also no IMAX aspect ratio, and the Atmos mix isn't stellar as well... Would recommend to do some more analytic work in to the next video ;)
There is no "IMAX aspect ratio" they're both literally the same@@patrykwegierkiewicz9156

I’ll wait for an extended cut edition.
Am I crazy for preferring the original blu ray?
I can’t believe they didn’t include the director’s cut ! I’ve been looking for it for ages and now Disney won’t even release it 😢
You can probably find it on Ebay
What's the directors cut? Haven't heard of a dvd like that

Oh man. I can't wait
Just watched it last night and it was great.

To see the difference between 1080 and 4k you have to zoom in to 50% on both images
Maybe if your watching it on an old phone.
People have no idea that lots of movies were edited in 2K. Like The Lord of The Rings.
Right, there are many 2k to 4k upsamples and they look great.
Looks amazing in 4k shame it's not uncut version great vid
i’ll have to snag the 4K during BF sales

Disney has done it this time.
So much better on blu ray 3D, since 2009.
If you have a nice 3D TV the. Sure
No extended version is a deal breaker. Maybe we'll get that on a double-disc 4K release?
cheers!

It's not suspicious. It's Disney. They didn't want to spend the money and time to remaster the DC.
"It's Disney" hmmm...good point, well made ! 😁

Where did you get that from? He has stated It's his preferred cut.
Extended Cut 16 mins extra footage is his preferred cut
