Quick corrections - apparently the standard US set does not have Blu-ray Discs. UK does, but are not remastered.
And also yes the special features disc is in the Crystal Skull Steelbook case. So this does come with those legacy special features but nothing new. My fault there!
There is also an individually released Blu Ray set but it’s a straight repackage and not remastered.
The german standard release has the Blu Rays also (9 discs in total).
$100 for the 4K Bluray Steelbook set, or $35 for a 4K Digital set, hmmm not a hard decision for me. I already own the Bluray and DVD sets of these films when they were first released. This release seems very underwhelming. More price gouging by Paramount and Spielberg for three 30+ year old films, what a joke!
The movies come in dolby vision not just hdr
Streaming is the future. Nobody buys 4k disks, never mind regular bluray. You should be glad that they packaged it in anything at all. The movies look amazing btw.
I think the studio underestimated how popular this was going to be..My memories of watching Raiders as a kid with my parents in a theater is priceless and seeing it in 4k audio and video is a great happy experience. Thanks for the honest review.
"all the work they did should not be overlooked because of poor packaging" sounds like you're having a deep inner battle with that one.
I believe that is what he said, that the remastering was top notch/reference quality. I too believe they cheapened out on the packaging myself !!
Bro loved the zoomed in shots! Such a good idea.
If you to go the caps-a-holic website, you can do all sort of things with the screenshots, like flip between them, zoom in on any part you want to see closer, etc.
That’s why I consider you on the top review and movie channels, your reviews are so thorough and so well thought of and detailed. I love your screenshots comparing the Blu Ray to the 4K versions. I’m waiting on my steelbook purchase to arrive but I heard of the flimsy packaging as well but I can’t wait for my copies. Great review and keep up the wonderful work you give your fans.
I would also recommend to check out "The Movie Collector" on youtube ua-cam.com/channels/iuQkrF9UoEQ1PMgQe0FY-A.html. He has a background in movie projection and is a real encyclopedia of information, his reviews are brilliant, they go into so much detail about the history of the film as well as the quality of the movie.
Him and Jeff are by far my favourite movie channels and together a great source of info.
@@nick1635 I agree! He actually knows what he's talking about. A lot of times, "Films at Home" gives misleading or altogether false information just like in this video...
@@nick1635 I also recommend this site. www.highdefwatch.com/post/indy-returns-in-4k-uhd-glory-with-indiana-jones-4-movie-collection. No video reviews yet, but real HDR frame shots and the reviewers actually do their homework AKA watch the movies and verify what comes in the packaging before a review is posted...
@@chadkelley He makes so much mistakes about picture stuff, sound etc. And people with no knowlegde about the subject take everything as the truth. Better stick to websites like bluray.com, Highdef Digest among others. Reviewers who know what they are talking about.
Just watched the trilogy on 4K and was really impressed with the visuals. I was constantly in awe of how nice and clean the films looked. I also loved the Atmos soundtrack, but I often felt like the volume had to be adjusted between action scenes and dialogue. Not sure if that was just due to my system or if others experienced it too.
Appreciate the review!
im late to comment but i agree with your comment about the audio, i found it shockingly bad, the talking sounded like they were muttering but the music would come on far too loud, i also had to keep turning the volume up and down. after 30 mins in the 3rd film i gave up as i have had enough. i have tinnitus and hyperacusis in my ears and the sound jumps cause me a lot of ear pain. not to mention the actual sound quality wasnt great. avr and speakers are decent so the problem was the films
@@bawbag3715 glad it wasn't just me!
I prefer the steelbook over the standard edition because the discs are safely placed in a metal case compared to plastic holders.
How do you go about storing them? I love steelbooks in theory but you have to keep them apart due to scratching, & my OCD flips at the idea of a mixed plastic/steel shelf.
@@ddc2957 individual clear thick acetate protectors are available from eBay and Amazon (UK at least). I use the ones that's provide 100% cover, they resemble a 'gift box' with folded edges and retaining flaps.
Safe from what?
Until they start to rust unfortunately. They look really nice though.
You take them thru tornadoes wtf?
Jeff, love the all in transparency and detail feedback.
Me: “I’ll wait to get these.”
(Watched this video)
Me: “Well, guess I’ll go ahead and order it today.”
Gotta get that dopamine fix.
More than worth it, IMHO. Incredible transfers.
Jeff, agree about the flimsiness of the cardboard shell. When I went to Best Buy yesterday, they had one copy and the top of the shell was nasty looking. Looked like someone stepped on it. I was going to get it anyway, figured it was the individual steelbooks themselves that counted. I then looked closer and noticed that the front edge of the top was also torn right along the crease line. That was the only one they had at that store. I put it back, went to another Best Buy 7 miles away and got a pristine copy. Case closed.
First Star Wars, and now Indiana Jones.
Lucasfilm's iconic masterpieces are all 4K treatment.
We still need Willow.
@@ajzeg01
I'm referring to the core franchises.
@@ajzeg01 , and American Graffiti. Can't believe we actually got Howard the Duck in 4K before the actual original Star Wars trilogy.
Until they get rid off all those added effects from the first three count me out. Original or bust
I personally love the look of the steelbooks. I really like that white+red combo. Though I do agree about the actual cardboard. I thought it was odd when i got it.
I rather like the minimalist white look myself too
Fantastic channel dude!
I've recently bought a Sony A8H 4K OLED TV and 4K projector too, so began curating a 4K bluray collection to finally play on my PS5.
Your reviews have really helped me choose what movies to get or not.
Loved seeing nostalgic films from the 80s and 90s looking better than ever.
And these Atmos mixes are awesome!
My projector sadly doesn't have Dolby Vision (appears alot of home projectors don't) but HDR10 still pops 👍
I have always thought that HDR was more noticeable than the resolution. It's one of the main reasons I upgrade from Blu rays I already own to begin with. Your reviews really help!
Years ago I had VHS of the movies that became warped from heat and cold I had the nice dvd collection but for years I always tried to get Indiana jones on bluray they were very exspensive at the time so I never got them until yesterday at walmart right next to the 4k collection the bluray collection for 30 bucks was just sitting there I bought it came home omg just blu Ray's 1080p remastered audio just makes me happy I only own blurays to this day 1080p still looks awesome to me I know 4k probaly is the best bit I could careless I'm a bluray collector only and happy I ditched dvds a decade ago it's just a shame that physical media will not be made after awhile but it wont stay like that forever if records became popular again that show tell you history repeats I love the videos man and I love the 4k videos you do but 1080p blurays are still my fav cause 2007 was a special year to show me dvd only went to 480p nothing else
Yeaaaahhhhhh Boy! Most excited 4K re-release of the summer. You worked quickly!
My hope is once they release Indiana Jones 5 they will re-release a complete collection that will be more complete and better packaging. I can wait a few years still.
That’s true, but the real fortune and glory is the 4K 😂, but hopefully they indeed do a better packaging. I like it, but this masterpiece deserves much more! I’ll gladly buy the set if it’s beyond brilliant. If not, ill just snag the 4K Indy 5 (if it’s good, hopefully beyond brilliant). We will see! Hope for the best!
Also this is the first ever dvd I’ve got for Indy, so great timing of me JUST buying dvds and this releases!
@@ekahnoman7331 James Mangold is directing with Spielberg alongside him and the cast looks amazing, but we will have to wait and see. I’ve got hopes. Trust me
@@ekahnoman7331 oh yeah, but doubt Spielberg or James or even Harrison will let her ruin this. The Mandalorian and Clone Wars and Bad Batch are amazing despite her in power. Especially Harrison and Spielberg, Spielberg apologized for what was Crystal Skull and Harrison also wants a good end to the franchise. Hope this film will be a good end to the franchise and a worthy Indy film. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
@@ekahnoman7331 Oh very true, but doesnt matter much to me, I would still want the complete collection. I couldn't own all but 1 of a movie collection, that's my main reason not getting this release.
@@ekahnoman7331 i mean i could if i dont really care about the series, but not something as big as Indiana Jones.
Even with those Batman movies, never. I got the 4k steelbook set for those
Just got my Steelbook editions this week. Can't wait to check them all out! Appreciate the review.
I received the steel book version that I pre-ordered in May. I agree the external packaging is cheap, actual case design looks fine to me.
All are out if stock in all nearby BB stores. I was suprised when you reported that you were able to get one off the self day of release.
The Rambo steel book collection was awesome in theory and if you were lucky enough to get an undamaged box, every BB I went to had damaged them with security cable. I just went with the individual releases.
THIS is the best review I found online. Exactly what I was looking for. Subbed.
I started buying 4K blu rays two years ago. I love this channel!
Fantastic review!! Thanks for all the new content :)
Great review can't wait for the steelbooks to arrive.
Thank you very much for this great review. Any word on The Abyss in 4k seems like we are waiting for this one forever
It took forever for blu ray of the abyss.
Fantastic review, Jeff! You’re awesome at going in depth in your reviews and really explaining your reasons for why you like something or not. Really appreciate the Blu-Ray and 4K comparisons! Incredibly helpful to the physical media community!
Not a fan of the art underneath the discs being just an orange map. Would’ve liked the original posters or something else there. At least the 4K transfers have been getting great reviews, which is the most important element. I’m so torn though on whether to get the 4K or the original Blu-Ray release. I’m disappointed with the steelbook packaging as well. Would’ve liked the Rambo type or Avengers type. I loved how they perfectly slid in the the case with the foam protection. Cardboard dividers are just lazy and flimsy! Ironically for Best Buy in Canada, our situation was the complete opposite for the steelbooks and the standard editions. The steelbooks are still available to pre-order while the standard is completely sold out. Luckily I secured a standard edition in store but have yet to pick it up. I really hope it’s in good condition though! Also, my family are BIG Patriots fans. You’d love my home theatre! 😃
I agree about the packaging; however, the picture & sound quality is what I didn't want them to cut corners on.
You hear that, To Catch A Thief? 🔥🔥🔥
Great review! I bought the set on 6/9/21 and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I do disagree slightly with your assessment of Temple of Doom I never noticed how much soft lighting was used in the first 2 acts and how bright/sharp the 3rd act in the temple was. Spot on about the packaging & special features though.
Thanks for the review. I just ordered them based on it :)
I am asking this question since Indiana Jones is from Paramount, did you here anything for the original 6 Startrek movies for a 4K release at some point? I really dont understand why its not even done yet ? thanks for your reviews !!
Hi Jeff do you know if Temple of Doom is the uncut version on the disc ? Mine on blu ray says 118 min. Would be great if you could find out thanks your Alex 👍🙂
I just picked up my steelbook edition of Indy. I can't wait to watch them over the weekend
Very good review as usual.
It’s amazing, I also bought the steel book edition from Amazon FR, with exactly the same poor packaging and visuals, but good surprise, for each movie there is a 4K disk, and a blu-ray disk.
However, the Blu-rays disks included in the 4K package do not benefit from new masters. They are the same ones as those in the previous edition. I checked.
But, what an improvement between the former 1080p and the new 4K HDR édition!! I just love it, for both image and soundtrack !
Great review brother 💯 Definitely picking these up
Thank you so much for that very clear and thorough review!
Waiting for mine in steel-book to be delivered today. Thanks again.
Great video as usual. I had a chance to pick up the steelbook set yesterday but passed because of the design and quality. I'll wait for the standard set.
Thanks for this review. Just purchased the box set after watching.
Great video, I was able to get the steelbook collection as well!
Great review Jeff the 4K Transfers on the 1st 3 Indy films amazing and the Dolby Atmos mixes spectacular !!!
I've been waiting for your review bro. Thanks a lot! I will be buying these new versions on Apple TV on this new format.
The color scheme is a throwback to the special edition boxset of the films on VHS.
Does anyone know if they make blue 4K cases? I can’t stand the colour inconsistency on my shelf.
Did you notice during the cave sequence in Raiders, mainly when the spiders are on his back, I noticed some weird blurry/juddery parts during that part.
Same.
Ive always thought the greatest upgrade is immersive sound. Even the worst atmos tracks sound amazing on my system. My First atmos disc was Fury Road. Bluray w atmos. Couldnt believe it. Cant wait to check out the Ford Vs Ferrari 4k disc. Only had the bluray, which dominates in the audio dept for 7.1. But ive heard the atmos is even better. Cheers
Great vid Jeff. Can't wait for movie night Friday night.
Great video!! The packaging definitely missed the mark but I'm really happy we have these remastered copies now!
I ordered mine, from another vendor, as I usually buy from Best Buy, being an avid faithful customer since October 2000 AND a Reward Member since 2009, but, found "cheaper" by $35 dollars elsewhere. For the regular edition, WITH THE BLURAYS AND 4k AND EXTRAS (the one which not enough copies printed so waiting). Thanks for review.
Excellent review Jeff. Spot on. Here in the UK I purchased the Zavvi Steelbooks only because I thought the packaging on the standard 4K was even worse. I don’t like the white either it seems a very basic and odd design. Disappointing but Great picture great sound. All in all still a must have.
The only thing I want to know is whether the THX intro plays before the movie. I am desperately looking for Blu-ray and 4k discs which have the THX intro playin BEFORE the movie.
Been watching them the last few nights they look fantastic 👌
Just finished the first 3. Great picture quality and sound. I agree with your assessment on last crusade being best and temple of doom last.
hi Jeff.
Love this Review, I live in Denmark, I bought the standard edition at amazon uk and got it 2 days ago, and am must say I am disappointed with the cover,
cheap cardboard box, print on disk was just black writing.
greeting from happy subscribers.
LOVE THE VIDEO COMPARISON!!!!
KEEP IT COMING SIR!!!
Your info on this 4K set is absolutely perfect!!!
I have to say..I miss the THX certification.
Excellent review Thanks!!
Great comments on it. @ $25/disc you need Blu-ray’s & the nice rubber dividers.
Just dump the cardboard packaging and turkey bag them suckers.
I preordered from Amazon when it was first announced, received an email today from Amazon saying it is being delayed as you said until June 20th. I have been looking forward to this release, glad to see by your screenshots it was a good purchase.
the blu-rays have so much edge bleeding. i never noticed that until the uhd came out.
also, how do you capture a frame with hdr? can you explain that to me please?
according to the guys at caps a holic it is simply not possible right now.
Hi! Im from Chile... how about the other audio? Does it come in latin american spanish or hispanic spanish??? Thanks
Great review! Thank you.
Huh. I always thought something was "off" with the blu rays, they just didn't feel like the movies I knew but couldn't put my finger on why. Seeing those color comparisons makes me realise why. Even more excited to sit down with the 4K set now.
I went to my local Best Buy yesterday to pick it up and the woman working the customer service area went to the back and got me the steelbook set. I wasn't looking to spend that much, but she gave it to me for the same price as the standard 4K set. Like you said, the biggest issue I have is the flimsy box and the art style. I might trade out my blu-ray discs and put the 4K discs in the blu-ray collection set because that box and art style looks so much better than the 4K box.
Can I have the digital code if you're not going to use them?
These discs on the steelbooks are extremely hard to get out any tips? Feels like they are about the break when taking out of the case..
Was waiting for the review. Glad to see the movies themselves are a serious upgrade. Looking forward to it.
Just got this last night on vudu so excited to finally have these movies in 4k!!
How do you find so much time to sit and watch tv?
Been looking forward to the Raiders 4k for sometime.. can't wait. Pre-ordered steelbook but UPS says their shipping of it is delayed.. hopefully be here soon... I get the packaging issue (felt that way about the Hitchcock set, like you needed to manhandle the discs to get it out of those sleeves), sounds like this one is that it's just nothing special then.. thanks for the review!
hi.. do you know what the blu ray version box from 2023 is like? compared to the 4k version
Do you know if they will sell these individually? Raiders is my all time favorite
Don’t want Crystal Skull? No one did
@@rayclawson5561 Hahahahaha
Not 4k yet
I wish.. bet it'll be awhile if they do. Making fans get the whole thing first is a business decision since not all of them would sell as well separately
@David Mander Next to CS, ToD is oft derided among Indy fans and even just general film fans
In Europe you get the Blu-Rays and a bonus disc (think it's the same bonus disc as previously available, though I haven't went over it yet) with the steels. No digital copies though, haven't had a lot of those the last handfull of years in Europe.
Picked my steelbook yesterday instore. It’s the best transfer
Looking forward to getting my copy
The only interest I have in KotCS is it was filmed on film but the first release was super glossy. Curious if the 4K restores the film touch to it.
Great delivery and analysis
The steelbook boxset costs £130.00 (about US $180!) from Zavvi here in the UK. I got mine on Monday and I agree that the packaging is very poor, so much so that I emailed Paramount about it, especially at the price this costs. Mine arrived in a box that was undamaged but the contents had gotten slightly crushed in transit. The steelbooks are, thankfully, undamaged. I think the design is okay but nothing special. I agree that the white colour theme is an odd choice for this franchise.
Just got this set a couple months back. Only checked out the first few minutes of the first film. But it looked great. Sounded great. Just need some time to watch em all
I have one question, is the standard blu ray version of this release just a lower resolution 1080p version of the same film masters of the 4K or are they the same discs as the 2012 release?
New masters
Great review 👍 wonder if there will be a deluxe box set after the 5th film comes out 🤔
yea a lot of my friends in the UK say the same on the packaging .its a let down but brilliant sound and visual.great review as always.
I've been waiting for these
Thanks Jeff, I’m going to wait for the standard 4K
Tell me is the new bluray box set the new remasters or the same old blurays.
Got my steel book collection today! Can’t wait for summer movie nights ! Enjoy guys
What's the method you're using to pull 4K stills?
Good review. Still on the fence about buying it.
The bonus features disc is in the Crystal Skull case
The last place I looked. Just realized that made it in the video though - my fault for rushing an edit to get this out! But thanks for the heads up. I made a correction
Too bad nobody will look in there.
@@pizzatime2001
True lol.
If the bonus materials are actually included, any reason to keep the Blu-ray release other than the discs?
I'm glad I waited on that white steelbook set. The individual steelbooks they're releasing now are much better.
I just got the steelbook set from best buy yesterday
Great review as always!! Question- you know of any more info on a USA 4k release of Zack Snyder's Justice League?
Amazon delayed my preorder from March. So mad at them.
They’re assholes. They know that most American purchases go through them so they know they can be jerks. It’s not like you can leave them, there’s no one else to buy from anymore. So far I’ve only bought an outfit from Amazon and a used DVD from a seller, and while they both turned out great, I take that as the exception and not the rule.
i never cared about Blu-ray's or 4K but it seems the 4K's are like upgraded versions of the 2003 DVD's cause they almost look the same. the reason DVD's are good enough for is because i don't care about seeing skin imperfections or beard details or other tiny things that are irrelevant, just has long the picture is not a pixilated mess im good
I did not order this yet, but I think I am getting the regular 4K box set. Steelbook is ok, but nothing great. Great review!!
Hyped to get this. Btw I love Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as much as the other Indiana Jones movies.
I got the steelbook one too. I totally agree about the box. It feels like it's going to fall apart. Also, the discs are extremely hard to get out. Finally, my ToD disc is slighly scratched, & I'm not sure if it will play right. But I'm not exchanging it since getting the Best Buy sets won't be possible in time. I'll just get a replacement disc when each of the movies are individually on sale.
Glad I went for the standard 4k set, not happy as it’s been delayed.
i hope the 4k standard edition ships soon. i can’t wait to see them again for the 1000 time
I actually just took my steelbooks out of the box and have them on my shelf individually because the outer box looks so cheap. Pretty disappointing, honestly.
Is any anybody else having serious delays in getting the standard 4k set.? I ordered mine the first day of pre sale on Amazon and there is still no delivery date
It's this way for everyone. They done fucked it up.
Well great review as always Jeff I actually think the steel books look actually really good I wish that they were brown and gold on the outside but I am also very disappointed in the keep box for these in the movies they should’ve been better especially Steel book edition that we got with Rambo that was awesome and I’m deathly gonna try to get her Rambo steel book addition. So because I still don’t have a 4K TV and a 4K player I still need Blu-ray 4K combo packs so I guess I’m going to be getting the standard version on Amazon maybe during prime day.
As much as I'd like to pick this up now, part of me is wondering if I shouldn't wait until the fifth movie comes out just to see if they do a newer set with all five films. The new 4K remasters do look very tempting, though...
Awesome review!
I’m still waiting on my standard edition as well. Got a message indicating they were back ordered.
