I started watching Grey's Anatomy like think my sophomore year of high school through nextflix, and I just have to say binge watching greys was the first time where I really connected to characters-- every single time someone died I cried, ugly cry- like red puffy face and snot running down my chin, but honestly I loved it and was addicted to these characters. I think that is what is so unique about this show is that there is usually something in every single character that you can relate to and they show the good and the ugly in their lives. And also I was one of those fans who was after Lexi and McSteamy died, I was like why are they putting me through this pain- like I actually felt pain and heartbreak. This is why I continue to watch. I am connected to these people.
Please don’t let this be the last season! Not during 2020! We can’t handle it! Too many horrible things have happened this year, losing Greys is not something that can happen this year.
my favorite thing is Debbie Allen talking about stealing clothes while wearing an outfit that looks like it was pulled straight out of Catherine Avery's closet XD
I think the series has done like 2 if/thens. One with Christina, what if she went back to Owen and One with Meredith, what if she grew up with both of her parents with Webber as her father.
Chandra remembers George! Yes that is sad episode, it's hard to let go... And I also love the "Sound of Silence" episode... Ellen is always great! Whenever someone dies, it's nice that they know that we (fans) are really getting mad while you enjoy doing your stuff 😂 and now we are looking forward for the season 17. Kudos ladies! GA is indeed a wonderful brilliant show with all the brilliant show runners, directors and stars!
I love that Meredith was dark and twisty but still a doctor, still successfull like I loved it. because like to me at least it meant you can overcome that dark and twisty part of yourself and work thru it. And just like Meredith you´ll be fine. we don´t have to be happy positive all the time like Izzie. We can be like Meredith, we can be ourselves and It'll be fine

Greys anatomy inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. I wanted to be just like Cristina. Now I work in cardiology and am an active worker in treating COVID patients almost every day.

As a white mother of a child of color, it was Grey's that taught me I needed to have 'the talk'. I knew he was at great risk from police, but I didn't know how to help him survive an encounter. Grey's not only informed me, but it modelled to me what this looks like. Thank you always for championing the underrepresented and inspiring us to greater things and greater equality.
Have to agree that one episode that just made me cry and feel everything was when Meredith was attacked. I truly felt like a friend was hurting right in front of my eyes and I couldn't help.
Thank you Variety for making this interview!! This was really very interesting! We need a weekly series of that with other members of the cast and crew haha!
all the things they talked about how greys has changed television and brought light to so many things, is exactly the reason why so many fans do not want this show to end. this show is so extremely powerful.
I'm a paramedic and I'm so, so very tired. Thank you so much. You have such a platform and I am very grateful for what you've chosen to do with your platform. It's all true, friends, it's all bad. Thank you.
Watching these women talk each other up, talk minorities up, talk important issues, that should be resolved by now, is so beautiful and empowering, heartfelt
I end up thinking too much about fistulas, ha! I had surgery during the middle of my binge and was worried about something random happening during my surgery.
I introduced the show to my sister who studies nursing and now she loves it! And we're Taiwanese. I started watching grey's in middle school and it truly opened my eyes to a whole different world.
I lowkey hope there is more hispanic representation especially for dark skin toned hispanics because we had Callie and delucas girlfriend that went to Yangs hospital.
I’ve watched greys anatomy since I was six years old. It has been an distraction for me during the toughest parts of my life and it has given me clarity for what I want to do with my life. I’m going to become a paramedic because of greys. It has showed me that it is possible to chase your dreams. Greys is all I’ve known for the past 15 years and without it so many people including myself would be lost without it. I hope that greys anatomy stays for as long as as possible with or without Ellen because it’s not just her that made the show what it is today. There are so many characters on the show that still have so much more to give to the audience and to fulfil in their own characters storyline’s. To see them all happy and Zola perform her first ever surgery in greys Sloan memorial, that would be the end but we really are just so far from that. I understand Ellen needs to spread her wings and she has her own opinion on the show but her thoughts are one sided. The rest of the people from greys don’t see it the same way and still believe that there is so much left to say. Greys anatomy in itself deserves to have that one final season that is extraordinary and epic. It should be something that is just canceled after the series final has just aired.
I have been tweeting about Bohkee cause so far, she has showed up at a party, made a comment about someone liking somebody else, and prayed for one of the doctors prior to surgery. Honestly, we would love to know Bohkee!!
I'm seeing this for the first time in Spring of 2022, and I can't stand the thought of Gray's Anatomy having a final episode. This has been a strong part of my life. I have learned from the medical moments, and loved the actors like family. There is nothing on air that compares to this programming. This interview has me in tears. Thank you for your exceptional writing, directing and acting. Love you all!! 💗💗
the grey’s episode that made me cry the most was, “how to save a life” or 11.21 or the one where derek died. i cried like a baby and i couldn’t stop crying for hours. i knew he was going to die in that episode and i tried to prepare myself but no, i cried and cried. i also cried during all of the episodes after that one in s11 and a lot in s12. basically every time they mentioned derek i cried. his death was so powerful in the way it affected meredith in so many ways for so long. (and other characters)
This show aired in 2005 and I had my twins in 2006. I have watched every episode like 100 times. My daughter has been in the room since birth watching with me. And when she was in 6 or 7 she said she wanted to be a pediatric neurosurgeon. She is 14 now and is still watching and wanting to be a surgeon. She has had straight A's since the first grade and has ALREADY been looking at colleges. This show has been a HUGE part of our life. ❤
* cue chasing cars in the background at the end* This show has aired some powerful episodes and told some beautiful stories. Definitely feel like I've grown up with these characters.
I’m going through a very tough anxiety inducing time right now and Grey’s in my comfort show... This show brings me so much comfort. Thank you all for creating such a wonderful show
Talk about some weeping...Cristina’s exit, y’all...I have always been so inspired by Cristina and have aspired to be such a spitfire like her. I sincerely revere Sandra Oh for playing that role with such dignity and grace and making Cristina so real for me for way longer than just 10 seasons! Much love to all these ladies and for Grey’s for being the best show to ever grace TV. It has done so much for all of us who have hung in there since 2005.❤️
I can't believe that Debbie Allen is 70y.o now! I remember watching her on 'FAME'! Many people here probably don't know it but it was huge in the early 80s
I recently rewatched the shooter episodes. It has always made me cry - seeing Meredith watch Derek fall and Christina pulling her away, her losing the baby. But this time, I'm almost done with medical school and I SOBBED watching Bailey comfort Percy in his final moments. That scene had never really gotten me before but imagining what it would be like to have a colleague die in my lap broke me! While I can't say this show is the reason I wanted to go to medical school, it absolutely normalized female doctor's so I didn't even question that this was the right career path!
I literally had just finished the episode Ellen described about the two gay soldiers kissing!!! It's Season 4 Episode 14! Wow that was a mind blowing coincidence! hahah
I am constantly rewatching Grey's! I don't usually rewatch after season 11 or 12 because the show is just not the same with so many of the original cast not being there. I still love the show and look forward to each new episode. However, the first 11 seasons were much better than the current ones. I really wish they didn't kill Lexie and Mark. They were and still are my favourite couple! I know Chyler Leigh wanted more time with her kids back then but she went back to acting a couple of years later and she has been on a show ever since. I really wish they gave her and Mark the chance to return as they did with Izzie, Cristina and Alex, although we know Sandra Oh has been clear that she isn't coming back and Justin Chambers may only come back for the final episode.
I thought I wouldn’t want to watch either after S11 but it’s just as addictive; every time a new actor is introduced, you usually don’t like them at first but if you give them a show or two, you’ll be surprised how you will still love the show! Just think... it went on 7 now 8 more seasons for some reason!
@@JR-xe9bv, I have watched every single episode. What I said is that I don't usually rewatch after season 11-12. I have rewatched seasons 1-11 at least 3 times and am currently rewatching it whilst waiting for season 17.

This show was my inspiration to become a doctor! And until this day, I go back to it when I’m down and need to remind myself why I came into it and keep going. I want to fight to have that same representation in the medical field in my country. Thank you for inspiring me and so many others!
Great interview !!! I love how all the women have great admiration and respect for each other. They also took the time to acknowledge Shonda Rhimes , Sandra Oh and several other women who contributed immensely to the show. Some many powerful episodes through the years.
I am so excited for this season, I hope they play it out similar to how it happened; all of a sudden its all over the news, patients coming in and doctors/nurses not having much knowledge on COVID, some scenes of maybe the cast helping to find a vaccine, as well as showing the trouble of quaruntine for families not being able to see their loved ones in the hospital and the downfall of mental health. I know its going to be a tough season to watch but im so happy they choose to do this story line.
I feel like in the past they have avoided talking about older episodes or characters and i always found that so sad so it’s nice to hear them talking about sandra oh and george o’malley
I am obsessed with Grey's Anatomy. I have watched all seasons in less than 5 months and i can't wait for the new season. I also got my best friend to watch it and she loved it too. Now i have someone to chat with about it. It has amazing characters and the actors are made for the roals that they play. In every episode there is a different story. Someone's life story. It is so amazing because except from all the medical things that i have learned,it also teached me many things about life and the community we live today. I am 16 and after watching the show i know that life will get hard, but if we stay strong we can get through the hard times and get to the other side stronger. Also we have to fight for what we want because no one is going to just hand it to us. I LOVE GREY'S ANATOMY AND ELLEN POMPEO!!!!! Thank you lol

Amazing group interview, Variety! Like Chandra said, these characters live right on my screen and I started binging the show from Pilot, spending my whole summer catching up on all of it in time for the S11 premiere. I cried/cry a lot watching this show, be it sweet or sad moments. I am a huge crier at death though, and having invested in these characters like they're family, I think I cry the most when we hit the death of impactful, beloved characters, such as George, Lexie, Mark, Derek, and even Denny.
The thing I love about Grey’s Anatomy is the fact they aren’t scared to tackle real life stories. The only way we could ever have gotten this season was for a little of COVID to be part of the show. I’m interested in psychology through watching this show. When I rewatch the show I can never just watch one episode though I always say that. Once I was four seasons in again and it was time to go to bed

I am connected to these people.
me too. i cried for hours when derek and mark died. it broke my heart
amen
Derick and Mark I was like nahhh fam! Nothing to watch here again, but then I was wrong
The episode where Bailey tells her son about how he won't be playing by the same rules broke my heart.
what episode is this?
14×10
It's very very powerful.

by far that scene has been the most touching In the entire show
Please don’t let this be the last season! Not during 2020! We can’t handle it! Too many horrible things have happened this year, losing Greys is not something that can happen this year.
i agree!!!!
YES!!!
YES I Definitely & Totally Agree!
I heard Owen already signed a contract for 3 more years. Not sure if it’s true just something I heard.
@@keshianolen4388 Owen’s Anatomy hahaha
my favorite thing is Debbie Allen talking about stealing clothes while wearing an outfit that looks like it was pulled straight out of Catherine Avery's closet XD
Haha....that was too funny...keeping her character clothes is part of her contract 😁
i really want a episode where they do a if/then and bring back derek, mark, lexie, george, izzie, cristina, alex, april, callie, arizona, addison, etc
There is little chance izzie will come back for real. Shonda and her are not on good terms. Katherine got a big head unfortunately
@@Klambra0702 yeah..i really doubt izzie will return but i have hope for george or april
Finally someone who agrees with me I really want them back and get rid of all the new ppl
I think the series has done like 2 if/thens. One with Christina, what if she went back to Owen and One with Meredith, what if she grew up with both of her parents with Webber as her father.
Ok but I flat out forgot about george
Chandra remembers George! Yes that is sad episode, it's hard to let go... And I also love the "Sound of Silence" episode... Ellen is always great! Whenever someone dies, it's nice that they know that we (fans) are really getting mad while you enjoy doing your stuff 😂 and now we are looking forward for the season 17. Kudos ladies! GA is indeed a wonderful brilliant show with all the brilliant show runners, directors and stars!
aww, ellen saying she was losing it in season 12, that was the first season without patrick
Where? I missed that
@@night_light3393 37 minutes
She and Patrick reportedly did not get along, though. So I don't know if him not being there was necessarily a loss for her - just an adjustment.
That was the part when she needs to prove that Grey's Anatomy is still a great series even without Patrick. And she did.
@@laylanandao9673 yes it’s still a great show of course, but still not the same without him.
The only thing i am not down for is again a season premiere cross over. I. DONT. WANT. TO. WATCH. STATION. 19. IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND A SHOW I HAVE WATCHED FOR OVER A DECADE.
Yea I agree but that’s the whole point is they want u to go watch station 19 cause then u watch the ads and they get money
Its very much worth it tho
@@viiilllyyy not to me. I do not watch the show so it makes no sense to me to watch it when i dont know characters or story lines 🤷🏼♀️ just my opinion
I’m always down for more Ben Warren though.
It’s actually a good show I would recommend it
It’s cool that she pointed out that they hired the extras for the season. I didn’t think about extras. It will be cool to see familiar background faces throughout the season.
This show really did think of everything
Ellen Pompeo is Glowing, This woman age like wine. She actually 51
IKR! I was thinking about. She looks different in scrubs and a cap.
She 50 51 on nov 10
WAIT WHAT? HOW IS SHE 50????
She was 30 when the show first started she looked like a baby. A lot of people say I still look 13 even though I’m 22.
@@rrosemccoy She was 34-35 when the show started.
Greys anatomy inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. I wanted to be just like Cristina. Now I work in cardiology and am an active worker in treating COVID patients almost every day.
you’re brilliant
Don’t end the show yet! I need at least 20 seasons (I know I’m being greedy but idc I can’t live without this show 😭).
I know everyone moans saying the show should end but they’ll miss it when it’s gone

I love how Shonda portrayed the women in this show. She doesn't portray them as weak, she portrays them as strong, strong mothers, creative, and so on. Like when Kepner gave birth on a kitchen table with no pain killers or anything like that's amazing. From season 1 to season 16 she has done a good job with how she portrays women. Thats amazing.
"Fearless creative thinker" that was a beautiful way to describe Shonda
As a white mother of a child of color, it was Grey's that taught me I needed to have 'the talk'. I knew he was at great risk from police, but I didn't know how to help him survive an encounter. Grey's not only informed me, but it modelled to me what this looks like. Thank you always for championing the underrepresented and inspiring us to greater things and greater equality.
Have to agree that one episode that just made me cry and feel everything was when Meredith was attacked. I truly felt like a friend was hurting right in front of my eyes and I couldn't help.
Which episode is it?

It’s so weird that they’re actors, it seems more natural to believe they are real doctors they don’t look like actors.
Thank you Variety for making this interview!! This was really very interesting! We need a weekly series of that with other members of the cast and crew haha!
I like “Meredith” the moment I watched the show, and after that I never stopped watching. You all are an inspiration!
So glad they shared those "bad decisions" and how the show let women characters fight the "likable fight." Whoa!! I hadn't thought about that!
all the things they talked about how greys has changed television and brought light to so many things, is exactly the reason why so many fans do not want this show to end. this show is so extremely powerful.
I'm a paramedic and I'm so, so very tired. Thank you so much. You have such a platform and I am very grateful for what you've chosen to do with your platform. It's all true, friends, it's all bad. Thank you.
It was wonderful to be privy to a conversation between these intelligent, creative, successful, talented professionals of television.
Try Red Table Talk!
Watching these women talk each other up, talk minorities up, talk important issues, that should be resolved by now, is so beautiful and empowering, heartfelt
Does anyone’s else’s keep glitching? Mine has about 3 times throughout

I can't binge this show; it sends me into an existential crisis in which I realize just how fragile life is. I can't do it.
me too it sends me into a depressive episode
I end up thinking too much about fistulas, ha! I had surgery during the middle of my binge and was worried about something random happening during my surgery.
Really? I’ve rewatched it like 3x I’m on my fourth. I’m rewatching it now it brings me so much jot…I’ve def cried a lot too but it’s soooo good !!
I just started rewatching season 1. Can’t believe how different Bailey / Chandra looks!
Ellen mentioning Sandra just makes my heart melt, I wish Sandra would come back!!!
This was actually very strong and eye opening... I admire them so much
I introduced the show to my sister who studies nursing and now she loves it! And we're Taiwanese. I started watching grey's in middle school and it truly opened my eyes to a whole different world.
I lowkey hope there is more hispanic representation especially for dark skin toned hispanics because we had Callie and delucas girlfriend that went to Yangs hospital.
we need more latinx representation!
I want Callie back❤️

i was just thinking this
There are two new hispanic female student doctors this season.
Early episodes of miranda bailey is awesome AF. The sass and authority she possessed and still possesses is amazing.
I can honestly say this show has changed my life. I’ve grown up with it and appreciate all the lessons more now than ever. Great Interview!
your baby was raised by Dr. Webber soothing tones and wanted to be a Dr. McDreamyEvilSpawn :) best story ever
* cue chasing cars in the background at the end* This show has aired some powerful episodes and told some beautiful stories. Definitely feel like I've grown up with these characters.
When the show finally comes to an end...if it doesn't end with this song playing in the background...I'm going to be a little disappointed
Ellen is such a eloquent speaker, i love her.
Basically a tribute to the fantastic Sandra Oh🙏
I agree! Sandra Oh is an extremely talented actress and an overall remarkable woman! She is just such an inspiration!

I know the show cant go on forever but them saying that Ellen is considering ending the show after this season made my heart stop
This interview was everything I didn’t know I needed!!!!
The fact that Krista even considered to ignore the pandemic, baffles me. This pandemic can offer so many heartbreaking and life changing storylines.

I love how chandra talked about that one episode that miranda bailey would’ve picked as well (007) 🥺
I am so excited for this season, I hope they play it out similar to how it happened; all of a sudden its all over the news, patients coming in and doctors/nurses not having much knowledge on COVID, some scenes of maybe the cast helping to find a vaccine, as well as showing the trouble of quaruntine for families not being able to see their loved ones in the hospital and the downfall of mental health. I know its going to be a tough season to watch but im so happy they choose to do this story line.
The shooting episode. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time
I feel like in the past they have avoided talking about older episodes or characters and i always found that so sad so it’s nice to hear them talking about sandra oh and george o’malley

Still wondering when we'll be getting a Filipino nurse in the cast considering they make up 20% of registered nurses in the US.
