katherine dimaggio I personally think it slowly gets worse after she leaves. Like certain characters thrive but once they started backpedaling, it got worse. So now, when I rewatch, I stop after Cristina leaves
Stopped watching it after Christina left. The show ended for me there. Why even have a 'person' if they're easily replaceable, really says something about the state of the show. Goes without saying that when they axed Derek in quick succession after Yang, that too made me quit. I won't fault Ellen Pompeo for staying - she's making bank, and it doesn't seem like there has been any other offers - anyone in her position would. But Meredith's storyline ended when they both left.
The first 3 seasons of every show are always the best. Four, maybe five if they are really lucky. After five years, they either plateau for while then sink or just sink point blank. No show should go on forever. Honestly. Compare any shows first and last season. Friends, Charmed, ER, Vampire Diaries, Once Upon A Time. It’s just how it is.
@@springlady8337 I personally think that it isn't necessarily that the show "downgrades" but evolves to fit a new audience, a new generation. Similar to shows like Skins that focus on new characters after a few seasons, Grey's just evolved into Meredith and Alex taking on those teaching roles and allowing for the new cast to sort of shine and tell their story. Just like life, people move on. They change, they grow, and they start forming the new generations so they can one day take over. It helps get new audiences involved in the show. You keep the older audience who has been there since the start and is maybe going through the same life transitions (i.e. kids, marriage, loss), but you can also reel in those people who are experiencing the life of interns and residents (finishing college, embarking on their new career, dealing with hardass bosses) I think to really stay into a long-running show like this, people need to treat it as an evolution and less like they're watching the same show week by week. I have my favorite seasons that I go back to watch during the off-season. I reminisce over the way I felt the first time I experienced it all, but I also appreciate just how much the show has grown over time.

Christina Yang was such an influential character for me to watch as a teenager. A fiercely loyal, intelligent, diligent and confident woman who absolutely knew her skills and her value. She always demanded more, and that was such a positive role model for me, and I’m sure so many other girls and women.
the fact that ppl wouldn't cast her as much cause of her being partly Asian is crazy to me.. it also amazed me when they wouldn't cast her as Christina, because in my opinion she is far better actress than the main lead. (not to compare fellow actresses but I do believe that Sandra carried out a maybe more experienced performance)
