This was the very best video I found on UA-cam and the entire internet for the job that had been plaguing me for hours. I needed an easy installation video for a beginner, and this one was the most helpful for my needs. Bravo! I was able to fully install a faucet and connect it to the sink drain for the first time, but only because of the careful and patience guidance. Thank you for being so helpful!!
Great video. I don't know anything about plumbing . This not only showed me what to do but that it probably isn't going to be as difficult as I thought. Famous last word for a DIY' er lol.
Exactly what I am looking for. My p trap doesn't line up with drain with new floating vanity. This would solves it. The flexible P-trap is not up to code, but this method is. Thanks.
I just changed my vanity top with sink. It was leaking from sink drain I put on new ptrap sink side stopped leaking but other side with fixed flange leaking when sink bowl is filled. I think alignment is off. Good video
The pitch of the pipes is way off. Water flows down not up. The black pipe needs to be pitched higher which means cutting more off the downward pipe from the sink.
I noticed no P trap on the one your taking out. I pretty much have the same and going to replace it with a P trap kit. I'm wondering if there is any danger with fumes / waste or gases of not having a correct P trap?
Where did you get the pipe piece that you connected to the pipe that came with the faucet/sink? My P trap kit didn't have that 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 piece with it.
I did twin faucets in my owner's bathroom and for one reused my old one after cleaning, but I had to buy it separately for a the second one since the vertical drain extension was too short. They sell them in 6 or 12 inch lengths at Home Depot. I cut with a hacksaw to size, similar saw he had.
Nice video, man. Question. I just installed a new sink and I noticed the sink drain hole and the p-trap do not line up. The previous owners did a bathroom remodel and used black pvc pipe. I’m assuming the holes aren’t lining up due to piping being customized for copper sinks they installed. I heard flex pipe is no good, so would I need to redo the entire piping in order to line up the holes?
I assume you are saying the pipe straight down from the sink hole does not line up with the drain hole in the wall. That's a common issue for one drain and they rarely match perfectly. If you have a kitchen sink with 2 drains it is always an issue. However, it's not a problem. The p trap itself is in 2 pieces for just that reason. Those 2 pieces can swivel into any position to create an angle that works for you. All that matters is that you have a p shape to trap water in the drain line and prevent gases or bugs from entering the house via the drain.
The pipe coming down from my new sink drain does not line up with the p trap. Is my only option to cut the pipe coming from the wall and add a small section? I hate to do this because the last plumber added a contraption with metal fasteners there! Thank you for any help. Would love to see another video with this sort of mismatch addressed.
the p-trap arm was already in place so was the video doesn't cover how to install that. Is it supposed to have a slight slope? We are having slow drainage that we know is not due to a clog in the pipe or vent and was reading that if the ptrap arm is level or sloped towards the ptrap that it will cause the same issue as not having an overflow. Can you confirm this is correct before we take our pipe apart?
No matter what I do the 90 degree with built in nut and beveled end, keeps leaking where it meets the p trap. I’ve tried taking everything apart and slowly matching up, but it won’t stop leaking. Any ideas?
You are not supposed to use pliers or wrenches. Hand tighten. I’d you use pliers or a wrench you should only do 1/4 turn after you have hand tightened.
Hello I came across this video.. Quick question, candle wax spilled in the sink and it stopped up, can I remove the pipes this way and try to remove the wax?
All you really need is to replace the current washer where the top of the P trap meets with your pop up assembly with a 1 1/2"-1 1/4" reducing washer if you haven't gotten it already.
Hi! I don’t put pipe dope on p-trap because the one I used uses a slip nut. It comes with a rubber gasket on the inside that seals the joints when tightened. You only topically use pipe dope for pipes under pressure. P-traps are not under pressure. These joints need to be able to be disconnected with slip nuts in order to be disassembled quickly incase you need to unclog the p trap or replace it for convenience.
Those joints are made by compression via. a compression washer or the molded tapered end of the J-tube portion of the p-trap assembly, no Teflon tape or plumbers putty required.

Very nice. But what about old 50 yr old pipe from the wall?? Mine leaks- plastic to metal.

Dude just a quick look at your install and i realized my trap was on backwards, duh. Quick fix though. Thanks so much.

So the fittings with a bevelled mating end do not need washers under the nut/collar ... perfect, that was my question!
TY!!!
You’re welcome! 🙏🏽👍🏽😊

The downward pipe from the sink, as in the pipe attached to the sink needs to be cut?
@@AlkalineInsides Yes. Shortening that pipe slightly will angle the black pipe upwards slightly so water will slope towards the wall.

Clean up the cut or hair will easily get caught and you will have to clean it out frequently.
Thanks so much! On my way to the big box store!
Thank you for watching! 🙏🏽😊
Good work on that nut and straight pipe!

@@FixThisHouse No problem.
Fantastic video. Thank you!
Just curious, but is it not a requirement to have sealer glue to paste on each connector?
A must have for sure to keep the stink out, great video.
Thank you 🙏🏽 so much!
Fantastic video!!!
Thank you 🙏🏽
Great video you just solved an issue I was having thx my guy keep the vids coming watching from Phx Az
I took my p trap apart to clean it and now I have 1 extta part left 😅 don't understand where it needs to go. Can I sent a pic of it ?
what if u had a cast iron pipe in the wall instead of the black plastik one? how u cut it? how u replace it?

Yes unfortunately will need to add a section of tubing and bring out the connection where it does match with the down tube from the sink.
Can I get a 90 degree for a 1 1/2 in pipe? Or do I use the 1 1/2 in pipe connector

plumbers putty
You could also try Teflon tape or thread sealant. I like Tru-Blu
Thanks!

PVC to ABS?

Sometimes it’s not enough if you’re a woman or they get stuck and out dexterity/coordination is generally less precise.

That is possible if you have this type of locking system. 👍🏽😊
Thank you
1:07 - They're called slip joint nuts or lock nuts
There was no P Trap before!!! Gasses can go back into the house. That flex piping should be illegal.
Other common mistake is 1-1/4 inch pipe is for bathroom
1-1/2 is for kitchen people get the 1/2 often an mix them up an wonder why they don’t fit
I have a bathroom sink drain pipe of 1 1/4 but the p trap & wall pipe is 1/1/2, now what do I do, no wonder it leaked?
Hi! I would get a 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 coupling trap adaptor. They have A brand called Keeney on Home Depot or Lowe’s that carry those transition pieces 👍🏽😊

The pipe threads should be wrapped with teflon tape for a more secure connection.

Hi! 1-1/2 is what is commonly used in the United States for sink drainage 👍🏽😊
@@FixThisHouse Gracias. Have nice weekend

1 1/2" for kitchen sinks. 1 1/4" for bathrooms.
@@kennywonderley5883 so how did this guy use 1 1/2 for this video?
What’s that part number
you should teflon tape all threads, sand bur's off pipe you cut or it grabs hair etc..
Thank you for the tip!
For a professional installation you do not Teflon a p trap
@@slickrick3732 gaskets = no teflon needed.
Is it called a p trap because you’re supposed to urinate in it?
😂
If it wasnt for pluming i would have a headache
PVC to ABS to PVC....
"manufacturedly"😂
I cringed when I saw the flexi pipe
People will charge you hundreds of dollars to replace your vanity. $250 or more.
You’ll fail any inspection
Not in this economy.
Also insurance wont pay if it floods.
This will leak ! Guaranteed
Been months now. No leak yet 😁
Why would it leak?
Tried it, but the nut doesn't get tight, and the pipe pops out.
