Of all the darned "expert" plumbing videos on this topic, yours is the best. There's not one that explains that flat tail piece washer vs. the beveled, smooth washer. I went to the hardware store to get help and I was given the correct metal washer to connect to the strainer, but it had the wrong washer! So since I'm no expert plumber, of course I thought the guy gave me the correct stuff and I struggled with it, driving me mad! I realized there had to be a different shaped washer. You verified it for me and made me sane again. Thank you for the video and your attention to detail!
God, I love the internet and these videos. I just fixed our sink myself. I didn't even need the PVC glue we bought. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't know who you are, but I really appreciate you.
We just successfully installed a new kitchen sink, thanks to this excellent video. So clear, so concise. We were stumped about how to fit an unthreaded pipe to a threaded pipe until we watched this tutorial. Also LOVE that you’re plumbing with the help of your little one. Much respect!
I had 3 different men try to fix the pvc pipes under my kitchen sink and and the pipes kept disconnecting and then I saw your video after the pipes came disconnected AGAIN and I followed your GREAT directions and it has held for 2 weeks now and feels so much more secure than when the others tried and failed (they kept insisting pipes were too short)! Hurray!!! Fantastic video!! Thank you SOOOO much!!
Thank you! I was about to hire a handyman bc my stepdad has "fixed" every sink in their house and they all leak now. I watched this video and have fixed them! It was a washer issue. I think he was placing them in the nut and sliding them onto the smooth end. I placed them directly on the smooth end and slid them up higher instead and so far, no leaks.
Thank you for being easy and thorough When I come on line to get help , I hate when someone thinks they are doing this for plumbers and not the home owners Your the best ❤️
You are amazing. I worked a 13 hour shift, spent around 7 hours trying to fix my sink pipes after flushing rice in my sink and not knowing how to re-attatch the pipes and you saved me in 3 minutes. i could not attach the non threaded pipes but fixed in about 3 minutes from your video. Thank you so much and Happy Mothers day. I'm a guy that doesn't read instructions but did this time as you were the instructions. Thank you, my wife and kids will be happy and relieved in the morning lol.
Omg you just saved me from my anxiety! I was freaking out after my pipe started leaking and had a small flood. This is the first video I watch and don’t even have to look any further. Thank you so much 🤗
Thank you so much for this video! My sink plumbing suddenly came apart while the husband was out of town! And I, with zero plumbing experience, was able to put it back together with your video!! I kind of want to tackle some more projects now. 😉
Thank you! My dad’s a retired plumber, so he’s taught me some stuff over the years and has given me many tools. This video and his text guidance helped me to remove a garbage disposal and replace with pipes. I only had a single sink to replumb, but your tips were helpful and gave me the confidence to tackle this task and save my senior mom hundreds of bucks 😉
Thanks for taking the time to make this you do make things sound very simple. It really isn't hard and watching your hands grab the pieces makes us want to do the same.
Thank you for making this video - it pin pointed the mistakes I was making with my own installation, and took time to really explain exactly how to do this - the other videos I found were very vague and seemed to assume the watcher was already familiar w everything. And I love finding how-to household videos done by a woman!!!
Oh My Goodness, I am subscribing to you!!! I’m a single person living on a budget. So I need to learn how to do things around the house myself. I have been watching tons of videos and none has even come close to helping me until I came across your video. You get right down and show how to do the project, no mumble, jumble. I now feel confident on how to do it. THANK YOU!!
Thank you! I watched this video last night, bought pieces this morning, 30 minutes after starting I was free of leaks! The metal ring had worn out so bad (attaches to the sink) that the pipe feel out of it, all my fish water fell over everything, soaking my pants and the floor. I’m so glad I can finally get my dishes done today!
Thank you for this video! I was struggling to find a plumber to help me reconnect the pipes (one had come apart). The pipe didn't look broken, but had no idea how to connect a smooth to a threaded. Your video showed me exactly what I needed to do! Not only did it save me the headache (and $$$$$) of finding a plumber during a very busy time, but I got it done in 30 seconds! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! I couldn't get the plastic nut to screw onto the bottom of the sink...then I heard you say Home Depot recommends you use a metal nut there! I thought something was wrong with my sink! Thank you!
Thank You! Bless you for teaching this. Woman power! 😊😃 A widow here learning to do all this. I could not have done it without you. Other videos didn't help. Thanks so much! I got it done. At least the parts I have. Now I need to figure how to hook up to smaller pipe, or just longer, or hose to take it outside.
THANK YOU! This video was perfect. After a frustrating time of trying to fix my sink I turned to UA-cam. Yours was the first video I looked at. It all "came together" after watching your video. What a sanity saver. Thank you again.
Thank you!!! saved me . I was going mental with same problem of the gasket. now i can finally was my dishes. so helpful. i hope one day I can make a video of something useful that could help folks…. to pay it forward.
We had the sink all blocked with fat. Disconnected the P trap and couldn't work out how to get the pipe to connect back together again. The secret was the black rubber seal - that you clearly explain how to use and connect. Priceless - Thank-you so much !
Thank you!! I drained my sink and heard water gushing. First thought, “Wow! That seemed really loud!?” Second thought, “Don’t look under the sink!” 😂 I could see where the pipe came apart, and decided to clean them out, before putting them back together. But I couldn’t figure out the washers! I checked out a couple of videos that were of no help, and then found yours. Thank you!! You rock!
Very well explained, especially about washer direction, and you're a girl, I'm really impressed, and here's my long story, For starters I'm 65 I rebuild automatic transmissions for a living {40 plus yrs} so I'm no stranger to seals and leaks. But as I like to say I'm a mechanic not a plumber,electrician.etc. I am reasonably handy, but I'm no Mr fixit. So anyway, two days ago my wife notices that under the kitchen sink its slightly wet,So yesterday we decide by virtue of years lets replace from the double sink drains down to the pipe in the floor, I disconnect from the sink drains to the floor pipe in one piece,{find the source of my leak} as I say in work the smoking gun.And off to the plumbing supply house {I live in the city,so for plumbing I use a plumbing supply house not home depot, the place Ive been using for 20 plus years with great technical knowledge and good parts closed down about 2 years ago, the owner retired. So this other place was always my backup. So anyway I go into the place yesterday with the entire piece all together so i can have them match it up;{just like in work, lets lay it out and match it up piece by piece the way it goes} Up to the counter,4different guys the one says can I help you, a 30 something, I lay my whole shebang on the counter in one piece and say I need this, His question is what size pipe is that{ut oh} a guy behind him a little older says 1 1/2, OK he knows what hes doing,The first guy goes into the back to get my stuff, I ask guy#2 can you make sure everything is right, stuff comes out, Is everything here, yeah your good, Home I start laying everything out on a table outside, starting at the sink drain I notice right away the piece I have will not mate with the sink drain, trip #2 walking back in guy#2 says whats wrong I know you have everything you need{with a attitude} I show him new piece will not mate here, and I hold up the old piece, like this piece, Oh yeah sorry ,I forgot about that piece, you'll also need the 2 extra nuts and straight washers{like the video}Ok can we lay this out now and make sure ? no need to you're good, get home lay everything out cut the one universal piece I just got and for the sink drain side everything is fine, except now for the other end I need 2 additional nuts and smooth gaskets, trip #3 right thru the door, now what wrong I know you got everything I"m sure ,what about connecting the other end 2 nuts and smooth washers, oops sorry,So this time I get 2 extras of nuts and 2 straight and 2 smooth washers, Back home everything fits, goes right together, snug everything down by 2 PM, no leaks first try Last night at 8PM my wife notices a little water, I must have given those nuts almost close to another 1/4 turn, I had those things dam tight,I'm assuming the gaskets compressing, This morning I wanted to go online and confirm I had my washers in the correct direction,I was ready for a grueling search and don't you know this was first video I saw! Hat's off to this young lady for a clear and precise video,It answered my questions on washer direction,I originally had mine in the right way.But now I definitely know they are right, another day or 2 of leak checking and maybe nut snugging ,then my wife can put all her stuff back. Once again thank you sweetie,in 2021 it took a girl to give me the definite answer's i couldn't get from 2 or 3 guys that work at a plumbing supply house '
This was awesome and answered all my questions without any useless blather. I was able to replace a leaking cracked and corroded slip nut and all the tailpiece nuts and washers without damaging the rest of my really old (all metal) sink plumbing from this video. Everything has remained dry as a bone for the last few days so it looks like I did it right! I used a small wire brush to clean the grungy threads and was careful not to overtighten the nuts (just 1/4 turn after finger tight). Thank you!
I absolutely, 100 percent, cannot thank you enough for this video. Hubby and I got the new kitchen sink faucet in and then I just sat there, trying to remember how the stupid fittings all went back together. Hubby found your video and I got the pipes back together in no time. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Omg! I was swearing and so aggravated, lost on the same exact things as you! Thank you so much!!!!! Kitchen sink poly washer replaced and sink no longer leaks!!!!!!!
hey thanks for making this video! I started out trying to unblock my kitchen sink , only to find two leaks underneath... headed for utube for help. after an hour of watching vids I finally found yours now I have fixed two leaks and unblocked the whole thing. PLUS now I know why and how it all works and could fix or amend it in a heartbeat. Thank you so much ❤
Thank you very much ! I got stuck fitting the non threaded bit with a threaded one. I couldn’t understand how on earth it would not fit back as easily as it was undone.... after 1/2 hour of pushing / turning and overheating my brain I decided to take a break and have a cup of coffee with some biscuits whilst trying to find the solution online. You saved my weekend 🤓😘😘😘
Mine has been leaking off/on for years. I was intrigued by all the parts that you had laid out that were calling to me. Now at least I have a foundation to the right way. Thank you!
Wow in the first 5 min of video i was able to finally fix the pipes under my sink properly! I never knew what the heck to do with the washers😂 i tried just glueing it with pvc glue which worked but not great. Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly!!
Thank you so much for this video. My kitchen sinks are clogged up but I was afraid to take the pipes apart in case I couldn’t put them back together by myself. Thanks to your video I now have the confidence to make an attempt since we have the same kind of setup. I like your explanation, very thorough yet simple to comprehend.
Fantastic video! I was also having trouble connecting the threaded and non threaded pieces. You explained everything in such detail. This helped me so much. Thanks!
Thanks guys! I found out this morning I have a leak under my sink. i was going to call a plumber my wife knows or my home insurance company. I thought it was a bigger project than I could handle. i watched your video instead and I am doing it myself. I'm also replacing the old piping to new. I'll let you know how it goes when I'm done. Thanks again.
I really like this video, a lot of the other videos were not covering this aspect. I finally found out that the small pvc segment needs that thing you called 'Straight washer'. I now have my shopping list narrowed down to a few washers and a slightly longer PVC segment than I bought. One of my other projects is to install a dishwasher drain loop, because mine can brings water back to the dishwasher pump. You might want to raise your dishwasher loop higher between the gap of the sink tubs. So go through the sink, next to the faucet knobs. I just want my loop suspending from a high area on the cabinet wall. Great video, thank you again.
I’ve watched so many of these videos only to be more and more frustrated until I got to the clarity of this one. Thank goodness someone knows how to explain something like they are teaching it to someone.
Thank you!! You saved me! I don't usually ever write comments but I GREATLY appreciate your video and clear explanation! And the little one's cute voice in the backdrop was an added bonus. : )
This was super helpful; thank you! I just bought a new, much deeper sink and will likely have to replace the pipes. This definitely gave me more confidence and understanding of what's going on down there!
Great video. I was searching for something like this and learned all kinds of stuff about connecting PVC pipes and treaded pipes but had trouble getting a little more info on sink piping repair. I almost purchased some PVC pipe sealant but finally realized that's not needed when using the gaskets and screwing on the tighteners. Those threads used with the tighteners are not used for water tightness, except to hold the gasket in place and tightening the pipe against the gasket. Notes: I learned from other videos pertinent to your video: 1) When tightening those tighteners with gaskets, use hand tightening. If you use a wrench after tightening by hand, only turn 1 quarter (1/4 turn). Not sure why but I guess too tight can strip the threads and/or would be too difficult to unscrew with future repairs and/or may damage the gasket. 2) They make a special wrench called a plumber's wrench for tightening these types of PVC tighteners. Cost about $10 at Walmart. I guess any wrench will do. It can sometimes be difficult to get the plumber's wrench or actually any wrench to work in tight areas say behind the garbage disposal so any wrench that fits will get the job done. 3) Your dishwasher connection in the video is different than mine. Mine connects into the base of the garbage disposal, so no need to cut pipe and make room to insert that piece you inserted for the dishwasher. The garbage disposal was new and came with plastic piece sticking out to which you connect the hose with a metal clamp similar to the metal clamp you showed in your video. So if replacing a garbage disposal, I would make sure to buy one with the feature of connecting to a dishwasher. This also reduces the number of connection joints/pipes needed and 2 less potential areas for a future leak. One other note to maybe clear up some confusion I encountered on PVC pipes in general: *** this note only applies to PVC pipes in general and not normally needed for the piping under a sink. Many other videos about PVC joints said to use PVC sealant on threads, but this was for a different type of joint than those that use gaskets. There are other joints that have a threaded male pipe and threaded female pipe, and this joint will be used to seal. With this type of joint, you should hand tighten first and then use a wrench and turn an additional 1 or 2 times around but no more than 2. (this is not for joints using gaskets). You don't want to tighten too much because PVC is not strong enough like metal, and the female pipe may crack from the pressure exerted by the male pipe. Apparently, this is very common cause of leaks for these these types of sealing joints.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!! I too was really confused about getting the different pieces to fit together - this solved it for me! The washer and screw ring HAVE to go on in the order you showed.
@Easy As Pie How to Videos, you are my hero! Today is Oct 17, 2021, and with your video, I fixed a small leak under my sink. Thank you so much for explaining and showing how to use those darn washers to clearly. No more leak! Well done. I want to be your new best friend. 😃New subbie here.
We just successfully installed a new kitchen sink, thanks to this excellent video. So clear, so concise. We were stumped about how to fit an unthreaded pipe to a threaded pipe until we watched this tutorial. Also LOVE that you’re plumbing with the help of your little one. Much respect!
I'm sitting outside Home Depot watching this video. 😊

Been there my friend lol
Lmbo yess sounds so much like me!😆

Outside of lowes
This video is 4 years old and it's now helping me. Thank you!

This video saved my a$$. None of the other kitchen plumbing videos explain the under-the-sink connections nearly as well as this. Many, many thanks.
God, I love the internet and these videos. I just fixed our sink myself. I didn't even need the PVC glue we bought. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't know who you are, but I really appreciate you.
So cute that your little helper is commenting in the background.

Outstanding analysis and presentation by a well-organized lady with excellent teaching skills...helpful for anyone who views this video. 5 Stars.
Baby whispering in the background just touched my heart!. I only came to hear the breakdown. Didn't ecpect that!
Very nicely done. I too like that you pointed out the differences in the washers. It's the little things that can mess stuff up.

You are not a plumber but you explain it better than most plumbers I know... Great job!!
Awww thank you!
Doesn't she?! Omg, I couldn't figure out what to type into Google, but she had the exact info I and others really needed ❤❤❤❤
Best video about sink, finally someone explained the washers.
So glad the video helped! Woohoo!
Omg you just saved me from my anxiety! I was freaking out after my pipe started leaking and had a small flood. This is the first video I watch and don’t even have to look any further. Thank you so much 🤗

lady you saved my ass this evening, many thanks
I can't determine the legitimacy of this procedure without more of the toddler's perspective. How adorable.
You have saved me from hiring a plumber- thanks for your straightforward video - you’re a true blessing!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to make this you do make things sound very simple. It really isn't hard and watching your hands grab the pieces makes us want to do the same.

This seems pretty simple because of your great explanation. I’m tackling this tomorrow afternoon. Thank you!
Great video presentation minus all the blathering. Easy as pie! Thank you!

Wow!!! I am a 50 year old woman and was inspired by your video-to do it myself! And I did it. No plumber needed. I am LMAO. Thank you so much.
Very helpful. No other video I've watched so far explained the washers. BIG 👍👍👍!!!
My FAVORITE part is at the 5:20 mark where a child chimes in and says, "but it has to". Absolutely adorable.
Thank you. Just purchased a mobile home and the kitchen sink leaked, you saved me a bundle!
Fantastic video! I was also having trouble connecting the threaded and non threaded pieces. You explained everything in such detail. This helped me so much. Thanks!
Wonderful explanation, especially with the washers! Thank you!

Thanks for the tut🤜🏾🤛🏼My son and I were able to repair our kitchen sink after watching your video🥳✌🏾🎯
Thank you kind stranger and UA-cam University. Just used this info and it works fine.

Brilliant! Thanks for clear instructions and step by step guide. Just what I needed
I’ve watched so many of these videos only to be more and more frustrated until I got to the clarity of this one. Thank goodness someone knows how to explain something like they are teaching it to someone.
Thank you for showing how to attach the two. I struggled for an hour before looking this video up. Now i fixed my kitchen sink. Thank you

This was super helpful; thank you! I just bought a new, much deeper sink and will likely have to replace the pipes. This definitely gave me more confidence and understanding of what's going on down there!
I'm so glad it helped!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video.
Exactly the concern I have. How to connect pieces together. Thanks for your video!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. The language you used and the explanation was great.
You're very welcome!
Noticed your "splashy" video transition at 2:52. Appropriate for a plumbing video. Nice.
Thank you very much. You give me a complete, easy and wonderful explanation. You are a good helper. Thanks.
Notes: I learned from other videos pertinent to your video:
1) When tightening those tighteners with gaskets, use hand tightening.
One other note to maybe clear up some confusion I encountered on PVC pipes in general:
*** this note only applies to PVC pipes in general and not normally needed for the piping under a sink.
Thanks so much, I was so suffering without yoir video. It worked all well.
Thank you! Kitchen sink is back in action 👍👍
A lot of great tips, especially with the gaskets.

We just successfully installed a new kitchen sink, thanks to this excellent video. So clear, so concise. We were stumped about how to fit an unthreaded pipe to a threaded pipe until we watched this tutorial. Also LOVE that you’re plumbing with the help of your little one. Much respect!
Thanks! Very informative and well-shot.
