"Just do what somebody else is doing, and try to do it better than them"
This is so true, and not only for speedruns. This applies to any activity, and I got into my job with this mentality.

MHR Sunbreak is my first MH game. At the start, I follow the ''meta'' build, which is really the worst start for me. I always get cart because there is almost no defense. After watching your videos, I started using equipment that gave me quality of life. Now I really enjoy this game. Thanks

You really have to understand the monsters you're fighting to go no defense. Especially the first couple of times you fight a monster defense helps a ton because you're learning. The meta guides are for sweaty try hards.

What you described about just getting whatever armor looks good to you is my exact experience with the very first Monster Hunter. My character wore:
    Khezu Helm
    Monoblos Mail
    Gravios Vambraces
    Rathalos Waist
    Rathalos Greaves
    No Skills.
    Loved that game.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this one 13:17
I don't care if you are a casual if you are only there to watch me take the monster by myself then go watch a stream
Obviously it's fine if you do it for like a minute or two to learn the monster patterns or look for openings, also for healing, sharpening, etc...
But if you are only there to watch sorry but you are getting kicked out of my quest and that's coming from someone that plays with newbies regularly
A far better advice is that if fighting a monster is really difficult to you but you wanna get it done anyway just play support man it's fine there's other ways you can contribute other than bonking at the monster, get a bunch of traps, bomb barrels and maybe a hunting horn, that way even if you aren't "fighting" the monster you are helping (prowler mode in MH Generations was basically this so it's a legit way to play) but PLEASE don't be just an spectator specially on master rank.

I just wanna say thank you so much for this video! I started playing monster hunter about two years ago with no prior knowledge to the franchise and I was looking up resources at the time to help me get better at the game and all the videos I saw at the time plus certain types of fans made me feel so overwhelmed and lacking that it made me feel like I needed to put a million plus hours into it to truly enjoy the game and that I had to enjoy the game a certain way. while I did improve it kinda sucked all the fun out of it and this video gave me so much reassurance and validation that not everything has to be perfect and it’s okay to just play it casually and it re-inspired me to get back into it! So thank you!!!

13:17 I’m surprised you didn’t mention the other good thing about running in circles on your palamute, and that’s healing. If you don’t know the monster pattern yet, odds are you’re going to be low on health when the monster is aggressive. Rather than heal when you think you have an opening, call your palamute first then drink your potion. drinking a potion on the ground reduces your mobility, but drinking a potion on your palamute allows you to heal while moving around with the speed of a sprinting dog, which can put you out of range of the monster’s attack

I tend to see join request more similar to SOS flare, so I wouldn't recommend joining on one if you don't think you can contribute much, but I would absolutely recommend using it if you're struggling on a hunt or just want to run it with other people.

I like to do 2 hunts most of the time then break or switch games for a bit. Not a speed runner so I’m used to longer hunts which in itself makes each hunt feel more substantial and epic and if I’m lucky I’m playing well and not getting slapped around by BS lol. I find grindy games can really burn you out if you aren’t careful with how you manage your time.

It's virtually impossible to tell if someone in your session is "bad at the game" unless you're actively watching them (and thus not participating in the game). And every so often, even the top 1% of skilled players faint twice, thrice in a quest: over the _(cough) tens of thousands of hours (cough)_ in the series, I think I've genuinely met like *2* people that I would say were not adequately prepared for their match-up, and they were in Tri or 3 Ultimate. I'm not even kidding-a *lot* of people would bring Fire weapons against Monsters with Fire immunity, but they'd stay at high health the whole quest and deal some very good part damage-no complaints whatsoever. It's kind of hard to get very far in the game and be genuinely bad at it, and the worse you are, the more consciously you're mitigating that for your team, because statistically, you're a pro-social person and want everyone to have fun and succeed: Monster Hunter is designed around _you._ 👍

I'm not trying to promote toxic use of this tool, but hunterpie lets you see a dps chart of people in the game. If you both have a similar tier of weapons you can gather whether they are better or worse than you are. So it isn't virtually impossible and you don't even have to not play the game to tell

I like the two tips to have casual quit after fighting Narwa or do solo speedrunning. Those two options for them are perfect for me too.

I reached my casual peak in Monster Hunter by putting together a hilariously safe hunting horn build in which I do no damage, take no damage, and can tremor res/flinch free my way through pulling off heals and buffs to keep my team alive and continuing the hunt.
Then one day I answered an SOS and some asshole thought I was hacking because of it lol

I have like around 500 hours in each monster hunter game and it’s funny to say that’s pretty damn casually comparatively to others.

Generally agree on most of every point, but Narwa is NOT the final boss. If someone told me they stopped at Narwa, I would tell them they hadn't beaten Rise. Allmother is the culmination of everything in MHR, and disregarding it is a grave disservice to Rise as a whole. Thematically it's one of the best fights in the series (best monster theme don't @ me). Yeah it's a shame that Rise released unfinished, and yeah grinding to MR 50 is a bit of an ask, but given how quick it is in Rise, it's nowhere near the ask of something like MHW's MR 100 for it's finale (but Fatalis is the real finale of World and that can be accessed so much earlier thankfully)
