  • After a late start I headed up to the Collage valley, and after a short walk I pitched on an old hill fort,
It was a misty old camp with limited views later on.
I forgot to mention condensation in the video,
In the morning I had a very fine bit of wetness around the foot box and up too half way in the bivy.
Not as ventilated as the hooped bivy.
But I have yet to do a really damp camp in the hooped one.

Lovely views on that panorama Adrian, really like the subtle colours. Smashing pitch you had, I think I can guess which Hill fort- but not too sure! Graham 👍👍

I believe tree cover really is the best for less condensation . But You are the best bivvy camper I've learned from on UA-cam inspiring me to bivvy anywhere and enjoy amazing views. P.S - was the footbox dry in the morning?

Hi and thanks for watching, I forgot to mention the damp and have put it in the description,
Slightly damp sleeping bag from foot box up to half way, I have this bivy cinched in so not so much air flow,
Will try the hooped one in the damp soon enough

Great set up and I keep learning every time I watch your vids. I'm due a tarp night out. Might do a midweeker. That fog got burnt off around 8am. I ran the dog up near Easter Tor from Wooler. Cheers.

I remember having to camp with a tarp only no bivi bag bag in the 80’s, manageable but much better with an army bivi bag

It’s so useful seeing your gear and tarp set up. Would be interested to know if the army bivi had wet condensation inside as I know your Dutch hooped bivi is your favourite for dryness.

A midge net for the head - I'd best have a look at that one! I've just ordered a bivy bag off Amazon and didn't even consider the midges, good job I watch these films.

You managed to do it again for us.....just returned from a short job away and you have such a great video waiting for us. You certainly find some good spots and we agree about bivi camping....it is certainly better in the majority of locations, not just for the views, but also the ease of pitching and the versatility of a flat tarp. Thank you for sharing this video, stay well, stay safe and have good holidays. Helen and Katarin Juska-Law and Terri with Robyn.

Look forward to a Saturday visit to the Cheviots with you from here in Norfolk. The College valley must look quite different after storm Arwen took the trees. I was up on the tors and hare law last year and the forestry people were felling where I descended.
I have some pictures I took in May a few years back and the gorse in bloom along the valley floor was so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing your trip Adrian.

Hi and thanks for watching, asymmetrical Holden pitch, good because you can quickly modify it by bringing the foot lifter to the front and make a normal two pole shelter, sure there are lots of excellent examples online, I had it quite high so to let the breeze through.

Adrian, what’s your view on the British Army Basha coming in at 2lb 5oz, and 8’3” x 6’11”. Looks a good size, good quality, and good price.? I am thinking of getting one. Interested to know if you ever tried one.? Currently using an army poncho much smaller at a heavier 2lb 18oz, and smaller at 6’9” x 5’.

Hi and thanks for watching, sorry I have no experience of it, I have a dd tarp of 3x3 and don’t really use that as it’s much heavier than the super light ones at 790gr, although I do think it gives a better pitch being thicker, so can imagine the army ones would be same.sorry I can’t help.
