Thanks for including Wilson here. I grew up playing the Staff blades and they are phenomenal clubs but always overlooked. Now that I’m old, I just pulled the trigger on the i525 and it performed the best for me too.
I tried everything in the Player's Distance category. My final 3 were the Mizuno Pro 225, Cobra Forged Tec (2021 version better for me than than 2022), and the Wilson D9 Forged. Ordered the D9 Forged because they felt as soft or softer than the Mizuno, tightest dispersion, easiest to hit, and as long as the Cobra or Mizuno. And cheaper too! Ordered with Recoil 460 ESX R shaft. I'm 72 and played previously with T-M RAC LT irons, but needed more help. The Ping i525 just didn't work at all for me, and the Titleist T200 wasn't a fit either. The key - get fit - to see what club works the best for you!
I must have lucked out because I have come across two irons that are awesome , and that I have never been able to remove from my bags. First is Mizuno MP-55, forgiving long and workable, and they feel so soft. Second is the, believe it or not, Nike VRs Forged II. Long forgiving and easy to hit. The feel is ok, and workability ok, but these are long. I can probably find an up-to-date club that does the same, but why?
I liked the review. He clearly said at the end the numbers were for his swing. the ping and the wilson were my finalists and I went with the D9. If anything, I'm hitting them a bit lower then my old set so height has alot to do with the swinger. The i525 was a great iron. I was hitting that longer then the Ping425 consistantly which I found as a surprise. In the end, it was about the butter feel of the D9 and a lower price tag
Came down to Mizuno 225s and the i525s for me this past Spring, the i525s were a touch more forgiving and they were more consistently both long and straight. Got the Green dot (2* upright), stiff flex AWT 2.0 shaft, plus 1/2”. Took a couple months to get used to but I am loving these irons!
Glad to have found your videos. I have a very comparable swing speed to yours so your equipment reviews are much more relevant compared to you tubers smashing a 7 iron 200yards.
I have the 525 coming out of the G irons. I notice an approximate 10 yard difference in distance. Starting with golf from a 23hc 2 years ago to a 15 currently, I thought it was time to move into this type of iron to move to. I am still getting used to them but I think they will ultimately help me improve as I am forced to strike the ball better.
I’ve been looking for a move from MP20 blades so this review has been great. I’ve tested the i525 up against P770 and Mizuno 223. i525 gave me the best numbers and actually the tightest dispersion. Tested the glide wedges to work those into the set and need to check gapping at the bottom end but seems the lofts move to a more standard arrangement.
Tim, thank you so much for your great reviews. Could you please do a review on the LTDx irons and the 921 HM irons. Thanks again. Posting from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada home of the late great Moe Norman, the greatest ball striker in the world as seen by my own eyes!
With 112 ball speed on 7 iron, you should be getting more yardage than what you're seeing here. I hit the T200's and have about the same ball speed and I was getting a carry distance 10+ yards further. 159-162 was typical carry on a well struck ball. You don't show peak height or land angle data - I don't remember my launch numbers, but peak height for me was in the 75' range with landing angle in the mid to high 40's.
@@TimElliottGolf Sounds like you need to work on your delivery. If you're delivering too much loft with the T200, I can't imagine what is happening with a more "standard" lofted iron 🤣
interesting results, i'm a slower ss player about 80mph with my 7 iron. you seem to be opposite to me. i wanted to test the d9 forged because they look nice. i tested the t200 7iron and that was it now all i want is a forged iron set. the t200 was very similar in flight to my 2009 tour burner irons i've had since erm 2009 lol. d9 forged maybe to low a launch for me off the self so i'm going to get fitted. couple of guys i play with hit iron really high like you. i'm guessing if you really go at them, you can stick another 20 yards on if needed lol. but who needs to if you have the right gapping and a lovely smooth consistent swing like you.
@@TimElliottGolf t200 flight was pretty much same as my old 7iron, never noticed a difference with carry. with 2 degrees stronger loft compared to 2.5 degree with the d9 forged. i dont use anything above a 7iron. 6i i might use to hit low under trees etc. thats about it. but i do hit my irons in the middle regular. golf is golf though. i could hit a d9 further than a d9 forged. but its how middling it makes you feel.
Great video. I'm toying between D9 Forged and T200s but possibly even dropping down to T300. High handicap (29) but improving and would rather a set I can grow into in a year or 2 than a set I need to sell in a year or 2 and pay top dollar again for new fitted clubs. Thoughts?
@@TimElliottGolf thanks for the reply! Make sense, difficult to gauge how quickly I can improve but will chat to my local pro I take lessons with. Just a shame he doesn't stock Wilson!
I've been trying to replace my S55, which can't even get to 150 yards consistently. With the i525 I can reach 175 yards with same swing, but the feel is still not right and I fitted it with 105 Nippon stiff shafts which gives it much better feel than the stock ones.
A pro hitting it 150 with a players distance 7 iron? Something doesn't sound right. Other reviews I have seen of these irons the 7 has been closer to 200. I hit it further than 150 with a 7 and I'm bang average!
@@TimElliottGolf thanks Tim. Not a criticism, more an observation. Your spin did seem very high considering that they are strong lofted irons. Not everyone hits it the same distance granted but pros tend to hit it further than amateurs.
@@TimElliottGolf absolutely. I suppose having the combination of enough spin coupled with plenty of distance is the sweet spot. Much like the touring pros have. Amateurs tend to get caught up with distance, hence the proliferation of strong lofted irons. 6500 with a strong lofted 7 iron does seem extremely high to me. Perhaps a less spinny ball might help? Enough spin (say 6000) but the reduction might give you 10 extra yards. Just a thought.
If your clubhead speed is 119 (I'm assuming that's with driver) then you should probably be spending money on lessons rather than clubs. You are way underachieving with a 23 handicap and that kind of club speed. You don't need a players distance iron when you have that kind of speed....I think even the T150 is probably going to go too far with that kind of speed....although you might like the forgiveness that it would offer over the T100.
Value for money ... d9 forged all day . The competition is literally twice as much in terms of cost. I changed from d9 to d9 forged and I am as happy as a pig in sh#t 😂

Big factor for me is loft delivered at impact. Not optimum for distance. 👍🏻

I would get the D9 Forged and weak loft them 2-2.5 deg. I tested them and they looks awesome. A Small blade and not so thick top line. Me like.

Trying the Ping i525 and i530 tomorrow.
Hope you find it useful! What did you go for? 👍🏻
You were hitting a blue dot in the ping. You might want to try a green dot and try the other 2 clubs at 2 degrees upright too.
D9 is by far the best value 😁
There is a Ping label on your shirt, There are several Ping posters on the walls. Is this a fair test?
What do the numbers say?
I have a Mizuno pro 225 and they are good for me

and missing the green 80% of the time.
It dosen't matter how its looks if your hitting it all over the shop.

Thanks Tiger!
