      Hi Juna, I new this trick a long time ago, but... i did not wanted to make it public because I think, canva doesn't (didn't) know about this, so they are going to flat the pdfs and then you wouldn't be able to do this any more.
      So now that you got the views you wanted, would be good to delete the video for the good of future designs for everyone.

    When I first tried this, Affinity Designer wouldn't let me see the layers. I finally found that if I selected the images & then clicked on "Edit Document" near the top right, the layers showed up and I was able to proceed as Juna demonstrates in the video. Thanks, Juna!

    Another tip came from your video about the anime T-shirt design you did in Canva. Like several others, I was disappointed I couldn't use a graphic from the Elements to pop into one of the frames. Took me a few days for it to occur to me that I could download the desired graphic as a PNG, then reupload it and then it could be inserted into a frame. So, nice simple trick in case no one else mentioned that.
    Loving your videos. Great info, and you have such a nice teaching style. My husband, who's a college English professor, came in on one and said, "he's a really good teacher, isn't he?". I totally agree! God Bless and Happy New Year 🙂

    Another tip I would propose, go to elements and search for frame. You will get hundreds of frames some are free. Select the frame you like, get a photo or background you like. I usually use American flag or leopard. Drag the photo to the frame, the frame will take the photo as a background. You can adjust the positions also.

    Hi Juna.... I stumbled on this video and was all excited. But it's not working for me.
    I uploaded a png file instead of using the elements in Canva (I have Pro by the way) Downloaded it as a Pdf for Printing. Opened it up in AD 2 and there was no way I could separate it. I tried placing the document in instead of importing it....still nothing. Sigh..... Did I do this wrong or did Canva somehow stop everything? Can you check please and see? Thanks Brenda

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  Рік тому

      Yes... so it only works on vector files in Canva... what probably happened was you tried to open a raster file (photo)... the way you can tell if that the artwork in Canva is a vector is that it should allow you to change colors... if it doesn't let you change colors than it's a photo and you will not be able to separate it in AD 2

    How would you go about importing your new design as an editable svg back to canva? I have tried all the options I could think of, I've removed stuff from the file with VsCode and nothing works. When I re-upload it to canva I can only use "edit image" and I do not have the option to change the colour. The only way I could do it was to export it as png, import it on inkscape, trace bitmap and save it as svg from there. This is far from ideal. I've searched on google but couldn't find a solution. If you have an idea on how to do that, it'd be awesome!

    • @DetourShirts

      @@DetourShirts by editable I mean being able to change the colours. It definitely is possible because I've done it many times with inkscape. • @DetourShirts

    • @jakemorden8544
      @jakemorden8544 3 роки тому +1

      But only if you planning to use it with another software like affinity designer, Canva alone not enough for tshirt designing yet, you can't change vectors color, or separate elements, outlines, cutting...and som many features are missing. I've used it wasn't enough for me. That's my thoughts about it

    • @GrantGreetings
      @GrantGreetings 3 роки тому

      Yes, I did see where Canva Pro has the ability to make a png with a transparent background which is very useful to me as a card designer. I think that feature would be useful in Canva for both cards and shirts. I know I can take it to Affinity and do it but it would save a little time. Depending on what you downloaded there may not be an ungroup

    Can we use Canva elements for free, print on as many POD items as we wish? No restrictions?

      I was thinking the same thing…

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому +1

      The main restriction is that they can not be used by themselves.... they need to be combined with text or other graphics.... you also can't sell the graphics as a pack or individually as graphics.... You can read all about their restrictions on their website....www.canva.com/help/article/licenses-copyright-commercial-use

    Maybe I missed a step, this doesn't work for me. Everything I drag from canva to affinity is a single layer image. Not sure how to open doc as layers like you show so I can delete background. Yes I am downloading pdf print. New to affinity.

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому

      Are you saving as a PDF? It sounds like you saved as a PNG.... the PDF should have the layers

    • @rivkahr336
      @rivkahr336 2 роки тому

      I am having the same problem. I definitely downloaded it as a pdf for print.The title in the layer says bridge.pdf (embedded do...).

    This is brilliant. But what's weird is even though I set file size in Canva to 4500 x 5400, it downloads at 3374 x 4050.

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому

      That is interesting... I didn't really check... I just assumed it was 4500x5400

    • @blackkitt98
      @blackkitt98 3 роки тому

      @@DetourShirts Yes, it should have been the right size. Maybe it's just me. I tested by making a new design in Canva in Merch dimensions. I downloaded it first as a png and that was 4500 x 5400, and then as PDF Print and again the pdf came out 3374 x 4050. I'm curious to know if that happened to you too. And it's not like I have a crap computer - I just got a new MacBook Pro Max. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    How to do this in illustrator?

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  3 роки тому +1

      I don't have Illustrator at the moment but my guess is that you would open the pdf in Illustrator and it would do the same thing.
