I recently stumbled over your channel. What can I say! Just WOW. Your educational skills are second to none! Your step by step style is amazingly helpful. I am big fan from step by step tutorials / guides as it will help to viewer to exactly understand what you are doing and no guessing is required (what I see in many other tutorials). I just purchased all your pack to support your work (I am not sure if I ever will use them, as my domain of expertise is totally different - I teach people to photograph the Northern Lights), but Artwork must be supported, especially now with all this AI coming along. Thank you for you amazing work and I am looking forward listening in to more tutorials and seeing new ones. Thank you again. Cheers, Hendrik
Hello Hendrick, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a wonderful comment, I'm happy to hear you like my teaching style. Also I really appreciate the support you've shown by purchasing from my website. You teach people to shoot the northorn lights, That's amazing! Yes I'm actually looking at how ai and mid journey works now, its incredible what it can do, will definitely deter some people from designing everything themselves. On the positive side designers etc can use it to their advantage for ideas

@@ArtistWright I think they would go down a treat. But you're allowed a little time to recuperate after the Designer biggie. Do some laurel-resting for a wee five mins 😘
This is very clear apart from you not explaining the PC options. For example you say to use CTRL+ CMD, but I thought CTRL was the PC equivalent of CMD (command)? Also what is the OPTION key?
Thanks for the feedback, the option key is on a Mac keyboard. As I don't have a windows pc I can only rely on what the affinity help section says for that. Use the help tab in Affinity on your windows it's very useful
I'm using Designer 2.3.1 and seem to be unable to make a single cut through te sphere without it making a separate return trip to a point near the origin. I believe I've tried every combination of settings available, but can't avoid the "return trip". Is this a bug in this version? I KNEW IT: Immediately after writing you about the above-described problem, it virtually solved itself.
Merci ! Another great tuto! Unfortunately for me, the PC version seems to have a bug and crashes when I use the scissors on the sunbeams... There is a workaround but it's a shame. To be continued
Hi Philippe! Thanks for that I appreciate it. Ah that's a shame to hear, have you tried updating it? Also check your how much of your ram is being used by other apps, maybe its that.
AUTO CLOSE CHANGE - I'm on Designer 2.5.3. New to Designer. Your videos are an immense help in getting me going. In this video your discussion of Auto Close does not match what I'm seeing in the above version and does not perform as you show in the video. The Auto Close check box in your video to the right of the various options has been replaced by an Auto Close icon just to the right of the straight line icon. Clicking it does launch the Auto Close feature, but you need to get pretty close to the origin to complete the path. In your example you could launch Auto Close by checking the box and release the mouse (track pad in my case) far away from the origin and complete the path. Could it be this is operator error on my part? THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!
@@ArtistWright I'm good, thank you! I appreciate the knowledge and the effort to make these tutorials! It means a lot to me! I wish you all the best, cheers 👍
HI there I'm trying to cut a circle but when I do it wabbles, I want to know if there's a way to cut it perfect circle without going out of place. Thanks
If you are trying to cut a perfect circle out of a shape just use the ellipse tool to draw a circle then place it over your shape, select both and then either use the Boolean operations to subtract or use the shape builder tool
Again a very thorough video. No reflection on you, but these seem like the most unnecessary tools AD has recently added. I’m not sure why they were prioritized when the node tool, booleans, and shape builder all provide the same capabilities. Mysteries, mysteries. Ah well.
Wow, you're a gifted instructor. these tuts are far better far clearer than Affinity's own...if you're not on staff at Serif, you shd be IMHO! lol(SKILLSHARE?)...for the first time, I want to abandon my lingering love affair with illustrator and really dive into designer(still miss trace and blend but oh well). thank you, brilliant
Thank you, I appreciate it. Nope im not on staff or skillshare but have contemplated It, I just want as many people as possible to get a chance to learn Affinity Designer for free. Who knows maybe it will be the next industry standard
The ctrl+alt and left mouse button shortcut to delete segments of a line between two nodes does not work in Affinity Designer 2.1. It took me quite some time to figure out that I had to switch to the node tool, then hold ctrl and then click on the segment to delete it. **edit** I'm wondering if this is just a bug that was introduced with the update. I can temporarily switch to the node tool by holding ctrl but I can't use it to delete a segment. I have to actively switch to the node tool to then hold ctrl to delete a segment with the mouse.
Hello mate, I'm on V 2.1 (Mac) and whilst still on the knife tool I can press control and command then click on any segment and it's working fine for me
@@ArtistWright I figured it out! On a Windows PC, the shortcut is the CTRL + Windows Key (not ALT key), then mouse click. This was driving me nuts!! Lol!
Hi, I followed your conversation and tried the things you did, but now in 2.3.1 it is like following: You pres "K" for the knife tool, make 2 cuts on the line, then you switch over to the node tool by pressing "A", then you simply pres and hold STRG and hover over the cut you want to delete, a small red X will appear beside your cursor, simply click on the part or cut you want to delete - and thats it, its gone. @@GatoL0c0
I noticed that the knife tool as used in timeline 17:44 wil not cut with control key in my affinity 2.5.3 version , the red X will only appear if i make a selection of the broken line with the node tool( A key). It looks to my like a glitch in an update
Hilarious - after 5+ years of begging from the community and 25 years after "legacy" software like Freehand/Illustrator/Corel, AD now has a knife/scissor tool. What an outstanding innovation! Seriously, while AD has some outstanding bells and whistles, it still struggles with the most basic of functions. *Fun to play with? Certainly. Real "productivity" tool? Definitely not.* Addendum: Thanks for taking the time to make this very structured and helpful tutorial!
I cant believe how complicated they have to make this. Corel draw its just pick the cut tool and roll it over the line and it will cut between two lines. If there is no two lines to cut between you just draw it and the cut through it. With simple shapes it works but when you have multiple lines its not working.
Thanks for the input, they are updating affinity quit often these days so definitely give them your thoughts. They actually asked people for them recently as they will make changes based on what we want
dude you forgot to mention you need to be in the NODE TOOL for ctrl+click to work with the scissor tool. if you are in the knife tool you will not be able to remove the cut section as you explained.
when you are in the knife tool and hover over a curve, you need to hold down Command (this temporarily switches you to the node tool). Whilst holding command, hold down Control also. You will now see the red x when hovering over the curve, click once to delete that section of your curve. Look at my video from 17:40 and 20:50 it will show it. If you are only using the node tool - You can hold Control only and click to remove a section from a curve. So basically you dont need to hold command if you are already in the node tool so its a simple Control and click. Hope that makes sense.
@@ArtistWright weird. holding CTRL when on knife tool did not work for me. i get what you are saying but i was so frustrated until i figured i had to be in the node tool and press CTRL. maybe its a v2 thing.
