Flour, castor sugar, butter and salt. Never put powdered sugar in shortbread. That's just wrong. Also, piece the shortbread before baking. It helps the shortbread bake drier to make it have a good snap. Shortbread shouldn't be that soft. Cheers fae Scotland
Thank you so much for your input. This is why I love Scotland, and such nice people like you motivate me to go and learn Gaelic. This advice is so useful for baking such a classic cookie. We don’t need to complicate things, sometimes it is nice to embrace the traditional recipes because they are so good.
Hello there 😊 I'm trying to translate "castor sugar" and google translate result is :" powdered sugar"!!!! What's the difference please? Thank you very much in advance
Thaaaank you for paying attention to detail with a fine sugar. It's just a cookie if you don't. Looks wonderful, but do the holes prior. I'm going to try this recipe.
Martha’s shortbread Mix: 8 oz soft butter 4 oz sugar Add slowly: 8 oz flour 4 oz cornstarch Place inside 12x8 tin tray flatten/score (7x5)/make holes with fork Bake on 300° for 50-60 minutes or until light golden brown Cut immediately using scored lines as guide
Does it make a difference if i cut it before i cook the dough ? This is luxurious they will be divine if i can get it all to come together. I will have to add many minutes of extra jogging so i can endulge. Thank you for the video
everybody makes it different and we all sware our way is the best. i knew somebody who rolled the dough out and used cookie cutters. i use the 2 4 6, sprinkle with sugar before baking, leave it in the pan til its cool.
Made these today! The timing is certainly off. After I cooked them the first twenty minutes, they were not as brown as yours in the video, in fact, they were really pale. The second time in the oven I baked them for a total of 12:30. Also they were absolutely delicious, but just a bit too thin for my personal taste.
Wrong. I tried to do that and the dough was too soft. I tried it as instructed in the video and they turned out perfect. 2nd Baking time was a bit off though. Had to bake it a bit longer to let them cook through.
Making these right now!! 🤣 they just looked so yum! UPDATE: UHM- THESE ARE AMAZING YOU NEEEED TO TRY THESE AS A TREAT!!! (Def don’t make them all the time, got a LOT of butter, I used 2 whole sticks which was perfect and it was a little more than she said to use.)
I’m more worried about the sugar and the refined flour which cause heart disease down the road. Butter in its own is superfood. Full of natural vitamin A, D, E and K2.
No you prick the dough before you bake it, this is done to allow the steam to escape easily so it doesnt rise.. its not just a random design aesthetic they thought would look neat
I roll the dough chill it 30 mins then bake. It breaks to easily when at room temperature. Stops the shortbread cracking. I've never used powered sugar though will need to try. 🏴 Ith làn do bhìdh
You should poke it with a fork before baking because it helps moisture escape and the cookies to bake more evenly. Poking it with a fork afterwards serves no purpose.
That's not a shortbread. That's an American version of shortbread. Shortbread isnt supposed to be soft at all. British biscuits are never soft!! You guys like to ruin everything. Shortbread are tradionally Scottish. They are hard and crumbly.
Relax Nancy. No one "ruined" shortbread cookies. 😂 There are MANY different recipies on the internet. At least people are trying with what they find. Plus, people have the freedom to make their own renditions. Where does it say you have to strictly make a recipe? Nowhere! Calm down.
250g softened butter
90g powdered sugar
1tsp vanilla
300g flour

soo great and yummy🥰🥰💖💖
Definitely trying these
They are undercooked. The holes made with a fork should be done before baking as this helps the heat permeate through.

Undercooked cookies is the right way to make em
@@nativesrilankan7545thats only because this recipe is not classic shortbread, where the holes serve a purpose
@uthsotruvaak4662 this is true
@@anikaghbut they are not cookies they are shortbread biscuits. Cookies are soft. Shortbread biscuits should be hard.

In the oven now
Can we substitute with cake flour?
250g unslated buter
90 grams sugar
1tb spoon vanilla extract
300gram all purpose flour
1/4 bspoon salt
Is it that much better than Walkers?? For so much additional work?
Can you use cookie cutters? And use royal icing?
Thanks for the recipe , it can get expensive buying so many boxes lol
Wouldn’t the baking spray and your parchment paper burn your shortbread?
Thanks

Consider replacing some of the flour with rice flour. Like how brian lagerstrom does

Nice
How much of the batch is a serving?
Missed one word I have to watch the whole video again, and then missed another word…
I thought the fork marks go in before cooking😊
The dough was very sticky. Sure a out the amount of flour?
I need.too have it

Just tried to make shortbread cookies and they tasted like flour... I used less flour than it asked for. What. 😅
Ridiculously fast speed of voice over.
Unsalted butter then add salt lmao

Why do they bend? 🤣
Dock the dough before you bake it.
1/4 salt is just too much all I can taste was salt when I made these
Did you use a teaspoon or a tablespoon?
too thin
