An idea you might want to consider. Given the resource distribution on the map and the damage you take from the noxious ores, you could build a small outpost in or near the caves leading to the hot biome with a battery, a solar panel, and 2 or 3 organic cleansers. You could build a stable with a couple buffalos with carts if you want, but I didn't find it necessary. It was just faster using the MOA and transporting smaller quantities. While you're mining, just drop off the resources in the outpost, and when you're done, take home the regular ores and put the noxious ones in the organic cleansers. Then, just go home and when you need more materials, you can come back and you should have plenty of ores waiting for you. When you run out of noxious ores, just go back into the caves, rinse and repeat. The downside to this is resource density. Where you could transport 50 noxious ores in a single slot, the equivalent regular ores will take up a lot more than a single slot. But you're not dealing with the damage on the way back to base, and you can also mine up a lot more ores in a single run and use the outpost as a storage depot.
edit: You can also get noxious exotics. You can get like 100 exotics per node once fully processed. Especially when it comes to resources like plat and titanium, I think you should be using the miasmic pickaxe. Even if you just want to plop down a 1x1 with a chest so you can plop the noxious ores in there until you make your way back, it really is worth it. It effectively trivializes the more expensive recipes like composites or titanium plates.
Oh yes that's a great idea. Once I have a really nice main base set up, I plan on making some outpost bases. Out in the volcanic region, maybe one in the southern arctic as well.
IN the episode after next I start using the miasmic pick much more and end up just riding the moa. I also start gathering exotics with the miasmic, so helpful!
@@dannyrothko Nice! Even for the base expansion, I've found that for larger concrete structures, finding enough silica on the map on Prometheus is tough. The arctic biomes are stacked to the brim with them however. Even there though, it's not easy to find enough. To do a little math here. Lets say you need the equivalent of 150 wall pieces. 150 wall pieces will cost you 600 cement, which will cost you 2400 silica and 4800 stone, along with 150 steel ingots in the form of rebar. 150 steel will cost you 900 iron ore. The stone is everywhere, so no issue there, and if you empty a few caves of iron, you should have the iron ore as well. But the silica, at lets say 40 silica per node, you will need to find 60 nodes. I don't think I've found 60 nodes in TOTAL in the foresty biome on Prometheus. HOWEVER, with using the miasmic pickaxe, you would only need to find around 15 or so silica nodes, which is more than manageable. Either way though, I'm sure you already know all this. Love the content, can't wait for more.

First off, great videos. Your play through and explanation of what/why you are doing is entertaining to watch. For extra food storage space, I used a point for the Ice Box. Used with the Deep Freeze, the ice produced by the freezer easily fuels the ice box(s) and are much cheaper/faster to spec into if you are not using another character for alt skills and crafting.

You can also drop your alt character on your open world and eat all the exp food buffs and then do the vapor condenser horde mode... that way you can get purple exotics and 4 different bestiary points while doing so. Wolf, jaguar, bears and bear cubs... it might be slightly faster and you can craft guns and leave it in a box for your alt to pick up at lvl 0...

Don't forget after mining exotics to keep one in your inventory when you put the rest in storage

Ironically I just bought stuff to do exactly what you’re doing before I found you I just haven’t mustered up the skill/courage. You are a breath of fresh air for this games’ content it was getting stale. Between the couple creators like you and how much I’ve fallen in love with this game I’m finally gonna attempt to create content. FYI I’m about 150 hours in (level 52 main) and I still learn very useful tips from you! Keep up the good work man I really look forward to this series every time!

Fantastic tip regarding the deep freeze storage. I’ll definitely be respeccing one of my characters for crafting and grabbing one or two of those bad boys.

Although it is very cheap, I never really spend ren on seeds. The avocado and strawberry seeds you can get from the SMPL3 missions as rewards :)

For titanium, which used to be my bottleneck, my goto is the miasmic pickaxe + level 2 titanium enhancement from the advanced bench. Of course now that we have titanium deep veins it becomes less of an issue after a while.
I have been neglecting the miasmic pick for sure, but I will be making much more use of it in a couple episodes!
Roast vegetables 225 stamina, rhubarb stew 225 stam, as well as muffins. Avocado and freshwater fish in glass jar 150 each, no spoilage on glass jar items.
Pies and rolls for hp buffs, help with crust trafficking. I try and carry a storage device to limit exposure.

add the food slot modifier on a crafted chest piece and get 5 food slots. also use ur miasmic pickaxe on exotics to increase gain from noxious crusts

Awesome to hear! It's a great game. I have mine on the overall epic preset, with a framerate cap at 144
Great Explanation on the Food and their benefits. I generally make Shepards Pie, Meat Pie and Fruit Pie, plus Crispy Bacon. The "Advanced Deep Ore Vein Scanner" available at the workshop is better. You are still not using the Miasmic Pickaxe for the actual mining. With a health potion, or two, you would be fine. You do have a massive health bar. Also you can build wooden floors and ramps over the Lava, just don't let it touch the Lava.
The Deep Ore Vein Scanner only shows the location of the node - not what it is. To carry out searches for particular nodes, you need to use the Advanced Deep Ore Vein Scanner which is only available for purchase at the orbital workshop.
Yes I'm loving the food buffs now. I want to try out a bunch of the ones I haven't tried too much before. And yes that other ore scanner is nice to search for specific ores, but so expensive!
Iykyk, food is the most important to me lol. Freezer and even fridge with perk is only way.
Stomach space perk and can add nutrition attachment to chest armor for another additional buff.

If you cross the lava bridge in tunnel cave think there should be more titanium on other side closer to outside lava biome.
Should be obsidian on bridge if you have sledgehammer.
Mine the exotics and titanium ores with the miasmic pickaxe you will get tones more.

Thank you for watching! I have both the "New Frontiers" and "Styx" expansions which include the 2 other main maps - Prometheus and Styx. The "Prospector Edition" includes both.
All the other DLC is cosmetic things like base decorations, or outpost maps which are kind of like a "creative mode" map.
at this point of tech you should really take a look at alteration benches, especially if you're min-maxing the play

Curious - if the beehive buff extends upwards, does it also extend downwards? So for example, you create a platform above the seed beds, put the hive on there, and then you can put the most amount of seed beds below it rather than have it sitting on the ground breaking up the grid?
[ANSWERED IN THE VIDEO] Also, apologies if you already explained this, but - why aren't you using batteries to help offset night time power shortage? It is a lack of mats, or tech, or ... are they just not worth it?

Thanks for the comment! The beehive buff does extend downwards so you could have a three level farm with the bees in the middle level.
Batteries are great, and I will be constructing a lot of them throughout the later episodes in the series! The small batteries are really not worth it, only the super expensive ones.
I tame a horse in the newest video coming out tomorrow, we definitely will be using it once the new update drops. It is a pretty good companion in a fight, but it is so slow compared to the moa that I don't use it for now.
Currently animals don't breed, but who knows if that will change with Laica.
The second character is going to be pretty much just for all the crafting focused skills, my main one is an all-rounder focused on solo play and shotguns for offense!

I have to admit, although I play scads of survival games (I'm currently Occupying Mars and trying very hard not to die to stupid things ... APPARENTLY you need O2 on airless planets!), I hadn't actually seen this one until UA-cam decided to throw your videos for this series out at me. At the beginning, I was looking at all the nested dependancies of the tech tree and thinking "This is way too many moving parts, I'll be spending all my time grinding instead of playing".
But I stuck with it, and I think I'm finally understanding the flow, and that's solely down to you explaining your reasoning for each selection.
Not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger on it, but it's on my wishlist for the future. In the meantime, looking forwards to new episodes!

Another reason i do simple missions is for seed rewards.
Mushrooms in the snow biome caves by your base. There are watermelon and carrots in the biome you did this story mission.
I just have such bad luck with SMPL3 rewards haha

Why is everything Purple?!
On the Prometheus map there is a constant purple haze in the grasslands. The swamp has a green haze too. The arctic / volcanic regions are much less hazy.
