Why do vehicle manufacturers keep putting display screens into cars that look like an afterthought ? Surely we all know they are super slim screens by now, so why not make dashboards that wrap round the screens ??? Just an observation.. AND... Give us back our buttons so we stop taking our eyes off the road to change the radio or temperature etc.
Agreed They mostly do it because it's easier for them but the dashboards on this year's models just look so plain with a single big screen in the middle

U clearly haven't seen a m3 or m4 with some aftermarket parts. This isn't head turning a m3 or m4 is. This also cost as much as a m3 but it's slower then a m340i 😂
@user-my4xu4gf1z "with some aftermarket parts" essentially proves my point. This is not a masterclass in design by any means, however it looks far better than whatever BMW has designed STOCK from the factory in recent years.
@seansiew5629 I agree, Merc designs tend to be a little boring lately. However, the XM is the most hideous car BMW/M has designed, in my opinion. The 7 isn't too bad - it just goes to show it's all subjective, I guess.
I’m stuck with the e450 coupe. The cle looks gorgeous from the exterior BUT i cannot approve of that c coupe interior. I also cannot approve of the b pillar. Not at these prices. Only thing im missing out on at this point is the massage seats. I’ll wait until Mercedes gets their head back on their shoulders and drop the b pillar, switch to e class interior, and v8 engine in their coupes again.
V8 is considered expensive these days. More fuel for me in the fuel tank. 6 cylinder cars are much more fuel efficient. 4 cylinder great but not that fun and sporty. But subaru and mitsubishi have fast 4 cars. Also rotor cars are great.
Oh its done on purpose, similar to the newly released Porsche Macan. Its not that its due to build quality, but a design so that its a way of providing touch feedback to the button presses due to the entire panel being one individual piece, instead of small buttons.

It's a somewhat acceptable compromise if you do want AWD, but the biggest issue is that when you put it in RWD mode, you still have the weight and resistance of the extra drivetrain components even if they're disengaged. Most importantly on the front axle. This will have quite a noticeable impact on vehicle dynamics. Pure, permanent RWD vehicles will have much better steering weight, respons and feel than a switchable AWD/RWD system. Still much better than permanent AWD though, of course, it's just (generally) not nearly equal to a pure RWD system

Interesting that the interior is definitely from a C-class, but they put a six-cylinder in it. A clever solution to simplifying their coupe lineup, but for its price it could be insulting. After all, you could probably get a "real" E-class AMG for about same price in 2025. I'm also disappointed with the standard equipment. €60 for a sliding sun visor? €900 for any color besides black? €2000 for any other seat colors? Even Porsche doesn't seem that stingy.
@faeinthebay Yes, you've got a point with this. On the other hand, the size of the CLE is more "E-Classy" ... it is around 4,80m long and the interior has room similar to the old E-Class coupe. So in the end, as the name says it is a Mix of E-Class (Engine portfolio, size) and C-Class (Interior).

Übrigens ist bei Alpin grau nicht weniger Farbe drauf. Bei Uni Lacken ist dieselbe Lackstärke inzwischen. Nur keine Metall Partikel in der Farbe und deswegen sind Kratzer leichter zu sehen als bei metallic Lack. Dieses Alpin grau ist seltsamer Weise viel teurer als metallic Lack. Warum weiß ich nicht. Eventuell Manufaktur. Kann man beim normalen CLE die Kopfstützen auch nach vorn und hinten bewegen? Also horizontal meine ich. Nicht oben und unten. Das geht ja denk ich.

Not a fan of the dash/instruments. To me it seems that they just got lazy and planed two rectangle screens that serve the purpose of infotainment. And for me, that would be a no go to get me to buy. Thanks again for the great review! 👍👍
I noticed that you commented on the paddle shifters feeling nice? I recently got a CLA shooting brake and I feel like the shifter paddles feel like cheap plastic. Are the ones in the CLE a different material, because the steering wheel looks identical to me.
This car does look good and sleek; however the instrument cluster(slap on tablet over the steering column) looks chincy like some afterthought. There should have been more of a cockpit intstrument cluster integrated with the dash. Other than this design omission the car looks spot on.
A very dark, cramped and cluttered (with screens) interior- yuk. Exterior in full military grey - yuk yuk. A true sport car should not have distracting and cumbersome screens in front of the driver. Thank you, Thomas and Leah, for the great review!
Thanks! It is microfibre. There is no animal based suede leather in the automotive industry, just doesnt exist. All microfibre you see is microfibre non-animal based - gladly.
This is the very first *NON-GT* AMG that I've seen with an actually colorful interior. I've been in the Benz market for a good four years now. I'm an e450 coupe owner. I did not get the e53 because there were no colorful interiors, and ultimately having a colorful interior gives the car that luxury look I wanted. I got saddle brown btw. No matter what dealer I called regardless of where in the country, or what forum I checked online, these amg coupes did not have colorful interiors. They had all Black interiors. Or Predominantly Black with a few lines of different colors but it was still pretty much an all Black interior. Just boring on the inside. No sense of luxury. So I went with the e450. Now that I see there's colored interiors on the cle 53 it's bittersweet. I would love to buy this vehicle but I despise the c class interior. I could put up with the b pillar if it wasn't for that c class interior.
One reason I purchased a Panamera GTS over a Merc was the fact that the infotainment screen was very distracting on the Merc. The Panamera screen displays all the icons at once while the Merc you have to swipe to find the desired icon function. The screen is angled on the Merc in a way that bright sun light washes out the screen and it is much hotter in temperature because of this fact making it uncomfortable to touch. Fortunately the S class has incorporated the air con vents making them less intrusive. In the C and E class the air con vents almost over take the dash board. There is nothing attractive about air vents. The only fault with the Panamera are in the seats which I feel are decidedly less comfortable than the Merc the dynamic seats hold you far better than the Panamera
Mercedes use the zero layer approach so you don't need the icons at all, you just stay on the Nav screen and everything you need(telephone, music etc) is floating around the map. I havent had the hot screen thing but then I live in the UK where we don't get much sun!
Hey can you give some quick words on the CLE53 vs the GT 55? What’s the delta here when considering both. The 55 has more character but less useful back seat. What else am I giving up with the CLE?

Many problems with Mercedes Benz cars, last only for 3 to 5 years.
I6 is a sweet spot, smooth and powerful. Much better than I4, still upset without V8.

Atm i am not 100 % satisfied with action cams, i wanna test how the dji action 5 turns out. For filming yourself go for the pocket 3 and use ptv mode

Not a fan of the dash/instruments. To me it seems that they just got lazy and planed two rectangle screens that serve the purpose of infotainment. And for me, that would be a no go to get me to buy. Thanks again for the great review! 👍👍
Why don’t the actual exhausts form part of the the nice finished exterior exhaust outlet ?

I noticed that you commented on the paddle shifters feeling nice? I recently got a CLA shooting brake and I feel like the shifter paddles feel like cheap plastic. Are the ones in the CLE a different material, because the steering wheel looks identical to me.

I would love a company to go back to analog dash, supercharged 6cyl, 5 spd manual & 60/40 split 4wd.
Why only 5 speed ? And 4Matic is better, its 69 rear biased already.
This car does look good and sleek; however the instrument cluster(slap on tablet over the steering column) looks chincy like some afterthought. There should have been more of a cockpit intstrument cluster integrated with the dash. Other than this design omission the car looks spot on.
Is this upgrade worth it over the regular 450?

A very dark, cramped and cluttered (with screens) interior- yuk. Exterior in full military grey - yuk yuk. A true sport car should not have distracting and cumbersome screens in front of the driver.

Thanks! It is microfibre. There is no animal based suede leather in the automotive industry, just doesnt exist. All microfibre you see is microfibre non-animal based - gladly.
This is the very first *NON-GT* AMG that I've seen with an actually colorful interior. I've been in the Benz market for a good four years now. I'm an e450 coupe owner. I did not get the e53 because there were no colorful interiors, and ultimately having a colorful interior gives the car that luxury look I wanted. I got saddle brown btw. No matter what dealer I called regardless of where in the country, or what forum I checked online, these amg coupes did not have colorful interiors. They had all Black interiors. Or Predominantly Black with a few lines of different colors but it was still pretty much an all Black interior. Just boring on the inside. No sense of luxury. So I went with the e450. Now that I see there's colored interiors on the cle 53 it's bittersweet. I would love to buy this vehicle but I despise the c class interior. I could put up with the b pillar if it wasn't for that c class interior.

One reason I purchased a Panamera GTS over a Merc was the fact that the infotainment screen was very distracting on the Merc. The Panamera screen displays all the icons at once while the Merc you have to swipe to find the desired icon function. The screen is angled on the Merc in a way that bright sun light washes out the screen and it is much hotter in temperature because of this fact making it uncomfortable to touch. Fortunately the S class has incorporated the air con vents making them less intrusive. In the C and E class the air con vents almost over take the dash board. There is nothing attractive about air vents. The only fault with the Panamera are in the seats which I feel are decidedly less comfortable than the Merc the dynamic seats hold you far better than the Panamera
Mercedes use the zero layer approach so you don't need the icons at all, you just stay on the Nav screen and everything you need(telephone, music etc) is floating around the map. I havent had the hot screen thing but then I live in the UK where we don't get much sun!

Hey can you give some quick words on the CLE53 vs the GT 55? What’s the delta here when considering both. The 55 has more character but less useful back seat. What else am I giving up with the CLE?
hmm different philosophy I would say, the CLE is more planted/balanced whereas the GT has a lighter rear if you know what I mean

Thin leather that wears in 15000km and piano black everywhere to get scratched in 500kms, AMG since 2016 feels so cheap inside
The stitches on the leather even on the video looks crookedly, amazing mercedes quality.
plus on top of that, the price is funny, cause you can buy Porsche 992 for that price which is more fun to drive and quality muchhhh better.
