The Vette is a great deal but its a "second car". The other cars can fit 4 adults, be a great family car, winter car, track day car and the only car you need. I drive a tuned BMW X-Drive 535-M Sport year round in Edmonton and commute long distances to work. If you cant afford a second vehicle, live in a big city where you don't have the parking extra space for a second vehicle the BMW M3, M340i or M440I is perfect for the enthusiast that lives in the north and can only have one car for whatever reason.
C8 is also a bargain when you compare the maintenance costs. But it loses in trunk space. Which is sad since the earlier models have a huge hatch trunk.

Looked like in the first drag race 7:38 the nose was dipping between shifts like a stick car. Having never driven the c8 is that normal? DCT should prevent that much upset in theory.
Definitely I didn’t have enough heat in the tires. Being cool outside as well my rear wheels just spun. Doesn’t help that I had traction control off. the up and down of the front end was me trying to gain traction and dct trying to engage into gear. Road conditions weren’t the greatest that’s why I was in the middle. I felt the back end a few times down the straight loosen up a bit
I love BMW , had an M2 , Supra( B58 lol) and I now have a G82 M4 .. but I will say it’s nice to see there’s an actual competitor now. Great job Mercedes!
Including the C8 was not a great idea. It just overwhelmed, and you couldn’t hear anything but the V8. Glad you had fun, but it made it less interesting.
These European channels suck at launching American Muscle and supercars/sports cars, so this is absolutely fair. Not to mention they regularly neglected and don't bother trying hard enough with American Sports cars. Totally fair.
Why do so many people call it a "Corvette C8" ? It's a C8 Corvette, as in 8th Generation. Also a lot of people say it's a "Z51" when that's just a package, not a model. LOL.
1. In Foreign Countries you always start with Model/ Trim then the car name. Figure most people know the car is a corvette but not the trim. So, like Zed06 (Z06) Corvette 2. because it's the upgraded version (Performance Package) of the base corvette and holds more weight just like the Z06 with the Z07 package. I'd consider the Z51 vs Base basically a different car with the dry sump, bigger wheels, different suspension (magnetic ride control), Upgraded Rotors and braking system and electronic valved exhaust as well different modes like Race 1 and Race 2.

I have a 2022 m440i that I put a JB4, downpipe, awe exhaust and changed the sparkplugs and ignition coils and it is a beast in sport+ mode. I have destroyed multiple “sports” cars and 800+ hp trucks. Couldn’t hang with the vette but that is understandable, it’s a very fun car
@@semicolon101 I don’t care about the warranty and if I had bought the M4 competition I would have done the same to it, I mod all my cars. So I bought a less expensive car and increased its ability for small amount of money. So as far as I am concerned it’s a win for me and I am happy with it.

@@WeirdBrick sure, Corvette was quicker, but 0-60 was under 4 seconds for all cars. A sedan that you’ll be able to purchase for $30k off lease in 3 yrs that’s several tenths of a second off from a Corvette in 0-60 is pretty amazing IMO.
What’s funny is that you have to compare the high performance version of a 3 series against the slowest version of a corvette. Put that m3 against a Z06 and watch it blow the doors off just like it did to the m5 cs. C8 Z06 current quarter mile record is 10.2 100% stock. While a m5 CS did 10.6 in best conditions.
The Vette is the car to pick for speed and looks by far, even though that vette should be pumping out more HP than it is, another great video Sam keep them coming!!
No disrespect to the C8 driver but you need a replacement. 3.6s for launch control. No way in hell. He should be at 2.7-3s with proper launch control. I do it all the time with my 3LT.
M440 owner here about what I expected. The bmw is way down on power and stays with the merc from a roll, the extra power in the merc comes in handy in the dig races. Carbahn stage 1 tune, keep your warranty and about 2 thousand dollars later, you have a cle53 beater. Im just not sure of the value proposition Mercedes is going for, the interior build quality still sucks and the price is too expensive. I can buy a m4 for a similar price, BUT it looks great especially with the rear arches.
Really depends on your idea of Bargain. I love the C8 corvette and was thinking of purchasing one. Previously owned a c7 corvette and Maintenance wasn't bad at all. My fun cars are always a 2nd car/ weekend fun car, so I don't put a lot of miles on them. Your typical oil change with mobile one was around 100 dollars doing it yourself. Other than that, there wasn't a whole lot you had to do up until 40k miles. I got the car up at 6k and sold it at 34k and that was around 6-7 years of ownership. So, maintenance wasn't really an issue which I'm assuming it would be like that for most people besides basic stuff. I ended up getting an R35 (CBA) after that corvette and really end up hating the platform due to maintenance and GT-R tax. the R35 honestly feels cheap-ish and rides not so great. But let me tell you it was fast. So, after getting rid of the R35 I was looking at getting back into a Corvette (C8) but when it was all said and done and driving one, it was quite boring. It felt great for cruising was probably quick enough for most people but for me seemed really tame, so I'd want to mod it. That's where the problem came in.... These things are slow-slow on the roll! like incredibly slow! long story short if you do a TT setup with a tune the car will run low 8 seconds 60-130 high 7's. it would of roughly costed me around 20k for that setup. Which really made me just say hey...if I do that why not just get a z06 (base) for $116k(USD) due to getting the Stingray new (2lt) and that would have costed me around $78k USD. The Z06 once again quick in stock form but not much you can do to really get pass that stock power without spending big money. So, I ended up going with an BMW M4 (Wish I would have gotten a M3, Same car just one is two doors vs four doors). M4 F80 with downpipe $500(usd), Mid-pipe $500(Usd), MHD Stage 2 tune (e30) 500 USD and I'm making 570ish hp which is about as fast as a stock c7 Z06 and the G80 will make closer to 700+ with the same set up. So really depends on your end goal.

The CLE actually lost to the M440i on the roll, despite the drivers slower reaction times. The M440i can do better than a 12.4 on the quarter mile for sure. A 12-12.1 should be absolutely doable if launch control is used correctly. The 2025 M440i comes with 386hp/428tq with overboost, so it will be even faster.
Hey Sam, are you sure about the prices for the 440 and CLE 53? I'm not from Canada, but here in Europe 440ix starts at around 74k € and the 53 CLE at 94k €.
Interesting race, i was shopping for either a cle 53 or an m440i, both were similar price but for the lease rates there was a huge different. I decided to go with the m440i, both are great cars can't go wrong with either of them in my opinion. Great video Sam 👏
I’d much rather the M4 or 440i.. BMW engineering is superior imo right on par and many times succeeding Audi. Audi and BMW is where it’s at out of the 3 Big Germans
For me the 440i is the better option if you gonna tune it and the CLE53 if you going to leave it stock. Just personal preference says that the CLE53 is very quick stock but also has a bit of a whofty luxurious feel to it in comfort setting. Just love it!

Yeah, the Mercedes did great from a dig but the Vette was just too fast and out muscled the other two. I don't know if the mods made it slower but it sounded good with the headers.

Nice race Sam, I'm surprised the BMW got last, but at 500 pounds lighters and 12 grand cheaper it would be my buy. Compared to the merc its going to be the better handling car. the brakes will hold up at track day (500 lbs lighter) and at 12 grand cheaper you could buy some track tires and wheels or a carbahn tune with warranty, installed at the dealer. I don't think headers and stickier tires make the Vette slower though. Obviously the Vette is fastest but the other two could easily be your family car, winter car, track day car and only car.

Honestly the Corvette had the opposite show of performance than I expected. I was thinking the C8 was going to lose on the top end with roll races and win from a dig from the drag race. The pushrod LT2 is not known for top end power. But it is known for low end launching. Not what I was expecting.

Awesome video as usual from Sam I see these CLE53's and M4's a lot in my city, they try to pick on my 2016 Ford Focus because I have numbers on the side (RaceRed and black theme like this vette). They're quick cars, but their drivers are not typically 'enthusiasts', so they're extremely surprised when my ST simply blows them away. After the second or third try, they just stay back. Even a few C8's have learned that with a built engine and big turbo, a 500whp Focus is no joke despite looking nearly stock. All in I have probably just over $30k in my Focus (bought new in 2016). I'd say its a bargain compared to any 1 of these..granted the type of person who buys any AMG, M series BMW, or C8 wouldnt probably even consider being seen in a 4 door hatchback Focus 😅

M440 owner here about what I expected. The bmw is way down on power and stays with the merc from a roll, the extra power in the merc comes in handy in the dig races. Carbahn stage 1 tune, keep your warranty and about 2 thousand dollars later, you have a cle53 beater.
Im just not sure of the value proposition Mercedes is going for, the interior build quality still sucks and the price is too expensive. I can buy a m4 for a similar price, BUT it looks great especially with the rear arches.

Really depends on your idea of Bargain. I love the C8 corvette and was thinking of purchasing one. Previously owned a c7 corvette and Maintenance wasn't bad at all. My fun cars are always a 2nd car/ weekend fun car, so I don't put a lot of miles on them. Your typical oil change with mobile one was around 100 dollars doing it yourself. Other than that, there wasn't a whole lot you had to do up until 40k miles. I got the car up at 6k and sold it at 34k and that was around 6-7 years of ownership. So, maintenance wasn't really an issue which I'm assuming it would be like that for most people besides basic stuff.
I ended up getting an R35 (CBA) after that corvette and really end up hating the platform due to maintenance and GT-R tax. the R35 honestly feels cheap-ish and rides not so great. But let me tell you it was fast. So, after getting rid of the R35 I was looking at getting back into a Corvette (C8) but when it was all said and done and driving one, it was quite boring. It felt great for cruising was probably quick enough for most people but for me seemed really tame, so I'd want to mod it. That's where the problem came in.... These things are slow-slow on the roll! like incredibly slow! long story short if you do a TT setup with a tune the car will run low 8 seconds 60-130 high 7's. it would of roughly costed me around 20k for that setup. Which really made me just say hey...if I do that why not just get a z06 (base) for $116k(USD) due to getting the Stingray new (2lt) and that would have costed me around $78k USD. The Z06 once again quick in stock form but not much you can do to really get pass that stock power without spending big money. So, I ended up going with an BMW M4 (Wish I would have gotten a M3, Same car just one is two doors vs four doors). M4 F80 with downpipe $500(usd), Mid-pipe $500(Usd), MHD Stage 2 tune (e30) 500 USD and I'm making 570ish hp which is about as fast as a stock c7 Z06 and the G80 will make closer to 700+ with the same set up. So really depends on your end goal.
Was the C8 driver shifting gears (stupid) as you can see the car bog down as if he's shifting? Was he even in launch mode?
So many car journalist change gear when the tyres spin and then it bogs. They continuously do it on car wow to my amazement.
He definitely was NOT using the C8's launch control. The Corvette would have been much quicker off the line. It's a sub 3 second 0-60 car.

The CLE actually lost to the M440i on the roll, despite the drivers slower reaction times. The M440i can do better than a 12.4 on the quarter mile for sure. A 12-12.1 should be absolutely doable if launch control is used correctly. The 2025 M440i comes with 386hp/428tq with overboost, so it will be even faster.
12.3-12.4 is the accurate time. Look at any magazine testing for the M440i or M340i, it’s never gonna do a 12 flat stock

Hey Sam, are you sure about the prices for the 440 and CLE 53? I'm not from Canada, but here in Europe 440ix starts at around 74k € and the 53 CLE at 94k €.

I’d much rather the M4 or 440i.. BMW engineering is superior imo right on par and many times succeeding Audi. Audi and BMW is where it’s at out of the 3 Big Germans
For me the 440i is the better option if you gonna tune it and the CLE53 if you going to leave it stock. Just personal preference says that the CLE53 is very quick stock but also has a bit of a whofty luxurious feel to it in comfort setting. Just love it!

Yeah, the Mercedes did great from a dig but the Vette was just too fast and out muscled the other two. I don't know if the mods made it slower but it sounded good with the headers.

Nice race Sam, I'm surprised the BMW got last, but at 500 pounds lighters and 12 grand cheaper it would be my buy. Compared to the merc its going to be the better handling car. the brakes will hold up at track day (500 lbs lighter) and at 12 grand cheaper you could buy some track tires and wheels or a carbahn tune with warranty, installed at the dealer. I don't think headers and stickier tires make the Vette slower though. Obviously the Vette is fastest but the other two could easily be your family car, winter car, track day car and only car.

Honestly the Corvette had the opposite show of performance than I expected. I was thinking the C8 was going to lose on the top end with roll races and win from a dig from the drag race. The pushrod LT2 is not known for top end power. But it is known for low end launching. Not what I was expecting.

I see these CLE53's and M4's a lot in my city, they try to pick on my 2016 Ford Focus because I have numbers on the side (RaceRed and black theme like this vette). They're quick cars, but their drivers are not typically 'enthusiasts', so they're extremely surprised when my ST simply blows them away. After the second or third try, they just stay back. Even a few C8's have learned that with a built engine and big turbo, a 500whp Focus is no joke despite looking nearly stock. All in I have probably just over $30k in my Focus (bought new in 2016). I'd say its a bargain compared to any 1 of these..granted the type of person who buys any AMG, M series BMW, or C8 wouldnt probably even consider being seen in a 4 door hatchback Focus 😅
