Do your LUTs work well when using the Cinetone picture profile? Or are they better suited for standard and Log profiles?

I was finally able to convince a couple to use super 8 mixed with 4k footage in their wedding, not only they loved it, they regretted not getting mor film throughout the whole video. My next goal is to be able to film an entire wedding on 16mm!

Love this! We started offering Super 8 this year and it has been a hit! I see that 514! We're on the 814 and LOVE it so far. Probably going to send it in to get completely torn down and rebuilt (just for longevity sake), during our January break.

Great Video, Matt! I love the shot with all the disco lights and the couple dancing - I have never tried shooting at night (beyond using a roll of 500T for a sunset/blue hour shoot) but am definitely going to try this!

Thanks! Def recommend bringing a light to handhold with the super 8. It helps a ton with exposure

I shot a wedding on 16mm film. 16mm has better resolution, more frames per shot, and not as much "frame jitter" which is one of my biggest technical headaches with Super 8mm. However, Super 8 has that classic "home movie" look that is just not replicable with the larger film gauges so i understand the demand to have weddings shot in S8.

That’s the beauty of what we do is that we can pretty much do whatever we want and it seems that super eight is the latest craze. Is it more dreamy and all those things you say, I guess that’s all in the eye of the beholder…

  • @perlmunger

Maybe try Hi-8. It doesn’t require developing film and it can be easily digitized with a USB video converter. The look is different from super 8, but still pretty vintage looking.

Started shooting super 8 in 2019 and this month I’m shooting 3 different fully film weddings. I agree - it’s not something videographers should be adding on for cheap. Especially now that demand is driving up the cost of the cameras and development is taking longer because of the company’s workload. I’m a little sad that it’s becoming trendy because I believe it’s truly timeless, but it’s beautiful and authentic, so I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

I love it! Super 8 is so dreamy 😍 I use vhs for weddings for similar reasons, but it’s cheaper, and it’s more nostalgic for the 90’s kids that make up most of my clients. Love it man!

I have trusted and used your input on many products with no regrets. With that said, I intend to update my editing suite and purchase one of the new Macbook Pro 16, with the M1X chip, perhaps. I use Adobe Premiere Pro and an external monitors. Curious to see if you have any suggestions as to 16 or 32 GPU, video graphics, or even a better system. Thanks for all your assistance with wedding video knowledge as I'm sure many brides and grooms appreciate it too. Great videos!

I started with standard 8 and Super 8, and let me tell you; it's a different ball game than with todays tech. If you know what you are doing with todays offerings, it can be rewarding visually. Using the film reels of both 8's, can be frustrating without any control over development; unless of course you set up your own processing room.

Very happy with your video! I just wondered with the camera you have (514XL) what film would you recommend for shooting weddings outdoors in the UK 200D?, and are there any issues with shooting the 500T indoors with this camera?

Hello Matt, I have to film parts of a Wedding in Super 8 style with my A7SIIIs. Do you have any suggestion for a plugin wich do the job as good as an original Super 8 Camera? In the 70s I filmed with a Nizzo, but my family give it away in the 80s.... what a Shame!

I can't wait to get a super 8 camera, BUT I feel like the real question is, is it really needed even if it's coming back in style because, yes, it's cool for us as videographers to use, but will our couples really notice the difference in real super 8 footage compared to a clip edited to look like super 8? I've seen so many fake super 8 clips that I would believe any real footage was no different. Anyways.. gonna go buy one now 😂

I couldn't wait for portable video to become accessible, and now you want to go back to that crappy format? Super 8 cartridges are under 4 mins long. You'll be swapping them a lot. Then I assume you'll need to transfer the film to video - another step in the wedding workflow added to what is already an intense workflow. Sorry Matt, you're not going to sell me on this. I was glad to see 8mm and Super 8mm go away.

OldSkoolDJ54 man, all the millennials are into it, they love retro and love the idea to be a part in it just like their parents and grandparents did for their weddings. They can get copies of the film on SD cards or sticks and give them out to family. The Hipsters are right into it too, in fact a lot of them even want all wedding photos on a Leica iii with kodak Portra film!! They're a no digital zone! A wedding party will drop $500-$1k on flowers that last 2 days then get tossed, so the same $$ for a lasting and retro cool memory is an easy sell. Millennials are always looking for that standout edge for their special day that tops other weddings. It's bragging rights.
