Well!! Thank you for showcasing Vertex! Was actually in London yesterday to see Don and the new boutique! I was watching this wearing my M100 it’s the manual wind 1st edition Don brought out. In my eyes it needs to be manual wind as that’s how the original was! Pretty much my favourite brand in terms of history, military history and the true respect Don gives with each new release. If you took over your great grandads business you’d want to give it the highest respect you could physically and financially you can give it. Don and Vertex is this in a nutshell ! Awesome show and an intro worthy for your showreel!!!
I personally think that Longines has been absolutely killing it lately with their releases. So many gorgeous watches coming from there. My pick is the Longines, but the Vertex holds it's own as well.
No doubt. If I had to suggest a brand to a new comer, I would first say Longines, then say Tudor. I think both brands are killing it with affordable prices.
Alex, I couldn't agree more regarding the brand Longines. I have 4-5 on my very short list right now. Great bang for ones buck indeed. Regarding this review and these two watches UG reviewed....hands down the Vertex is the winner and the better watch overall. I don't own the Vertex my I have a buddy that does own it and all I can say is, WOW. So much better in person. Everything else, Omega, Longines, GS and Tudor all day long. Thanks, Alex......
As a veteran I appreciate every time you include military ships, planes, memorials, etc… in your videos / watch reviews. Your respect and admiration for these things and the men and women who served in the armed forces of this nation and others is the kindest and most generous way of expressing your gratitude. Both watches are beautiful but I find myself favoring the Vertek. Longines always seems to have so much unrealized potential in their offerings. What a splendid way to start the weekend watching another excellent video!🥃
I've not been your biggest fan Sir, but I admire how you have stayed away from all the recent watch drama/scandals and just stuck to doing your thing. Fair play to you, for that. Top man. Best wishes - VC
Thank you, I appreciate the respectful honesty. I have mentioned in several videos over this last year, I am not here for drama, nor vapid click bait (well, maybe sometimes just a little to make things interesting, we still have to grow this hobby!). Sadly, although I have no idea of what the current drama is about today, or care to know about, this is just a sad reality of the insidious hype driven YT algorithm and the nosiness of people who should do better things with their limited time on this planet IMO. I just want to share my passion and learn about watches at all levels and try having some fun doing so. That has always been my MO. I am glad you appreciate that and are better then that.. Onwards and upwards! Best regards, TGV
Great review (as always). I’ve owned one of the limited manual-wind Vertex M100 (no A) watches for just over two years and it is a watch that I just never get tired of. These were not offered to the public, but I emailed Don and told him that I’d like to buy one to mark my promotion in the US Army to Lieutenant Colonel and not only did he give me the code to the M100 purchase site, but threw in a diverse assortment of NATO straps and a generous discount that I did not ask for. Fit and finish are on a similar level to Tag Heuer, Tudor and Omega, slightly better than Longines and Rado and slightly below Rolex and IWC. My manual-wind watch (ETA/Pesseux 7001) lacks a screw-down crown and hacking seconds, but is more authentic to the 1940s original because of it (while still water resistant to 100 meters). At 10mm thick, it is 2mm thinner than the new M100A, and on the black leather strap or the optional bracelet (Don generously sent me one without charge) is fancy enough to pair with a suit and tie. It is also accurate to +2 seconds per day and has been since the say I bought it. This is my favorite watch.
I always appreciate content with military history. Now you know you have both a boat and a watch with your name on it! I love both brands and have had my eye on the Vertex for some time now.
I am really enjoying the “field” videos you are producing- really excellent and interesting locations. Love that era of watches especially and seeing around the ship. That vintage Vertex is lovely!
A fantastic video again TGV about these two incredible watches from Vertex and Longines. I personally really like the look of the Vertex especially for its wonderful lume. The backdrop of recording this video on an actual WW2 battleship really made this video awesome. Thanks for sharing this.
Military inspired watches are my absolute favorite and it's difficult to choose between these two. Longines executed the sand colored dial flawlessly and I love the cathedral style hands. Yet the Vertex I think takes the win with that superb lume. Being accustomed to standing watches at night on a ship myself, having good lume on a watch is a nice luxury.
Yet another great video TGV. The quality of your productions and the connection to history has no equal in the UA-cam watch community. My grandfather served with the Royal Navy from 1917 to 1925 and later with the Royal Australian Navy from 1925 to 1961, consequently I have an interest in all things Naval. On our visits to the USA, the Philadelphia Naval Yard was a highlight, and we were fortunate enough to stay in a hotel within the precinct. Wandering around the Naval Yard, to see the USS JFK berthed at the end of the war was a highlight and it was amazing to observe the shear size of this ship.
Incredible watch TGV. As a veteran, I'm impressed. You did this segment right. Longines is a great brand which has been around a long time with a storied history beyond watches. Love the Vertex featured here as well.
Somewhere, at the bottom of the Mediterranean, there lies an Omega HS8. My grandfather (who was a CPO in 816sqd Fleet Air Arm), lost it as he was getting off HMS Ark Royal, when it had been torpedoed and sank.
Wow, what an amazing story. It looks very similar to the Omega I once owned. Have you ever considered buying a vintage one to honor him? Thank you for sharing that btw, your grandfather sounds like a brave chap. Best regards, TGV
@@theurbangentry He was. He joined the navy in 1916 and served until 1945. He was on HMS Dasher when its ammunition magazine exploded, and was one of very few men that survived. I considered buying one but...he earned his. To each his own, but I've developed the opinion that military watches are for...well...the military. I'll drink to his enduring memory with a tot of rum instead.
I was OWG with the Heritage Military for 4 years. It’s my absolute favorite, the benchmark for my collection and a watch I will never sell. Great video 👍
Glad to see this Longines getting some attention! It’s a great choice for those who are interested in the aesthetics of vintage/WWII watches, but are put off by their fragility. And as TGV alluded to, it’s a bit of an uncommon choice, which I find appealing
Best intro in a good while. Captivating. And the period location and in situ watch release were a great touch. Well done. I know you prefer the 36-38mm watches, but you ever find the time and interest, I'd love a survey of field watches for the 7.5 - 8" wrist crowd. I have only found the Glycine Incursore ref 3874.3 (at 46mm), but would love to know if there are other (and better) gems in the larger, e'hem, "normal-looking," sizes.
Enjoyed the tour of the ship as the backdrop to two excellent watches. Excellent work as always, TGV. Vertex gets my vote, and enough of a vote to go on the collection list. Thank you.
Had a hankering for the Vertex for a while, but it's a little out of my range currently, so I grabbed the Vario 1945 D12. It's gorgeous, very solid, and super accurate. Not a copy of any specific dirty dozen model but their own interpretation of the design. And it's 37mm! I recommend it highly.
Absolutely stellar upload. Thanks for taking the time to make and edit this. I’ve just bought the Vertex, can’t wait to have a look at it in person. I’ve read some opinions expressing their dislike for the price. From what I can see the finish and quality of the M100A looks befitting of a £2.5k watch.
A beautifully and creative video, great videography, music and content. I definitely will check out a Vertex. Another great video and I like your use of the battleship New Jersey as a tableau showcasing these watches.
What a fantastic video again! I discovered Vertex a few months ago and I absolutely love their designs. The Longines reminds me a bit of your Omega CK2292! Love that one as well, but the Vertex is definitely my favourite here. Not a fan of the way Swatch group makes watches at the moment.
I slept aboard the USS NJ at one point as boy. Scouts made for some cool opportunities! I loved it - really amazing ship to see firsthand. Great episode. I may need to snap up that Vertex, really cool watch.
Another great video. You always make inspired content with substance. This is something I truly appreciate, thank you for taking the time and effort to make these videos and inform us.
Looking at the two watches, both are great reissues of military watches. The Longines Heritage Collection watches are all brilliant, and I would definitely go for the Longines in this comparison, it just looks better from a modern viewpoint. Longines is using the back catalogue that they have, and their history is one of the best. Longines was pretty much an overlooked brand for a while, but it's fantastic that it is being recognised as being a great watch making company. The watches that are being reissued by Longines are superb, Longines seem to have managed to get the balance between vintage and modern and I am looking forward to seeing what Longines will release from their back catalogue.
Superb to see you out and about sir. One heck of a ship that. Great history on these watches but looks and price wise combined they just dont do it for me. But what doesn't float my boat can keep a flotilla buoyant, everyone has their own likes. Great content as always and keep these out and about ones coming 👍. Many thanks aa always
Thanks for this. As a military history buff myself your hard work is much appreciated. Dad was in The Pacific and Godfather was in Europe during The War. What a great tour of the New Jersey and and insight to these two watches. For me the Vertex is the ONE! I just don’t like the faux patina and the Vertex has the SPECS.
Didnt get a notification for this video for some reason.. as always, great stuff TGV! I really enjoy military pieces, my favorite is the Hamilton Khaki MK11, another 36mm issued piece.
Vertex all day long. I like Longines as brand generally, I have their fabulous Hydroconquest Ceramic, but on this occasion they came up short. Great video as ever!!!
First off, that intro. Holy shit! What a great job! 🥇🏆🎖️ Secondly, I watched an interview with the owner of Vertex over at Gecko watches. That guy has put thought and care into EVERY aspect of these watches. There is nothing this guy hasn't scrutinized and literally gave his best so that the watch would proudly represent his family business Vertex name. He's just the bomb. He worked his ass off for years to restart his family's company and deserves every penny of support people can give. So, in my opinion, this was no contest.
Thank you Tristano! Mille Grazie! Both are great watches. Watching your movie I have on my wrist my Christopher Ward Sandhurst W10. In my humble opinion this is one of the best value propositions in modern military field watches. Superb case quality, COSC certified movement, 38mm diameter. Great lume, Sapphire glass and 200m water resistance. All this I purchased for $680 from CW. Beats these much higher priced pieces in any department.
Wow so much history here and that battleship sends shivers down my spine! I really do like the look of the Longines. I’m not sure the brand can claw their way back up to where they were but they are having a damn good go through great watches and not hype copies. They have really captured the era in that field Watch and are my preference however Vertex is a brand that has to be respected.
Great video TGV. I’m getting increasingly interested in the Dirty Dozen watches. Can you please tell me what book you featured which describes each of the 12 models?
Great post many thanks.. .. I'm a huge Vertex fan and try to add their releases to my collection whenever poss. IMO their pieces are among the top military watches out there and far and away (due to their provenance) the most authentic. I buy watches that I don't want to sell(!)... But if I did buy with an eye to investment the limited runs of this independently owned watch company wld def be attractive. Anyway fantastic and informative clip many thanks
I've been lusting after a Longines, but I wouldn't go for one of these re-creations, when real vintage pieces are available. Thanks for another great video and to your mysterious friend!
Great review. I've been looking at Hamilton & Timex field watches as I'd like an upgrade from a Lorus Lumibrite, but it's great to see other brands as well. I'm going to take a long decision & I will definitely be going for a brand that has some war stories.
I have the Longines spirit blue dial 42 mm, great watch. I sent my Omega annual Calendar to Moyer's Jewelers in Carmel for service, I mentioned you, they are doing a great job.
I'm not particularly interested in a vertex reissue because I have my late father's original, circa 1944, it's still going strong and keeps excellent time although the winder is almost worn smooth now, it has the www marking on the back along with the serial number but the original strap has long since been replaced with a woven NATO one and luminous markings on the face have lost their glow. Three years ago a jewellery shop owner saw it on my wrist and asked me if I would be prepared to sell it to him, I told him it's history and what it means to me and as far as I'm concerned it's priceless so when I pass away it will go to my grandson who appreciates it's value in family terms.
Thank you so much TGV for another great watch review video! These two time pieces are quite special indeed! When I wear my WWII styled manual wind Timex in 38mm I get very similar historically pleasant feelings when I wear it! The only thing that is different is the Sapphire crystal instead of acrylic crystal from WWII. Great watches and a wonderful review! Stay healthy and well as always! Have a great day! Your watch enthusiast, (Nicholas L) ⏱️⏱️⏱️❤ ❤❤🦖🦖🦖🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Vertex for the win. The Longines really surprised me...what a shame, such a rich history to dip into and to leverage. Longines really didn't make the most of this. Great video as always 👍
I could not agree more, it could have been truly something special. Oh well, hopefully the next Longines will impress me more. Thank you. Best regards, TGV
I agree with you 100% on the Vertex - great execution. And, you have to appreciate the (mostly) volunteers who make those historic warships come alive for us now as floating museums.
Good evening TGV, I'm very excited to see the comparison between the Longines and the Vertex! I've had Longines on my watch list for a long time, great but underrated watch manufacturer. I don't have an exact opinion of Vertex yet, so I'm very excited to hear about your experiences. Best regards, Heiko
That Vertex is so nice. Those 3D shaped numerals are so damn cool. I feel it's a tad overpriced for a Sellita even if it is a top grade. But damn I want one. I actually sent this video to a bunch of mates who aren't really into watches just because it's so well done, and packed full of great shots and history. Love what you do TGV.
I was looking at this Longines and I was surprised to see you reviewed it, very cool review on the battle ship! Vertex is not my style, I like the Longines Heritage Military.
Love your content, for someone as in to cinematography and with many movie posters, I would love to see a video where you delve into your favourite movies 🎥
Another amazing video! Top class ,TGV! I prefer Timor over Vertex (just because of case size). They have the same movement (Timor has Automatic and Handwind versions). Even though it was hard to make the decision. If Vertex release a 37mm I would also add it to my collection (Dirty Dozens are always welcome). Longines Military Heritage has just one issue: no handwind movement. I do like the faux patina and case size. (It is my favourite watch in my collection) You did cover "field" and "pilot" but where is the CWC Royal Navy diver to complete the British military forces collection? Always great to see your videos!

I’m not sure the brand can claw their way back up to where they were but they are having a damn good go through great watches and not hype copies. They have really captured the era in that field Watch and are my preference however Vertex is a brand that has to be respected.
Great video. If you did an episode covering each of the DD we'd be with you all the way. Cheers
Hmmm don't really have much to say this time around just that I enjoyed another great history lesson as always great work and see you next time
Great review. I've been looking at Hamilton & Timex field watches as I'd like an upgrade from a Lorus Lumibrite, but it's great to see other brands as well. I'm going to take a long decision & I will definitely be going for a brand that has some war stories.
I have my grandfathers watch that he wore in Pattons 3rd army from Normandy to Austria
Damn brilliant video mate. Thank you! I’d go for the Longines, but both are fantastic watches.
I want that Vertex in a BAD way. The shots of the lume in the control room are so, so cool.
Three years ago a jewellery shop owner saw it on my wrist and asked me if I would be prepared to sell it to him, I told him it's history and what it means to me and as far as I'm concerned it's priceless so when I pass away it will go to my grandson who appreciates it's value in family terms.
i like the sub second of vertex.
The vertex is a beautiful watch
Great review
Thank you!!!
Best regards,
TGV
Great show. Nice mix of watches and ship! 👏
Your watch enthusiast, (Nicholas L) ⏱️⏱️⏱️❤ ❤❤🦖🦖🦖🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
that vertex looks *chefs kiss*
Stunning pieces and stunning ship! I love the USS New Jersey. Biggest hour i had was singing for vets on the main deck❤
Great review - I do own an M100 (M) manual wind from the original consignment. It is a truly special watch
Great review. Did you end up keeping the M100A?
Vertex for the win. The Longines really surprised me...what a shame, such a rich history to dip into and to leverage. Longines really didn't make the most of this.
Great video as always 👍
I could not agree more, it could have been truly something special. Oh well, hopefully the next Longines will impress me more. Thank you.
Best regards,
TGV
I agree with you 100% on the Vertex - great execution. And, you have to appreciate the (mostly) volunteers who make those historic warships come alive for us now as floating museums.
Great tgv love the historical content keep it up 👍
Thank you my friend, onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
Great video as usual. Your watch content is the best. You’re right Longines has done a good job as of late.
Good evening TGV,
I'm very excited to see the comparison between the Longines and the Vertex!
I've had Longines on my watch list for a long time, great but underrated watch manufacturer.
I don't have an exact opinion of Vertex yet, so I'm very excited to hear about your experiences.
Best regards,
Heiko
Thank you Heiko, I hope you enjoy this one, it did not actually end up as I expected it to.
Best regards,
TGV
Great video to start our early weekend with! 👍
Thank you Javi, have a wonderful weekend. 😎🥂
Best regards,
TGV
I've watched this video over and over again
That Vertex is so nice. Those 3D shaped numerals are so damn cool. I feel it's a tad overpriced for a Sellita even if it is a top grade. But damn I want one.
I actually sent this video to a bunch of mates who aren't really into watches just because it's so well done, and packed full of great shots and history. Love what you do TGV.
Great video! I'd love the Logines without the specks on the dial. The Vertex is also nice but they seem a little pricey. Cheers my friend!
(It is my favourite watch in my collection)
You did cover "field" and "pilot" but where is the CWC Royal Navy diver to complete the British military forces collection?
Always great to see your videos!
