My only niggle is with the red diamond. A bit cartoony, I think and throws off the military vibe. But very happy with the watch. Thanks for another amazing find, Jody.
It's just such a clean implementation of a classic design. I think people underestimate how easy it is to screw up a Dirty Dozen watch - some of those designs have a surprisingly high number of elements to them that all need to get implemented correctly.
I just picked up the 1926 Officers watch from Baltany with the Cushion case. Pretty damn good watch for $200. Screw down crown, manual wind movement, 200M water resistant.
Nice review as always Jody. Baltany do make some cracking watches. I've reviewed quite a few (not this one though) since I discovered them back in early 2021. Great build quality and surprisingly good lume as well.
I absolutely love mine. It's one of my most worn watches. I did swap out the stock strap for a better one, and it looks great with just about every strap I've put on it so far.

The proportions are indeed perfect and pleasant to the eye. The dial is not simple but not complicated either. I think the balance is just right, it has a trying but not too hard kind of vibe. My only niggle is that the sapphire is not domed, otherwise it would look even more special.

Given that we’re having a Baltany love in, take a look at the explorer with the purple ceramic dial. I have one on my wrist now. Absolutely beautiful. Oh yes... I have a San Martin branded watch like this one... pretty sure it's identical other than branding. Honestly, it's one of my favorite watches. Absolutely love it! As you mention, it's hard to find any faults, to be honest. Love that size, love the dial and the glass. Love the bead-blasted case finishing. Just love it. I've had mine the bulk of this year so the honeymoon phase for a very affordable watch should be over but I find myself wearing it at least one day every other week or so. In my opinion, this absolutely BLOWS AWAY the similarly-priced Pagani Daytona homage, though I do like the Tudor-y Pagani 1718 and the Speedy v3 is nicer yet. I still don't understand why the Daytona homage gets so much love. I also have a 40mm 1963 with sapphire and, while I like the heritage and quirkiness and really like looking at it, I'd easily keep the San Martin/Baltany over the sea-Gull. Can't overstate how much I like this uber affordable little watch!
Just picked up this Baltany Dirty Dozen Chrono (Model S5033) in the AliExpress 11-11-2024 Sale for only $110.90 after applying a $16.00 coupon! It's great to see the price on something lower now than it was a year ago! I like to see the seconds (chronograph) hand sweeping all the time. Does this shorten the battery life? If yes, by how much. Thanks for your answers!
Great watch, particularly on the Barton Elite silicone strap. I know it might not be retro authentic, but I think this watch should also be offered in both deep blue and maroon color models. Would work well on matching Barton's imo.
I do not have this watch, but I do have the Baltany dive watch that seems to have some old CWC inspiration, and the thing is so well made. Feels solid, a great piece of sapphire just like here. Seems to me that Baltany has quickly established themselves as a top-tier Ali brand with the likes of San Martin.
I have a Baltany bubble back homage with California dial and am so impressed with it. Needed to swap out the strap as it was a bulky leather NATO but love wearing it
I have had my eyes on this one for some time now. It just looks so clean. I just wish they had a 41-43mm version for my mondo wrists. I haven't found anything similar enough, big enough for me.

For the first time since 2019 I have bought a watch after watching a video Jody! Have been needing an analogue quartz piece in my collection for ages. And the specs and build of this one are too good to pass on for $150.
Great review. The price is really good for what you get. The only concern is the hands on the smaller dials, although when you tilted the watch they showed up pretty well.
The more I look at Baltony the more they are becoming my second favourite brand after Casio. There are half a dozen I have my eye on. Roll on 11/11 the sale..

It is indeed bloody brilliant! I saw this watch almost immediately after it was released and I was interested. When I saw Jody wax lyrical about it, I knew I had to have it. Well, it is now in my collection and I sold a Hamilton Khaki Field to make space in my watch box for it. Jody was not wrong. There's very little to fault with this watch. Hey Jody, Do you have recommendation for a bracelet for this watch?
Looking forward even more to getting mine in early 2023. Looks great on the Barton but my guess is it might be a strap monster which is fine by me with 20mm lugs. I owe you another beer! 🍻
I just brought this watch and very pleased with how it looks and the quality. However I just tried out the timer for the first time and noticed the top dial doesn’t move. Is it supposed to move or just for show.
Citizen do a couple of military chronographs with ecodrive, then if you can find one Pulsar to one based on a military issue, but they are getting hard to find new. For UK same price to buy directly from UK seller but only two years warranty
I bought their W10 field watch last year which stands out in my collection of big boyish Seiko divers and G-Shocks etc, but I've hardly taken it off since. Simple unassuming watch but nice touches everywhere; great lume, NH38, box sapphire, chamfered case edges for Natos to sit better, two positions for each spring bar. Put all that together and it really impresses.
Not usually a fan of this type of watch but even I have to agree with that strap you have, the watch has a real wow factor …might just have to add it to my ever growing buy list
I have to put a Baltany on my list for 2023. I actually think a Seiko mecaquartz is the way to go for a budget chronograph. I have the VK63 in two watches, a Dan Henry 1964 that I went through customs hell to bring it to Turkey from the US and a far cheaper Pagani Mission to Uranus which though cheaper than my Dan Henry, I have to admit, hand on heart, is better built. It's my only Pagani but I like it. I wish the Baltany was 42mm for my wrist, but it's a beauty. That lume is great.
Hey Jody, I love the way you structure your reviews... they would be perfect if you could include some way of comparing the sound i.e. how loud it ticks and how solid the pushers are. I've found a big difference between watches, and it makes a difference to how I view the quality. Just an idea!
I just bought the Citizen Skyhawk (bj7000) as it's getting rare. This is on my radar, along with the Pagani design PD1703 reviewed in an earlier instalment & the spectacular looking Merkur pilot chronograph with bezel & bracelet. All worth a look, all great pilot chronograph watches for the weekend & a bit of work. The Citizen CA7040-85E is worth a review (& a clasp change). Thanks for the weekend content 😇🙏

Great review as always Jody! Baltany absolutely nailed it with these! Such a great looking military style chrono. It was either one of these or a Pagani Design IWC style chronograph homage for me during the 11/11 sale. In the end the cheap and cheerful Pagani got the nod as it was just £65 (and as a big F1 fan the call of the Petronas green colourway was too strong to resist 🏎️😂). I think the Baltany is just a little overpriced as it’s twice the price of the similarly Seiko VK mecaquartz loaded Pagani Design and a Seagull ST1901 loaded chronograph from a company like Sugess for example is only slightly more. Still a cracking looking watch though 😍

Good move changing to silicone or fkm rubber straps. I do the same. Works wonders for all situations.

Love the legibility on this with the bold numerals. I've gone off chronos so hope at some point they make a non-chrono version with the same numerals.

Baltany have some fantastic models, so much so that i have both the quartz and the mechanical 1926.
there is a QC issue, look at the red tip of the chrono, it does not align with the 12 spot when snapped back

Avoid the Pagani at least until V2 where there can correct the subdial labeling.
