- Neil Young performs a cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain" at the Farm Aid concert in Saratoga Springs, NY on September 21, 2013. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Thank you Neil...
Thank you Gordon...
But Bieber is THE best.
@@DowntownCanon I don't belieb you.
❤❤n
Nah..your best was Danko...by a huge gap. Nobody played fiddle, bass and reg guitar like him...Neil cant touch him
RIP Gordon, great song
As Crosby often said Neil is the most talented musician I have ever met. His talent is endless.
There's no mistaking Neil Young's one-of-a-kind voice and he sounds fantastic, as usual. 🤗
He's very good, but no Dylan. Bob's the main man.
@@joekilday3801 Phil Ochs you mean
Joe Bob does a great version also.
@@joekilday3801 🤣🤣
One of the best songwriters and musicians to
ever record in studio and to take the stage and
perform...and a great man to stand up for and
give to worthy causes such as the call to bring
more and much needed love,care,respect,
appreciation,healing and protection for our
amazing, beautiful but now much abused and
polluted planet earth..for all eco-systems,lands,
air and waters and all wildlife...lets all pray for
and do all that we can to help our earth..thank you,Neil

From Bavaria to CANADA: I will love this music till I die!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Gordon Lightfoot is where it’s at!!!!!!!!
Now Gordon Lightfoot has to do Cinnamon Girl! I’d love to hear that!
I can still see Neil and Gord singing at those long ago opening ceremonies of the Calgary winter Olympics...
Gordon Lightfoot...what a legend. Neil does him proud!!! A fellow Canuck :-)
+jonnylag: So nice how Neil has covered Canadian songs in these Farm Aid concerts -- "Four Strong Winds" is another.
when u have a great song , melody and a touching lyric, all you need , is a voice, an acoustic guitar to perform it..........no modern technology required
How effortlessly he makes such wonderful music.
RiP Gord. Neil, long may you run.
Brother Neil is like fine wine-just gets better with age. Thank You Neil! Thank You Gordon!
yes he does Just get better oh I have Loved him sense 1969
Bravo and thank you Neil, Gordon... You guys are the inspiration that keeps me going as a songwriter believing that the songs are our children and make us proud when they stand on their own.
Keep on rocking in the free world, Neil. 👍👍
One great old Canadian sings another
This is beautiful.
Way to go Neil. Awesome version of Gord's classic!!!
This is the anthem of my life. I've travel all over the world and still I long to be in the fields around any airport (not in rain) but on a bright and beautiful day!
For me, no one did this song, better than he! . Thank you Neil for, YOUR, heart of Gold, love and dedication to the music industry!! Can't imagine life without your work 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We thoroughly agree!!!!
It's a matter of opinion. I think Peter, Paul, and Mary did it best. check it out.
Always great to hear someone do a Lightfoot song!
One thing Neil has that most wish they did, he has a song for any feeling or emotion that you might have !! He's a musical Masterpiece !!!
Gordan Lightfoot died today... sad day for music lovers, Canadians and Neil Young.
Priceless memory, Gordan Lightfoot singing this and his other legendary songs,
in an intimate underground (actually under the ground) coffee house, the Riverboat in Yorkville, Toronto, 1964. Joni Mitchell played there a few weeks, later.
This could be another classic hit for Neil.
To quote Robbie: "I think you know this guy...eh?" Few people love Bob or Elvis more than me, but this is my favorite cover of this song. Gotta luv Uncle Neil...
They got it now Robbie...
Gordon Lightfoot. Just the name makes you smile. Thanks Neil.
Such a moving rendition of this great song. I cry every time I listen.
i am on the same planet at the same time with this man. how good is that?
Always grateful. Thanks for guiding people like me through the darkest of times
Wow! Neil rocked it! GL did good letting him sing this heartbreak of a classic. This is so cool 😎 gotta share it with everybody I know......
Simply sublime. He just gets better and better.
Brilliant Neil Young , his talent is amazing , one of the best singers of his time certainly from Canada ... alongside John Denver ......
my favorite old drifter singing a great old tune from my summer days. hats off Neil!.
+Steve Jones Amen! Rest in peace JJ Cale, hail and live long Neil Young!
wow, beautifully done here, the only other time I have ever heard this done was with the king himself,Elvis.he played infrequently thru various tours.most notably Aloha from Hawaii..wonderful sound ..
Unbelievably beautiful! What an Artist! Thank you Neil Young + Mr. Lightfoot.
That was just beautiful Neil, thank you
Gordon Lightfoot is a favorite Canadian troubadour

nice to hear neil sing this old classic. beats the rat pack types any day.
Haven't listened to this song in a long time Neil does it Justis
this song always makes me cry
Thank you, so much for the Calm you bring to my world. 😎😎😎😎
Listening in 2020. So many great covers.
Such an 'Individual',, such a 'Rebel' .... I love that :)
I've never understood how Neil can split his concentration to play two instruments at once. But I suppose that's what a musician is.
It's probably automatic. Like we automatically breath, Neil Young automatically plays two instruments at once lol
Just breathtaking.
As a teen I used to ride my bike 15 miles to see planes land and take off from MKE. I loved the smell of the field grass and the jet exhaust of departig planes. I was truly in heaven.,
hi mike the old gray fergie tractors, and lotsof others run on the same fuel i think ,tvo great smell, brings us back to good old care free days , like neil young
one of the greatest songs ever !
A man who, since the 60s, said what he meant and meant what he said. A hero, 100%!
Brilliant ,humbled to hear this version x
Timeless!........you're the man!
Dear Canada,
Thank you.
Love,
California
Still,awesome :)Thanks Donna
Every time I hear this song, I picture a soldier hunched over in Vietnam wishing he was home..., finally beginning to understand he really has no idea why he's there watching his buddies die..., maybe trying to get over a recent death of his buddy. This is a hauntingly sad song...
Loud and clear beagle...meg young
❤🎉so good 🎉
Wow, beautiful lyrics and this song does touch my soul... Thank you....
Perfect, just perfect.
Wonderful 🎼🎼⭐️⭐️🎶🎶🎶🎶
Beautiful, didn't realize this was a Gordan Lightfoot song, but knew it wasn't Neil written... Thank you commenters and thank you Gordan and thank you Neil!
Mr Young clearly knows his stuff. But for me this classic by G. Lightfood will always be owned by Peter, Paul and Mary.
You should check out Tony Rice's version.
How about Gordon’s version ?
Fantastic!
Most touching cover ever
This kind of song fits Neil so well! With all his personas and sounds, his folksy sounds still are among the best. His soul settles into this kind of song.
Thank you Neil!
He never seems to amaze me I wonder how many songs he has to iñ the vault? Go Neil.
this made me cry
Great version!
Top of my bucket list to see this legend. never be another hurry up and pop over the pond mr young ..
I am in heaven!
Very cool
John
A nice rendition with different chords, of Lightfoot's classic.
For Lightfoot fans who have followed the story, Neil's lead guitarist in Crazy Horse suffered a hand injury over the summer, and Neil cancelled a number of performances including those at two big festivals in Ontario. Lightfoot was asked to step in, and did so, and Neil expressed his appreciation to Lightfoot personally. Last night, Neil performed some songs with a few musicians, but not his full band, and he did some songs solo, including Early Mornin' Rain: just Neil, his guitar and harmonica
only a handful could "step in" for mr young
Marina, thanks for sharing.People are too quick to judge what they know nothing about.✌✌
My favorite guy, I love his music 😍
Wonderful touch of Canadiana.....Neil Young covering Gord Lightfoot's EMR
Nicely done.
I didn't know this song. it's time for Neil Young release a folk album and this song has to be included. It's beautiful!
Neil 7 you're too 😎
Awesome!!!
P.S I'm a huge Neil and Gordon fan just so you know
Neil Young rings the best in life.
nunca me cansare de este ...CANADIENSE....
God, this is a brilliant cover. It's tough to improve on Gord. Bob couldn't do it, and Neil can't either. But their covers are definitely at the level of the Lightfoot original. Been a Neil fan all my life, and he's never ceased to impress.
+Matt Stefon Dylan's version needs to be posted so I can have a listen :)
+Matt Stefon I also love Elvis' version :) One of a kind that is.
This is shit. I love Neil and Gordon, but this is shit. Come on folks - learn what is good and what is not. This is terrible.
Ima SuperPerson To be honest, I liked it when I first heard it, but then I was like meh. It's a good cover, good interpretation, but compared to the original, it is shit indeed. Completely different feel to it, Gordon's version really has that amazing spirit, the music flows, etc. here I can feel nothing, the different chord changes Neil used work terrible in this song... no good.
Sometimes being me (being a "dick") ain't easy. But I'm afraid it was this time. I love Neil, big time. Always have. But this particular version of Gordon's song sucks ass. You know, we - all of us - just need to start calling a spade a spade, or whatever. Honesty never hurt anyone. I thank you for your view. I don't want people to agree with me - I want them to think for themselves, and not blindly follow others. If I can help with that - I feel like maybe my life here has had some purpose. Thanks and best wishes!
Nice cover!!
awesome
great stuff Neil Just seems to be recorded with those stage mics and natural acoustics
Gord said he really likes Elvis's version as his favourite
Brano bellissimo e interpretazione magistrale. E l'armonica favolosa
Brilliant
wow. beautiful.
One of a kind great thanks neil
This is an excellent cover by Neil. Early Morning Rain suits his unique vocals and he adds something fresh with his harmonica.
Two of the many great Canadian singer songwriters.
Leonard, Joni, Stan,...
.. and of course the other Gord-RIP.
ain´t it beautiful? to listen to this geniusses at least that´s what they are for me ....another fan, says so much, brings back memories from the late seventies in my case...having a cold one (one)
wow!
genial, na sua gentil simplicidade, um ser cheio de vida e generosidade
They’re immortal
I still love you
❤❤❤
