Despite his marriages and love affairs, composer Ian Tyson wrote this song for the first love of his life.He was 22 she was 18.They could never seperate their love for each other, yet she could not be his cowboy partner on his ranch in Longview, Alberta. She confessed she was a city girl.He loved being a cowboy.Just before Ian died, December 31, 2022, they were still in touch He on his ra

I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way. Such a youthful expression. When you get older you know you won't be!
Thanks for the great context.
That’s just beautiful man
Thank you. I had no idea. I’ve known this song for decades, but this is news to me!
What a beautiful back story, thank you for sharing it. ☺️
I stand in awe how one man, guitar in hand, can control everything around him. Everything else is dressing.
I don't give a shit if neil is from Canada or USA, I'm Scottish and loved him for over 40 years
Cassy Palmer we do....
Donald Du..Trump is scottish too
Neil dad was Scottish
and so you should Cassy . I am from Edinburgh. Let us move forward and get our independence back . Kick out this fake 'union' .
Neil Diamond has called this the best song ever written.
WOW! That is an amazing compliment,
Young is to folk music what Nelson is to country. Two great artists sharing a stage!
How interesting that this popped up days after Ian Tyson passed away. Great song and sung by Neil......big thumbs up from this Canadian!
Hello So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song.
good on yournice comments.from calgary lover of ians writings.
This is a great canadian tune.
There's just something about this old song, the lyrics, the melody...... it just gives me goose bumps. So hauntingly beautiful.
This is my most favourite song in the whole world -- I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. If I could take just one song with me on a desert island it would be this !!!
jo egleton Yes, me too. Neil’s voice and style carry this song to a special place. This WILL play at my funeral .
Me, too!! When was 12 (back in 1964) my friends and I would gather at our small town "soda fountain"after completing our paper routes. Six songs for a quarter on the juke box, and I'd play Ian and Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds," Roy Orbison's "Oh,Pretty Woman," and the Four Seasons' "Rag Doll" two times each until I ran out of quarters. It still gives me shivers.
Can I come to the island
f d gud tyms r all gone..
then am bound 4 moving on...
@@pauldavidober Of course !
According to my DNA results, I'm sub-Saharan African, Neanderthal, Irish, French and German so I really don't give a hoot where other folks are from, their character, integrity and talent are all that matter to me. These guys tick the boxes.
That's probably true of a lot of people's DNA but sadly some people only identify as coming from one country and that's when the trouble starts.
Enjoy the song. It's beautiful
It’s not about you
Try being British you’re the worlds mongrel, loathed by most and accept it all with either good manners or deep misgiving but why go for the latter for we’re only here once and such entertainment should be enjoyed!
According to my understanding we are all HUMAN BEINGS!
This is for all of us,dying breed of hard workers of the land.
Between Four Strong Winds from the Prairies or Sonny's Dream from the East Coast I don"t know which one brings more of a tear to my eyes. Great Canadian songs and timeless!
Hey, Willie has played this with King Neil countless times and I love the way he doesn't give a shit what bar he's on...and boy, what a pair of gods.
What a beautiful song. I love this by Neil Young and Willie Nelson. Brings back so many memories of times past.
Meaning, "Covered by..." It was composed by Ian Tyson.
@@kristinehatkinson7323: It would’ve been even better if Mr Young could sing on key…gawd….
That's why he's Neil Young -- he don't hafta!
Raised In Alberta, this song rings true. The traditional finally of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. I was blessed to see Mr. Tyson perform. Peace!
We sang this song in my 6th grade choir in '66. ! Neil sang/sings it best! Love this particular version❤
Thank you! 🌼🦋🌈
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU RAY TWELVE STRINGS U.K
Boy, this brought a lot of memories back as a young girl growing up. Love Neil Young!
Must be the best song ever ?
@@rogerjohansen828 In my top five of all time
Even without the wind machine and the blue back light this is stellar. "Think I'll go to Alberta..." My mother was born in the Yukon... they went to Alberta to get a suntan.
Four Strong Winds by Ian and Sylvia Tyson is one Neil's favourites. He played it endlessly on the jukebox back in Canada. It's an amazing, haunting piece of music.
Haunting yes, the all-time most haunting song is by another Canadian, Gordon Lightfoot, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald.
R.I.P., Ian. A masterpiece.
Interesting ... always thought this was one of Neil's ...
I was there. Trust me, they did the song just fine. Very special especially for a Canadian. Niel has done his country proud; a hallmark like the Hudson's Bay and Nelson River. Of course Willie & Trigger never fail and he is always gracious enough to provide backup without thinking of himself. cheers, fellows!
free willie....
Will Towes - you are the luckiest person in the world. Top of my bucket list is to see Neil Young in concert - he is amazing.
Sounds like Neil looks at Willy off mic & says “Four Strong Winds, man, you can play anything!” And yes, Willie can play anything. I love this live version of a great Canadian song.
Neil Young with his passionate, sensitive voice, guitar, and harmonica, AND Willie Nelson with his great, feeling guitar and concentrating, sensitive face, what a combination! What depth they present together. And what a song! No better rendition of "4 Strong Winds" than this!
A haunting song love against a harsh environment. So beautiful.
Great song, many years gone by...always a great song
Ian, I hope you liked this performance of your haunting song. It will live forever -- like all your beautiful work.
Neil is a treasure and so love this testament to his homeland. Time and mortality, probably why I cry when I listen to this song.
Amen! Could listen over and over
Hello So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song.
The theme song for maritimers in they late 70's. Omg. Brings a tear to my eyes
Man i think was goin 2 shed a tear also just like expecting 2 fly will 2 love and wrecking ball. And about ten more songs neil young can really touch ur soul and also goin back off of comes a time there is a clip of neildoin goin back on the human highway movie shit i could talk about neil and his songs 4 daze over and out smh
For me; he's like a friend that keeps you warm and safe. About his voice: like an angel.
Holy hell these guys are gods...they could be playing happy friggin Christmas on banjos and I'd still listen.
Ditto
Proud Canadian
I don't think I can bare a world without Neil Young
Me neither. You know I would just love to hear him team up with Kate and Anna Mcgarigle. It needs to happen
@@zapkvr I wished he teamed up with linda ronstadt.
@@edmundooliver7584 oooooh yeah
I fell in love with Neil’s cover of Four Strong Winds, in 1978, when Comes A Time album came out, such an amazing song, so Canada 🇨🇦 🍁
Could you imagine getting to jam with those two on that song?
This has to be the most iconic video ever!!
Neil at his best.
I generally get songs round & round in my head. Some aren't my favourites, some are. But if I had the choice, this song would be the song that could be the one who sticks in my head forever: Four Strong Winds. I also love Nicolette Larsen.
Neil Young is one of the great and this joined song with Willie Nelson is a beautiful song and great initiative, we need this world wide, we need and love our farmers,
Due grandi artisti che fantastico concerto ❤❤❤❤❤
Met Neil before this show with his son in the stands. Very cool to relive this show!
Love singing and playing by Willie Nelson and Neil Young two so inspiring excellent musicians. Could listen to them two all the time Joerg
I started listening to Ian and Sylvia in 1962 have loved them ever since. This is a great recording by Neil Young and Willie Nelson.
Hello So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song.
Gordon Lightfoot does a great cut of this song. The best cover of it I ever heard though was Tony Rice & his harmonies. I always thought the song to be one of the most soulful ever.
Mon idole de toujours! Que je l'aime lui, eux!
And what could be better than Willie on stage with him….
Awesome. I ADORE this old song.
Jag har aldrig riktigt förstått varför jag gillar den här låten så
men den bär med sej nånting väldigt magiskt
och ofrånkomligt, hela livet igenom. Vacker är den :)
High praise for Ian Tyson. Neil Young, and Willie Nelson. Doesn’t get a whole lot more cowhippy than that!
Would love to have heard Willie sing on this one, but ......
Cow-hippie!
That''s the right word for that strain of music I Love so much.
Willie didn’t know the song and was told by Neil, at the beginning, to play anything….lol
So fucking love Neil Young! Played this record over and over and over when it first came out , till my mother yelled at me to stop!
Thats great i thought i was the only. Who played that album over over again lol
Thank goodness I grew up in this era, it’s moulded me as a now 50 plus person who is happy ❤
Two mighty legends.
Beautiful tune and lyrics, one of many favourites.
My favorite musician! Love Neil Young. Has always been my entire life.
I love this song and this is the first time I heard Neil Young perform it. Amazing.
Wow, you have a whole lot of living to do!
He covers it on comes a time
With Emmy Lou
With Willie and many of the farm aid crew
And himself as well
Worthy to be Canada’s national theme song ey
An awesome Canadian song!
💖SoooPrecious💖💙🙏💙
Thanks for this Neil and willie, it touched my heart
ALMOST 30 YEARS OLD YET GREAT
At the end... the nod and smile by Willie and Neil's smile back said it all...!
You think they had fun together? How can anyone not have fun with Willie?
+YOURmom? nope. NY is completely unaware of Willie. He's in his own world. Doesn't even given him a break.
+Karicat Watts , good grief, we must be watching different videos.
@Karicat Watts what video...
Seeing Willie in concert for the first time when he was 82, I was awed. He put on a great show with Merle Haggard and his family. Their fingers are as nimble as ever, and their voices were surprisingly on key. He is, indeed, a national treasure. What’s more, without the songs he and Dolly Parton have written, where would the world music scene be?
Sung by one of the greats out of gasoline alley neil young has a voice not many could copy great song
love this song
Legend guitarist,singer, love ❤️ ❤️🙏🎵🎶🎼🎸✌️🍀👌
I would have taken my eye out with a fork to have been there. Legends
Was thinking along those same lines, damnit
No one can ever equal Ian and Sylvia Tyson; however, well done.
A Real love to this song and Young's version.
Love this ❤
Love this ❤️
thanks for the great performance
Willie is the best at just 'faking it' almost every time he is on stage at Farm Aid its like that
Four Strong Winds is my favorite of his songs. I'm in love with Neil. 🎶💜
Not his song
My favorite, Heart of gold & 4 strong winds, Neil sing them. True he didn't write 4 strong winds but made it favorite
Just love the harmonising harmonicas. And Neil Young for ever more.
My man (Neil), LOVES this song the same way I LOVE "Harvest". I swear to GOD, if hel stood on stage and rearranged his family jewels or scratched his ass, I'd still scream, holler "I LOVE YOU" and probably faint. I just love this man way too much.
Yes, Willie is gracious and he taught his son to do that too! Sweet sounds with Neil! ✌🏼😎😎😎😎👏🎸🎸🎸🗽🇺🇸
Always and forever we love you Neil Young's songs.
"Maybe you do know it, "Four Strong Winds?" You can play anything!"
Excepcional! Como sempre Neil Young transmite energia Positiva; canta com a alma! The Best!
Two Classics
Perfection
Amo questa canzone! Una grandissima performance! 😍😍😇😇🤩🤩😘😘🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶💘♥️💔💔💯💯💋🌹💋🌹
Järkyttävän mahtavaa .
According to my mother I am Chinese. I'm a school teacher taught Nelson's daughter many years ago in speech. This was an Austin Texas, and time passes quickly now. Willy has done a lot of good work for the farmers.
LOVE🌍
Timeless!
so lovely to find this tonight/a great performance by two amazing men
many versions of this beautiful ballad love the music.
I remember this when neil sang it w nicolette larsen, rip
mr neil young at his very finest.
Ah, but I do know the song. A great one from the past. Thank you Ian.
+Scott Holmes , Neil wrote the song.
Neil did not write Four Strong Winds, Ian Tyson wrote it.
The Ian and Sylvia version was the one a first knew.
Neil wrote it.
Ok , I stand corrected :-)
Old contraire brother Neil! I know this song like the back of my hand. And it still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
Never gets old.
He keeps getting YOUNGer
This song takes me back to midnight at some obscure hotsprings somewhere in the Nevada desert so long ago, so long ago.
🏜
God bless Uncle Neil & Willie !
Who doesn't love these two guys
Just superb
I like Willy's nod at the end, when Neil looks at him. You nailed it Neil!
First I've ever seen Neil with a full beard. Looks better than the famous lamb chops. One of my favourite songs written by Ian Tyson.
Beautiful version. Thx guys. ❤
One of the most beautiful songs..ever……………………...John Denver version..outstanding…..Love..Love..Love
