- Neil Young performs Ian Tyson's "Four Strong Winds" with Willie Nelson and Mickey Raphael at the Farm Aid concert in Louisville, Kentucky on October 1st, 1995. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?
Ian Tyson just passed recently. He composed this beautiful song for the world to love. Thanx Ian. Happy travels.

So sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful song to remember your Mom.
Yes,off course..!
I'm 72 years old now. Oh how I loved and love this song. Thanks. PNG
Hello Rita, how are you doing?
Thank you for reminding me how blessed we actually 😂❤
shed tears listening to this coz fond memories came back to me of early 80s in Manila slums while growing up, surviving crimes and drugs and whatnot. This song was my refuge
Can NEVER be duplicated! Enjoy Neil and Willie ! Time is precious!
I love all his songs. Part of my youth. Now at 75, it brings back those wonderful memories. I got his vinyl.
I was 75 when I commented on this video last year. I agree about all the memories everyone of Neil's songs brings back. Know the history of Four Strong Winds and know his fellow Canadian wrote this song and became the National Song of Canada. I was in San Francisco and Marin Co during Neil's career. I still have the 45 rpm Vinyl of "Heart of Gold".
Wonderful! All the way from South Africa.
Ian Tyson wrote such beautiful songs. Knowing it is time to let go, and not wanting to. What in human life could be sadder? Such a true and touching song.
4 Strong Winds and Don’t Look Back are two of the most melancholy penetrating songs ever. So beautiful and so sad.
For some reason, that song always touches me. Once in a while, mankind reaches another level. It’s usually through music
yep
I lost my beautiful beloved husband and this song just makes me cry. I took a nap and found him on his knees face down in a pillow holding my hand.He was gone. Died holding my hand. Im just broken 💔 and I can't get past this situation. Im just do broken hearted I had to be hospitalized for a syndrome called Broken Heart syndrome. They have a medical term for it but I forget it. I am just broken.
@@susinbailey6125 Susin, so sorry to hear that. I can relate as I lost my wife & best friend in October. Life is different, never to be the same and empty. I hope you have family around you to help ease your pain. I wish I did..I sincerely hope you will be ok.
@@susinbailey6125 So terribly sorry for your loss. Wish I could take the pain away. God bless..

Thank you Ian Tyson, thank you Neil. I was in 8th grade when I learned this song. I'm 69 now. Still love it!
Rick Adesso .just love this song lovely memories it's Still a beautiful song 🎵
I remember it echoing through the dorm halls when I went to college in Canada in the very early 1970s.
Just love the harmonising harmonicas.
I love love this and all Neil Young’s music since the late 60’s and I was still in my teens Now all these years later and in my 70’s. I still can sing along and make my heart feel young and hopeful. Sorry for writing you, just out of curiosity your page come up on my suggested friend lists so I was just wondering if I knew you from somewhere??
I can't begin to explain how quintessentially Canadian that song is. The first time I heard it I was living in SoCal driving somewhere on a freeway, and suddenly I was grabbed by the lyrics and transported with a mad longing in my heart for my home in the true north strong and free.
NEIL has been an all time singer. His golden voice and his music so touching.
RIP Ian Tyson, the writer of this brilliant Canadian anthem.
Yes, so sad to loose this great Canadian song writer and authentic Cowboy!
Great version, also the original Neil version with Nicolete Larson backing vocals off the album Comes a time is great
One of the greatest songs of its genre, reportedly written in less than an hour. When talent and inspiration meet, great things can happen.
@@davesteffin9012 I also like the Judy Collins / Glen Campbell duet, even if they have a little trouble synchronizing words in a couple of spots.
Neil is a gift to our planet . . .
Neil pays tribute to great Canadian cowboy-songwriter Ian Tyson with this deeply felt rendering of Ian’s ballad about young love torn apart by this land’s vast distances.
To Neil and Willie for singing it, to Ian Tyson for writing it.....thank you, thank you, thank you.
Shout out for harmonica player.
Willie sang? I must have missed that.
I guess I’m the only 17 year old Brazilian boy that’s listening to this masterpiece in 2024. Makes me sad to think about it, but unfortunately I think my generation is heading to a wrong path in music. It’s a bummer that most young people won’t have the opportunity to get to know Neil Young’s song. Anyways, congratulations to these musicians, they truly are a blessing to the this world and will always have a special place in my heart.
You are a wise young man. Four Strong Winds comes from around 1965 written by Ian Tyson of Ian & Sylvia a iconic song from the folk music era. I invite you to take a listen to the original version.
@@gcvincent3989 Thank you very much! Yes, I actually do enjoy a lot the original version, not only the song but the whole album “Four Strong Winds” by Ian & Sylvia. There is also Johnny Cash’s version which is incredible as well. Anyway, thank you, it truly motivates me a lot to continue to listen to these songs.
Also nice Tony Rice's version
You're not the only one but you are a very wise young man to explore the old greats in music.....there are so many. I have a 22 year old son who loves Rock and Neil. We are going to see him in May and I can't wait!!!
@@ValerioMansueti There was nothing Tony Rice did bad. Just a incredible musician.
Neil is one of the greatest ever, just sincere as it gets...genuine
Willie knows how to fill in the blanks, man. Delicate without overdoing it eh ❤
The most authentic singer-songwriter. I cried when I heard him at Carnegie Hall in 2014.
Hello Nancy
How are you doing?
Written by fellow Canadian Ian Tyson may he RIP
Yeah, except HE DIDN'T WRITE IT!! And he's NEVER ONCE acknowledged who DID WRITE IT!! The only good thing to come of this guy singing this song is that the royalties paid for Ian Tyson's ranch!
Lovely and I love Willies guitar picking..great as always
Surely a gift from the universe! ❤️🔥 I will always treasure them. 2022 🇨🇦
Gotta love Neil and Willie - if you don't you have no soul.
I love this man Neil Young, his voice never changed
Me too! Just don't love his politics.
It's nice to hear this song again !!!!! Nice music from good talented people too !
Another classic song penned by Ian Tyson.
I'm turning 47 and remembering the days when I was a kid. Thank God, I was raised on a generation with music that makes sense such as this one! My sincere salute to these musicians behind these great compositions!😀

Reminds me when I was in northern Ontario Canada, first time I heard this song. I was in route 400 north of Barrie Ontario Canada.
I was so sad, sick, Lonely and alone. The weather was extreme cold and snowing.

Hello Cheryl, how're you doing, I hope you are doing fine. I'm David from Houston, Texas. Where are you from? You seems like a real Country girl😊🌹
It was the first song that I have learned with its guitar.... during my teeners. I am 60 years old now. And I still sing and strum it if their is an occasion.
Whenever I hear this song I think of home, I realise how much I miss it and wonder if I'll ever feel those four strong winds again.
I had just walked in the room, heard two intro notes and knew it was Neil. Willie is playing Trigger.
Great song and performers!
I've loved this song ever since 8th grade in '69/'70 when our glee club student teacher taught us this song in 3 part harmony and we sang it at our Spring Folk Concert, accompanied on guitar by me and another classmate!

I saw Neil Young live in concert at The Garden State Arts Center. He was all dressed in white and played Southern Man for a half hour. He was awesome. A true iconic talented legend who does it all, he writes, he sings, he plays guitar, harmonica and piano, he produces and so much more.
A buddy taught me this song 40 years ago. It was a regular tune when we jammed on the front porch of his farmhouse. This is the first time I ever heard it outside of that context. Drifting back in time tonight for sure. Thank you.
Music is timeless. And knows no boundaries. It is written on the wind and plays throughout Eternity in this vast Universe we, ourselves, travel.

What a great song ,makes me sad and happy,I enjoy listening to this song.
Neil Young,a true legend his music reminds me of my youth
so lyrical, and still with the voice of a child. He always moves me. Thanks for the post.
Back in those days, when I was happy, I listened to Hey Hey My My. When I was sad, I listened to Southern Man. When the feeling was in between or something else, I listened to Four Strong Winds. It was all over on the radio and in the gathering of teens learning to play the guitar. So I have not really seen NY live. But his songs were the soundtrack of so many lives that had seen so many singers come and go. That's how Good Ole Neil remains in my heart.
Brings back memories
Of good friends that have passed on ,,

I was still living in the US and witnessed "Live-Farm-Aid" in tv, nice, really nice
A great tribute to a song writer when other great musicians want to sing your song! RIP Ian Tyson
January 2020, till now Neil Young's songs rock!! Very nostalgic.
I love how Neil adapted this song. His guitar really adds warmth to a sad song. I liked the Ian & Sylvia version but there was a coldness to it.
A classic that always brings tears in my eyes ...... from a Canadian living abroad !

It was my mother's favourite during his lifetime forty years ago (sometime in 1979). i was only 11 years old that time & still remember she 'd love to listen to this song. In 2018, our superior requested me to play it during his birthday. And still fresh to my mind the chords & the memories of the song. Long lived Neil Young..
What a lovely lovely little tune . Some of musics best is from the heart and just makes it was to the surface without trying . Not necessarily a technically compounding unfathomable wonder that can never be seen .
