I say if it works , use it !!!!! Usually I use the curved ones for inside cutting, that size , short bowl, platter etc. Outside have always used a flat blade and longer strokes . I'm no professional , just my opinion ! Work's for me anyway .

Jay is right, but you do what works for you. You could use a grinder with a wood disc to remove the bark. I've had good luck with that. Just be careful it can kick back.

14.00 Hey Jen, don't store your vanilla on the top shelf of your pantry, the light will come in your stained-glass window and spoil them! lol. Great idea and something I'd never considered, although it seems simple enough... Greetings from Sunny Perth, West Australia. Still followin' along... Frank.

Jen, The common way to use a draw knife is like Jay says. It removes a wider and longer strip of bark when pulled.Typically, the wood is held in place so it doesn't move when you debark it. This allows you to pull harder and longer, thereby removing more bark per pull. A smaller knife would work better for you because it wouldn't be as tiring on your hands and arms as would your bigger one.

Your tool is not a draw knife, they are a flat blade with a bevel.yours is a scope used to dig out chair bottoms and the meat of hand made wooden bowls.

You tube “Kyles Cabin”. A young man building a log cabin in N. Minnesota. He scrapped enough logs to build a cabin. He did it over this winter logs (not limbs) via the method your using. After a few, one gets a method and rhythm and it goes a bit faster.

  • @jimdelong949
