Greetings from Scotland! The high and low voices together is called "Polyphonic Overtone Singing" which Diana has always been able to do naturally! Incredible effect isn't it! Diana sang this in a minor key, so instantly darkening the song, then took just 2 lines from the chorus - and she did THIS with it! It's like a Movie soundtrack!!! ALL this and still only 18yo! Great reaction to a phenomenal singer!

This is a new TV show in Russia, you know. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. He's very impressed. Here are the 9 songs:

They said of their performance: 'Diana has no competition on the show - she amazes with her talent - it's impossible to tear yourself away from her - you want to listen endlessly, they're in tears and they're even afraid to blink' .
8 participants (Diana cannot score herself) gave Diana the highest score (9). She won the first episode... and later won the contest.

At the age of three Diana was found wandering the icy streets near Vladivostok , beaten and alone. She was taken to hospital and immediately operated on for her injuries and a broken collarbone. She did not know where she lived and said she ran away from there because they hurt her. She was taken into care and referred to a therapist to help her with her speech recovery. This story comes from that therapist who ultimately adopted and raised her. Not sure if I remember it right but some version of this story is associated with Diana’s early years. They say her vocal cords are unusually long and I have no idea how early injuries effected her voice. She began singing during her therapy and there are many films of her singing in performances as a child. I have not seen many of these but to my untrained ear, I could not hear the vocal gymnastics she is now able to perform until her early adolescence. She became well known in Russia when she was 14 or 15. It was obvious by then that she was a vocal genius. I am not sure when she performed “Can’t help falling in love” but I would bet it was on the Talent Show which propelled her into international fame, possibly at age 16, 17, 18 ??? They say that she is a Contralto which is lowest female voice in opera. Many have encouraged her to train for opera but she apparently prefers popular song. I cannot vouch that anything I have written is true, I only know she is the most amazing and brilliant singer I have ever heard. I would recommend “Personal Jesus” and “Havana”, “Dance, dance, dance”, “Wicked Game”, and well, anything she has ever sung. I only wish that she would perform in the USA so that we could see her live. Maybe Broadway should stop throwing away money on mediocre plays and dedicate one day a week to showcasing some these amazing new foreign singers to Americans!

Alex & Allen, for your information and those in your audience that don’t know, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, when Diana Ankudinova was just 18 years old, during a vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!" This vocal competition was televised and spanned nine weeks, one episode per week with nine professional singers who were both contestants and judges. These nine judges competed against each other and also award judging points to each other. When Diana was not competing, she was a member of this judging panel.
Each week a different singer took the stage and over the course of the nine weeks they each had to sing nine different songs using different genres and styles. The "ShowMaskGoOn!" concluded on November 20, 2021, and Diana Ankudinova based on points received, was declared the overall winner at the end of the nine weekly programs.
Diana’s cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” shows Diana Ankudinova has developed into what many vocal professionals say is a true contralto. For those that don’t know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto voice is very powerful and very, very rare. First, to answer a common question asked about Diana's vocal range, because vocal range is a major help in defining a female singer's voice type. At age 13 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, 4 years later at age 18, her lower functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5, meaning Diana currently has a vocal range of almost 3 octaves. But, it's not just about how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's in her timbre, the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that helps to further define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice type and is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
How does Diana do it? How can such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is actually producing those low notes to see what is happening within her vocal track, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana’s ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with vocal anatomy that is unique. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than other female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than other female singers. It’s this unique vocal anatomy that gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce low, deep, rich, full sounds, but without actually scoping Diana’s vocal track there is no way to be 100% sure.
Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which again, is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. A singer who has mastered this polyphonic vocal technique can create one, and sometimes two, different tones simultaneously, adding to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. This polyphonic ability is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of electronic voice manipulation or pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice of any kind going on at all. Neither is anyone else singing off stage nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track.
During Diana’s performance, the judge on the top row that stands up first is the well-known Russian tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan who was a special guest judge for this competition. He is married to world-famous soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana’s performance, Diana receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. Another judge, Julia Parshuta, who is also a well-known contemporary Russian singer is the blond woman dressed in red, standing in the center row. She looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance and puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total surprise and disbelief. Julia Parshuta, along with the other judges now knows that at some point, she and all the other judges have to compete against Diana Ankudinova, who is a generational talent. Finally, Diana won this competition.

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human.
First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich.
Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World.
Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below)
When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune.
And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.
