Diana is a natural dramatic contralto. This is the lowest range for a female singer. She is also polyphonic. Roughly, this means that when she sings she often sounds like more than one person singing at once. As you can imagine, the combination is extraordinary. So too is her full range. Truly one of a kind!

This is probably just a technical misunderstanding of what reverb is, but TV shows like this nearly always add reverb to prevent the performances from sounding acoustically dead. Reverb has nothing at all to do with Diana's true polyphonic voice. This performance was shot on the large Mosfilm motion picture soundstage. If they didn't have any reverb on the audio, it would sound really weird. Without reverb, it would sound like Diana was singing in a broom closet. They always add enough reverb to make the sound match the visual environment.

Diana has polyphonic capabilities which I have read, allows her to sing multiple notes at the same time and is a true RARE contralto. Her story is heartbreaking but has a happy ending. As a child whose drug-addicted mother attempted to drown her in the bathtub, then left her in the snow, in the streets of Russia with a broken arm, to fend for herself at the age of 4, she was unable to speak. Her now, foster mom or adoptive mom, took her to speech therapy, which included yodeling and Diana found her voice, the rest is history. She reminds me of the mythical Siren whose singing voice was so hypnotic, it led sailors to their death. FYI Dimashes friend IGOR took her under his wing.
Oh my gosh, that is absolutely horrific. Thank god for her adoptive mom, and that her story turned out the way it did. She’s incredible. I think a siren is a perfect comparison!

You’re absolutely 💯 NOT PUNKED…it’s her vocals. She’s an Incredible Vocalist and she was only 18’ at the time she chose this song in the Show Mask Go On. The JUDGE/SINGER’ who we’re also popular and well known in their COUNTRY. I’ve been a fan for five years now and I’ve seen many first time viewers get freaked out but after awhile you’ll see the enormous control she has over her CONTRALTO dark vocal tone. In fact she recently sang an ARIA OPERA on the MASKED SINGER “Fly on the Wings of Wind” her range has actually improved and she has a five octave vocal. She recently turned twenty and has been performing since she was 5 years old. She’s polyphonic as well, thus several tones at once. Please react to more DIANA. Very well said my friend! Her voice is very, very deep, but somehow is lacking gender: I would say that is neither masculine, nor feminine (when she is singing with a deep belt). That's probably why almost everyone associates her with an alien based on her vocal capabilities. I consider her the Voice of God!
Two singers? No, just one truly great singer with really strong overtones.

Wonderful reaction! Diana is called the "Queen of Goosebumps". This performance was from a Russian show that aired in the fall of 2021, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course of the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.
Another song to listen to: The song is Bopoha (Varona) - The Crow, and is from the same show she was participating in. It is in the category "Pop Hit".
BTW, a "white crow" in Russian is someone who stands out from everyone else, in a positive way.

Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned by her abusive mother at the age 3 and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest is history.
Diana recently finished performing on the Russian version of the Masked Singer Show at the age of 19. On the first five performances, she disguised her voice so the performances didn’t attract much attention and I didn’t know the show existed. But then with the sixth performance, California Dreaming, she dropped the voice disguise and the next morning I knew about it on the other side of the world.

You have just listened to what may be a true contralto. “Diana Ankudinova, A Russian National Treasure” (My opinion), I have been following her for a while. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Wicked Games”, “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. I've heard her sing in Russian, English, French, German, Arabic and Spanish so far. No matter what language it is beautiful.

Great reaction! Diana is the real deal and has been in various competitions in Russia. Listen to her when she was 14 to 16 yo. Wicked Game, Human, Rechenka, Dernier Danse. She always had the low contralto tones and polyphonic ability. She has worked hard to develop her higher tones and now sounds even more skilled. She was 18 yo singing this. I can't wait to hear how she sounds in 5 or 6 years. Read her early life story to really find how how she has succeeded already in life at 20 yo.

Diana moi Princessa . She was about 15 yrs. Old when she sang this song. She is extremely diverse and innovative and has been a singer almost all of her life. Her life story is interesting as well. She would blow your mind with her vocal selections and abilities. I have been followinng this young Russian singer from just about tge time she was discovered on a Russian talent show. She is taking the world by storm. Another singer you might find to be absolutely incredible is Dimash Qudaibergen from Kazakhstan who slays his Russian audiences and has a huge international following. Russia, as a country is known worldwide and through the ages for producing incredible music, musicians and singers along with it's diverse array of dancers. Music is a major preoccupation in all Slavic countries with unmatched talent. Have fun on your musical odysseys ! A friend always !

I felt the same way the first time I heard Diana several months ago. After hearing her cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Games" on another Russian talent show when she was 15, I ignorantly commented that her voice was altered by the recording engineer (or whatever they're called) simply because I couldn't believe that voice was coming "through" a 15 year old's body. Diana was 18 during the above performance and, finally, I'm convinced that she's insanely talented! 💕

I've been following her, Dimash, and Angelina Jordan for about five years. It's really their voices. I found Home Free about the same time.
You must play this on very good speakers w subwoofers to hear the actual expanse of her polyphonics and belted D3 at the end. It will fill every cubic cm of the room and becomes full body immersion in sound.

На этот раз мне снова удалось испытать то самое, уже хорошо всем знакомое ощущение лёгкого озноба в области затылка - в тот момент, когда Диана Анкудинова включается на полную мощность. И в этом мне помогла американская пара - современные искатели острых ощущений в области популярной музыки. Эта пара была похожа в тот момент на пассажиров самолёта, стоящих у открытого люка и готовящихся к прыжку с парашютом. Они ещё не уверены, что этот прыжок состоится; у них уже захватывает дух от высоты и мощного потока воздуха; но вот наступает кульминационный момент - и они как будто летят вниз, выброшенные из этого самолёта звучанием этого невероятного голоса. С парашютом, конечно же, с парашютом. Они благополучно приземлятся и долго будут переводить дух. Но вот это ощущение внезапного попадания в мощный, стремительный поток, которому невозможно сопротивляться, ощущение полёта, от которого захватывает дух - у них останется надолго. Большинство тех, кто это послушал - ещё не раз захотят повторить эти незабываемые ощущения. Это именно то, зачем, по большому счёту, и работает любой настоящий артист: вызвать у вас незабываемые, ни с чем не сравнимые ощущения - и заставить вновь и вновь к ним возвращаться...

Her voice is able to sound like two because she is polyphonic (which is already amazing and gives her voice a "thick" sound) however there are also added choir like voices added as well in the background.

Thank you for an honest and fun reaction. I hope you will listen to more of her music, even if you don't do reaction vids, as you will not be disappointed. But, please let me suggest you take a look back at what she was capable of even at age 14&15 when she competed in "You Are Super", a contest designed for underprivileged children without parents(as she was in an orphanage for a time in the Far East). Her performance of an ancient folk song, "Rechenka", is truly iconic. Thanks again. 👍
