This “Wicked Game” live performance took place during the May 2019 season of a talent show for disadvantaged teens called “You Are Super” Diana competed in and ended up winning this competition. You and your audience may or may not know that Diana Ankudinova 2017 was only 13 years old when she first had her vocal range measured. Her vocal range at that time was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. In 2018 Diana was 14 and again competed in the “You Are Super” competition singing Rechenka, a Russian folk song sung in Russian. It was during this 2018 performance that Diana started to really display the beginning of her low, rich, deep, and resonant sound that would eventually show she is a true contralto voice, and again Diana Ankudinova won this competition. She was 15 years old in 2019 when her live performance of Chris Izaak's classic "Wicked Game", really demonstrated what many vocal professionals believe, Diana Ankudinova is well on her way but not quite there yet to be called a true contralto. Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range which kept her out of the more prestigious vocal academies. It was after several rejections that she decided along with her voice teacher to really concentrate on improving her higher range which can be heard when you listen to her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” the Elvis Presley classic which she recorded live 2 years after Wicked Game at age 18 during another vocal competition called, “TheShowMaskGoOn!”. She was 15 years old in 2019 when her live performance of Chris Izaak's classic "Wicked Game", really demonstrated what many vocal professionals believe, Diana Ankudinova is well on her way but not quite there yet to be called a true contralto.
Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range which kept her out of the more prestigious vocal academies. It was after several rejections that she decided along with her voice teacher to really concentrate on improving her higher range which can be heard when you listen to her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” the Elvis Presley classic which she recorded live 2 years after Wicked Game at age 18 during another vocal competition called, “TheShowMaskGoOn!”.
There are other performances of Diana in vocal competitions, and she also recorded some videos that were done in her home studio that are stripped down without any of the major flash or production value of competitions or concerts. The home-recorded videos of A-Ha's, “Take On Me”, and Camila Cabello's, “Havana”, are 2 examples of what Diana did during the COVID lockdowns and I’m sure you will enjoy them.
