      i think most people that actually understand the system know this isn't the fault of anyone below director or associate director. you guys just clock in and make the changes you're told to make. I also don't think its going to change under matt booty because there's too many that were close to bobby still in supervising positions at IW and demon ware, unless some of them leave in march as well.

    • @boblawblaw6185

      Uhhh, where are the other people you work with namely the people that actually do code the SBMM and multiplayer stuff in COD or at least coordinate with the different studios responsible?? there's nobody in the office lol.
      The Sr Front end dev plays more of the product, got more experience with the finished product than the guys in charge of it like joe cecot.... dass craazy. No wonder the game kinda F'd up.

    Okay, finally a developer who actually tells us 'what he does', rather than just carrying on showing off his daily routine (which quite frankly, no one cares if you wake up at 6, workout at the gym and have morning lattes). Thanks Derick for doing this! It's also nice to put a face to the dev who built and maintains the COD website.

    Very interesting. As a Diablo fan, it's always cool to see how games are made on the other side. I think that gamers do not appreciate enough the hard work required to develop these games. I have a small criticism for your video though : every time I watch a "day in the life" type of video, I like to see when do people wake up, when they start working, how many breaks do they take, how long is their lunch and when do they finish their work day. As an office worker myself in the financial services industry, I like to compare my reality with others. I work from home every day (no mandatory office presence for me) and I typically take a 15 mins break after a focus work session of 1.5 hour and a one hour lunch break at noon, but sometimes (on quiet days) I will take a break every hour because I'm struggling to focus on that specific day. When I have no meeting, I will unplug my laptop and move in a coffee shop for the second half of the afternoon especially when I'm falling asleep or I need to be in a dynamic environment to stay productive (my bedroom is not very dynamic!). These are the types of things I like to compare. I am curious to see the home desk setup of other people working in different industries and how busy they are on a typical day (I agree, this is difficult to show a typical day because it is relative to the period in the year and a storm can blow up in the middle of the day and force us to be in a crisis management situation).
    PS: Very funny to see a game dev working on a MacBook Pro when the games are not compatible for Mac OS. lol
    Still a great video :)

      Solid fundamental foundation in HTML, vanilla CSS, CSS preprocessors, and JS is a GREAT place to start. From there you can go virtually any direction you like, if you're front end focused and want to work at a larger company or enterprise level type of application, then you def can't go wrong with React or Angular. Angular is having a bit of a resurgence/renaissance right now, but if I were you I would start with React and TypeScript!

    During the 'my role' segment, you mentioned that your team covers the main COD website. I guess you won't / can't say much but does the profile section get much attention? I've always found the profile management pages to be very lacking in UX and overall annoying to use. Having said that, the main pages for each new game look great.

      Solid point. We don't. BUT we are in the early stages of a total refactor/redesign of our SSO login and all that and I think the profile section may be a part of that. It's a big project that's in the early stages but that area could be getting much needed love later this year 👏

    • @derickmoncado
      @derickmoncado  5 місяців тому +2

      Thanks dude! Couple of things to snag your first role, have a solid portfolio of a minimum of 3 fully fleshed out projects. Preferably full CRUD style applications. Make them public repos on github and have a solid commit history. React and Angular are great starts if you're looking to get in to a "bigger" tech company. Obviously be as proficient as possible in JavaScript and be able to solve some basic data structure/algorithm style problems, there's plenty of resources online to practice those. And lastly, soft skills, soft skills go a LONG way, especially through the interview process. You definitely don't need to be an expert and know everything. But if you're likable, charismatic, and show eagerness and hunger to grow, you'll be able to snag your fist role with no issues. Senior engineer/hiring managers HATE arrogant developers who think they know it all.

      For dev definitely VScode and GitHub Desktop but a lot of what we so at work is in a tool called CRXDE. It's a bit dated and isn't the best IDE out there but it's what we build our custom components in.

    Yo Derick...its funny how you said that everything you build in the "Hero Section" goes through QA and it gets tested and all that before it goes live...what the hell happen to the entire COD game going through that same process...? On every update this game is broken! I mean like QA did not even play the dang thing or checked the "New Feature" or what ever it is... I am Dev I understand the process and the importance, but 99% of the time and i am speaking for the entire COD Warzone gamming comunity this game is almost all the time broke!

      Brother, I hear youuuu. I have SO many gripes with COD HQ, matchmaking, the menu's UI, the glitchyness, all of it. I play weekly and I see the bugs in real time... But it's hard to say, I know a LOT of QA folks were let go recently during the layoffs and we're still in the midst of this whole Microsoft transition so it's hard to say when things will improve. I know with Season 2 dropping soon they're will likely be a lot of patches but I think deploying some patience (both of us) is our best bet for now 🥲

    sir, can you recomended me how to learn programming and make money with it? thank you

    • @derickmoncado
      @derickmoncado  Місяць тому +1

      Get savvy with the foundational stuff === semantic HTML, vanilla CSS
      Then focus on learning a pre-processor for CSS, I highly recommend Sass (SCSS).
      Then dive in to programming, so vanilla JavaScript fundamentals, no frameworks yet.
      Then build stuff, a simple CRUD app like a task tracker app, or the classic to-do list app is a great place to start, don't worry about making it pretty, just make it function.
      THEN try and rebuild that project again but with a framework, you absolutely cannot go wrong with React although Vue would be another great choice.
      After all this you should be in a really good spot, then focus on learning Git, GitHub, version control, the terminal/command line and how to properly use the browser dev tools then at that point I'd say you're job-ready ✨
