  • I realise it's been a while so thought I'd share an update of what I've been up to in case you are interested. Also, the Pentland Hills are beautiful so I thought while I'm in Edinburgh, it would be nice to take you on a sweaty evening hike!

    It's lovely to see you back again Carrie, and in my home country too. What a beautiful walk you took us on. I'd love to see more vlogs of your life, your boat build, what you eat in a day now that you are no longer constrained by fodmaps, what you do as a trainee dietician, recipes, yoga etc.

    I would love more videos on nutrition for various gut health issues and the mind gut connection. Anything related to changes in diet based on the menstrual cycle would be interesting too. And I’d love to learn more about your experience becoming a dietitian!

    You are going to be a wonderful dietitian! I just signed up for your FODMAP course on Teachable and I love it! You chose just the right things to talk about. It is so helpful.
    I would love to see a boat video! Best of luck as you finish your degree.

    Lovely to see an update from you Carrie. 🥰 Lots of exciting times to come! I can't wait to be able to recommend you as a vegan positive dietitian, you're going to make such a big difference to a lot of people. 🌟

    Hey Carrie. Have you ever discussed SIBO in your course work or channel? Huge topic right there. I did many Low FODMAP cycles over the years, and did my best to follow your course but Low FODMAP eventually stopped working to reduce my bloating and other IBS symptoms. I took a hydrogen methane breath test and had a positive reading for SIBO. After removing starchy vegetables / carbs from my diet for two days my bloating started vanishing like it used to with the Low FODMAP diet alone. Turns out the critters in my small intestines were feasting on starches, not just FODMAPs. I think it's an important condition that many practitioners won't go near. There are many effective herbal treatments for this and other gut conditions. The term "IBS" will eventually be obsoleted by diagnoses of the actual underlying conditions causing the syndrome.

    I would love more little vlogs like this! It's really lovely to see you again and I've missed your videos. If you could do a mix of low fodmap recipes and regular recipes that would be awesome too.

    Really enjoyed the hike and can't wait to see the boat! Literally a bucket list dream to live on one 15 years from now when our kids are grown and we are retired and able to travel full time. Did long distance for a year and totally agree, not fun! Glad to hear you won't have to do that much longer. :)

      When we were first getting the boat Blacked we were out of the water next to a recently retired couple from South Africa who had literally sold their house to go on a narrow adventure 💗 maybe you could go on some boat holidays with the kids in the meantime?

    I would love more yoga classes! And recipes 🥰 and maybe an entire video about the mirena, I had one too and it was one of the worst experiences of my life

      The same as you, hair loss and I also completely lost my sex drive and became super irritable and bloated and my entire body was covered in rashes, and like debilitating fatigue, much more. I think the worst part was that I made 3 separate appointments to get it removed at my doctors office but each time my OBGYN convinced me that it wasn’t the mirena causing these problems and it was just because I was “aging.” i was only 25 years old. It was so deceptive and manipulative and looking back I don't understand why she wanted me to keep it in so badly. Anyway I think its so important for women to talk openly about this issue amongst ourselves because when i was going through it i thought i was going crazy

    Hi, two stupid questions
    1) How did you get back to eating high fodmap? Is that doable?
    2) What do you do on a boat on a stormy night?

    • @CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
      @CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject  2 роки тому +1

      Not stupid questions at all 😁 1. Gradually. I have a video I made about it here ua-cam.com/video/ZH0D6scSh_E/v-deo.html
      2. Because the canals are closed off they're quite still in stormy weather. And the boats are low and long so when you lay flat with length ways you won't move too much. That being said, I've not experienced it yet 😅

    Really enjoyed the video! I would loove to have some more contet about fructosemalabsorption as a vegan. It's hard to find recipes and most people just say that it's not possible to be vegan and only eat very limited fructose/fructan. And welcome "back"

    • @lukeallison88
      @lukeallison88 Рік тому

      Fructose malabsorption can also be a positive reading for SIBO. If positive, there's a chance that if you treat the SIBO, the body stops reacting to fructose.

    Thanks for the video! Congratulations on your training you'll make a great dietitian. I saw a dietician a few years ago and they insisted I needed to introduce eggs & fish to my diet (ideally stop being vegan) so I wish I had a vegan dietitian then! ❤️

    • @CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
      @CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject  2 роки тому +2

      That's so bad! Or at least kinda lazy of them. Hopefully there's more training on these kind of things now so it happens less

      Personally veganism has resulted in half a decade of struggling for me. When your body doesn't tolerate legumes, gluten or protein powder you end up protein deficient. I'm still trying for ethical reasons but I believe veganism isn't for everybody and I can understand why a dietician would suggest adding animal products. Meat is the most hypoallergenic food there is. Eggs on the other hand can be problematic thanks to how vaccines are made.

    How much do you think vagus nerve and trauma plays role in Ibs ?

  • @jake62593
    @jake62593 Рік тому

    Hi Carrie, have you talked anywhere else about how you were eventually able to reintroduce so many high-FODMAP foods? I've personally never had much success with reintroduction.

    • @jake62593
      @jake62593 Рік тому

      Just found your "How I eat 3 years later" video. I'd definitely be interested for a more detailed video on how you accomplished reintroduction and how long it took to adapt to different foods. Were there some foods that caused symptoms at first but you were gradually able to adapt to those foods over time?

    Howdy, thanks for all the videos. I just wondered if you have ever tested positive for SIBO, parasites or bacterial overgrowth in the gut ? Sorry if you covered this in another video :)

      I just asked her about this and then saw this comment. I get the feeling she's in the camp of not taking SIBO / gut permeability / dysbiosis seriously due to her strict focus on the term IBS without ever discussing underlying causes. It took me a long time to realize that 3 phase double blind placebo trials of pharmaceutical drugs is only one piece of the puzzle for healthcare.
