Back in the day, we were about to leave for a high school recreational trip, numerous buses waiting to leave, this was playing on the radio and the one student a big guy was telling all of us how much he loved this song, saying "I really, really love this song, Massachussetts" I can still picture that day.
And they did it well! Just for example, listen to Too Much Heaven on a good sound system. Amazing! Leo Sayer sang high with less than stellar results, but the Bee Gees made it theirs. Such great singing talent!
Grew up with these guys, Robin's Vibrato drew me in almost immediately ive watched him grow and his voice just got better and better, i adored him back then and still love listening today 2023❤❤❤
I grew up in the 70's listening to the Bee Gees music...I think I was around 10 maybe when I heard How can you mend a broken heart and the list goes on...To Love Somebody,Run To You etc...then Night Fever...the brothers Gibb music mesmerized me and I was captivated by their talents...the years went on and I still listen to the Bee Gees...5 decades of beautiful music...forever in my heart...
To think, they didn't want to record it themselves, but give it away! 😆 It wasn't my favourite songs of them either, at the time. I found it too mellow...not as passionate & romantic or evocative as their previous works.
That's a nice change from most comments, that usually favour Robins voice. Do you really mean Barry - or do you have him mixed up with Robin who does most of the lead on this song. l personally acknowledge Robins unique voice, but value equally, the way Barry uses his voice to interpret his lyrics.
Barry does have a unique, and amazing voice! But the one leading on THIS song is Robin. Barry’s the gorgeous one, with swagger, and white boots, off to the left. I love me some Barry.
+Lynda Ma. It's true, Mo was an average base player. Mo was replaced by session musicians who possessed much greater technical skill than Mo. I actually loved Mo's base playing and have always wished he would have continued. His base playing gave the band a real live feel as opposed to the sterile sound from Barry and Albhy's preferred session players. The shit hit the fan on LE album. It was the Barry/Karlby team vs the Gibb Twins. Mo, on all instruments was average at best. Do you really think Mo was a better lead guitarist than Vince or Alan. Do you really believe Mo was a better base player than Chocolate Perry and the bass player that played on their latter records and live performances. As much as I love Mo and the Bee Gees, I can be objective. Like I've said, I liked Mo's playing better than the sterile manufactured session players, but that doesn't negate the fact that the sessions players were so much more advanced. Two of Mo's best bass lines, at least to me are Joke and Robin's M&J. I certainly do not subscribe to the notion that either Barry and/or Robin carried Mo. Mo didn't ride anyone's coat tails. They all had their own talents, this is why they worked best together. They knew this and have stated it.
I would like to know when and where was this performance of the Bee Gees. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Who not a "Massachusetts" in memory? Thank you!
+M Lucia ODS l have just read on other posts that this is their first time on USA TV, on a program called 'Hollywood Palace'. Don't you love the compares appreciation of their song writing - so early in their career.
+M Lucia ODS it was in 1967 i believe @ the Hollywood Palace. there was a weekly variety show that ran from 1964-1967 which scheduled entertainers, etc. enjoy.
This episode of ABC's The Hollywood Palace was broadcast November 23, 1968 from the Hollywood Playhouse theater (now Avalon Hollywood) in Los Angeles. Given the production constraints of the time, it would have been produced not more than two weeks before broadcast.
The Bee Gees recorded this song in both Central Sounds in Denmark St aka Tin Pan Alley London as well as Abbey Rd London 50 years ago. Number 9 Denmark St instead of being made into a museum of the old studio, which was intact as the two rooms til 2018, is now redeveloped in to luxury flats. More here ..
Those were the days . Amazing harmonies. Watching this makes me realize how old I am .
Sorry, me too 😧😉

Being originally from Massachusetts, I always listen to this song in my car when driving back there to visit relatives and old friends
Back in the day, we were about to leave for a high school recreational trip, numerous buses waiting to leave, this was playing on the radio and the one student a big guy was telling all of us how much he loved this song, saying "I really, really love this song, Massachussetts" I can still picture that day.
Love this song.
Big mood would be driving an old 60s/70s car listening to this on the radio
The BeeGees are the one band that I love...always!
Because of this very popular song by the Bee Gees , something's telling me to go and visit Massachusetts !! Lol...

@@isaiasjosedeoliveira1758 Noch nie gehört-wo ein Anfang ist,ist bekanntlich auch ein Ende🤷
It's hard to believe that one decade later the Bee Gees would be singing higher.
Doug Shoemaker What???
And they did it well! Just for example, listen to Too Much Heaven on a good sound system. Amazing! Leo Sayer sang high with less than stellar results, but the Bee Gees made it theirs. Such great singing talent!
Robin's voice melts my heart !!

So bloody good!! Love this song
Fan since 1967. I will love them forever and ever! 💕🎶💕🎶💕🎶
I myself think this song was one of the best they had. The Reverb and echo and the way they chimed up and down was great....
To think, they didn't want to record it themselves, but give it away! 😆 It wasn't my favourite songs of them either, at the time. I found it too mellow...not as passionate & romantic or evocative as their previous works.
Best they had ever heard of to love somebody and words?
Try listening to, "Too Much Heaven" by the Bee Gees.
It is a WINNER !

All individual, Love Maurice in that white suit, Robin's voice, and Barry's swagger....ummm
Those 3 guys were the complete package !
Swagger’s a good word to describe what Barry has.
I was probably watching this night. Watched the Hollywood Palace Show a lot because they had all the hot young English performers on it. Loved Robin!
eu tinha 9 anos quando tocava essa música eu acho ela lindaaa
I love this song (and all their '60s ballads) because I'm from Boston!
Forever Bee Gees!
Barry had one of the most unique voices I have ever heard.

Com certeza O grande
This should be Massachusetts' state song.
Rien à dire c'est sublime 😍😍👍
Great Bass Playing from Maurice!
He's got the right bass for the job - a RIC 4000. Such a sweet sound.
+slant40 HE IS JUST AN AVERAGE BASS PLAYER AT BEST. HE RODE ON THE COAT TAILS OF ROBIN AND BARRY. HE WAS GIBB, THATS ENOUGH. RIP MAURICE AND ROBIN
+7chill777 you are so wrong.. sorry.. you must not know much about the Bee Gees!
Bullshit - and very ignorant comment.
