- The Patek Philippe 5124 has been an obsession for years. I like the pre-silicon models with the Geneva Seal, but I’ve yet to get one … yet still an obsession.

Yes a great watch. Had one 18 years ago. Sold it though. Really nice ! temperamental though !!! Had to go service every year. Just stopped all the time.
Nice video mate 🥃
Thanks Tim! Take care, Bill
That 5098 is gorgeous! I especially like the rose gold version.
It is a special watch... probably would choose it over a 5124 Lex. Take care, Bill
Thanks Bill. I didn't know about the 5098 🤩 I probably have a similar story about the Zenith Captain Winsor Rhodium Dial
Hey Shadow, it's part of the hobby I guess ... or obsession! Take care, Bill
Interesting Bill. Given the cash, I would probably buy a PP Ellipse. These days, it may not be the most popular of choices, but I now regret selling a 1980 Omega De-Ville that, although obviously much cheaper, was of a similar design.
Hi Tuna, the PP Ellipse is more interesting than a lot of people realize. The 'Golden Ellipse' is based on the 'Golden ratio..." Take care, Bill
The Gerald Genta inspired Golden Ellipse 5738R is sleek but with a closed case back hiding the 240 micro rotor movement and the Spiromax silicon hairspring is a shame, and the price..
The Aegler-Borer family movement for the Cellini Prince I think is a gem and the Kalpa Hebdomadaire which has eluded me twice.
So many have slipped away from me Truman too ... but some have slipped to me! Works out in the end. Take care, Bill
Good Morning Bill
I really like your Chanel it's one of my favorite in your collection .
Hey JJ, thanks man! Take care, Bill
Knowing from experience, this is a beautiful watch! It wears on the wrist incredibly well!
That's always been my thought Michael, but something else seems always to beckon me elsewhere. You know how it can be! Take care, Bill
We had all 3 in November at Christie’s! Please stop by next time to try them on! They all have a slightly concave caseback which helps them feel nice and comfortable on the wrist
Thanks Henry! Is this the Christie's in NYC? Take care, Bill
@@watchartsci Yes! We have 2 more 5098’s in rose gold and platinum coming up for auction in June
I have a few watches that I had to have that I very rarely wear. I wish back then I was as cautious as you, realizing that something is holding you back although you may not know what that something is. The Gondolo 5098 is more my speed, different case design and numerals.
Best regards, Brian
Same here Brian... that 5098 may bump the 5124 for me too. Take care, Bill
Great one Bill, I think the case shape of the Gondolo is pretty cool, and it is an underrated watch.
Now it's both underrated and discontinued, Abdul! Take care, Bill
Mmm, that salmon dial in WG is a stunner, something I would've wanted too!
The obsession I have is a JLC Master Chronograph 1538420 (discontinued). I didn't have enough money when I first saw it, but now I do, it's discontinued! 😭
Gilberto... most of my favorite watches were discontinued when I wanted it. Save money that way! Take care, Bill
I have my Grandfather's 1965 Longines that has the 370 rectangular shaped movement in a 14k round case by whittnauer.
Hey William, Longines has any wonderful surprises I've learned! Take care, Bill
You have a plan. Then gets distracted by a good deal. Yup, sounds familiar to me too.
That's exactly right Josie! Take care, Bill
I believe the Cellini Prince is also the only movement Rolex has ever featured with an open caseback, it's very nicely decorated and has cool finger bridges. Am also a big fan of the Gondolo (and the story that goes along with it!)
Everything about it is what Rolex could be doing more of. I wish they would Koji! Take care, Bill
The 5098 is wonderful but so large. I hugely admire the design- more Art Nouveau than the Art Deco of the 5124. It measures almost 50mm tall which is too large for its refined turn of the century design. A crying shame.
Yes, Raphael ... very much an Art Nouveau. I like it. I saw one for $10k, but it may have been for a starting price for an auction. Take care, Bill
It’s a great pick, I’m sure it will only make your collection even better if you decide to get it.
Thanks Javi! Take care, Bill
Sounds very much like my experience with H Moser Bill. For 3-4 years I’ve always been on the lookout for an H Moser, but somehow I’ve always used my Moser funds to acquire another watch, and with all the Moser bargains long since past I wonder whether or not I’ll ever add one to my collection.
It can happen with any watch Jeff! Take care, Bill
The gondolo 5200 with 8 day power reserve, day and date indicator is gorgeous. But oof, it is pricey. You can nearly get an annual calendar Patek (pre owned) at the same price!
Hey Wristful ... happens to us all! So many watches ... so little money! Take care, Bill
I have the 5111R as you know bill. I don't think too much about the shape of the movement since it has a solid caseback. It is a beautiful watch though and a lovely smooth manual wind. The exhibition back and shaped movement is definately a plus though., but the Calatrava I have with the ehibition back kind of forfills that desire for me.
The one you have is gorgeous, Daveyboyz! When I saw it, it wholly changed my mind about the style case. It's a great buy for anyone wanting to get into high horology and high quality. Take care, Bill
I like the Geneva seal better. It is much better to be tested by a third party.
I agree Eugene. Patek makes good watches, but the Geneva Seal Foundation does not accept watches with silicon hairsprings. Take care, Bill
I have a watch like that, made locally in my country. They are generally out of stock for that piece and I wistfullly see other people post its wrist shots on reddit and other forums... But the three times it's been available I have picked up other models in its stead, only to go back to wanting it again as soon as it's not available anymore. I don't know why I just cannot pull the trigger on it, even though I am a hundred percent certain that I will own it someday.
You and I have the same experience...but still having fun, Tosh! Take care, Bill
Try out the 5109 Gondolo series with 215 PS. Since their is no display back, lack of shaped movement is not as prevalent. The 5109P has a very unique dial from the rest of the series; but, all are excellent.
Will check it out Adam! Take care, Bill
Breguet... I've always wanted a Breguet. But the ones without silicon are just too small. I wish they hadn't made the switch. It's a brand I want to love but can't.
I'm with you on that Paul. Take care, Bill
Hi Bill, your views on the gondolo annual calendar 5135 series, all Geneva seal pre 2009, quite big is size 39x51mm
Hi Eddie. I do like that model, but the lowest price was around $26k-steep for me. However, I do like it. Take care, Bill
Thanks Bill, the reason for question was that there is 5135 in white gold, Geneva seal, in good nick, no papers though, from a dealer that I bought my reverso few years baa k, for around 21k, solid seller, knows the CITES and tax, shipping issues to avoid, a modern day Calatrava is around 20k, pull trigger or not
@@eddiedevonrex2308 It's a good looking watch, and $21k is 5k under the best deal I saw. If that's what you want, it sounds good to me. Good hunting! Bill
Thanks Bill, the only thing keeping me a bit hesitant is lack of paperwork or archives, I could get that anyway, stay warm
@@eddiedevonrex2308 You're right Eddie, you can write to Patek and get your 'Archives'-I did that for my Calatrava, and when I sold it, the buyer got the paperwork I got from Patek.
Of course the nonsense makes sense.
Isn’t it something like John Lennon said about life and plans?
Yes, Arent... John probably did mention it. You want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans! Take care, Bill
Hi Bill, Do you have an email address please?
