I’m curious can anyone with a collection go on this series or do you need a collection costing a house? Like will they ever interview a collector with a $1k collection.
Maybe the theme did not come across clearly, but the idea was to show how my collection was focused on Patek in the earlier years and has now expanded to independents and other highly regarded watches.
That is a great collector. He describes each watch with a short, great story. Doesn’t go on and on, and doesn’t say the obvious, but comes with a short, interesting story and then stops. Perfect balance for the audience, and great to see the width of his collection.

@@bartsplaylists yes, I do. I have many other watches in the collection. I brought 18 with me from the vault. The final seven used were selected just 10 minutes before shooting.
1:39 My beloved watch was stolen (!) and after 30 years I found the same model and rebought it! (amazing story!!) 2:08 Reaction: 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗I’m glad you were able to purchase one😴
Given the interview was unscripted, I incorrectly said 30 years (how long I have been collecting) when it is much less (more like 12). That said, I stayed up until 4am to participate in a Hong Kong auction to acquire a this piece (which was new and unsealed) back for my collection. It was worth staying up for!

Great guy. Love his collection. Unfortunately, Brian comes off like he is reading from a script and lacks emotion and the ability to have an actual human conversation. Bring back Tim, please.
Brian does have a great persona and character. We had a lot of fun doing this interview. From my perspective he also seems to have a photographic memory on the details of almost any watch we talk about. He is incredibly knowledgeable. I brought 30 watches, we picked seven together just before shooting. No script, no preparation.
Great video and nice to see a collector who is a student of the hobby. While he definitely has a few “trendy pieces” that we all would love to have, his collection doesn’t seem to be driven by external validation but rather his own interest in subtle nuances of the pieces.
Thank you. Each watch needs to speak to me in its own unique way. And each piece has a story, even a "hype" watch. And the stories have more to discuss than we were able to allocate the time for in this discussion.
Great collection and video! This guy clearly buys what *he* likes, which is exactly how it should be done. The star for me is that Patek tank, which I have never seen before. Absolutely stunning.
I accidentally misspoke and said I found another one 30 years later, it was closer to 12 (confused the years for how long I have been collecting given we did this in one take). Still today, one of my favorite pieces. And I hope Patek goes pack to producing similar men’s alternative shaped watches.
@@michaelkalb2896 Once you become a client of Patek, does that help you obtain more timepieces from them in the future? I'm curious as to why those with the means may choose to go with a private dealer rather than Patek. Beautiful collection. Thank you.
@@tbprofile1295 When I first started collecting, the AD relationship "game" was much different than what it is today. Back then, watches were plenty available and many purchasable at retail at discounts. Early purchases were made through Govberg, and been with them since for retail purchases.
I just really like this guy which in turn makes me really like his collection. Anyone else watch a collectors video and simply do not like the collector? If the collector sucks than their collection by default sucks lol. This guy here is aces. Just happy to be a collector. These are the guys I love watching and talking to.
I think he's in private equity so I'm not sure I can root for his watch collection...probably built off of buying up starter-home family housing stock, skimming high fees off retirement pensions, and leveraged buyouts.
Wonderful interview, Michael. I can tell you got your heart in your watches. Great storytelling.

Many houses worth not just one. haha
get real kevin
I get your point but seeing a bunch of watches you can look at in your local mall at anytime isn’t very exciting
round of applause for no Rolex in the bunch. golf claps👏
not a private equity fan
Ben, I understand where your coming from. That was my prior life. Today, being an entrepreneur is much more rewarding!
Wheres tim?
Tim won't interview private equity
Best of the collector series yet...please have him back after his new pieces arrive!
Thank you.
Fantastic interview guys. Michael has a superb and very individual collection.
Thank you. It was not easy deciding which seven watches to focus on!
A very honest and thoughtful collection. Congratulations Michael!!
Thank you!
Did not like any of these watches
WatchBox >>>> Hodinkee
Simply amazing watches for a fussy collector., that was sick!
Have we reached peak Patek yet? Every goddam collectors video these days includes the obligatory Patek (WatchBox and others…)

So happy Watchbox was able to interview Philip Seymour Hoffman before he died.
great video, and awesome to see a collector who uses their timepieces and it's evident by all the minor scratches here and there... bravo 👏
Why collect if they just sit and “collect” dust? 😂
Yeah he definitely don’t give a f* and ruin watches left right and centre 😂

No mechanical problems with the Zeitwerk Michael ?
Great collection and discussion
This guy is ready to step up to Rolex.
While I only have one in my collection at this point, I absolutely love my blue dial white gold Rolex GMT II with its caliber 3285 movement.

Who buys a watch for their grandfather to wear?
Lol, I was referring to collecting vintage watches. My focus is on contemporary watches. Hope that clarifies it!
@@michaelkalb2896 It certainly does clarify it haha cheers!
Whilst I fully respect Tim, it is actually Brian whom I find to be the most interesting host of all at Watchbox
Mclovin?
It’s rare you see a collector this good at collecting.
Thank you. I let my passion lead the way.
1:47 purchased the Patek in 2007, stolen in 2009, found another one 30 years later?
Apologies, we did this in one take, and clearly got the years confused with how long I have been collecting.

We won't get into Bell and Ross... lol! Great video. These are my favorite series you guys do. Keep it up!
I apologize, I did not mean any disrespect for Bell & Ross. As an instrument rated pilot, their design ethos have a unique place in the watch market.

where's the mudmaster?
Great mix of watches.

The size of Moser date windows seems to defy physics.
The scratches prove it.
Imagine a zeitwerk date with a striking time complication.
Enjoy ALL WatchBox content, especially the collector conversations!
This man is a true collector. Loving his taste in for left field Pateks. And of course his tastes in FPJs
nice collection!
