I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard Smashing Pumpkins referred to as grunge. Me in 1993 would have been aghast to hear such a thing. Me today just wishes I could go back and listen to Siamese Dream for the first time again.
Check out Australian Band called Silverchair They have some of the best Drop D riffs of all time. They started off as a Nirvana Imitation in some ways. They won a Radio Contest while still in Highschool. Their First album is Frogstomp. Definitely check them out for Drop D riffs. I dont know how well they are known Globally but they kick arse. I'd start with songs like Freak, Madman, Israels Son, Pure Massacre, Leave me out All have great Drop D riffs.
That even flow riff is something else man, when I first heard it on gh3 i was like “who is this band?!?” (I was 11 at the time) I started listening to some more pearl jam and ever since then they have been my favorite, it’s just such an amazing riff.
I always really struggle with playing pumpkin songs because they love to throw mutes and stuff into their riffs and my coordination with the strings and fretboard are NOT good enough for that yet lol. Love your content! Keep it up!
Really cool shit dude, they all sound sus af on my acoustic guitar though lol. Quick question, are you double tracking all of these or is that a light delay with a pan?
@@jamesdean9781the videos great but they are not wrong. Watch it again and you will see. Im not complaining but it's seems a weird thing to argue about when you can prove it to yourself prettt easily.
All were very Grungy except for Nirvana. Nirvana had the grunge look but sounded way more punk and Cobain wrote some of the punkiest guitar riffs out there
Some of them i wouldnt call iconic, like the nirvana riff and the AIC riff. Definitely not there iconic riffs but they are some of my favorite riffs by those bands. Smells like teen spirit is nirvanas most iconic and i cant stand it. AIC has alot of iconic riffs, just not the one you picked. Still an amazing riff though
Pearl Jam is "grunge" mostly because they were in Seattle in the early '90s. Otherwise, kinda bullshit tbh. Actually, grunge as a label is pretty stupid in general, but especially in the case of PJ.
Am I the only one who can’t listen to Pearl Jam anymore? Every other band for the most part still bangs, but when I hear Eddie Vedder’s vocals I sigh disappointment and skip. It’s just not good
That "We die young" riff is some of the heaviest grunge stuff I've ever heard
It’s my fav Alice song
Then you gotta listen to them bones😅
Listen to their later albums, the 1995 one has some MUCH heavier stuff
@@wackydoodlerobertson I have mate
listen to stone
Thank you for including an unpopular but amazing nirvana riff
Best nirvana sont
Outshined was the first riff I ever learned.. On acoustic
Funny enough one of the first songs I learned was Fell On Black Days also on acoustic. Soundgarden is such a good band
@@leanfish209 like both of you, Outshined and Fell On Black Days were some my first songs

Silverchair is an amazing band!
stoned and madman are great
I'll check them out Tomorrow
Israel’s Son is too good.
Outshined literally makes me feel like I'm fucking on fire when i play it, its such a hard riff!😅 (hard as in metal)
The last one was the best for me
Ayyy radio friendly unit shifter 🥳
Bro you’ve put me on to some great songs! Keep it up and you’ll be famous
Same here bro
Do 5 iconic power metal riffs

i love the content my dude. You've given me at least a dozen songs to learn from these shorts.
Love how you made radio friendly unit shifter look easy 😂

I'm curious if you can play the solo in "I don't want to be me " by type o negative
it's in baritone tuning but maybe
he's already posted a video of him playing it

Yes
Very good👍
Its epic
If you change your font to Lucida console or Courier new, then your dashes will match up perfectly
4. Road Rash!
the tab on radio friendly unit shifter is inaccurate. it shows to play 0-1-0-1-0 on the low E but youre playing 0-2-0-2-0
You’re wrong. Maybe get out of here and go wrongly accuse people of things on other videos 😂 my man here doesn’t need that bs

Israel’s Son by Silverchair has one of the hardest riffs ever. I suggest anyone reading this check it out.
If I'm not mistaken, there are 2 differently tuned guitars in even flow: Drop D and Open G
🖤🖤🖤🖤
Smashing Pumpkins(from Chicago) may not be part of the Seattle scene but they are still grunge to me

No spoonman? C'mon
I don’t think that the Smashing Pumpkins were considered as a grunge band

Looks like the tab for nirvana was wrong or you played it wrong, I dunno..

This is like watching dave mustaine begrudgingly play riffs he hates. Smile dude.
Pearl jam and Nirvana are the only two of these groups i would consider grundge
Soundgarden too!
I think only one of these was iconic.
