In the Curse of Osiris discussion another point to bring up is price per promise. Curse of Osiris was promised to be a standard DLC and priced as one, where seasons/episodes are promised as smaller stories and being priced much less.
This. I think the major change is that we know what the range is for a mid year content drop and more accurately compare those older dlcs to seasons or episodes rather than major expansions. If we got something warmind level and it was priced like an episode, that'd be better than an episode imo
It's alright, we'll circle back to this discussion when the inevitable outrage comes and Frontiers drops, it'll be $100+ for year of Destiny, DLCs are $50 each, and we realize there's even way *less* content than what we had for a year's worth of Destiny and people will be rightfully annoyed that a minimal QOL fixes of something that would've been nice 10 years ago hyped as a big expansion feature isn't going to cut it. Remember when they actually hyped up the system of Guardian Ranks for TFS as some big fix to the onboarding problem? With the Curse of Osiris side of things, it sounds dope as a seasonal concept, because it was a current season sized expansion. Ofc as you said people were angry back in Curse because the state of the game, but right now it would fit way more as a seasonal model with a release calendar stuck to it. So that we can actually play the whole story but core activites/side content of the season would be released through out the episode.
Well with Curse we got about a 5 hour campaign "new" destination 1 Raid 2 Strikes 3 Crucible maps And many weapons I really wouldn't compare two, it was a low point but even than we actually got other content besides the campaign. Though I do think infinite forest really lends itself to the rogue like content bungie has been pushing since into the light. You got some conversations in Curse but not as bad as past seasons. Most of the seasonal content is just replaying content, or old content to unlock this weeks twist.
@@GainingDespair Ye, but you gotta consider the duration of an episode and content releases in it. Im not saying that we should get a whole new raid for it every episode that releases. But at the same time look at Eater of Worlds, that shit is comparable to an actual seasonal activity nowadays. We are still getting "strikes" in form of battlegrounds, and now onslaught maps. Crucible maps are being released as map packs and were kinda ignored in other releases as well, not saying every release, but some.
@@grompgames4409 Yeah I'm not saying they are the same in that respect, just seasonal content tends to be a lot of listening to conversations, and walking to check points followed by replaying old content. True they do release old seasonal missions as strikes now but personally I do not consider that a positive aspect. The game is grindy as is, I really just go to strike when I don't want to play seasonal content. Last thing I wish to see is old seasonal content I already dislike with a passion. Expansions have always progressed the story/world story of the game, seasonal content is designed to be disposable with more lore building than anything. Bungie can't afford to make dramatic changes in seasonal content as (at least by player numbers) roughly 3x more players buy expansions compared to seasonal content. Can't have a dramatic shift in story if only 30% of the player base ever engages with the content, so its designed to be less impactful. Which is one of my largest complaints nothing meaningful really happens in a season which can't be summarized in a 15 min Byf video.
The reason people dropped off of curse was because there was no loot and nothing to do. I enjoyed the story for both curse and wartime and remember it fairly well.
Ok, here’s my theory… I think Eido dies, either by Fikrul or Eramis hand. Then she gets resurrected as the first light bearing Eliksni. This resurrection and her new found power, draws the echo to her. If it was Fikrul that killed her, then she delivers the final blow to him, if it was Eramis, she spares her. Then she uses the echo to cure Mithrax. Because she’s a guardian now, the Eliksni see her as “having communion or recognition from the traveler” and she’s anointed ‘Kell of Kells’. Being resurrected as a guardian and being anointed Kell of Kells combined with the fact that, if it was Eramis who killed Eido and Eido didn’t retaliate, brings Eramis to our side (or more specifically the non combatant side) finally. Of course, the biggest plot hole in all of this is the fact that once resurrected Eido wouldn’t have any memories of being Eido… 🤷
with the curse of Osiris comment i also think the fact that it was being sold as a full dlc and not a season plays a part in why people were upset with what it was. peoples expectations for how much content was going to be added to the game (based on previous dlcs) were bigger than what was actual given.
@haydenw7981 I don't disagree at all, Ketchcrash was the high point of Plunder, I just can't help but be like "is this Ketchcrash?" every time I run this thing.
@@insomniaddictesphard disagree. Ketchcrash was very fun, especially on legend. Expeditions was the piece of seasonal content from plunder that sucked. Don’t get me wrong plunder was VERY lackluster but ketchcrash was not bad at all.
My thing with the "it's cheaper to do the holoprojector" argument is like... so? Why should I give a shit about that? It'd be even cheaper to just replace them all with text, why not just do that if "it costs us less money" is a valid defense of doing something that sucks. If it is *economically unfeasible* for you to rig a couple characters to stand around for a minute 4 or 5 times every couple months, that's your problem but we are still allowed to say that the solution is not a good user experience.
I liked this acts story up until the end, the return to the prison was good, the story mission was great, skolas coming back was cool, the stylized cutscene was interesting. But that ending took me completely out of it, why are we doing it, it’s completely out of character. It’d make much more sense for eido to do it not us
I mean, I guess it depends on what you consider out of character for a blank slate. Given the fact that the Guardian has been downing dubious tonics for Eido without a second thought, I think freeing someone who voluntarily got herself into jail in the first place + we've beaten several times isn't necessarily a wild thing to do
The good thing about the tonics isn't the volatile ones, it's the resource tonics. You can have one active for a specific drop no matter what activity you are doing. Seasonal weapons while farming the new dungeon, for example.
That last bit about Fikrul and Skolas escaping... youve got a point... they couldve directed that scene like the post-Witness fight in TFS where the fireteam just runs away from the baddie. Wouldve been cool to run away from undying waves of Scorn with like scary lights if they wanted the Vampire vibe thing.
Maybe the CoO structure could maybe work if they're used exclusively for Seasonal/Episode stories, I wasn't around during Warmind/CoO so I have no clue if the structure was terrible in execution but it doesn't sound like a terrible idea for smaller scale stuff like this
They were fine (not great) when looked at during the Forsaken era and beyond. But the state of the game was so horrible at the time and Curse did nothing to fix it. It was the equivalent of Season of Plunder, not a terrible dlc on its own but suffered massively from state of the game at the time and as such every misstep looks much worse. It’s honestly the same with this episode. It’s actually pretty decent all things considered and the new activities are good. More Onslaught, Tomb of Elders being one of the best 3-man activities in ages, and an actual integration of story elements built up since House of Wolves and finally providing a conclusion for all of this buildup of Fallen / Scorn story. But since it’s been told in the season without Timegating the realistic size of its content is shown, the weapons aren’t craftable because of an experiment being done by Bungie and perk weighting controversy, etc. So much is working against this episode that it’s getting buried under that people can’t enjoy it for what it is. But yeah Curse and especially Warmind were actually quite decent, just given at the worst time possible and having to fit into a system which people don’t like. It’s a never ending cycle unfortunately with this game where content can only be so good because of limitations in dev cycles and state of the game / development. It’s a shame.
I think the CoO model would actually work now because people didn't like the gutted gameplay in Y1 of D2 but CoO did have a good, unique narrative. I think what most of us ultimately want are unique story missions, whether it's weekly or all at once
in times of destiny content drout, i appreciate these fun little videos of you playing the story beats as they come out! hopefully they end up performing well enough to continue or theyre easy enough to produce cuz im always down for more datto👍
39:42 The problem with curse of Osiris was that it was a DLC, not just a season. For a DLC it was incredibly small, but for a season, that format would work much better.
Earning tonics wasn't explained well. You have to keep crafting lower tonics to earn higher ones. The legendary ones are helpful and, since they last 60 minutes, aren't as tedious to use. That does leave you with tons of tonics that you'll never use. You're able to turn in them in at Eido for items and rep but that's only one or two kinds per day. I enjoy the system. Gives you a controllable boost to gameplay and you can continue progressing the grind for seasonal weapons even while doing other activities. Bungie just needed to communicate the benefits better
The reason Final Shape feels like a year old is because, despite the content we are getting with Episodes, the episodes themselves seem to just drag on. I still love the story (even if Echoes ending was a big wtf), weapons, armor and characters but Episodes feel sooo much longer then they are.
Remember the Adventure Time episode with the hot dog knights in the dungeon with the wishes and the war-elephant? You know how Jake the Dog was stretched super super thin and just couldn't go on? Thats how I feel about Episode 2 so far, except I actually enjoyed the episode of Adventure Time.
Do you think that an echo piece is on/in the prison. Also, I wish that when they brought back the Prison of Elders, the chest had a chance of dropping Dregs Promise. Such a missed opportunity.
Great analysis, thank you! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
I found it funny that Misraaks threatened me after the final mission. Im like: dafuq are you talking about my guy? I will just pimp slap you and then crack an cold beer while all of your race turns into zombies and you become Nezarec. And then I‘ll go kill all of those zombies for as long as it takes to get rid of them. Especially since getting rid of the witness wasnt that long ago.
As a Coil enjoyer, Contest of Elders feels a LOT more engaging in a good way, the challenges have actual good balanced timers with making you rush it but also not being openly unfair at all. Not that I'm dissing on Coil, I played that shit like almost daily (only 1 long run for the day ofc) cuz it was just fun. Also actually pretty fun video Datto, I enjoyed this cut up vid of you doing Act 2 a lot! I think major field works give you dialogue that you couldve been fed through the hologram but people got sick of that so this is their workaround?
Contest of Elders is ok, however the ad density is so aids. They just constantly pour out of the walls with absolutely no breaks so even trying to stand still for a single moment get's you killed. Pair that with the 1000 grim flying around during the Sylok fight, getting blasted by one is an instant death. I just wish there was a way to shut the doors for a few moments, or just have the ads come in large waves rather than a constant drip.
Gotta be honest I had no idea contest of elders had an end, I think I probably left really close to the end. I joined in progress and when it looped other players were leaving and joining, I just thought it was infinite. Oops. Bungie should probably make that more clear?
been playing bo6 while waiting for act 2, I'd say onslaught might feel better with a rage inducer (mob runs faster, spawn faster etc.) to make it go faster
Part of me thinks the format of Curse of Osiris is what is needed and would be fine. I think it would be preferable to what we are getting at the moment anyway. Curse of Osiris, at least for me, was poor not because of the content format, but because what was made was itself shallow. However, I'm in two minds on this because I also think that, perhaps, the weekly release schedule was fine and they should have stuck with it. It keeps us engaged on a weekly basis and it supports a longer running narrative. Dealing with a grave threat in the space of a couple of hours during a couple of missions will never feel as weighted as playing those missions out over the period of a couple of months whilst we see the narrative play out in between missions. Unfortunately I think the only true solution is for Bungie to develop a lot more content than they are capable of producing, or of offering at a reasonable price. We all want cool missions and set pieces to come to every week, with animated characters and dialogue and cutscenes, but that just isn't feasible.
i know the idea of wanting curse of osiris back sounds insane, but two things to consider: 1) i said this years ago so i am simply built different 2) Our understanding is different. Back then, we wanted to compare mid year dlc's to end of year dlcs, and of course that comparison makes them look like shit. But now, we're comparing them to seasons, which is a different comparison- we understand now, at least I hope, that comparing mid year dlcs to seasons and not major expansions is the actual realistic and fair judgement to make. Not to mention, I'm sure they could do a mid year dlc a lot better than they used to anyway *because* of what they've learned from seasons.
For the Curse of Osirus comment, I actually enjoyed Curse... Granted, I stopped playing after Red War and came back in like 2019 (some time after Shadowkeep was released) to play it. But going through, playing through Red War, Curse, Warmind, Forsaken back-to-back, I didn't hate Curse. From my perspective, Curse of Osirus was marketed as a full on expansion when the game was at one of its lowest times, and is thus seen as the "Curse of Osirus Era" as a really bad time for the game. HOWEVER, if Curse was released as a filler thing like a season or episode between major expansions now, I would fuckin LOVE that. Idk if that's a hot take, but just in case here's one: I think abilities need to be nerf nuked due to power creep and to emphasize gunplay (which is arguably one of Destinys biggest strengths as a shooter)
32:44 Datto, I've been thinking this for a long time because of how you legit just say and do the same shit I do all the time. "Look, look with your special eyes!" and "MY BRAND!" are in my constant lexicon. Along with "I just shipped the bed!" Are we the same person???

Well with Curse we got about a 5 hour campaign
"new" destination
1 Raid
2 Strikes
3 Crucible maps
And many weapons
I really wouldn't compare two, it was a low point but even than we actually got other content besides the campaign.
"He who wipes with one ply run risk of stink finger"
Reading in variks voice made this much funnier
Curse of Osiris and Warmind also came with PvP maps and Strikes.
Dang datto spitting bars didn't know he had that flow
“One second guardian…Variks is ughhh cranking his shank”
Slideways/ Chill Clip is so good on Liturgy. Basically always have chill clip active
“I can go all day bby, it’s on sight” god I hope datto never changes.
I think I speak for everyone when I say we all want more Datto gameplay commentary
we're just all sick at this point aren't we
yes
13:08 unironically is one of the best Variks impressions 😂😂
The reason people dropped off of curse was because there was no loot and nothing to do. I enjoyed the story for both curse and wartime and remember it fairly well.
The real House of Judgement was Datto all along.
The GOTY award should be given ONLY to full games, not to DLC's or Expansions. Final Shape is an Expansion of a game.
Datto is definitely adopting more and more Northernlion mannerisms over time. Love to see it.
This video lasts longer than act 2
Ok, here’s my theory…
I think Eido dies, either by Fikrul or Eramis hand.
I really loved this form of video. I would watch stream cuts like this all the time!
Don't really know how best to put this, but the new activity is just Ketchcrash 2, no further questions.
Ketchcrash was dope. That season was mid tho
@haydenw7981 I don't disagree at all, Ketchcrash was the high point of Plunder, I just can't help but be like "is this Ketchcrash?" every time I run this thing.
And like bear in mind that was years ago we've done far better since (e.g. the Coil, which was explicitly referenced when promoting this activity).
Yikes. Ketchcrash was like one of the last worst times in the game.
@@insomniaddictesphard disagree. Ketchcrash was very fun, especially on legend. Expeditions was the piece of seasonal content from plunder that sucked. Don’t get me wrong plunder was VERY lackluster but ketchcrash was not bad at all.
"You ever think you're gunna...
Or you're about to...
...because I'm kinda there."
Datto, 2024
Given the fact that the Guardian has been downing dubious tonics for Eido without a second thought, I think freeing someone who voluntarily got herself into jail in the first place + we've beaten several times isn't necessarily a wild thing to do
"We've come so far, and we're circiling back"
No, we've *fallen so far* that curse of osisir looks like an improvement. Big difference.
The good thing about the tonics isn't the volatile ones, it's the resource tonics. You can have one active for a specific drop no matter what activity you are doing.
Seasonal weapons while farming the new dungeon, for example.
If Mithrax is Miisrax… does that mean Eramis is Eramith.
The era of myth.
Tbh the beginning dialogue with mithraxx, it really tells how much nezarec’s curse took hold
They yearn for the mines
Vauda's editing continues to be amazing
Like that this is a lot more chill, just gameplay and discussion highlights. Was nice :)
act tuah
Game on that thang
You two need to riskrunner inside the bath
Screeb yourselves.
Loved the editing on this one!
Content drout when the new act literally just released
I wish you kept the interaction between Crow and Eramis, would have been funny seeing Datto's reaction getting caught red handed xd
Liturgy with spike, slideways and chill clip is 🔥🔥🔥
Curse's format wasn't terrible, it was the content and depth of Curse was the problem.
Basically good idea bad execution type of issue
Really enjoying this format of video since i don’t play the game anymore but i like to keep up with what’s going on!
Big fan of this longer format!
There are 2 purple tonics worth using, and really only the one when fighting Raniks. But that grenade launcher reload is basically always active.
you can get exotic cipher, acendant shards loot tonics, randomly from creating other tonics
Summary of Datto’s commentary: *this is not as hard as I thought it would be*
39:42 The problem with curse of Osiris was that it was a DLC, not just a season.
UHH ACKSHUALLY ITS NOT A TANK, ITS A WALKER
Is what I would say if I was a huge nerd
Really enjoy this video format!!
We've come so far and tried so hard, but in the end it' didn't even matter.
Great analysis, thank you! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Just call him Mithrax.....don't need to worry about offending a digital character
39:40 you're wrong. Those also had new locations added to them, too
I found it funny that Misraaks threatened me after the final mission.
@@snottytoe6957 add density being too high is a cooked take. it would be boring asf if you had down time.
I would big enjoy captions for different moments in Datto vidoes
It wasn’t the content cycle that was bad. It was the 2 tokens and a blue
Kmart's "Ship My Pants" commercial was legendary
That thumbnail was like: I don't play that much Destiny 2, anymore...
As someone who joined during shadowkeep I liked Curse of Osiris (infinte forest should have been it's own activity)
Gotta be honest I had no idea contest of elders had an end, I think I probably left really close to the end. I joined in progress and when it looped other players were leaving and joining, I just thought it was infinite. Oops. Bungie should probably make that more clear?
Maybe the echo revives Aksis in act 3... Here's hoping.
been playing bo6 while waiting for act 2, I'd say onslaught might feel better with a rage inducer (mob runs faster, spawn faster etc.) to make it go faster
Not Elitist Datto but not normal Datto. Sarcastic Datto, maybe? Bro needs a break 😂
I had the same thought about the spider moment. He right down the hall
We all want cool missions and set pieces to come to every week, with animated characters and dialogue and cutscenes, but that just isn't feasible.
i know the idea of wanting curse of osiris back sounds insane, but two things to consider:
1) i said this years ago so i am simply built different
2) Our understanding is different.
Great edit 38:35
Datto's variks impression while sick is sooo fuckin good lmaoo
So far I have had a more enjoyable time with Curse of Osiris than with Episode 1 and Episode 2 combined
good edit style. definitely the move going forward and maybe for the second channel
22:04 blud was not having any of it
32:44 Datto, I've been thinking this for a long time because of how you legit just say and do the same shit I do all the time. "Look, look with your special eyes!" and "MY BRAND!" are in my constant lexicon. Along with "I just shipped the bed!" Are we the same person???
I jsut want red war to come back. Ghaul not beign in the final shape, was incredibly disapointing
He already had his moment in Shadowkeep as a nightmare
@@oxsila Had his moment? he turned into a pure being of light and got absorbed by the traveller.
you could even make a leap and say in that moment he became and died as a guardian.
He 100% should have been in the traveller in some way.
he didnt have any moment in shadowkeep.
being fodder is not having a moment.
If his nightmare escaped the pyramid and became sentient due to how light and dark essentially make actual life and memories. that would be a moment.
@@arkura1812 He was in shadowkeep. He has nothing to do with the witness so he wasn't in the final shape. Back when they included ghaul in shadowkeep, they hadn't fleshed out what they really wanted to do besides giving the darkness a voice. It also makes absolutely 0 sense to for them to include him in TFS when they didn't add any red war mission to the timeline. They added cayde to prepare for the fact cayde would be.
@@oxsila HAving anythign to do with the witness is nto a prerequisite to be in TFS, otherwise cayde wouldnt be here. he died before the witness properly mattered
Looking forward to more varietydattoTM
Revenant situation is crazy
“Noo 🥺” - datto
Damn what the hell? Am I the only one who loves this season? Maybe it’s just because I miss Forsaken so much and this whole season is Forsaken themed but damn.
Its insane to me that that was supposed to be 3 weeks worth of content and I knocked it out in a couple hours. I really want to enjoy this game again but they're making it so hard.
So get one weeks dialogue, go run both seasonal activities then log off for a week
@OliviaOnline That doesn't fix the fact there's barely anything happening in the story. There was actually more in the old seasons. Echoes and this even more than echoes, feel bare bones. I like what's happening but there's sadly not much to like.
if Datto was a Terraria player he'd HATE the Old One's Army huh
It's almost as if the problem with curse of Osiris wasn't curse of Osiris itself
datto on his arthur morgan arc with the TB
Wasnt CoO looked down upon cuz it was a whole ass campaign for that year and it was basically like what a little measly season SHOULD be?
This video made me chuckle. You're more funny than people think you are Datto. Great video! 😊
