i think part of what kept the tribes from interacting is all the hard engrained propaganda against the other tribes. unicorns saw other tribes as so dangerous, even speaking of them brings bad luck. the others had stories of brain-zapping from the unicorns. not sure how these rumors and traditions began though.

When Zipp takes Sunny and Izzy to the balloon station, she says "It's like everypony just... forgot". Maybe the memory stone in the background was meant to indicate that Argyle had the same idea, but his theory that the stone is what caused it is not necessarily correct, as he didn't have time to piece everything together before he passed away. I think Zipp is going to help Sunny continue her father's research and add her own findings. She seems to be the "brains" of the mane 5.

Meaning it could be the stone that altered their memories, or perhaps something else. It could just be a red herring as well. Just an idea he considered because of how bizarre the gap is from friendship and cohesion between pony kind (and other species as well) to come to what now is a very divided land with so much missing history to explain what happened. It is justifiable enough to put as a lead to the mystery given the circumstances.
Yeah !!! This has always been on my mind, the fact that Zipp said that word without any answer raised a question. She's the Princess of Zephyr Height and according to her mother the future Queen of Zephyr Height and yet she has no idea how that station came to be. The station clearly show indication with a picture of three ponies tribe happily together and also a poster of Maretime Bay and Bridlewood and even a sign of "Welcome to Zephyr Height" above the happily three pony tribe in the sign. This mean, after the seperation when magic still exist, they're still friend. The fact the heir apparent of Zephyr Height had no idea of such time period exist in Zephyr Height and even said that word indicating as if the record is erased from the history and artificialy change.
I'm surprised that not only was there an equestria girls Easter egg, but one from the short series instead of the movies. That means that equestria girls is in the minds of someone (wether it's the writers, concept artists, or the animators I'm not sure) and it's not impossible that sunny might find a portal to the human world at some point. I wonder what 3d humans will look like in this style

The wendigos were obliterated when the mane six, pillars and student six unleashed their powers of the elements on chrysalis, tirek and cozy to defeat them, you can actually see it happen
I forgot that happened! Looking back at that scene, I think that's actually definitely a possibility! The wendigos are powerful ancient magic, and under normal circumstances I don't think simple unicorn magic could ever erase them. However, the magic we see obliterate them is fueled by not only an alicorn, but also by 3 generations worth of the elements. I could definitely see that at the very least being equal in power to the wendigos! On the downside, if this is what happened, that would also help divide the ponies, as unlike in g4, there won't be consequences for them dividing and fighting. It would actually be alot easier for someone with ill intent to separate them all again, like chrysalis did
The more i think about it, the more i think the movie was purposely created with a setting, plot points and a set of details that would bring the fanbase to ask questions about the new nature of this future Equestria. Is almost like the movie is a colossal tease for all of the bronies, especially theorists and analyzers

Maybe the wendigos disappeared when magic disappeared. They do seem to be magic creatures and made of it. When magic disappeared, they did too. Hence why they never frosted the place over, they weren't around! Now that magic is back, they might come back too.
Pony magic isn't all friendship, I think the show writers forgot that. So there would still be magic in the world. There are so many different types of magic two of which are dark and chaos, which don't scream friendship fueled. That's not to mention wild magic, dragon magic and so on.
About what I'm thinking. Even if the Windigos are flesh and blood creatures they still need magic to cross great distances to get to where the fighting is. Let's also consider that we saw no other races/species in the new generation movie. So it's not just the ponies that are divided. The one hint we get that would suggest there is or was some contact between the pony tribes is the existence of well-trodden roads.
That can not be an accident. The zeppelin station on Zephyr Heights has "Manehattan" & "Neighara Falls" as destinations (so it is located within the same continent/landmass). The Wonderbolt´s logo has the "Castle" of Zephyr Heights on the background (this means it was part of "Ancient Equestria"). The "turist poster" for Maretime Bay has a taller lighthouse without the "house" at the bottom; sugesting it was either rebuilt, or got partially "buried" before Argyle (or somepony else before him) bought it after the "light" function of the lighthouse was deprecated thanks to modern technology [radar/sonar & radio]. It could be the case that just a few generations had passed since "the event" that massively erased memories from everypony & led them to go on "safety mode" [tribal/herd behavior]. -> There was no "massive battle" between earth ponies, pegasi & unicorns (the "school teacher" based the history lessons on rumors & fantasies passed on verbally, not recorded texts). Since they are not on the stone age & all speak the same language, it HAD to be a "very selective" amnesiac targeting only a broad (but well defined) generic set of memories [like "every positive/noble thing about X & Y race, but not neutral knowledge"]. -> It is true that unicorns have the "potential" to ZAP a ponies with a beam powerful enough to burn their heads and/or electrocute their brains ("fry"). -> It is true that pegasi are more prone to "overt" outbursts (not necesarily "violent", but when they do not contain their rage it is "clear", no subterfuges or passive/agressiveness). Then they are also the most terrible pranksters. -> Earth Ponies are asociated with agriculture (mud, stinkiness & lack of education).
Well we still don't know what Flurry Heart did to end up on a glass window at the end of G4, so maybe it could have been something to do with defeating the windegos forever?? So much is still in the air.
That would make sense for the mane6, but according to the ruins they found in Zephyr Heights, they were definitely on good terms in recent history, since there were posters advertising tourism to the other cities using their current names rather than their ancient G4 names.
Yet somehow the time difference is still short enough that Argyle can find significant quantities of documentation on the G4 era. And that documentation is mostly on perishable materials... which suggest a time-gap between G5 and, not necessarily G4, but a society with large-scale awareness of G4 of a few hundred to at most maybe 1500 years...
So many questions. Somepony must have had "SOMETHING" to gain by erasing everyponies memories. But if that is the case and it was the memory stone that caused all the mistrust and paranoia, the question remains "WHO" had something to gain. I am very curious. I seen other channels mention the memory stone in the background but I didn't think of it the memory erase way. I am very intrigued. I do hope we get some sort of answers. It is interesting because some pony or some creature must have seen or read about the memory stone or seen and read about it's powers. But "WHO"?
Maybe whoever did it also has something to do with the magic disappearing in the first place. Perhaps someone was trying to divide equestria in hopes they would slowly destroy each other or be stuck in a perpetual cycle of fear, and did something to the windigoes because their threat would have caused the tribes to unite against a common foe again.
There's the possibility that it wasn't intentional. A lot of the more powerful characters from G4 have had spells backfire on them and cause massive problems that they had not anticipated or intended (Twilight, Starlight, Luna, Discord, Flurry Heart...). Or it could have been a side effect of some desperate measure that was taken to stop some villain, like what happened to the Pillars of Equestria and to the Crystal Empire.
Maybe somepony or something accidentally erased the good memories. As to why another memory stone is made, I would not be surprised if someone was researching old or forgotten magic.
You know.... everyone is trying to find some complete, detailed explanation for how we got from A to B when, there is one that is much simpler and does cover exactly how things can change so much. Time. Trying to explain how we got from G4 to G5 is like trying to find one solitary, unifying explanation for how we went from the Roman Empire to the British Empire. It's simply been so damn long, things change and are forgotten.
Yeah, I think I'd prefer if the show used that as the main explanation. Personally, I think the idea of one big bad guy making everyone magically forget feels like a more boring reason than something like a bunch of smaller conflicts slowly changing things over time. I'm also just more interested in seeing more about what Equestria is currently like than having a perfectly detailed explanation of exactly how the peace fell apart.
Sure time is a factor but it still going to make us wonder when in time this all started to happen. Usually events like this have a specfic reason that it all happened. Plus, you would think not everycreature would be divided in such a manner; at the very least you would think there is some remnants of unity of ponies and/or creatures out there someonewhere.
@@shadowwriter4538 Time is really the only thing needed, things change, and the more time passes the more they do, small changes add up, entropy always wins. It's better to just deal with that, and not try and play conect the massive amount of dots, just let this be it's own thing, that had a way to give a very sweet and heartwarming way to let the FIM characters pass the torch. Because the more you try to connect or answer, the more it will only draw attention to all the other things that aren't the same but aren't yet explained versus.... it's simply been so long that it's pretty much a new world, with the G4 one being like The Hyborean Age or Middle Earth is meant to be to the real world, a long lost time of myth and legends of which only partially remembered fragments of stories remain.
I know this might be a bit far fetched... But could Cozy Glow be the one? They might have tried to reform the villains, and Cozy followed through with a plan that was already in the works in season 8, dividing Equestria. While she is a pegasus, she could've asked for help with creating a memory stone under the guise of forgetting the harm she did to Equestria and starting over. She could've used the stone to erase good memories of ponies living together in harmony. Including the pony that created the stone for her.
That’s similar to the theory I have, it definitely seems plausible that Cozy could’ve been the one to help take magic away since she’s the main one who wanted it gone. I also think Tirek and Chrysalis might’ve helped in spreading propaganda to separate the races since they basically did it before. The only thing I couldn’t think of that made sense was how or who got the memory stone.. your theory makes a lot more sense
I don't think that could work because she would have likely made it so everypony united under her; it wouldn't necessairly matter if it was a pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony; same could apply to creatures like griffins, yaks, kirin, and even dragons if she could. I don't see where she benefits from an always divided Equestria if it's not even united under her.
It doesn't take long to forget things "everyone knows." I recall the example of condiment sets from the 1850s, with a mustard pot, vinegar and oil bottles, and shakers for salt, pepper, and ... nobody remembers what the third condiment was. It was only 170 years ago, and nobody bothered to write down what went in the third shaker, so when it fell out of common use it was just lost to memory. If nobody is paying attention, it happens very quickly. A couple generations is plenty of time. I am still leaning toward the windigos having been destroyed during the G4 finale. That massive blast of friendship magic "rainbow lasers" didn't appear to drive them away, they just dissolved. If you think about it, that could also become the reason the tribes drifted apart. Without the threat of eternal snow if they don't stick together, the importance of Hearth's Warming could fade over time and fall prey to commercialism, leading to ponies becoming cynical and jaded toward the importance of friendship. From Sprout's claims about the history they were taught, it sounds like there was some form of war (at least a battle) between the tribes prior to them parting ways. Having a fight like that happening and not having the windigos show up would look like proof that the old stories were just made up, and the stories of Twilight Sparkle were the same.

@@sunflower8227 It is different, absolutely. There's just a lot of history of heroes and leaders being erased by later governments, leaders, and movements. It was fairly common in ancient Egypt for a new pharaoh to have all records and images of the prior pharaoh destroyed and replaced with their own. Concentrated effort can, and has, erase figures from history. Based on what the dialogue in the movie said about what is taught in their history classes, it would only take three or four generations before the living memory was lost.
With the modern stuff in G5 with what they parodied and referenced, it honestly shouldn’t be a big surprise to most people cause we seen that in G4 already with most towns and cities being pony versions of american cities and towns and one canadian town…and references to other media like back to the future, rick and morty, phantom of the opera, list goes on lol
OMG! I’m surprised I never noticed that till now! There is talk of Earth ponies having “ magic” in G5, and this proves there was magic in Earth Ponies all along! G5 is just the Earth Ponies rediscovering it! That is super cool! Also, I can’t wait to see what G5 has in store.

I believe the windigos got destroyed in the series finale. Also, the memory stone shown in the background, I do not believe that had anything to do with the tribes dividing. I do not know how that happened. The movie did not explain it, so because of that, no one knows how it happened.
Short answer: the minds behind the movie forgot about that particular lore detail. But, it's more fun to think of in-universe explanations. I will admit, I still think this movie would have been stronger without the forced links to FiM, but I can't deny that the tradeoff is that it's quite a rabbit hole for discussion.
"Why didn't the magical Windigos using their weather magic on the ponies in this magicless world?" is not the best question asked about G5. Now, if one wanted to speculate that the reason magic went away when the ponies split apart is because of a failsafe mechanism produced to remove magic in such a crisis in order to protect ponies from the Windigos, that might go somewhere.
I really do hope that G5 focusses a bit more on world-building that has little to do with a “friendship lesson” since that was one of the major issues me and a few other people had with G4
I wouldn't mind a friendship episode every now and then, but I too hope on more adventure arcs. Like rediscovering the past. Like in g4, most technology was magic powered, (cider press, tanks flying rig), so what if the return of magic reactivated ancient magitek? Cloudsdale had to be abandoned, when magic disappeared, but what if the factory still exists and causes Desaster once it comes back online, like va Ruta from botw.
During the series finale, there was fear and mistrust in the races which caused the windigos to appear. The same thing in the G5 movie but no windigos.
@@HandheldGamer1991 Well, assuming that the things that relied on magic for their existence weren't effectively killed off when their source of existence was removed, even if that plug has been effectively returned to the wall socket. Worry not though, as even if that's the case, magic always presents new and spectacular ways to screw up and create other bad things.
The difference is, in the G4 finale they hated and directly fought with each other just like before Equestria was founded. In the G5 movie it was just fear and rumors with no interactions. And once fighting did start, it didn't last long enough to attract the windigos.
My personal headcannon takes a different approach: that for one reason or another, the Windigoes were simply taken out of the picture at some point before the events of A New Generation could happen. Perhaps they _were_ taken out at the end of Friendship is Magic, but personally I don't buy it ( _in the series finale, you only saw the three Windigoes in a circle-- no more, no less_ ). Maybe it's something Twilight, her students, or any of the Young Six tackled later, some other event we don't know of ( _if there isn't a given answer, it just gives me room to fill in my own, right?_ ), or simply that because the magic went away from Equestria and the Windigoes too are magical beings, the loss of magic simply razed _them_ as well, but the only thing I can say for sure now is that G5 needs to do a better job of answering questions~ _Chuckle_
i gotta say that the fact we are all still so oblivious to the continuation of G5 EVEN WHEN we all got to see the movie is hella awesome . this is good story telling this far and i am very excited and hopeful they keep us thinking after we see more confirmed shows / videos
I'm pretty sure that the rainbow laser powered up by pretty much every creature in ponyvile, canterlot and every other creature that took part in the final battle was a bit stronger than the fire of friendship that was originally powered by just 3 ponies. Just a tad. I'm pretty sure the wendigos went the direction of king Sombra. Meaning complete and utter annihilation. Remember, even the lord of chaos could not beat the magic of friendship once the main six were able to wield the elements. And I'm pretty sure the wendigos would have been no match for Discord at his full power. As a result, there is no reason to believe that the magic of friendship can't straight up destroy the wendigos.
okay and lets pretend for a moment that there are only those three wendigos that exist... but how come the pony's magic is so reliant on unity with each other🤔though.... They may be similar but separation for a long time led them to 🤔lose magic? @@quartzsienes8033 Honestly, I can't really think of a reason for magic to have disappeared. Even long before the tribes came together, magic still existed in Equestria. As clearly demonstrated by the existence of Grogar's bell, with the story about Gusty most likely taking place during the time the tribes first started working together. Because of this I'm pretty sure that the whole magic disappearing thing is just something that got retconned into G5. That, or the magic in Equestria changed because of the elements of harmony. Or you know, Cozy Glow/Tirek 2.0 but (some of) the magic was saved by storing it inside the gems. This would have probably happened after the tribes split and the 3 tribes getting back together would let enough time pass to safely release the magic without it being drained or destroyed.
The Memory Stone is an interesting thought, and although it was destroyed in the G4 TV movie, it doesn't mean that another one couldn't show up. There's a possibility that a similar stone from the Human Universe could have found its way (somehow) into the Equestrian Universe (if a connection between them still exists). Additionally, the Windigos are MAGICAL CREATURES, so the absence of magic in G5 Equestria could have effected their ability to manifest in the current age. (Or, the writers simply left them out of the G5 movie in order to prevent the plot from becoming too confusing for new viewers...)
Lots of interesting points raised. However, I seem to recall that the “Windigos” were blasted away with a he triple harmony rainbow at the end of S9. The Memory Stone is a nice Easter egg for fans to spot in the movie but it’s not too far fetched to discover that there’s more than one Memory Stone. Who would want to erase the ponies good memories of each other in order to separate them. We’ll just have to wait and see when the G5 series drops. Keep up the good work my friend.
This may sound absolutely preposterous, but my theory is that other than the memory stone i'm think it could've been either that or it could've been Discord, because as we all know he has power beyond comprehension therefore he would be powerful enough to either erase or alter ponies memories and as for why Discord would want to do something like that since he's reformed. Well my guess is that it would be just to cause chaos among the ponies one last time, because again as we all know Discord may be reformed but he's still the lord of chaos and with the Mane 6 gone it would be the perfect opportunity. However, another reason i can think of is because Discord would probably be so sick of grieving over Fluttershy that he would probably rather forget her and with that he would probably think that the rest of the ponies of Equestria are better off forgetting about the Mane 6 and everything they did in the past...but anyway that's my theory. Again i know everything i said makes absolutely no sense *AT ALL* but it's all i got.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Dragons and Yaks are rage-quitters in online games. In other words, I think all the other races are out there too, and have lost their magic as well, and are probably also living out their lives in a post-modern capitalist world, isolated from all the other races with similar prejudices.

Perhaps a descendent of Twilight Sparkle or Flurry Heart had to 'seal away' magic from the world to protect it from an outside threat; say something like Lord Tirek's father who'd come to destroy Equestria and take the pony's magic once and for all. The world's magic could have been removed/suspended within the 3 crystals and then crystal split apart to keep it safe from an enemy's clutches but the ability to reform the crystal was lost. With magic suspended, every pony forgets about it and just drifts apart.
Let's not forget we've also seen memory magic negatively impact ponies from Discord's influence, as well as Starswirl's uncompleted spell. There are so many things that could've gone wrong and I'm just so excited to see how our questions will be answered in the series.
My personal theory is that the Crystals of the 3 tribes were created as essentially a precaution in case the Tribes were to ever fight. They feed on hatred and magic, so it would make sense that one of the solutions to get rid of the Wendigos is to get rid of magic After all we never once see or hear any mention of the crystals in G4, and if such crystals existed prior then there would've been no use of magic during the moments in G4 where the Ponies fought, and Cozy could've easily used those stones to siphon the Magic from the other tribes instead of that more elaborate spell she used under the School, so perhaps Twilight or some other powerful magic user created these crystals as a precaution in case of such events, and by the time those precaution were met, nobody knew or remembered how to fix it, and went their seperate ways
Maybe if the stone is involved they may not even be hiding, they could be just be running around in broad daylight manipulating things and just constantly erasing and editing everpony’s memories so no one even realizes they exist. It’d be like the silence from dr who.
maybe it's because there was never actual hate between the pony tribes in the G5 movie. just fear and mistrust. correct me if i'm wrong on this, but i always thought the Wendigoes only showed up when there was hatred between ponies, not fear. besides, they were literally destroyed in the G4 finale by the rainbow beam let out by the Mane 6, the pillars and the students, so maybe that could be an explanation. but i have no idea if it was permanent
I do believe it has been such a long time since G4, and we know that old history books haven't been used for generations and replaced with newer books with propaganda and lies. We could assume the old books of history were burnt, with only a few surviving the mass destruction of the knowledge which is why Argyle knows so much about the ancient times whilst also having possibly travelled around to collect artifacts, he found some few remaining ancient history books. This could be why the Ponies don't remember the old times; they've been taught something completely different.
I brought up the idea that the crystals might have been created as a way of protecting Equestria after the Mane 6 passed (taken from another commenter's post) on Sawtooth's video (they use they/them pronouns btw). From there I guessed that perhaps whatever caused them to fight was bad enough that they agreed to separate for a while like they have done in the past, and that if whoever was in charge (be it Twilight herself or a future princess) sealed the magic away as a means of keeping the Windigos from being able to form (as beings of magic) so that they could come back together sooner. From there I'd suspect something either internally or externally happened and that prevented the tribes from reuniting. There's so many different things that could happen, and the concept of a duplicate memory stone would also help to tie a lot of things together and make some more sense of things (like Pegasi not remembering they're all supposed to be able to fly while Unicorns remember they're supposed to have magic could be explained as either the stone being imperfect, or there being multiple duplicates and multiple wielders). I really hope the show takes the time it needs to give a satisfying answer. We don't need all the details, just knowing what went wrong so the new generation can prevent it and an answer as to what the other races outside of ponies have been doing all this time.
There's also the question of HOW Argyle got ahold of all these information about the mane 6 and even the pillars. Maybe he stumbled on it? inherited it? I'm really excited for these questions to be answered in the series ^^
What if G4 was just a myth in G5? It would explain how the Mane 6 are toys but would also explain the lack of wendigos and how twilight could have failed so bad. Twilight never existed. It was just a story.
There’s been a theory bouncing around in my head since watching Sawtooths video: what if Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow did the same thing as they tried to do before with separating the races but, learning from their previous mistakes, took a different route? I know they were trapped in stone last we saw them, but what if at some point in time, Twilight decided to do what Celestia had done with her: give Luster Dawn and her friends a chance to reform a villain? It’s far fetched sure, but think about it: Cozy Glow wanted magic gone and knew how to make it happen, plus the three of them knew how to work together to divide the races. They (nearly) did it once, now they know how to do it even better and more efficiently. What if they found/created another memory stone, used it, and spread propaganda slowly overtime, just enough that it doesn’t cause conflict or attract too much attention, and lastly found a way to take magic away from Equestria? However without magic, they’re entirely powerless and with the races now divided, there’s nothing that can be done. That could explain the ridiculous rumors and propaganda plastered everywhere, why the memory stone seems to be hinted it, and what happened to divide the races. What do you guys think or maybe add something on?
When ALL magic disappeared from modern Equestria. All magical beings disappeared along with it. Now that magic have returned we are going to see how the new Mane 5 along with the pony races have to work together to solve magical problems
I knew it someone brought the stone over Edit: it could have made people forget about twilight my thought is that after twilights friends died, she used it as she could have been hunted down so she made every pony forget her and her friends existed as the pony races hated each other Edit 2: twilight removed the magic as a punishment and age saw unicorns and Pegasi using it against each other Edit 3: what if chrysalis found out about the second or got the one from the earth world and used it after turning the alicorns AND starlight into stone. This will make sense to the immortality’s right they are just isolating
Sunny says it herself to Izzy less than a minute after meeting her -- "They're not playing, they're terrified. EARTH PONIES HATE UNICORNS!" Followed by Izzy remarking that that sounds a little harsh. It's the same reason in Adventure Time that candy citizens don't explode upon becoming scared, except for that first episode. They just retconned that out of the show because itwas inconvenient.
This theory definitely sets up a badass villain. What if someone, or some pony, wanted to split the pony races of Equestria apart, completely and irreversibly? It would be so cool. And they, or their followers could still be out there somewhere, depending on how long it's been since the ponies first forgot the harmony in the days of G4.
Well, if there wasn’t any magic.. there probably weren’t any Wendigos cause they’re a form of magic as well. Now that Sunny has brought back magic, the Wendigos may resurface throughout Equestria where disharmony is still present. Just a thought..
My theory about the Wendigoes is someone in the past, with good intentions, destroyed or permanently banished them. Plus, they say in the foalhood part of the movie near the beginning, they state there had been a battle at some point, and they taught about it in history. Just because the reasons for that conflict might have been distorted didn't mean it didn't happen. I would wager the part about there having been a fight where the earth ponies forced the other races out of Maretime Bay is indeed true, just not the finer details about it. Violence had broken out, and no wendigo came. The only way that happens is if there were no wendigo to come.
You also have to consider Equestria Girls is in a parallel universe, so things that exsist there can also exist in Equestria at the same time. If the elements of harmony exists in Equestria Girls AND in Equestria then that means the stone can exist both places too. You can’t rule out the stone being in Equestria, just because it was destroyed in its parallel universe. As we’ve seen threats can still have counterparts in their parallel universe. The girls still use the elements even though the elements have been destroyed in Equestria so there’s no way of saying the memory stone doesn’t still exsist in Equestria some where
Hitch stated that there was a big battle they learned about in school. But we only have his word on what he was taught as information on it. From what we see of Equestria, it seems to be much smaller as well. They were able to walk to all three settlements in two days.
There are a few different possibilities with this theory. The one I'm hoping isn't the case is discord interfering after losing Fluttershy by simply having every pony have a "fresh start" as an attempt to reinstate kindness at some point in the future. Another case would be something similar to the Kirins. If some confrontation did occur that ponies or another species thought of as being "just to bad" to live with, wiping the memories could have been seen as being worth it. They may have lost the memories of a very negative set of events associated with individuals (who probably did not really represent the whole) attacking the other tribes. A different option is a (non-pony) group simply seeing the friendship powers as being too big of a threat and acting out of fear of attack. If it was a villain simply wanting power, why haven't they attacked already?
Hey, what if Discord made one to make himself forget about Fluttershy in an attempt to cope with her death and accidentally erased all the good times for ALL the ponies? Maybe he then realized what he did but didn't know how to reverse it so he tried to keep them all separate so they wouldn't fight until he figured something out?
Very good thought about the memory stone Dr Wolf since it would explain what happened to make the ponies forget harmony. It just begs the question as to why Sunny's father was the only one so far to figure out the truth. Another personal theory that popped into my head while watching this is what if something so bad happened to the Mane 6 ponies wanted to forget and used the stone to erase more memories than intended while stricken with grief over losing the Mane 6. I agree with Sawtooth that the loss of magic partly explains why there are no Windigos.
Maybe just maybe there was a second memory stone but it was defective or like a prototype before the creation of the fully functional memory stone that is just my guess anyway
The reason the Windigos aren't around is because they are referred to by Tirek as "ancient magic". So if there's no magic at all in the land, that also includes and magically created systems, magends(living spells), or enchanted creations. The entire Everfree Forest has up and disappeared because of this, except for the remaining Tree of Harmony.
Have you guys seen Sunny became an Alicorn the crystals are something Cyan:Celestia Blue:Luna Purple:Twiliet? What if the princess left those crystals until they passed away there might be a chance Sunny have all the prowers?
Maybe the wendigos DID appear. From the map we can see that a lot of equestria is under water. So it is possible they were fighting, the wendigos appeared, and out of fear they separated believing being near the others caused this. When they were no longer fighting the wendigos disappeared and the massive excess of snow flooded equestria. The civilizations seem very small, and while there may be other groupings I find it hard to believe there were no other settlements between maretime bay, bridlewood, and zephyr heights. That leads me to believe that a lot of the population..probably didn't survive the wendigos and what remains are small and segmented.

Given the maps seen in the "2D artwork" done before the movie, it seems like there was a complete geomagnetical reversal of the North & South poles (the maps are not "inverted", since East is still "east"). . Then we have the "ancient lands" of the tree pony tribes (that were completely covered in hundred of meters of ice & snow on the North of Equestria), with only the main City of the Crystal "Empire" still present simply because it was moved to LIMBO for 1000 years (never "buried" on centuries of snow). My theory is that G4 happened at the middle a glaciation period on the "planet" of Equestria [that is usually the "normal" state on geological terms, the entire written history of humans happens up to this day on the in-between "hot" period between two glaciations]. -> Then G5 has finally reached "modernity" ( mass production of smartphones & war machines ), because it is also on a "hot" period that melted all the ice [raising sea level & inundating places, but also revealing exposed eroded rock with plenty of resources to mine].
I think The reason the Windygo’s haven’t shown back up is because of one simple thing. They’ve been destroyed completely. They did after all get hit with three sets of rainbow laser blast before then turned and hit the three main villains in the penultimate episode of the series. I think the ironic thing is. Without Wendigo‘s to show up when the ponies start fighting, they wouldn’t have something else to unite against and they keep fighting. My theory is basically after some arguments and maybe some actual fighting they ended up splitting off into their separate locations. And then as magic began to fade, Pegasi and unicorns became even more isolationist than they were previously. Fearing that if the other tribes found out they were losing their magic they would be attacked. Which in turn only increased the paranoia. With the fact that all three tribes didn’t seem to want to interact with each other and in fact their fear has led to ridiculous ideas of what the others were capable of. I don’t think earth ponies had even seen a unicorn or a Pegasus since before Cantorlogic even became a thing. (Which also throws in the credibility of those mind control protection helmets even being able to do anything) But one thing I think is also needs to be a highlighted thing in the new series coming up: what is earth pony magic? Because the end credit scene showed up earth pony’s hoof prints glowing. There’s also the fact that when the unicorns in Bridlewood ran by some crystals in the ground they started to glow. Which makes me wonder what the fallout of Equestria suddenly regaining magic is going to be.
And it is also interesting to think about if it really was the memory stone that caused the events of g5 then it gives a new perspective on how argyle and sunny both believe in friendship. Everypony forgot about the magic of friendship but through the friendship journal, artifacts, and ancient ruins argyle and sunny learn about the magic of friendship from long ago
My theory is that Twillight made the gem from the movie and gave it to the respective pony races when she saw that things where beginning to fall appart. I think it was designed to nullify all magic if things ever got really bad, and maybe also make them forget their fighting. Then over time they made up their own reasons and history as they forgot the truth. Or something along those lines
It would be interesting is Sunny's dad was the one who actually made everyone forget so that he could keep peace from the windigos. It would also set up a theory I have about the magic and the separation of the three gems.
In my opinion the memory loss is due to G5 being situated so far into the future that no one simply remembers ancient ewhesteja except for examples like Argyle who searched for remnants. I'll be honest in today's modern world I have absolutely no idea who ruled our country more than a few generations ago. You could ask most people about the ancient history somewhere inland in their country and they wouldn't know much at all.
If Sunset Shimmer had something to do with this or with the memory stone, I can already guess why. I may have made it up, but suppose what if I might be saying is true? If I'm wrong, then I there's something else that I am missing. I hope the series can address this.
i think part of what kept the tribes from interacting is all the hard engrained propaganda against the other tribes. unicorns saw other tribes as so dangerous, even speaking of them brings bad luck. the others had stories of brain-zapping from the unicorns. not sure how these rumors and traditions began though.

When Zipp takes Sunny and Izzy to the balloon station, she says "It's like everypony just... forgot". Maybe the memory stone in the background was meant to indicate that Argyle had the same idea, but his theory that the stone is what caused it is not necessarily correct, as he didn't have time to piece everything together before he passed away. I think Zipp is going to help Sunny continue her father's research and add her own findings. She seems to be the "brains" of the mane 5.

Just an idea he considered because of how bizarre the gap is from friendship and cohesion between pony kind (and other species as well) to come to what now is a very divided land with so much missing history to explain what happened. It is justifiable enough to put as a lead to the mystery given the circumstances.
Yeah !!! This has always been on my mind, the fact that Zipp said that word without any answer raised a question. She's the Princess of Zephyr Height and according to her mother the future Queen of Zephyr Height and yet she has no idea how that station came to be. The station clearly show indication with a picture of three ponies tribe happily together and also a poster of Maretime Bay and Bridlewood and even a sign of "Welcome to Zephyr Height" above the happily three pony tribe in the sign. This mean, after the seperation when magic still exist, they're still friend. The fact the heir apparent of Zephyr Height had no idea of such time period exist in Zephyr Height and even said that word indicating as if the record is erased from the history and artificialy change.
I'm surprised that not only was there an equestria girls Easter egg, but one from the short series instead of the movies. That means that equestria girls is in the minds of someone (wether it's the writers, concept artists, or the animators I'm not sure) and it's not impossible that sunny might find a portal to the human world at some point. I forgot that happened! Looking back at that scene, I think that's actually definitely a possibility! The wendigos are powerful ancient magic, and under normal circumstances I don't think simple unicorn magic could ever erase them. However, the magic we see obliterate them is fueled by not only an alicorn, but also by 3 generations worth of the elements. I could definitely see that at the very least being equal in power to the wendigos!
On the downside, if this is what happened, that would also help divide the ponies, as unlike in g4, there won't be consequences for them dividing and fighting. It would actually be alot easier for someone with ill intent to separate them all again, like chrysalis did

Pony magic isn't all friendship, I think the show writers forgot that. So there would still be magic in the world. There are so many different types of magic two of which are dark and chaos, which don't scream friendship fueled. That's not to mention wild magic, dragon magic and so on.
About what I'm thinking. Even if the Windigos are flesh and blood creatures they still need magic to cross great distances to get to where the fighting is. Let's also consider that we saw no other races/species in the new generation movie. So it's not just the ponies that are divided. The one hint we get that would suggest there is or was some contact between the pony tribes is the existence of well-trodden roads.
It also goes back to Zip’s line in the movie when they discover the balloon station: “It’s like every pony just… forgot”
That can not be an accident.
The zeppelin station on Zephyr Heights has "Manehattan" & "Neighara Falls" as destinations (so it is located within the same continent/landmass).
The Wonderbolt´s logo has the "Castle" of Zephyr Heights on the background (this means it was part of "Ancient Equestria").
The "turist poster" for Maretime Bay has a taller lighthouse without the "house" at the bottom; sugesting it was either rebuilt, or got partially "buried" before Argyle (or somepony else before him) bought it after the "light" function of the lighthouse was deprecated thanks to modern technology [radar/sonar & radio].
It could be the case that just a few generations had passed since "the event" that massively erased memories from everypony & led them to go on "safety mode" [tribal/herd behavior].
-> There was no "massive battle" between earth ponies, pegasi & unicorns (the "school teacher" based the history lessons on rumors & fantasies passed on verbally, not recorded texts).
Since they are not on the stone age & all speak the same language, it HAD to be a "very selective" amnesiac targeting only a broad (but well defined) generic set of memories [like "every positive/noble thing about X & Y race, but not neutral knowledge"].
-> It is true that unicorns have the "potential" to ZAP a ponies with a beam powerful enough to burn their heads and/or electrocute their brains ("fry").
-> It is true that pegasi are more prone to "overt" outbursts (not necesarily "violent", but when they do not contain their rage it is "clear", no subterfuges or passive/agressiveness). Then they are also the most terrible pranksters.

Well we still don't know what Flurry Heart did to end up on a glass window at the end of G4, so maybe it could have been something to do with defeating the windegos forever?? So much is still in the air.
I figure it’s just such a gap between g4 and g5 that the stories of the mane six became nothing more then bedtime stories and legends.
That would make sense for the mane6, but according to the ruins they found in Zephyr Heights, they were definitely on good terms in recent history, since there were posters advertising tourism to the other cities using their current names rather than their ancient G4 names.

Yet somehow the time difference is still short enough that Argyle can find significant quantities of documentation on the G4 era. And that documentation is mostly on perishable materials... which suggest a time-gap between G5 and, not necessarily G4, but a society with large-scale awareness of G4 of a few hundred to at most maybe 1500 years...

So many questions. Somepony must have had "SOMETHING" to gain by erasing everyponies memories. But if that is the case and it was the memory stone that caused all the mistrust and paranoia, the question remains "WHO" had something to gain. I am very curious. I seen other channels mention the memory stone in the background but I didn't think of it the memory erase way. I am very intrigued. I do hope we get some sort of answers. It is interesting because some pony or some creature must have seen or read about the memory stone or seen and read about it's powers. But "WHO"?
Maybe whoever did it also has something to do with the magic disappearing in the first place. Perhaps someone was trying to divide equestria in hopes they would slowly destroy each other or be stuck in a perpetual cycle of fear, and did something to the windigoes because their threat would have caused the tribes to unite against a common foe again.

There's the possibility that it wasn't intentional. A lot of the more powerful characters from G4 have had spells backfire on them and cause massive problems that they had not anticipated or intended (Twilight, Starlight, Luna, Discord, Flurry Heart...). Or it could have been a side effect of some desperate measure that was taken to stop some villain, like what happened to the Pillars of Equestria and to the Crystal Empire.

Maybe somepony or something accidentally erased the good memories. As to why another memory stone is made, I would not be surprised if someone was researching old or forgotten magic.
You know.... everyone is trying to find some complete, detailed explanation for how we got from A to B when, there is one that is much simpler and does cover exactly how things can change so much. Time.
Trying to explain how we got from G4 to G5 is like trying to find one solitary, unifying explanation for how we went from the Roman Empire to the British Empire. It's simply been so damn long, things change and are forgotten.
Yeah, I think I'd prefer if the show used that as the main explanation. Personally, I think the idea of one big bad guy making everyone magically forget feels like a more boring reason than something like a bunch of smaller conflicts slowly changing things over time.
I'm also just more interested in seeing more about what Equestria is currently like than having a perfectly detailed explanation of exactly how the peace fell apart.
Sure time is a factor but it still going to make us wonder when in time this all started to happen. Usually events like this have a specfic reason that it all happened. Plus, you would think not everycreature would be divided in such a manner; at the very least you would think there is some remnants of unity of ponies and/or creatures out there someonewhere.

It's better to just deal with that, and not try and play conect the massive amount of dots, just let this be it's own thing, that had a way to give a very sweet and heartwarming way to let the FIM characters pass the torch.
Because the more you try to connect or answer, the more it will only draw attention to all the other things that aren't the same but aren't yet explained versus.... it's simply been so long that it's pretty much a new world, with the G4 one being like The Hyborean Age or Middle Earth is meant to be to the real world, a long lost time of myth and legends of which only partially remembered fragments of stories remain.
I know this might be a bit far fetched... But could Cozy Glow be the one? They might have tried to reform the villains, and Cozy followed through with a plan that was already in the works in season 8, dividing Equestria. While she is a pegasus, she could've asked for help with creating a memory stone under the guise of forgetting the harm she did to Equestria and starting over.
She could've used the stone to erase good memories of ponies living together in harmony. Including the pony that created the stone for her.

I also think Tirek and Chrysalis might’ve helped in spreading propaganda to separate the races since they basically did it before. The only thing I couldn’t think of that made sense was how or who got the memory stone.. your theory makes a lot more sense
I don't think that could work because she would have likely made it so everypony united under her; it wouldn't necessairly matter if it was a pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony; same could apply to creatures like griffins, yaks, kirin, and even dragons if she could. I don't see where she benefits from an always divided Equestria if it's not even united under her.

It doesn't take long to forget things "everyone knows." I recall the example of condiment sets from the 1850s, with a mustard pot, vinegar and oil bottles, and shakers for salt, pepper, and ... nobody remembers what the third condiment was. It was only 170 years ago, and nobody bothered to write down what went in the third shaker, so when it fell out of common use it was just lost to memory. If nobody is paying attention, it happens very quickly. A couple generations is plenty of time.
I am still leaning toward the windigos having been destroyed during the G4 finale. That massive blast of friendship magic "rainbow lasers" didn't appear to drive them away, they just dissolved. If you think about it, that could also become the reason the tribes drifted apart. Without the threat of eternal snow if they don't stick together, the importance of Hearth's Warming could fade over time and fall prey to commercialism, leading to ponies becoming cynical and jaded toward the importance of friendship. From Sprout's claims about the history they were taught, it sounds like there was some form of war (at least a battle) between the tribes prior to them parting ways. Having a fight like that happening and not having the windigos show up would look like proof that the old stories were just made up, and the stories of Twilight Sparkle were the same.
i like the example for condiment sets, but it's different, the G4 is a LIFE SAVER! heroes hardly get forgotten, and twilight did make books, diaries and her frienship reports!
@@sunflower8227 It is different, absolutely. There's just a lot of history of heroes and leaders being erased by later governments, leaders, and movements. It was fairly common in ancient Egypt for a new pharaoh to have all records and images of the prior pharaoh destroyed and replaced with their own. Concentrated effort can, and has, erase figures from history. Based on what the dialogue in the movie said about what is taught in their history classes, it would only take three or four generations before the living memory was lost.

I believe the windigos got destroyed in the series finale. Also, the memory stone shown in the background, I do not believe that had anything to do with the tribes dividing. I do not know how that happened. The movie did not explain it, so because of that, no one knows how it happened.
Short answer: the minds behind the movie forgot about that particular lore detail. But, it's more fun to think of in-universe explanations. I will admit, I still think this movie would have been stronger without the forced links to FiM, but I can't deny that the tradeoff is that it's quite a rabbit hole for discussion.

"Why didn't the magical Windigos using their weather magic on the ponies in this magicless world?" is not the best question asked about G5. Now, if one wanted to speculate that the reason magic went away when the ponies split apart is because of a failsafe mechanism produced to remove magic in such a crisis in order to protect ponies from the Windigos, that might go somewhere.
I guess we have to wait for the special to come next year to get more answers and questions on what happened to it

I wouldn't mind a friendship episode every now and then, but I too hope on more adventure arcs. Like rediscovering the past. Like in g4, most technology was magic powered, (cider press, tanks flying rig), so what if the return of magic reactivated ancient magitek? Cloudsdale had to be abandoned, when magic disappeared, but what if the factory still exists and causes Desaster once it comes back online, like va Ruta from botw.
Add some filler episodes to make the story less linear.

@@HandheldGamer1991 Well, assuming that the things that relied on magic for their existence weren't effectively killed off when their source of existence was removed, even if that plug has been effectively returned to the wall socket. Worry not though, as even if that's the case, magic always presents new and spectacular ways to screw up and create other bad things.
The difference is, in the G4 finale they hated and directly fought with each other just like before Equestria was founded. In the G5 movie it was just fear and rumors with no interactions. And once fighting did start, it didn't last long enough to attract the windigos.

My personal headcannon takes a different approach: that for one reason or another, the Windigoes were simply taken out of the picture at some point before the events of A New Generation could happen. Perhaps they _were_ taken out at the end of Friendship is Magic, but personally I don't buy it ( _in the series finale, you only saw the three Windigoes in a circle-- no more, no less_ ). Maybe it's something Twilight, her students, or any of the Young Six tackled later, some other event we don't know of ( _if there isn't a given answer, it just gives me room to fill in my own, right?_ ), or simply that because the magic went away from Equestria and the Windigoes too are magical beings, the loss of magic simply razed _them_ as well, but the only thing I can say for sure now is that G5 needs to do a better job of answering questions~ _Chuckle_
i gotta say that the fact we are all still so oblivious to the continuation of G5 EVEN WHEN we all got to see the movie is hella awesome . this is good story telling this far and i am very excited and hopeful they keep us thinking after we see more confirmed shows / videos
The memory stone makes a lot a sense!
I'm pretty sure that the rainbow laser powered up by pretty much every creature in ponyvile, canterlot and every other creature that took part in the final battle was a bit stronger than the fire of friendship that was originally powered by just 3 ponies. Just a tad. I'm pretty sure the wendigos went the direction of king Sombra. Meaning complete and utter annihilation.
Remember, even the lord of chaos could not beat the magic of friendship once the main six were able to wield the elements. And I'm pretty sure the wendigos would have been no match for Discord at his full power. As a result, there is no reason to believe that the magic of friendship can't straight up destroy the wendigos.
okay and lets pretend for a moment that there are only those three wendigos that exist... but how come the pony's magic is so reliant on unity with each other🤔though.... They may be similar but separation for a long time led them to 🤔lose magic? (stating this in connection to your comment since you seem to may feel like the question about the wendigos is the only thing interesting about the movie)
@@quartzsienes8033 Honestly, I can't really think of a reason for magic to have disappeared. Even long before the tribes came together, magic still existed in Equestria. As clearly demonstrated by the existence of Grogar's bell, with the story about Gusty most likely taking place during the time the tribes first started working together. Because of this I'm pretty sure that the whole magic disappearing thing is just something that got retconned into G5. That, or the magic in Equestria changed because of the elements of harmony.
Or you know, Cozy Glow/Tirek 2.0 but (some of) the magic was saved by storing it inside the gems. This would have probably happened after the tribes split and the 3 tribes getting back together would let enough time pass to safely release the magic without it being drained or destroyed.
The Memory Stone is an interesting thought, and although it was destroyed in the G4 TV movie, it doesn't mean that another one couldn't show up. There's a possibility that a similar stone from the Human Universe could have found its way (somehow) into the Equestrian Universe (if a connection between them still exists). Additionally, the Windigos are MAGICAL CREATURES, so the absence of magic in G5 Equestria could have effected their ability to manifest in the current age. (Or, the writers simply left them out of the G5 movie in order to prevent the plot from becoming too confusing for new viewers...)
Lots of interesting points raised. However, I seem to recall that the “Windigos” were blasted away with a he triple harmony rainbow at the end of S9. The Memory Stone is a nice Easter egg for fans to spot in the movie but it’s not too far fetched to discover that there’s more than one Memory Stone. Who would want to erase the ponies good memories of each other in order to separate them. We’ll just have to wait and see when the G5 series drops. Keep up the good work my friend.
This may sound absolutely preposterous, but my theory is that other than the memory stone i'm think it could've been either that or it could've been Discord, because as we all know he has power beyond comprehension therefore he would be powerful enough to either erase or alter ponies memories and as for why Discord would want to do something like that since he's reformed.
Well my guess is that it would be just to cause chaos among the ponies one last time, because again as we all know Discord may be reformed but he's still the lord of chaos and with the Mane 6 gone it would be the perfect opportunity.
However, another reason i can think of is because Discord would probably be so sick of grieving over Fluttershy that he would probably rather forget her and with that he would probably think that the rest of the ponies of Equestria are better off forgetting about the Mane 6 and everything they did in the past...but anyway that's my theory.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Dragons and Yaks are rage-quitters in online games. In other words, I think all the other races are out there too, and have lost their magic as well, and are probably also living out their lives in a post-modern capitalist world, isolated from all the other races with similar prejudices.

@@sethcarlow8363 I mean, it's more conjecture than information, but you're welcome. :) I am assuming other races are still out there though, unless evidence is presented to the contrary. As for whether we will actually find that out, I guess that's up to the minds behind the upcoming series.
Perhaps a descendent of Twilight Sparkle or Flurry Heart had to 'seal away' magic from the world to protect it from an outside threat; say something like Lord Tirek's father who'd come to destroy Equestria and take the pony's magic once and for all. The world's magic could have been removed/suspended within the 3 crystals and then crystal split apart to keep it safe from an enemy's clutches but the ability to reform the crystal was lost. With magic suspended, every pony forgets about it and just drifts apart.
Let's not forget we've also seen memory magic negatively impact ponies from Discord's influence, as well as Starswirl's uncompleted spell. There are so many things that could've gone wrong and I'm just so excited to see how our questions will be answered in the series.
I have a theory that the Windagos was created by Harmony and are a failsafe mechanism to make sure that Harmony would always win
My personal theory is that the Crystals of the 3 tribes were created as essentially a precaution in case the Tribes were to ever fight. They feed on hatred and magic, so it would make sense that one of the solutions to get rid of the Wendigos is to get rid of magic
After all we never once see or hear any mention of the crystals in G4, and if such crystals existed prior then there would've been no use of magic during the moments in G4 where the Ponies fought, and Cozy could've easily used those stones to siphon the Magic from the other tribes instead of that more elaborate spell she used under the School, so perhaps Twilight or some other powerful magic user created these crystals as a precaution in case of such events, and by the time those precaution were met, nobody knew or remembered how to fix it, and went their seperate ways

maybe it's because there was never actual hate between the pony tribes in the G5 movie. just fear and mistrust. correct me if i'm wrong on this, but i always thought the Wendigoes only showed up when there was hatred between ponies, not fear. besides, they were literally destroyed in the G4 finale by the rainbow beam let out by the Mane 6, the pillars and the students, so maybe that could be an explanation. but i have no idea if it was permanent

I do believe it has been such a long time since G4, and we know that old history books haven't been used for generations and replaced with newer books with propaganda and lies. We could assume the old books of history were burnt, with only a few surviving the mass destruction of the knowledge which is why Argyle knows so much about the ancient times whilst also having possibly travelled around to collect artifacts, he found some few remaining ancient history books. This could be why the Ponies don't remember the old times; they've been taught something completely different.
I brought up the idea that the crystals might have been created as a way of protecting Equestria after the Mane 6 passed (taken from another commenter's post) on Sawtooth's video (they use they/them pronouns btw). From there I guessed that perhaps whatever caused them to fight was bad enough that they agreed to separate for a while like they have done in the past, and that if whoever was in charge (be it Twilight herself or a future princess) sealed the magic away as a means of keeping the Windigos from being able to form (as beings of magic) so that they could come back together sooner. From there I'd suspect something either internally or externally happened and that prevented the tribes from reuniting.
There's so many different things that could happen, and the concept of a duplicate memory stone would also help to tie a lot of things together and make some more sense of things (like Pegasi not remembering they're all supposed to be able to fly while Unicorns remember they're supposed to have magic could be explained as either the stone being imperfect, or there being multiple duplicates and multiple wielders). I really hope the show takes the time it needs to give a satisfying answer. We don't need all the details, just knowing what went wrong so the new generation can prevent it and an answer as to what the other races outside of ponies have been doing all this time.
I was thinking the windigos weren't there because twilights magic in the second to last episode of gen 4 made it so they never returned again.

What if G4 was just a myth in G5? It would explain how the Mane 6 are toys but would also explain the lack of wendigos and how twilight could have failed so bad. Twilight never existed. It was just a story.

There’s been a theory bouncing around in my head since watching Sawtooths video: what if Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow did the same thing as they tried to do before with separating the races but, learning from their previous mistakes, took a different route? I know they were trapped in stone last we saw them, but what if at some point in time, Twilight decided to do what Celestia had done with her: give Luster Dawn and her friends a chance to reform a villain?
It’s far fetched sure, but think about it: Cozy Glow wanted magic gone and knew how to make it happen, plus the three of them knew how to work together to divide the races. They (nearly) did it once, now they know how to do it even better and more efficiently.
What if they found/created another memory stone, used it, and spread propaganda slowly overtime, just enough that it doesn’t cause conflict or attract too much attention, and lastly found a way to take magic away from Equestria? However without magic, they’re entirely powerless and with the races now divided, there’s nothing that can be done. That could explain the ridiculous rumors and propaganda plastered everywhere, why the memory stone seems to be hinted it, and what happened to divide the races.
What do you guys think or maybe add something on?
When ALL magic disappeared from modern Equestria. All magical beings disappeared along with it. Now that magic have returned we are going to see how the new Mane 5 along with the pony races have to work together to solve magical problems

Sunny says it herself to Izzy less than a minute after meeting her -- "They're not playing, they're terrified. EARTH PONIES HATE UNICORNS!" Followed by Izzy remarking that that sounds a little harsh.
It's the same reason in Adventure Time that candy citizens don't explode upon becoming scared, except for that first episode. They just retconned that out of the show because itwas inconvenient.
This theory definitely sets up a badass villain. What if someone, or some pony, wanted to split the pony races of Equestria apart, completely and irreversibly? It would be so cool. And they, or their followers could still be out there somewhere, depending on how long it's been since the ponies first forgot the harmony in the days of G4.
Well, if there wasn’t any magic.. there probably weren’t any Wendigos cause they’re a form of magic as well.
Now that Sunny has brought back magic, the Wendigos may resurface throughout Equestria where disharmony is still present.

My theory about the Wendigoes is someone in the past, with good intentions, destroyed or permanently banished them.
Plus, they say in the foalhood part of the movie near the beginning, they state there had been a battle at some point, and they taught about it in history. Just because the reasons for that conflict might have been distorted didn't mean it didn't happen. I would wager the part about there having been a fight where the earth ponies forced the other races out of Maretime Bay is indeed true, just not the finer details about it. Violence had broken out, and no wendigo came. The only way that happens is if there were no wendigo to come.
You also have to consider Equestria Girls is in a parallel universe, so things that exsist there can also exist in Equestria at the same time. If the elements of harmony exists in Equestria Girls AND in Equestria then that means the stone can exist both places too. You can’t rule out the stone being in Equestria, just because it was destroyed in its parallel universe. As we’ve seen threats can still have counterparts in their parallel universe. The girls still use the elements even though the elements have been destroyed in Equestria so there’s no way of saying the memory stone doesn’t still exsist in Equestria some where
Instead of forgetting the good times they may also have remembered why they ought to be afraid.
Hitch stated that there was a big battle they learned about in school. But we only have his word on what he was taught as information on it. From what we see of Equestria, it seems to be much smaller as well. They were able to walk to all three settlements in two days.
There are a few different possibilities with this theory. The one I'm hoping isn't the case is discord interfering after losing Fluttershy by simply having every pony have a "fresh start" as an attempt to reinstate kindness at some point in the future. Another case would be something similar to the Kirins. If some confrontation did occur that ponies or another species thought of as being "just to bad" to live with, wiping the memories could have been seen as being worth it. They may have lost the memories of a very negative set of events associated with individuals (who probably did not really represent the whole) attacking the other tribes. A different option is a (non-pony) group simply seeing the friendship powers as being too big of a threat and acting out of fear of attack. If it was a villain simply wanting power, why haven't they attacked already?

Very good thought about the memory stone Dr Wolf since it would explain what happened to make the ponies forget harmony. It just begs the question as to why Sunny's father was the only one so far to figure out the truth. Another personal theory that popped into my head while watching this is what if something so bad happened to the Mane 6 ponies wanted to forget and used the stone to erase more memories than intended while stricken with grief over losing the Mane 6. I agree with Sawtooth that the loss of magic partly explains why there are no Windigos.

The reason the Windigos aren't around is because they are referred to by Tirek as "ancient magic". So if there's no magic at all in the land, that also includes and magically created systems, magends(living spells), or enchanted creations. The entire Everfree Forest has up and disappeared because of this, except for the remaining Tree of Harmony.

Maybe the wendigos DID appear. From the map we can see that a lot of equestria is under water. So it is possible they were fighting, the wendigos appeared, and out of fear they separated believing being near the others caused this. When they were no longer fighting the wendigos disappeared and the massive excess of snow flooded equestria. The civilizations seem very small, and while there may be other groupings I find it hard to believe there were no other settlements between maretime bay, bridlewood, and zephyr heights. That leads me to believe that a lot of the population..probably didn't survive the wendigos and what remains are small and segmented.
. Given the maps seen in the "2D artwork" done before the movie, it seems like there was a complete geomagnetical reversal of the North & South poles (the maps are not "inverted", since East is still "east").
. Then we have the "ancient lands" of the tree pony tribes (that were completely covered in hundred of meters of ice & snow on the North of Equestria), with only the main City of the Crystal "Empire" still present simply because it was moved to LIMBO for 1000 years (never "buried" on centuries of snow).
My theory is that G4 happened at the middle a glaciation period on the "planet" of Equestria [that is usually the "normal" state on geological terms, the entire written history of humans happens up to this day on the in-between "hot" period between two glaciations].
-> Then G5 has finally reached "modernity" ( mass production of smartphones & war machines ), because it is also on a "hot" period that melted all the ice [raising sea level & inundating places, but also revealing exposed eroded rock with plenty of resources to mine].
Maybe the Alison's disappeared one day, it'd caused panic and each race blamed the other, due to this they went away from eachother
I think The reason the Windygo’s haven’t shown back up is because of one simple thing. They’ve been destroyed completely.
They did after all get hit with three sets of rainbow laser blast before then turned and hit the three main villains in the penultimate episode of the series.
I think the ironic thing is. Without Wendigo‘s to show up when the ponies start fighting, they wouldn’t have something else to unite against and they keep fighting.
My theory is basically after some arguments and maybe some actual fighting they ended up splitting off into their separate locations.
And then as magic began to fade, Pegasi and unicorns became even more isolationist than they were previously. Fearing that if the other tribes found out they were losing their magic they would be attacked. Which in turn only increased the paranoia. With the fact that all three tribes didn’t seem to want to interact with each other and in fact their fear has led to ridiculous ideas of what the others were capable of. I don’t think earth ponies had even seen a unicorn or a Pegasus since before Cantorlogic even became a thing.
(Which also throws in the credibility of those mind control protection helmets even being able to do anything)
But one thing I think is also needs to be a highlighted thing in the new series coming up: what is earth pony magic?
Because the end credit scene showed up earth pony’s hoof prints glowing. There’s also the fact that when the unicorns in Bridlewood ran by some crystals in the ground they started to glow. Which makes me wonder what the fallout of Equestria suddenly regaining magic is going to be.

Everypony forgot about the magic of friendship but through the friendship journal, artifacts, and ancient ruins argyle and sunny learn about the magic of friendship from long ago

My theory is that Twillight made the gem from the movie and gave it to the respective pony races when she saw that things where beginning to fall appart.
I think it was designed to nullify all magic if things ever got really bad, and maybe also make them forget their fighting. Then over time they made up their own reasons and history as they forgot the truth.

It would be interesting is Sunny's dad was the one who actually made everyone forget so that he could keep peace from the windigos. It would also set up a theory I have about the magic and the separation of the three gems.
That make sense. No one really knows what ever happened to that evil sorceress, or how the stone got into the human world.
In my opinion the memory loss is due to G5 being situated so far into the future that no one simply remembers ancient ewhesteja except for examples like Argyle who searched for remnants.
I'll be honest in today's modern world I have absolutely no idea who ruled our country more than a few generations ago. You could ask most people about the ancient history somewhere inland in their country and they wouldn't know much at all.

If Sunset Shimmer had something to do with this or with the memory stone, I can already guess why. I may have made it up, but suppose what if I might be saying is true? If I'm wrong, then I there's something else that I am missing. I hope the series can address this.
