My Little Pony Make Your Mark Chapter 2 has recently released. I think out of all the MLP G5 characters Sunny Starscout needs the most development.
If you could, what changes would you make to G5?
Opaline. That’s it
Oh, and maybe make Sparky more mature
Also, this is just a personal thing, make Sunny a permanent Alicorn. Imagine that. Pegasus power and unicorn power added with the new earth pony plant magic. It’d be amazing

Have Opaline pretend to be nice to Misty along the way and then much later on after it's revealed that she was only using her, then have her verbally and emotionally abuse Misty.
Have Sprout get a bigger role, go through a redemption arc, and to also have him teach the earth ponies to control their magic.
Make Sunny more headstrong and determined, have her be the glue that brings her friends together and to also show leadership qualities.
Make Opaline more than just a bland villain (and also give her a better design)
Have Sparky's dragon magic be able to teleport objects instead of swapping cutie marks and creating random objects (like how Spike's dragon breath was able to teleport Celestia's scrolls)
Completely not have G5 tied to G4 and have it be it's own thing(like how it should've been)
Give Sparky a speaking voice and an actual personality instead of this annoying little demon baby.
Have Sunny's alicorn abilities show up much later into the show rather than just right off the bat like in the movie. (Give it some build up instead of it being rushed and out of the blue)
No technology or any references to social media at all(in my opinion that is the worst part of G5 and it just shows how Hasbro is trying so hard to be modern and hip. Especially with Cliptrot)
As an aspiring writer, I can confirm that good stories come in time. Months, if not years. They rushed bc of time limits, that's why there are some questionable moments. I think the creator of MYM also wrote storybooks for G4. It's in a way like you said, it has potential but it's those moments that f*** the whole picture. I'm actually ok with Opaline's personality, as we don't know her whereabouts and Sunny's naivety can be used to some degree as a plot device as long as she will learn one day to trust less. but I would focus more on the past/G4, come now reality.

Sunny continuing her father's work is a pretty obvious idea, that I'm surprised wasn't used (yet?). It's what most people thought was going to happen, like the video "What's Next for Sunny Starscout" that Dr. Wolf posted 3 days after the movie came out. Her status is really confusing now. She's "The Alicorn", but she's still doing the same thing she was doing before the movie, and she lives in a fancy house that materialized offscreen somehow, and Make Your Mark sometimes acts like no one in town respects her, just like in the movie ("another one of Sunny's lost causes"? Really?), while Tell Your Tale sometimes acts like she's in charge of literally everything (the Equestria Games? Really?). What's her deal anyway?
sunny's a lot like twilight, taking charge and is kind of the leader of the group. makes sense for sunny to be related to luster dawn (twilight's former pupil when she took over the school of magic, similar to when twilight was celestia's pupil in the early days of g4).

I've been waiting for the series to take that route for Sunny since the movie came out, and still am
Sunny is a very good leader but it cant show all of the Twilight vibes that G4 fans loved it. She's having her story forced into the series, that should had been much more interesting since the beginning
She cant be simply an alicorn that now have powers and will defeat opaline. Needs have a reason for why she was chosen, just like Twilight had hers. I know that we're not on G4 anymore, and that they cant copy the same stuff, lore and essence from G4, but they need at least, give to the very old fans, a good main character that doesnt sounds less interesting, they need give a future princess or leader alicorn that will soon be the owner of the entire nation

They could write sparky as an extremely rare type of dragon with powerful fire magic he can't control. Different dragon species could have different abilities like ponies do. Spike had the ability to send letters with his fire and I don't think we've seen other dragons do that so sparky could work if they had a plan for it.
I also think that, despite Sunny being the main character, she's ironically the most bland character out of the mane five. I thought of a brief description to rewrite her character that might also fits into the story:
Sunny Starscout is a very empathetic and curious pony. With the help of her father's research, she thrives to help others to recognize the power of friendship, and overall, make the world a better place. However, due to her being so dedicated to her passion and goals in helping others, she often neglect her own needs. She also has a habit of diving in head first before without fully considering or understanding the endeavor in front of her. Nonetheless, Sunny means well, and she's always there to support her friends.
I love this! I think this small addition would fit well, and make Sunny a far more appealing character with room to grow!
@@Star_Strike Thanks, I literally came up with it in less than 10 minutes. One decent reason/motive for her to be helping others would be because she wants to continue her father's research; she was inspired by him
Your idea of connecting the movie and the series with a bit of community service by Sprout was genius.
It always felt like, movie events were pretty distant in terms of main characters interactions and post movie behaviour.
I think another thing the show massively lacks is character motivations. We don’t have a Rainbow Dash or Rarity who, left to their own devices, will take steps to further their own career goals. What is Izzy trying to work towards on her days off? What does Sunny do with her time if you leave her alone?
Also, does hitch not have his own house? Why is he staying at the brighthouse and not, say, his house?
Agreed. Long term goals for characters to work towards is an excellent tool for character development.
I think Hitch lives in the Sheriff station.
One of my personal problems with MYM so far is that is bloats its episode content by having to feature all of the Mane 5 each and every time (which means the writers must come up with stories for each of them just so they matter, or else be written out from the episode).
"Portrait for A Princess" was one of the better episodes for this very reason, that it only uses needed characters selected from the Mane 5. 🤔

This format is similar to Friends, where there's usually two subplots going on at the same time and every character gets involved in at least one of them. But MYM also has Opaline and Misty scheming in the background in addition to that. So it can feel a little unfocused.

It's not really "each and every time", since you mentioned an episode that doesn't feature the whole cast. "The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over" also took Hitch and Sparky out of events fairly quickly.
@@lordblu4316 I think it would have been better if Hitch and Sparky did not appear in that episode, and it could have been replaced with better utilization of the screentime. 🤔
Or even better yet, utilize Hitch and Sparky's appearance by actually introducing them to Misty, and create an arc out of it. And that arc can later lead to the same "Misty kidnapping the dragon with Hitch unawares of who took the baby" plotline, which could have created a more intriguing version than the one we got, simply because Hitch and Misty met beforehand.
What would kidnapping the dragon mean for Misty after knowing that Hitch is a kind father who's trying to pull things together for the sake of his baby dragon, and his sanity? The answer to this creates more layers about Misty, which will only make her more interesting as a character. 🙂
I do want to point out that in G4, Spike's fire breath had the ability to send messages to-and-fro Celestia, which was never elaborated upon or explained, so Sparky's dragon fire having magical properties in-and-of-itself is not a problem.
Yeah, but Spike's fire was consistent. Though there might've been a few episodes here and there where you could nitpick about the way it works, it always does the same thing.
While Sparky's fire seems to just be plot driven. I get tht it's a baby so it's more chaotic (Because god forbid we have a baby character that doesn't immediately go completely chaotic with it's powers instead of, you know, developing them later) but so far it really felt like it was more there for the scenario more than to be a consistent character ability.
Spike's ability is just sending letters, and it's consistent throughout the series.
Sparky's ability is to do random things for no reason just to progress the plot. So yeah, it's different
@3:11 What I personally want to see is a story arc that sees Sprout getting better and better, realizing that even his own paranoia genuinely can have its place in Equestria if it submits itself to a good end, and the arc ends with him driving a unicycled Sprouticus Maximus to chase a shocked and nonplussed Opaline away from Maretime Bay.
My problem with the sleepover episode is that it doesn't tell us when or where did Sunny learn about the story she told, she and her friends never knew about the crystals until the journey they had in movie, if she knew this story, then she should've known that there are three unity crystals in the movie all along which clearly she doesn't until the end. The only way for this to make sense is if the comics were canon.
The episode where the lamp was stolen had a problem where at the end, they didn't question why the lamp was buried in the garden in the first place, only that it was missing. Once they found out Pipp had it, they didn't ponder why she found the lamp buried, instead acting like she was the one who took it from the house. This is an oversight that I hoped Zipp would notice, considering her character and profession, but she didn't, somehow.
I got the headcanon that because magic just got reintroduced, it's also chaotic as it tries to find its place. Sparkies random magic might just be a form of Chaotic fire. Remember, pegasi fly through magic, so wouldn't it be the same? This could go into a history point where the lack of magic cause the extinction of more magical creatures, like dragons or Kirin.
That, or more bits of magic are just... out of place. I mean, you're literally throwing the entirety of magic... into 3 crystals. there's bound to be a few bugs.

@@sleipnirthe8th339 I mean think about it. Flying is a basic use of magic, while dragon fire kinda isn't. It can also be used to transport scrolls. And without their fire breath dragons would have to adapt. I just say unicorn magic is limited to telekinesis since those spells have to be learned.
Plus the lack of magic mean all those creatures like bugbear and Griffins would go away since magic is what keeps the two entities together. Eventually turning them into regular lions and eagles.

You need to think about that dragons are literally hybrids of all kinds of animals in various cultures.
I wouldnt personally think they could depart themselves.
Still, would be great to see some mythical animals again.
But Imagine this… what if the mythical hybrid creatures did depart themselves, including the dragons.
But when magic came back, mythical creatures slowly start to appear again.
Wich explains Sparkys sudden appearance.

@@sleipnirthe8th339 I can believe that. But what I mean is the magic inside them is gone. Twilight was able to separate the animals that made what... The bugbear? By removing the magic inherent in it. That's why I said they probably don't exist since we see that the magic was taken from the ponies.

I love your idea of giving a point to Sprout character. He was so important in the movie, and now he's a mere cameo. Thus said, my grip with the sleep over episode is different. I'm more upset at how Pipp messed up her sister's investigation RIGHT AFTER she told her not to do so, and Zip didn't even get mad, just because "Oh, you were so happy, your cuty mark was shinning"

Also, things need to be more consistant. How does Earth Pony magic works now? How does Crappy, I mean, Sparky fire work? How does the cutie mark work???? THIS is the biggest offense. Earth Pony magic is new. Sparky is a new character. BUT CUTIE MARKS? Nothing so far indicated that they're supposed to work differently, but for some reason, they're totally different. They glow up when they're doing someting related with their talent? They amplify sound? Ponies themselves don't seem to understand their cutie mark, so I guess their magic "amplified", but then, does that mean that cuties mark magic is linked to the crystals magic? Then, how did any pony got a cutie mark to begin with during the long period they went without magic? Seeing as there's this whole "Misty want a cutie mark" thing, I guess they will touch on some of those questions, but I'm seriously hoping it'll make more sense than what we got so far.
I totally agree with all of your ideas. The show is just going all over the place. The only thing I like about it is the Portrait Day song. And the fact that every pony appears with a cutie mark even before the magic comes back is just weird. It's so funny to see every character argue with each other about who took the magic. I mean, the creator acts like nothing even happened, and when Misty just appears in the show without the cutie mark, it just makes everything even more weird.
I hate the fact they made twilight her non-tall form considering it makes no sense-
I think the main problem of G5 is that they are trying a bit too hard on connecting G5 to G4, to the point they made more and more questions with little answers given.
I think that they should focus on G5 first then introduce G4, like you said, even Sunny doesnt have much personality and I think the only pony whose personality is already shown is Zipp.
Yeah, let the sudden appearances of G4 be a surprise and let G5 grow a bit first, then think of something to maybe connect or possibly even bring G4 and G5 together

I need an episode where his relationship with Hitch is adressed. Because he is Luna to Hitch's Celestia. Sprout only wants validation. That was his main thing, all the time, he diesn't actually believes in himself it's a front (just look how anxious he is the second ponies did not accept him as a replacement sherriff). And it could be a good theme of having a bad influence on somepony, without actually diung something bad (Hitch on Sprout) out of ignorance. Him beeing the one pony naturally gifted with control over magic could be super cool, and I think that he'd jump to the teaching position with no convincing needed as beeing looked up to sounds like a dream come true to him. But what if, his axiety, fear of magic (that he still kinda has, magic getting out of control ON HIS WATCH, oh man, instant panic) and lack of will to admit failure (again? Why do I fail at everything, noone needs to know) and the feeling that nopony actually trusts or listens to him (which doesnt need to be true, might be in his own head) could be so cool to explore in the episode. Him trying to cover up the messups of his students to not be "a bad teacher" could create a fun chaos as a climax of the episode. And of course the message of trusting yourself and others and taking resposibility not only for things that you do wrong but also right. And how about Sunny deciding to become his co-teacher? She kinda gets magicv and emotions that are linked to it, and she could help make ponies listen and would give her something more to do than just "i WaNt A gArDeN". And just imagine if Hitch sighned up for the lessons. Oh that could be so wholesome, a begining of reconciliation between childhood friends... but nah, Sprout is just a funny ha-ha loser in the background. No need to remember him.
I love this idea for Sprout! I think this would have been an amazing way to give him a meaningful role in the story!
@@Star_Strike The class could even built that stupid garden! As a big graduation-like project. Imagine Sprout trying to work with Izzy on the artistic side of the thing as a B plot of one episode. Her chaotic energy and his "I have no idea what's going on right now" could make for some great comedy and another lesson of accepting different cultures and personality types. And Misty hiding the lantern on the construction side of the garden? Come on! We could have an actuall "murder mistery" kinda episode where entire class are the suspects. Aaaaa so much potential! Hasbro hire us. xD

I think the problem with Sunny is, that she needs to find an aim in her life now.
We learnt a lot about Sunny in the Movie. Her biggest Dream was allways, to convince the Ponies, that pegasi and unicorns aren't a thread and can be friends. She riched that goal, so now, she need to find a new passion in her life and I think helping - because she is an allicorn - is something she tries for herself.
You know, this could have actually been an arc in the show or the season she could have had. She had focused so much getting the other pony tribes to get along that she probably didn’t put focus on her other interests and hobbies and goals. It would be a good lesson for children (and even adults) about the period of being aimless and finding other goals and stuff to do in your life, especially for yourself. She can still do things like discovering herself as an alicorn, and the uncovering of history of Equestria for the new generation like Star Strike suggested.

The thing that I don’t get is that how in the hell is opaline an allicorn, I mean was she born an allicorn or did she gain the ability to become one? Yeah she doesn’t make sense in general at all.
This is why I love g4 because the way they introduce villains and flesh out them out easily. Like season 2 finale, when Cadance was acting up all shady and evil, clearly that’s not the real Cadance until she reveals herself as Chrysalis and the rest of her changeling hive coming to invade canterlot on the pretense of feeding of off everybody’s love so they can survive. Now that’s what I’d call a good villain with a good plan, clear objective, and being downright manipulative and brutal, short and to the point. It also became better when Cozy glow, Tirek and Chrysalis joined forces to become the mean 3. Oh also starlight’s backstory of why she became a villain then reformed, now that’s amazing story writing! 😎
My point is that G5 is just very confusing while Mlp: fim or G4 was just downright amazing, lovable, emotional and also short and to the point
Plot twist, Opaline is actually Flurry Heart XDD! Sorry, u said “born an alicorn” and that’s where my mind went. Anyways, u r 100% right. I honestly don’t understand how hard it is to just put a little more effort into developing good villains and plot. The creators of Gen 4 didn’t seem to have much problem w/ that at all. It’s crazy how changing a little bit in the production crew can turn a franchise from spectacular to just… a mediocre kid’s show.

I really like all these ideas, but EXPECALLY the idea with Sprout. I personally really like Sprout and hope he gets a redemption arc eventually within the series
He honestly should. And what I really hope to see from Sprout is him showing bravery and courage because that would definitely be massive character development for him
I really think Sprout should be redeemed. He was such a relatable villain and they basically make him the same half-empty coward but with no purpose, friends or a parent that actually talks to him. The episodes where Sprout actually appears and fears the worst in every scenario made me wonder what the heck Phyllis was up to. How did she feel when she heard the news that she and her son now have plant magic? Did she give the mane 5 the "okay" when they remodeled Canterlogic? What did she think of the changes? At least other supporting characters got enough screentime to further develop them and there's still a pretty open canvas with TYT's second season.
Wait wait wait. You're telling me Sunny HASN"T continued her father's research to learn and teach what really happened?!! I may not even watch the series for this.
Yeah, I've seen a lot of people saying that this was the logical next step for her and were confused as to why this hasn't happened. 😕
I'm really hoping we see more to Opaline before long, because right now she is an absolute joke of a villain. And ouir main characters don't exactly look competent by comparison when they can't seem to solve simple tasks without getting in each others' way.
I'm also not exactly thrilled with keeping the setting restricted to Maretime Bay. I'm really hoping we can explore Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood.

The magic wasn't amplifying the pony's sounds, it was amplifying sparky's sound so they could find him. Which is how they heard him singing from the brighthouse. Which is honestly even worse
These points are really good and had me thinking the same thing as well when watching. And I especially agree on you saying that G5 has potential for story telling but it's always either not explored or missed. But however what I honestly think they should change is just Sparky in a whole. They honestly need to give him a voice and an actual personality to. (And also make him a punching bag like Spike. Because that'd be funny)

This show seems to be suffering from executive meddling and strict deadlines, so the problem isn't MOSTLY whether the ideas are good or not, it's a matter of context & execution. I am not justifying the bad decisions this series have made, I am just trying to be realistic and put myself at their shoe. Nevertheless, let's be optimistic and hope for improvement, it's just like star strike said G5 has potential and I hope it realises it.
100 percent agree on the Museum idea, it's just a garden literally ties into the ability of the Earth Ponies, Earth Ponies being the primary residents of Maretime Bay, and Sunny being an Earth Pony herself, I think we'll see Sunny use more of her Earth Pony magic through out the series, but that is a side note, I could see entire plots surrounding the museum, Earth Ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns getting into disagreements about the history... it just makes more sense that ponies would be interested in honing their abilities that DIRECTLY effect them, than diving into research they don't care that much about, as you can probably tell from Ali Conned, a very flawed episode in every sense of the word, you can see that ponies aren't all that grateful toward Sunny restoring harmony, uniting all ponies, and ultimately giving them magic, these ponies just don't listen to her, or care about the things she cares about, so getting everypony into lore/history especially when all 3 races already have such ingrained perspectives, I mean the original Make Your Mark special really shows you that they are just now learning to tolerate each other, there's a matter of "what makes Earth Ponies in charge of the history, why not a museum in Bridlewood, or Zephyr Heights? Earth Ponies with earth pony magic being in charge of a garden makes sense in Maretime Bay.. Sunny I feel will be more fleshed out with the conflict leading to Opalines defeat, so much that there will need to be emphasis on her alicorn powers and why it is her that has them... I feel like they should have balanced this out better myself, but I think there solution was to pass the spotlight around and put emphasis on these characters that will ultimately have to step aside in the future for Sunny, side note : Aliconned there is NO WAY Sunny is that impressionable that she would go against her own instincts and listen to a magic mirror that acts nothing like her, 2 Sparky setting up all those elaborate traps for Misty was pretty ridiculous as well, I agree on Sparky BIG TIME but it looks to me like he's a plot crutch more than anything, he doesn't bring substance just wacky plotline potential with his magic that might literally be able to do anything... But nah your insights and ideas are good, these characters are great, they are in a mutable setting, the writing is just questionable
I think the sad part is that this easily COULD have been just as great as G4, but the potential was left untapped. You had the characters, you had the setup, you even had a mystery to get into (what really happened all those years ago with Twilight that changed Equestria.) It’s like having a gold mine and only scratching the walls.
I also think Sparky could have been a great inclusion with some different writing and even a catalyst for more of Sunny’s museum and Pip’s detective work. Dragons have been believed to be extinct for years, right? So we could have an episode where while Hitch and the others have a hilariously chaotic time trying to figure out how to take care of a baby dragon, Pip and Sunny go through as much research as possible to find out what happened to the dragons. (Maybe Misty overhears them while spying and reports to Opaline without actually seeing Sparky yet, so she doesn’t know he’s only a baby until she’s actually sent to steal him?) In the process more is uncovered about someone who did something to all the dragons, hinting at Opaline but leaving Pip and Sunny unsure if this is the same threat Twilight was talking about. Just my thoughts.
I'm currently slowly working on my own review script for Make Your Mark. I also am trying to learn a new editing software. I gotta say, I have a new respect for movie and show reviewers now because I realize how much work goes into this sort of thing. Hopefully my review will be out before Christmas.

Actually in G4 there is a bit of a connection between Cutie Mark Magic and Singing. With a character named Rae-Rae AJ’s famous childhood friend, it was explained by AJ that when Rae-Rae truly put her heart into a song he cutie-mark started shining. Now it’s not exactly amplifying sound but it does show some kind of connection there.
I like the history museum idea.
A fantastic idea for the amulet would have been: It was Misty's childhood item that Opaline found and made it EVIL! Another theory, Notice how much Ruby Jubilee looks like Misty, Are they sisters?! Maybe their parents were a pegasus and unicorn and they lived in a forest in secret. They we running low on food so the parents left to find some, The parents we gone for hours! Misty (The younger sibling) travelled out to find them, But her parents had the only map. Lost and cold, she took shelter in Opaline's Dark Castle, Where she was imprisoned. Mean while, Ruby went to Zephyr Heights to find her family. They where nowhere to be found, she wouldn't dare enter Bridlewood. he gave up her search for her family and became a songwriter later! Just a theory!

6:18 Honestly, I kind of wish they made Sparky a chaos type creature (Similar to discord) rather then a dragon. Firstly, it would have given him a much more likeable design, and secondly it adds a lot less restrictions to the character and doesn't completely throw out the logic of an already rounded species.

If I was writing it I would have her confront the town about how awful they were towards her and how they only care about her when she’s an Alicorn
The single worst, dumbest thing G5 does is try to tie into G4.
There are character issues and writing issues, yes - but if I could just change one thing for the entire concept, it'd be to just... make it a different world.
In this world of... uh... 'Horsetopia'... there are 3 types of ponies and they don't get along. But maybe once they did, as Sunny's archeologist dad is researching.
If that WAS the plot everyone would be making theories and stuff to try and prove its actually a "future equestrian" - but at least then it would be fun instead of insulting.
The kids watching are new fans. The adult fans don't want half-baked and poorly written G4 fanfiction, where we ignore all the new stuff for pathetically tiny SNIFF's of Twilight Sparkle.

I hate to remind you but Unicorns can autotune with their horns. Remember Ra Ra? Yeah, unfortunately sound manipulation through magic is well established. That's before Doc Strange and Doc Stange-er fought with actual musical notes as projectiles with magic.
These are such great changes! also that ending lol. They could fix sparky so easily but his mere existence makes me violent. only reason i like him is because he allows us to see more of hitch's character.

Another frustrating detail about "Hoof Done It?": Izzy tells Zipp that she left the lantern in the Brighthouse when she was done with it the previous night, and Pipp later tells her that she found the lantern outside the Brighthouse in the morning, and then Zipp just clears Misty as a suspect despite her STILL having no explanation as to how it was left outside IN A HALF BURIED BAG NEXT TO A SHOVEL in the first place.
I would say' the ANTAGONIST may not have been officially Opaline because. My mind, my brain, my vision tells me she is not an evil being or someone who wants chaos, just some heartbroken disrespected allicorn who also wants friends, friendship and their own rights..
Edit: also even would want a chance to embrace herself and finally gain Confidence. And even have a chance to shine & actually show she is worth being respected..
If I could change anything about all of G5, here’s what I might do
-I saw someone mention how they wish the technology and magic were used together in creative ways, like a kind controlling app was one they gave, that sounds really cool.
- change Pipp into a different musician, like maybe a jazz, classic or hawllian sounding. In contrast to Zipp, she wants to be the queen or get attention, but doesn’t from her mother or sister, so she turns to social media.
-No one in the main cast but Pipp is popular on soical media, because it takes years to get big.
-Make Zipp’s phone she records notes a notebook or a old fashioned camera. Seems more fitting,
-possibly set the technology level in a time in the mid to late 20th century.
-Possibly leave it on a cliffhanger with Sparky being stolen.
-add the classic “my little pony” to theme song.
I could think of more, but this what I got now.

@@Hadeshy You saw how they reacted to Sunny. Most ponies might even literally just fake getting along. Plus, Only Twilight seemed to get special treatment. Plus, I feel like even if it were more realistic in real life , that is a worth making because to the audience, it is.
Through really, they should just bring them down to the 40s-70s level technology. I hate the technology part, it’s so simplified and will age badly unless they be more creative and I want to avoid it, technology like this makes me feel bad about going on it for some reason.

On some episode they would treat the mane 6 like nonodies and be complete ass*oles to them, on other they would behave like they were the biggest celebrities ever. So them treating Sunny badly doesn't mean it doesn't make sense for them to be popular on social media for who they are.
Thus said, while I don't hate the whole technology part, I do agree that it will age poorly. They try to make it more relevant and attractive to young audience, but all it means is that, while G4 is ageless, G5 will quickly get old in it's references to technologies. Hell. It might get outdated while still airing.
if the current g5 comic fom idw was made definitive cannon it would add a heck of a lot more to it. The scene of sunny finally in the abandoned ruins of canterlot alone , showed the side of her that wanted to carry on her dad's work.
Just to add this to the comments, if anyone has told you this Star Strike, the song “Portrait day” actually is a verse longer on spotify! But, i think they cut it to be shorter in the series for animation purposes? The verse taken out of the episode is actually so fun! Just wanted to comment this if you did not know! Much love!
7:53 Zipp doesnʼt even need to *catch* Misty; Misty just needs slightly more reason to think she *will* so tries to avoid that. Honestly this is how I remembered the episode until you mentioned this and I watched it again, because that is so *obviously* the right way to do it. I have to wonder if that was the original plan but somewhere along the way either they cut out a part, or the script got shortened, or the animators just did a bad job of showing this.
They just have to make a new gen 6 with u as their director 😂

Personally I didn't have that much problems with Make Your Mark Chapter 2 because I honetly loved the episodes and the plots they present.
But I actually understand and see the problems in it.
I guess, now that Tell Your Tale has already touched episodes focused one or two characters and certain things from past Equestris, MYM has more time to explore other aspects of the show.
From all the episodes, Portrait of a Princess is the best one because it has that main focus on Pipp and Zipp so well that helps a lot into their development, even more that in TYT, and I feel Sunny, Hitch and Izzy also need that development of their own character.
And that also was kinda my problems with the first special, that Zipp looked like had most protagonism than Sunny, being an special rather than an 22-minutes episode.
About Sparky, I actually like him. He is just a baby so of courde he can do baby shenanigans, but I hope they don't stick too much on rely on him for the toilet humor.
And about the G4, I feel like every time it's mentioned the past of Equestria, the magic and the ponykind at all, there is this unspoken feeling that we are expecting G4 quality things in G5, rather than a connection.
I know they will address the events between G4 and G5 some time, and they know it has to be done with detail, bit by bit, so it makes sense.

While I love g5 personally, I do think that your episode ideas actually aren’t bad. I especially liked the one about Sprout because he desperately needs a proper redemption arc and you had the perfect idea for that. You might not want to get rid of Sparky though, or you’ll have to answer to insane Hitch. XD
I think only pipps cutie mark should amplify the sound considering thats basically her entire point in the show.

It’s really sad that the fans can write a better episode than the writers who I honestly feel don’t know what they’re doing. Feels like they just had a crash course in mlp and now they have to meet deadlines for a paycheck. There’s no love, no plot twists we can’t see coming, it’s too straightforward…and juvenile and I can tell the budget when mostly to animation (shoulda stuck to 2D and spent more on some writes who actually were fans of the show).

i think the biggest issue i have with these changes is the episode 5 change. even if opaline could change ponies' cutie marks, misty is under the impression that the only way for opaline to change ponies' cutie marks (read: misty's cutie mark, or lack thereof) is for her to get her full magic back, and it's a big part of what lets opaline control misty so easily. misty would not be allowed to know about that.

Changes to 3 episodes I feel like would work
Izzy Does It: The plot is changed to Izzy finding a balloon and falling down a sewer where she finds The It from A Wrinkle in Time.
Growing Pains: the plot is changed to where one pony accidentally puts his or her hoove another Pony, causing them to turn into a evil plant monster.
Ali Conned: Here are 3 plots the original can be changed to (these are not 3 plots for the episode, more like 3 choices to change the plot to):
1. Sunny is conned by another pony and everyone has to find the con-pony who conned her.
2. At the pony convention, Pennywise's balloon come and make ponies explode.
3. Sunny's wings and horn start to fade away, leading to everyone fading away.

Cutie mark is all about how you are special. And G5 is all about beaing special, being yourself and other such nonsence. Therefore, when ponies sing, they do art, they are inspired and channeling specialness-themselveness, which turns into magic through cutie marks. Here, solved it for you. Not that it makes the show any better.

I tried to make Sunny Starscout have a personality, as she is just so… bland.. and yet, she’s one of the main protagonist, and that’s saying much! So, I made up some character traits.
Sunny Starscout before becoming an alicorn was curious, enthusiastic, determined, and more. She could be a bit stubborn as well. She had this massive dream to follow her father’s footsteps, and study the history of Equestria, as well as finding ancient items, dreaming to one day build a historic museum. Her friends know about this, and plan to build one for her as a surprise on her birthday. But, when she became an alicorn and could turn it off and on, she started getting low self esteem because ponies viewed her as just some pony who was boring when trying to make differences and they usually didn’t listen to Sunny’s methods in her regular, earth pony form. However, whenever Sunny turns into a alicorn, the tables suddenly turn and she’s appreciated and the ponies listened to her words. Sunny noticed this, and eventually turned into a pony pleaser, while neglecting her own needs and always puts other ponies, especially her friends, first. Being a pony pleaser includes being in her alicorn form most of the time so that she can get the valuation from other ponies just to please them with their needs/wants. Sunny’s mental health weakens because of this. She is usually anxious as well as being exhausted being in her alicorn form most times to the point SHE HAS THE ALICORN FORM ON EVERY SINGLE DAY, ALWAYS ON. Her friends are trying to stop her pony pleasing habits, and try to teach her that she’s allowed to have her own needs, and it’s good to not neglect it.
The fact that a filly was more successful with her devious plots than a true adult Alicorn makes me laugh.
Oh my gosh, I agree that Sparky is one of the worst things about G5. Hitch went from coolest male pony to stay-at-home dad because of Sparky. He’s responsible for multiple problems and is never part of the solution, and plus, what little girl would want Sparky as a pet when anypony can see he’s totally uncontrollable and shows no sign of changing.
perhaps maybe it'll be more helpful if Sunny just wants to maybe WANTS to try and inspire others, help others learn about friendship. Similar to Twilight and the school of friendship. Or maybe she wants to tell other ponies that the history of equestria , perhaps she would want ponies to love eachother. In my opinion i wouldn't mind about her not having a "specific" goal. But "helping" isn't all that specific. Is there any feeling she'd actually going for. Because "helping" , what if it's help Opaline, or smth. It would've been better if she gave the feeling she wanted to share.

I'm a bit late to the party but I did an entire redo on Opaline's personality, manipulation tactics, and her design.
So, about her design, since her name Opaline's name has the word opal in it and Opal is contributed with the moon, I think her base color should have been a lighter color. Maybe not exactly pure white, maybe a light white color with the slightest tint of purple. Her mane also can be a little bit darker, but not too dark. I know antagonists usually has darker coloring white the protagonists are supposed to have lighter color in this show, but that is also a trick for her motives as well.
My version of Opaline is extremely manipulative and deceivingly kind and generous. Opaline speaks to Misty like a young child and acts like a mother to her when she took her in. She says stuff like "Oh, I'm so proud of you!" and "Aren't you a sweet thing!" Opaline is very calm and intelligent, she tends to take things one at a time. Also when Misty first starts to mess things up, Opaline doesn't get angry at all and just says that Misty will surely get it right next time, putting more false hope and comfort into Misty. But when Misty starts messing up more and more, Opaline will start to get a bit more agitated until the climax when (hopefully) the Mane 5 confronts Opaline and Misty. This is where Opaline completely snaps and Misty, like a raging argument.
So yeah, that is my version of Opaline.

Though (SPOILER ALERT) it’s a story that ultimately has Sunset come in for one universe and Flurry Heart comes back and stays in the second universe. It’s such a well written story, fixing every aspect of Sunny’s character, keeps Hitch’s authority status and expounds upon it, as well as puts Sprout through the best redemption arc you could possibly think of, while still managing to incorporate the new ideas Hasbro comes up with for each new episode. Pipp and Zipp have much better roles and Izzy stands out really well in Bridlewood
Everytime I see a fan project out perform a multi billion dollar company, I both cheer for their success, and bang my head against the when I compare it to Hasbro's work. XD

They need to realize that if they want to sell toys, to give their writers and show staff breathing room to do what’s necessary! Exploring the history of Equestria has been my favorite part of MLP since season 1 of G4. It was sparing, it was subtitle, it was rarely sprinkled in, but, by Celestia, it was interesting, but they're failing in G5

I think one thing that might help improved G5 in later episodes is if they bring in additional races of Ponies to the franchise, I mean even G1 MLP had Earth Ponies, Pegasi & Unicorns, but also brought in the Seaponies & Flutterponies, so G5 could bring in more Ponies to help expand the world & lore of the franchise, examples would be:
The Bat-Ponies, but instead of simply having them be like Pesasi with Bat-Wings, they could have them closer based on the Portugal Mythological creatures known as "Cavalo do Pensamento" & the "Cavalum"(try looking them up), their entire race could be called the Cavalum(both in the Singular & the Plural), and Cavalo do Pensamento could be their leader, and they could speak in Portugese thus creating a Language Barrier that the Ponies would need to overcome in order to establish good communication with each other,
The Tikbalangs, based on Philippines Mythology, if you're familiar with the Netflix series "Trese" you'd know what I'm talking about, they are basically the Horse equivalent to Minotaurs, and they could use Glamour Magic to create illusions & become invisible, seeing the Ponies having to deal with a race of Anthro-Ponies with such a power would be enough material to make at least a few episodes with,
The Inkanyambas, based on the South African Lake Monster by the same name, their basically Giant Water Serpents with Horse-like Heads, in the G4 Main Series Comics Issue #23 they almost had that with the character "Cassie the Kelpie", but despite being called a "Kelpie" her design resembled what one could take as an Inkanyamba, seeing the Ponies deal with Giant Water Ponies that they at first thought were Sea-Monsters, but later learn that they are actually friendly & come to more peaceful terms with them, and also having to deal with issues regarding their enormous size would be something that could be addressed in a few episodes,
Another thing that might help G5 is if they didn't treat their target audience like Idiots following the principle that "Kids will watch Anything" & keep overly simplifying the stories & characters, maybe then the series wouldn't be hated so badly.
To be honest, I agree with a good bit of what you said here. However, I feel a bit different with two things: "Burying the Lantern" and "Killing off Sparky" (which I'm sure the second was just a joke, anyways).
I can see the reasoning behind Misty burying the lantern because, well, it's a LANTERN. In the middle of the night. Just one simple layer of cloth over it might not be thick enough to hide the glow that the lantern naturally produces. Tie in the fact that it's somewhat connected to the lighthouse itself, and it could potentially have given her position away, even if she tossed it into a few bushes. That plus it was late at night, and she was on the verge of getting caught, meaning she likely didn't have much time to react, or think clearly. So she could've just summoned some of her Unipecker Powers like Izzy from the movie (when she casually cut down a tree with her horn in mere seconds), but turned said power into a jackhammer and punctured a hole into it JUST so she can hide the glow from the lantern.
But, being sleepy AND on high-alert, she decided to flee the scene in case Zipp decided to investigate further.
And so, instead of the lantern scene, what I would much rather prefer would've been at least a bit more background on what happened to the REST of the Mane 6 during Sunny's and maybe even Misty's backstories.
From the way Sunny told it, it was as if Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy didn't even exist in Twilight's life, and the little "paperwork story" that flashed while they told their stories didn't even have them; focusing only on Twilight.
And finally, the whole Sparky thing.
Honestly? I don't see why he's hated by so many people to the point they just want him REMOVED from the show. I mean, I get it. He's got a TON of power. Like, enough to do literally ANYTHING.
But then again, we can't say that this is the FIRST completely overpowered "Infant", either, can we? (Pumpkin Cake was able to fly before she was even out of her diapers. Pound Cake can literally bend a metal pipe with water powerful enough to reach Pinkie Pie from across the room. Hell. FLURRY HEART can blast a hole through crystal-enforced stones just by sneezing!)
That last hint, however, can raise a plausible fix for Sparky, though, and there's already been a detail that was hinted at, already. And that detail is the tree that the Mane 5 grew together earlier. Remember how Sparky touched it, and his horns started glowing, as well as the tree?
That interaction was interrupted, but we could see that the tree was CLEARLY doing something there with him, and he with it. It COULD be that the tree was trying to filter out some of that magic of his, which could also give him that much-needed "nerf" that so many people are asking for.
What I propose is that one of the future episodes touches up on that, and they can do that by making Sparky even MORE powerful.
Yeah, you heard me, Reader. Make him even MORE powerful. So powerful, in fact, that it becomes a problem that they have to solve, which will LEAD to them needing to bring him to that tree.
They COULD even use that as a plot-twist moment, in which Opaline uses THAT opportunity to make her appearance, for Misty to reveal her motives, or perhaps even both.
Hell, at THAT point, it could lead to a potential battle that was GOING to happen, but with Opaline now being at FULL power, she could just absorb the magic of the town right there, and capture everyone in Maretime Bay, including the leaders of Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood.
Then, when ALL hope seems lost, Misty can have her chance to shine, and redeem herself, once Opaline reveals her (pretty obvious) betrayal on her minion that she will NEVER get her Cutie Mark, and that she was just using her to get her powers back... perhaps Misty could even defeat Opaline with Sprout of ALL people giving her that much-needed push (and perhaps even assistance). After all, a FORMER Villain getting a Redemption Arc isn't really that uncommon for MLP.
Anyways, that was just my thoughts on this.
