I’m guessing they took over Canterlot as it’s the closest place to the clouds. I wonder what is in ponyville now, maybe just some historical landmarks or maybe a secret meeting place for ponies who still believe in friendship and unity.
....Or it was taken over by the Everfree forest. The Castle of the two sisters was already in ruins but imagine going to the G5 equivalent of the Everfree and finding the remains of Twilight's castle and the school of friendship
what if the crystal empire is the only place with mafic left. we've already seen its capable of isolating itself. so maybe the crew will find a way to bring them out of hiding and be shocked to see not only crystal ponys but magic/flying crystal ponys
Well they say the world has lost it's magic. The only way for the crystal empire to still be alive is if the ponies there didn't fall prey to the discord of negative emotions. But if they did, then the crystal heart couldn't work and the Crystal Empire would be frozen over from the constantly blizzard.
Right now this is my theory. Flurry and her kingdom cut themselves off from the majority of Equestria so they wouldn't be affected. It be really cool to see the Crystal Empire play a much bigger part in this series. Like Sunny and her friends using it as a example for the other ponies
The thing is though, the synopsis specifies that EQUESTRIA lost it's magic... But what about the rest of the world? What if it was only the ponies and Equestria as a country itself that lost its magic? And, what if the Crystal Empire separated from Equestria to make it's own country to protect it's own magic since they would literally freeze to death without it?
It would be interesting to see a full map of G5's Equestria and be able to compare it to G4's Equestria so we can see what's changed (or maybe what's not changed), perhaps we could speculate on the timeline and on how & why those changes happened. (Also is there any known canonical world maps for the G1 & G3 cartoon's setting, that might be useful..?)

this is interesting to see pegasi might be ruling what canterlot was! in g4, we knew unicorns were the "superior race". after the "fake flying" theory from a previous video, it would make a lot of sense for these pegasi to take over, because they could make the argument of "pegasi have more power than the unicorns, unicorns are nothing without their magic, whereas we can still fly" (obviously not being able to, but from the vibe we get from queen haven, i wouldnt be surprised if something like this went down....)
When you think about it, Equestrian royal guard and the Wonderbolts are mostly pegasi. When magic disappeared, guess who would hold the biggest leverage.
FUN FACT: Zephyr is actually short for Zephyrus which is the Greek god of the west wind!! His name created the word Zephyr which means a westerly or gentle breeze.
My theory about the Crystal Empire is that it split off from Equestria as it's own country because Equestria no longer wanted to be ruled by an Alicorn after magic vanished because they blamed magic being lost on Twilight's teachings after she passed and turned away from friendship. So they wouldn't let Flurry Heart or the Royal Sisters help keep the races together and forced them to leave to the Crystal Empire. Spike, angry at Equestria for abandoning Twilight and the Mane Six's hard work, would abandon Equestria and go to the Crystal Empire because he is both Flurry Heart's last family (he is her adopted uncle after all and probably babysat her a lot with Twilight) and they would still respect and honour him for saving them in the past. With Spike's connections to Dragon Lord Ember and Changling King Thorax, the Crystal Empire became a secret place of unity and friendship that worked to protect the last bits of magic with an agreement struck between the three species to help one another with the dragons and their super powerful fire being enough to keep the Empire from freezing. This is why it doesn't appear on the Modern Equestria's map; because like District 13 in the Hunger Games or Wakanda in the MCU, they don't think it exists anymore or think that it is actually inportant. That way at least Spike gets to somewhat keep a shred of Twilight's legacy alive and actually makes him an important figure of peace and unity in Modern Equestria. But Equestria would shun the Empire and Crystal ponies for betraying their own kind for dragons and changlings, so across the centuries they would spread the false news and eventual history of the Empire's collapse to avoid greedy Equestrians from trying to steal the last piece of magic in the world which is why Sunny and Co don't know about It. Because of this, Spike, Flurry Heart and the Royal Sisters are all falsely assumed dead. So basically, Spike is the Ahsoka Tano of FiM (TCW) to Gen 5 (Rebels) and can be a precious kid turned badass that acts as a mentor to the new characters and remembers the old times as an active participant that Equestria (The Empire) believe was dead only to save the new kids and reveal he is alive and become enemy number 1.
I like this theory. Another one I thought of was that when the war between the ponies was really getting bad, Twilight and the other alicorns fled to the Equestria Girls dimension. I’m guessing the gap between G4 and G5 is about 180 years since it’s basically the industrial revolution and modern times respectively, so there would definitely be things from the old world still around, and it’s also why the old station in Zephyr Heights is still intact.
I remember seeing this haunting piece of fan art on ig that depicted Sunny visiting an abandoned Canterlot with the statue of the mane 6 seen at the end of season 9 still standing in the middle of city. I was hoping they’d explore something like that in the film or the show, but I love this angle as well. The idea of the Pegasi taking over and renaming it, it’s something else.

It actually sounds very poetic for the School of Friendship to be abandoned and decrepit seeing as the ponies have forgotten the very concept of friendship; The ultimate lesson that the Mane 6 sought to teach. Same with Twilight's castle. I'm also curious about other places such as Ponyville and the Apple Family Farm. Who might be running the farm now if it is possibly still around? All very interesting questions. Whereas before it was Ponyville, Canterlot, and Cloudsdale, now it's Maretime Bay, Zephyr Heights, and Bridlewood.

Yes, that actually makes sense since the crystal heart magic being love and other things it could be that when the paranoia and mistrust reached the Crystal Empire the Crystal Heart stopped working and then it disappeared or something like that.

Hmm, at first I thought that Maretime Bay lined up more with those rocky shores near Mt. Arris mostly due to it's far southern placement in that pic. But now that I look closer it does look more like the old Baltimare / Horseshoe Bay region. Maybe the person who put that pic together just took some liberties and moved things around just to get the three main locations from the movie into the pic. That, or there have been some serious geological upheavals in Equestria!
Nevermind, after checking both pictures together I've figured out that they didn't extend the sea, but rather, are not showing the bottom part of equestria, so they added a line to cut where the map ends. That can be supported by the fact that we see a bush or forest below Maretime Bay's name, but we see ocean waves drawn right to the bush or forest
Pegasus family styles themselves as being royalty, so it makes sense they would try to take the royal city. It is also possible that they are actual royalty, and part of what happened to Equestria was the alicorns, instead of trying to find good and worthy heirs when they retired, passed rulership to their offspring-who might not be alicorns or worthy if it. The queen and princesses might really be descended from the alicorns that once ruled there, but from an ancestor who never rose to the task of becoming an alicorn and showing worthiness-yet still inherited the throne.
Remember how in season 8 finale, after the monsters lost their magic, they turned into regular animals. I think that without magic, windigos cannot exist.
@@joshblackwell8632 I really think the unicorn got the short end of the stick losing Canterlot the only unicorn city. While the pegasus lost two major cities (los Pegasus maybe and cloudsdale), but they at least got Canterlot. And I think the earth pony are good as they seem to have beautiful towns and good lives as their lives mostly consisted of not relying on magical abilities.
Don’t worry about canterlot being renamed. No matter what happens to those places or who rename them, they will always stay the same in our hearts.🌎🦄❤️

I imagine 1 of 2 possibilities: 1. The Crystal Empire was frozen over by the blizzard and everyone is dead 2. Flurry Heart used her last remaining magic to relocate the Crystal Empire and hide it from the world. Though I can think of a third possibility. Crystal Empire being the only place left with Magic and Flurry hiding it from the other ponies to avoid war
It's unlikely that Zephyr Heights was named after Fluttershy's brother, funny thought though. The rich elite earth ponies could not keep Canterlot with all their wealth, so I guess in their arrogance the pegasi overthrew them. Perhaps Twilight was not around to keep the peace or prevent a forced takeover. I don't think the Crystal Empire is troubled by Sombra this time due to his reformation in the IDW comics, I would imagine the empire fell prey to hungry gem-eating dragons reducing it to rubble. Pony races are definitely not the only ones to breakaway their alliance but also the yaks, hippogriffs, griffons, changelings and dragons, despite the Young Six's efforts. It's exciting to watch the clues unfold to find out the truth.
Crystal empire and Cloudsdale are most likely gone. Since no magic means that Cloudsdale fell and hit the ground destroying where it landed the crystal empire most likely the heart lost its power and the whole place snow buried in snow and or destroyed
Actually the ponies would only fall from the sky, and perhaps a bunch of furniture because the houses and Cloudsdale are all made of cloud. Pegasi are only able to walk on clouds because they themselves have flight magic that also makes it so they can walk on clouds. Magic making them able to fly makes sense because in the show, their wings are much too small to ever lift them off the ground without magical help, if you ask me, to be able to fly without magic, Pegasi would have to have Alicorn sized wings, and alicorn's wings would have to be MUCH bigger since they grow to be so much taller and larger than regular ponies. Of course their are exceptions like Fleur De Lis and certain Earth Ponies but we've yet to see a tall looking Pegasus.
Yeah, it sure seems like something along those lines happened. Maybe Cloudsdale fell without magic, which caused the pegasi to have to relocate to Canterlot (its altitude and proximity to Cloudsdale being the reasons they chose Canterlot). It is very unfortunate though since Cloudsdale was one of the most interesting locations in MLP. The city had so much potential and was really unfortunately underutilized by the writers, and now it looks like might be completely gone. Hopefully another Cloud city will pop up in G5 at some point (considering it is likely magic will be regained in the movie). Also, I hope they don't try to ruin pegasi in this generation by making them all look mean and antagonistic. Luckily it's unlikely that would be the case, but with Queen Haven looking antagonistic and Canterlot being taken by the pegasi, it kind of makes it seem that way.
Answers the question I asked last video about there being wars in the mlp universe. Surprised that the pegasi couldn't maintain air superiority, command and control. Another question is are there battlefields? Battlefields isn't just a piece of land, it's scars. Because nations are forged by the sword. You don't just see it, you feel it.
The pegasi takeover of Canterlot is crucial. It was probably slow at first, then picked up speed once they had established a definite majority and rename the city after themselves: Zephyr Heights (Zephyr for clouds). Having possession of the old capital would seemingly justify the pegasi claim to rule Equestria and name their leader as king or queen. Of course, this would also seriously elevate their ego. They would have made any unicorns or earth ponies still living in the old capital feel VERY out of place, so they would finally leave.
I bet Josh is going to LOVE this! The Equestrian royal guard (which has been shown to be primarily composed of unicorns) is so incompetent that they couldn’t even defend Canterlot against a bunch of flightless Pegasi. THE MOST ELITE UNICORN SOLDIERS WERE BESTED BY A BUNCH OF CIVILIAN PEGASI THAT COULD’NT EVEN FLY! Alright, hilariously incompetent royal guard aside, I’ve actually been working on a theory about g5 for a while now and this new revelation only strengthens the theory. I think I know how Equestria might have lost its magic. Do you remember the Rainbow Road-trip special? You know, the one that was animated in the same style as the 2017 mlp movie? Well, in that movie, the town lost its color because the townsponies shut themselves off from each other and grew distant from the community. Twilight says that it’s a type of magic called “hopelessness magic” and that the mayor had the order of events wrong. The mayor thought that the reason the town lost its color was because of the failed rainbow generator, but the town started losing its color BEFORE the generator blew up. Why is this important? Simple, I think the loss of magic in Equestria came AFTER the ponies had divided themselves by race, not before. Picture this if you will, Princess Twilight Sparkle (who at this point had far outlived her friends and been successfully ruling Equestria for countless years) suddenly disappeared without warning or reason. The three pony races work together to try and find her, but they never manage to locate the missing Princess. Eventually, a new ruler must be chosen to lead Equestria. Each of the three races think that the new ruler should be somepony from their tribe, but nopony can agree on anything. Eventually, negotiations break down and the three tribes are fighting for the right to rule. After lots of fighting and hatred, the Pegasi successfully capture the ancient unicorn city of Canterlot and drive all remaining unicorns into the forests for safety. The Pegasi now have control over the Equestrian capital, but the victory had come at a price. With countless battles waged and the alliance of the three tribes thoroughly shattered, most ponies throughout Equestria give into hopelessness at the thought of Equestria ever becoming whole again, and that is when the magic begins to fade away. With everypony either depressed or furious because of the events of the war, the three races completely loss their magic and eventually loss contact with each other all together. The Pegasi, ow unable to return to Cloudsdale, convert Canterlot into their new home. The unicorns remain hidden in the forests like elves after being driven away from the Equestrian capital. As for the Earth Ponies, they pretty much have free reign of all the old towns and territories that were abandoned during the war. All of these events gradually leading the world to where g5 will begin. If this theory of mine is correct, it would explain quite a lot about what happened to the peaceful Equestria we knew that turned it into the Equestria of g5. However, I think that it would best explain how magic could be restored to Equestria through the efforts of Sunny and her friends. Since magic had left Equestria because of the fighting between the ponies, Sunny’s group reestablishing friendship between the three races would be exactly what is needed to bring the magic back. It isn’t a perfect theory, but I really do like it.
I thought Zephyr Heights must me some cloud city like Cloudsdale or Las Pegasus until I remembered that ponies lost their magical abilities, including walking on clouds for pegasi!
Good eye there, Doc! I would have had to use a magnifier to pick out the spots off the line-drawn map. Not surprised to see Canterlot renamed. Maybe there's no Ponyville or Applewood or Los Pegisus anymore either. I'll venture to guess for G5, the shape of the landmasses of Equestria are them same but most if not all the known towns, cities and important places from G4 are no more.
Pip's wings really do bother me like why the heck is it so short compared to her mom and sister. Her wings do look more fluffy, I don't know much about flight since I'm not a bird but I don't think her wings would be trong enough to carry all her weight. Unless she's just tucking it all in since their royal flight are fake and that style is cute on her? Is she actually like Scootaloo? No way would she be able to fly even after magic is restored. But believe it or not... I actually like that idea. It's like it wouldn't be the usual happy ending that we'd be expecting nor the ending that were used to in these kinds of franchises
I like to think she got it from her father or maybe a grandparent. Also, even if her wings are like Scoots, I feel that she'll be able to fly because she's royalty. Hopefully the movie tells.
@@jasminepradier6809 a disabled royalty is something that is yet to be seen on animated films. I think I'd like that idea if they go with it. It's rare and fresh. But if Pipp will be able to fly in the end that's still fine. The story and character's personalities oughta be entertaining enough.

After all she is a princess and from the way their mother looks it looks the the now monarchy is strict enough so that no one would ever speak bad about them. Not to mention the royals are the only pegasi believed to fly so no one has anything bad to say about her. Besides, I think being a target of bullying just because you're disabled, which does happen in real life, is a bit overrated in animated films. There are actually actually times when the disabled kids isn't bullied at all. Some kids in wheelchair even end up as the boss of their class 😂 So we don't really need her to be bullied. Just that she would have to accept her inability to fly in the end.

If the Pegasus did take control of Canterlot, then that is very shocking and surprising to me. As for the other places on the map, if they are older places from Friendship is Magic, then wow. That is actually pretty cool.

While I can see the Pegasus, unicorns and earth ponies fighting over the last bits of magic this makes me wonder a about the other species in equestria. Such as the dragons, griffins,yaks,hippogryphs,kirins ,deer, changelings, discord, etc. it makes me wonder if they chose to cut ties once things started getting out of hand with the ponies.
What if the reason why the crystal empire isn't on the is because Flurry cut ties with the rest of equestria to protect her people because of the rising tentions between races. I think she just went and isolated the crystal empire to prevent the other ponies from going in there to spread 'chaos' If that's the case, it's reasonable to exclude it from the map because its not a part of Equestria anymore
Well i hope the lack of magic thing doesnt apply to everything else beside Ponies, or yeah not only Crystal Heart and Crystal Ponies would die but also Discord would die since he is like made out of magic
@@RubixPsyche did the magic disappear over night or did it disappear gradually? Could contingency be made or are there pockets of magic still existing? There is so much still left to learn and truly hope the writers and artists take advantage of this. G5 would be far more interesting of these pony subspecies survived in their own creative or unique ways instead of simply dying out. The latter would be such lazy writing.
Now that I think of it... How are the sun and moon being raised and lowered without magic? I thought unicorn and/or alicorn magic was necessary to move them, I wonder what's changed?
I'm actually hoping more and more that G5 is set in an alternate universe. I don't like the idea of pony tribes being separated with little to no friendship to be seen in the G4 universe future. That would have screwed up all of Twilight's work as well as her friends.
I completely forgot that they probably couldn't walk on clouds anymore, makes sense they'd go to the highest point possible. I wonder if there are legends of a hidden city in the sky full of treasure that brave adventurers seek. A plot line that turns the rainbow factory on again would be cool. It would also be interesting if the crystal empire saw what was happening to equestria and shut itself away voluntarily. Maybe Flurry Heart panicked and broke the empire away? I'm getting really excited for g5 now. There is so much potential for awesome stories and grand adventures!
also i noticed that the old throne room or something like the old castle rooms was hidden in zephyr heights. it has twilights cutie mark in stained glass and a similar style to fridenship is magic canterlot stained glass

I did not see that coming. But, when you think about it, it does make sense, and answer some questions. With the magic of Equestria gone, and the pegasi losing the ability to fly, they would also lose the ability to walk on clouds, so Cloudsdale can't possibly exist anymore. The pegasi would still want to live up closer to the sky, and the next, and most obvious place would be Canterlot itself! It's on a higher elevation than any other pony town.
I’ve seen a theroy floating around that queen haven is the one who caused the death ( or dispaerance personally I think she’s stone) of twilight or maybe AND BOI IS THAT MORE LIKELY NOW

I can't miss some of the old stuff on generation 4 where generation 5 is overtaking it and new kingdoms are being made with the new Queen in charge Celestia was just a princess even for her old age
I find it likely that when magic was beginning to fail, Flurry Heart likely found a way to blip the Crystal Empire in the same way that Sombra had, allowing them to time skip the disaster, which meant the Empire will likely return again during the series. As another poster commented, the other Alicorns may have taken shelter in the Crystal Emipre, but I find that unlikely, as if Celestia and Luna were still alive, they would have attempted to fight the disaster along with Twilight, whom I believe was still alive at the time of the disaster, henc why she clearly left a path to restoring magic. Cadence, however, may still be in the Crystal Empire with Flurry. As for Spike, Ember, and Thorax, they all may have lifespans to still exist at in this time. I fully expect Spike to appear in G5 as an Elder Dragon.
Whether or not the Crystal Empire is still there would depend largely on how quickly they could develop a technological means of protecting the Empire from the extreme cold once they realized that the magic that was protecting them was disappearing. Or maybe it's become an ice cavern where they need the right balance of heat to avoid freezing to death without melting the ice walls protecting them from the outside world.
My nerd self “Yay maps.” But yeah kinda surprised, I figured the city was either abandoned or ruled by the unicorns, not Pegasi. Also surprised that it appears that practically everything got a name change, seems a bit extreme for a in-universe standpoint and also strange for a out of universe stand point. You would think marketing would want to be able to point at the map and go “hey remember this!”
Since the map of new Equestria only shows certain locations, i wonder if it'll be like the cutie mark map in G4 by that i mean what if every other location on the Equestria map became lost and every time Sunny and friends find these locations they magically reappear on the map?...i mean that probably won't happen but it would be interesting!
I think Canterlot was more likely just abandoned, and the pegasis just took over instead. If as you proposed the unicorn would have seeked any sources of magic that they could still use, like the everfree as you proposed that it has it's own wild brand of magic to it. I do like that the different areas of Equestria has been renamed. Sa for Zephyr Breeze being related to Zephyr Hights, I doubt that he was alive when the magic disapeared, at best maybe one of his very distant decentents might had a hoof in it or is just freak coincidence.
It kinda makes sense. Why would the Unicorns stay in a place that no longer held a ruling power, especially when the magic left. And since unicorns love their power and magic, no doubt they'd go to wherever they could gather enough magic to keep up their "prestige", at least until all magic disappeared and they had to do whatever they could to either keep what little they still had or to stay hidden out of shame for letting magic run out. After all this would be years, if not generations go by, so the "hoity toity elite" of Canterlot's unicorn population would be long gone or too old to care anymore. I do like that things may still be very much connected to G4, and cannot wait for more images to arise, especially more maps.
Maybe the Pegasus style their mane after styles invented by Zephyr Breeze and he's seen as some sort of historic big shot. You could have Sunny, knowing about Fluttershy, try in vain to correct them that Zephyr was no big shot. Haha. Not gonna happen, but would be a laugh.

I wonder if we will see siege of Canterlot in some cutscene if case of overtake city with force is thing which happened, since pegasai cant fly anymore at that point most likely if it comes to Zephyr to be significant culture figure in future, that can be interesting, either after show events he did something real or something went to make him legend by mistake/lies crystal empire would surely go hiding or something like that since if three main pony races are against each other, minor ones (crystal and bat ponies) I would expect going to isolation and separation from others too, I wonder where in taht all stands other species, gryfons, hypogryfons, yaks, changelings, kirin and dragons had own states, I would assume, durning show events so they most likely have their states once again separated too (if any of those races will be utilized durning G5) or being gone for whatever reasons
0:53 I think it’s possible that it still exists but it probably is so worn down because since the pegasi can’t fly without magic, they can’t fly to their old location (if they were originally gonna live there if they still had magic) so since mountains are usually are pretty high up (well at least at its peak) taking over canterlot makes so much sense (if it’s the same mountain)
I just want it to be good. So many people are saying that there's a chance it may be too political (which could be a problem if every other line is heavy handed social commentary), but so long as they don't take the star wars route of saying "all of the old heroes actually suck and our new ones are cool" then that's a start.
Seeing how with gen 4, many fans think of new ways to expand the world of mlp and even make some new countries of their own. Maybe the staff of gen 5 will do exactly that. Although I am hoping that thestrials (aka bat ponies) could be explored a bit more.
I've always been way too invested in the history and politics of Fake Horse World, but the idea of magic being lost and the races falling into tribalism and conquest again has me genuinely invested. Especially since we know (if the history in Hearth's Warming Eve is true and not fictionalized) that the constant animosity is a ticking time bomb to bring on a new ice age.
I can imagine unicorns being a weaker, more delicate pony race without magic, since they are so dependent on it. I would not be surprised if the pegasai, being more militaristic and having more physical strength, were able to drive them out and take over the city. I wonder what happened to Alicorns being symbols of royalty though. I hope that at least Twilight makes a cameo in Gen 5. I would also love to see what happened to the treehouse of friendship, twilight's castle, and the ruins of the castle of the two sisters. It would be cool to see those places as ancient ruins of a time long past to give some context to the Gen 5 timeline.
A Fight is not the only option. It might have been normal migration with Pegasi moving to the ground in mass flocking around certain areas and the other tribes vacating them.

Well they say the world has lost it's magic. The only way for the crystal empire to still be alive is if the ponies there didn't fall prey to the discord of negative emotions. But if they did, then the crystal heart couldn't work and the Crystal Empire would be frozen over from the constantly blizzard.
Right now this is my theory. Flurry and her kingdom cut themselves off from the majority of Equestria so they wouldn't be affected. It be really cool to see the Crystal Empire play a much bigger part in this series. Like Sunny and her friends using it as a example for the other ponies
The thing is though, the synopsis specifies that EQUESTRIA lost it's magic... But what about the rest of the world? What if it was only the ponies and Equestria as a country itself that lost its magic? And, what if the Crystal Empire separated from Equestria to make it's own country to protect it's own magic since they would literally freeze to death without it?

this is interesting to see pegasi might be ruling what canterlot was! in g4, we knew unicorns were the "superior race". after the "fake flying" theory from a previous video, it would make a lot of sense for these pegasi to take over, because they could make the argument of "pegasi have more power than the unicorns, unicorns are nothing without their magic, whereas we can still fly" (obviously not being able to, but from the vibe we get from queen haven, i wouldnt be surprised if something like this went down....)
When you think about it, Equestrian royal guard and the Wonderbolts are mostly pegasi. When magic disappeared, guess who would hold the biggest leverage.

FUN FACT: Zephyr is actually short for Zephyrus which is the Greek god of the west wind!! His name created the word Zephyr which means a westerly or gentle breeze.
My theory about the Crystal Empire is that it split off from Equestria as it's own country because Equestria no longer wanted to be ruled by an Alicorn after magic vanished because they blamed magic being lost on Twilight's teachings after she passed and turned away from friendship. So they wouldn't let Flurry Heart or the Royal Sisters help keep the races together and forced them to leave to the Crystal Empire. Spike, angry at Equestria for abandoning Twilight and the Mane Six's hard work, would abandon Equestria and go to the Crystal Empire because he is both Flurry Heart's last family (he is her adopted uncle after all and probably babysat her a lot with Twilight) and they would still respect and honour him for saving them in the past. With Spike's connections to Dragon Lord Ember and Changling King Thorax, the Crystal Empire became a secret place of unity and friendship that worked to protect the last bits of magic with an agreement struck between the three species to help one another with the dragons and their super powerful fire being enough to keep the Empire from freezing. This is why it doesn't appear on the Modern Equestria's map; because like District 13 in the Hunger Games or Wakanda in the MCU, they don't think it exists anymore or think that it is actually inportant. That way at least Spike gets to somewhat keep a shred of Twilight's legacy alive and actually makes him an important figure of peace and unity in Modern Equestria. But Equestria would shun the Empire and Crystal ponies for betraying their own kind for dragons and changlings, so across the centuries they would spread the false news and eventual history of the Empire's collapse to avoid greedy Equestrians from trying to steal the last piece of magic in the world which is why Sunny and Co don't know about It. Because of this, Spike, Flurry Heart and the Royal Sisters are all falsely assumed dead.
So basically, Spike is the Ahsoka Tano of FiM (TCW) to Gen 5 (Rebels) and can be a precious kid turned badass that acts as a mentor to the new characters and remembers the old times as an active participant that Equestria (The Empire) believe was dead only to save the new kids and reveal he is alive and become enemy number 1.

I like this theory. Another one I thought of was that when the war between the ponies was really getting bad, Twilight and the other alicorns fled to the Equestria Girls dimension. I’m guessing the gap between G4 and G5 is about 180 years since it’s basically the industrial revolution and modern times respectively, so there would definitely be things from the old world still around, and it’s also why the old station in Zephyr Heights is still intact.
I remember seeing this haunting piece of fan art on ig that depicted Sunny visiting an abandoned Canterlot with the statue of the mane 6 seen at the end of season 9 still standing in the middle of city. I was hoping they’d explore something like that in the film or the show, but I love this angle as well. The idea of the Pegasi taking over and renaming it, it’s something else.

Hmm, at first I thought that Maretime Bay lined up more with those rocky shores near Mt. Arris mostly due to it's far southern placement in that pic. But now that I look closer it does look more like the old Baltimare / Horseshoe Bay region. Maybe the person who put that pic together just took some liberties and moved things around just to get the three main locations from the movie into the pic. That, or there have been some serious geological upheavals in Equestria!

Pegasus family styles themselves as being royalty, so it makes sense they would try to take the royal city. It is also possible that they are actual royalty, and part of what happened to Equestria was the alicorns, instead of trying to find good and worthy heirs when they retired, passed rulership to their offspring-who might not be alicorns or worthy if it.
The queen and princesses might really be descended from the alicorns that once ruled there, but from an ancestor who never rose to the task of becoming an alicorn and showing worthiness-yet still inherited the throne.
Or it's carelessly occupied.

Remember how in season 8 finale, after the monsters lost their magic, they turned into regular animals. I think that without magic, windigos cannot exist.

If you think about it, is if the villains win somehow: the banishment of magic from Cozy Glow and the mistrust and paranoia provoked by Chrysalis
expect there's just one problem, with most of the magic gone, then that means the crystal empire's heart has likely lost it's magic too, meaning the empire either has or will succumb to the frozen north
I imagine 1 of 2 possibilities:
1. The Crystal Empire was frozen over by the blizzard and everyone is dead
2. Flurry Heart used her last remaining magic to relocate the Crystal Empire and hide it from the world.
Though I can think of a third possibility. Crystal Empire being the only place left with Magic and Flurry hiding it from the other ponies to avoid war
4th possibility: The crystal ponies relocated deep underground.

It's unlikely that Zephyr Heights was named after Fluttershy's brother, funny thought though. The rich elite earth ponies could not keep Canterlot with all their wealth, so I guess in their arrogance the pegasi overthrew them. Perhaps Twilight was not around to keep the peace or prevent a forced takeover. I don't think the Crystal Empire is troubled by Sombra this time due to his reformation in the IDW comics, I would imagine the empire fell prey to hungry gem-eating dragons reducing it to rubble. Pony races are definitely not the only ones to breakaway their alliance but also the yaks, hippogriffs, griffons, changelings and dragons, despite the Young Six's efforts. It's exciting to watch the clues unfold to find out the truth.
Crystal empire and Cloudsdale are most likely gone. Since no magic means that Cloudsdale fell and hit the ground destroying where it landed the crystal empire most likely the heart lost its power and the whole place snow buried in snow and or destroyed

Actually the ponies would only fall from the sky, and perhaps a bunch of furniture because the houses and Cloudsdale are all made of cloud. Pegasi are only able to walk on clouds because they themselves have flight magic that also makes it so they can walk on clouds. Magic making them able to fly makes sense because in the show, their wings are much too small to ever lift them off the ground without magical help, if you ask me, to be able to fly without magic, Pegasi would have to have Alicorn sized wings, and alicorn's wings would have to be MUCH bigger since they grow to be so much taller and larger than regular ponies. Of course their are exceptions like Fleur De Lis and certain Earth Ponies but we've yet to see a tall looking Pegasus.

Yeah, it sure seems like something along those lines happened. Maybe Cloudsdale fell without magic, which caused the pegasi to have to relocate to Canterlot (its altitude and proximity to Cloudsdale being the reasons they chose Canterlot). It is very unfortunate though since Cloudsdale was one of the most interesting locations in MLP. The city had so much potential and was really unfortunately underutilized by the writers, and now it looks like might be completely gone. Hopefully another Cloud city will pop up in G5 at some point (considering it is likely magic will be regained in the movie).
Also, I hope they don't try to ruin pegasi in this generation by making them all look mean and antagonistic. Luckily it's unlikely that would be the case, but with Queen Haven looking antagonistic and Canterlot being taken by the pegasi, it kind of makes it seem that way.
Answers the question I asked last video about there being wars in the mlp universe. Surprised that the pegasi couldn't maintain air superiority, command and control. Another question is are there battlefields? Battlefields isn't just a piece of land, it's scars. Because nations are forged by the sword. You don't just see it, you feel it.
The pegasi takeover of Canterlot is crucial. It was probably slow at first, then picked up speed once they had established a definite majority and rename the city after themselves: Zephyr Heights (Zephyr for clouds). Having possession of the old capital would seemingly justify the pegasi claim to rule Equestria and name their leader as king or queen. Of course, this would also seriously elevate their ego. They would have made any unicorns or earth ponies still living in the old capital feel VERY out of place, so they would finally leave.
I'm already imagining the M5 rediscovering the Crystal Empire by accident and meeting with a very old Princess Flurryheart, that would be so cool.
I bet Josh is going to LOVE this! The Equestrian royal guard (which has been shown to be primarily composed of unicorns) is so incompetent that they couldn’t even defend Canterlot against a bunch of flightless Pegasi. THE MOST ELITE UNICORN SOLDIERS WERE BESTED BY A BUNCH OF CIVILIAN PEGASI THAT COULD’NT EVEN FLY! Alright, hilariously incompetent royal guard aside, I’ve actually been working on a theory about g5 for a while now and this new revelation only strengthens the theory. I think I know how Equestria might have lost its magic. Do you remember the Rainbow Road-trip special? You know, the one that was animated in the same style as the 2017 mlp movie? Well, in that movie, the town lost its color because the townsponies shut themselves off from each other and grew distant from the community. Twilight says that it’s a type of magic called “hopelessness magic” and that the mayor had the order of events wrong. The mayor thought that the reason the town lost its color was because of the failed rainbow generator, but the town started losing its color BEFORE the generator blew up. Why is this important? Simple, I think the loss of magic in Equestria came AFTER the ponies had divided themselves by race, not before. Picture this if you will, Princess Twilight Sparkle (who at this point had far outlived her friends and been successfully ruling Equestria for countless years) suddenly disappeared without warning or reason. The three pony races work together to try and find her, but they never manage to locate the missing Princess. Eventually, a new ruler must be chosen to lead Equestria. Each of the three races think that the new ruler should be somepony from their tribe, but nopony can agree on anything. Eventually, negotiations break down and the three tribes are fighting for the right to rule. After lots of fighting and hatred, the Pegasi successfully capture the ancient unicorn city of Canterlot and drive all remaining unicorns into the forests for safety. The Pegasi now have control over the Equestrian capital, but the victory had come at a price. With countless battles waged and the alliance of the three tribes thoroughly shattered, most ponies throughout Equestria give into hopelessness at the thought of Equestria ever becoming whole again, and that is when the magic begins to fade away. With everypony either depressed or furious because of the events of the war, the three races completely loss their magic and eventually loss contact with each other all together. The Pegasi, ow unable to return to Cloudsdale, convert Canterlot into their new home. The unicorns remain hidden in the forests like elves after being driven away from the Equestrian capital. As for the Earth Ponies, they pretty much have free reign of all the old towns and territories that were abandoned during the war. All of these events gradually leading the world to where g5 will begin. If this theory of mine is correct, it would explain quite a lot about what happened to the peaceful Equestria we knew that turned it into the Equestria of g5. However, I think that it would best explain how magic could be restored to Equestria through the efforts of Sunny and her friends. Since magic had left Equestria because of the fighting between the ponies, Sunny’s group reestablishing friendship between the three races would be exactly what is needed to bring the magic back. It isn’t a perfect theory, but I really do like it.
I only hope the history is good.

Good eye there, Doc! I would have had to use a magnifier to pick out the spots off the line-drawn map. Not surprised to see Canterlot renamed. Maybe there's no Ponyville or Applewood or Los Pegisus anymore either. I'll venture to guess for G5, the shape of the landmasses of Equestria are them same but most if not all the known towns, cities and important places from G4 are no more.

Pip's wings really do bother me like why the heck is it so short compared to her mom and sister. Her wings do look more fluffy, I don't know much about flight since I'm not a bird but I don't think her wings would be trong enough to carry all her weight. Unless she's just tucking it all in since their royal flight are fake and that style is cute on her?

Besides, I think being a target of bullying just because you're disabled, which does happen in real life, is a bit overrated in animated films.
There are actually actually times when the disabled kids isn't bullied at all. Some kids in wheelchair even end up as the boss of their class 😂

If the Pegasus did take control of Canterlot, then that is very shocking and surprising to me. As for the other places on the map, if they are older places from Friendship is Magic, then wow. That is actually pretty cool.

While I can see the Pegasus, unicorns and earth ponies fighting over the last bits of magic this makes me wonder a about the other species in equestria. Such as the dragons, griffins,yaks,hippogryphs,kirins ,deer, changelings, discord, etc. it makes me wonder if they chose to cut ties once things started getting out of hand with the ponies.
What if the reason why the crystal empire isn't on the is because Flurry cut ties with the rest of equestria to protect her people because of the rising tentions between races. I think she just went and isolated the crystal empire to prevent the other ponies from going in there to spread 'chaos'
If that's the case, it's reasonable to exclude it from the map because its not a part of Equestria anymore

@@RubixPsyche did the magic disappear over night or did it disappear gradually? Could contingency be made or are there pockets of magic still existing? There is so much still left to learn and truly hope the writers and artists take advantage of this. G5 would be far more interesting of these pony subspecies survived in their own creative or unique ways instead of simply dying out. The latter would be such lazy writing.

I'm actually hoping more and more that G5 is set in an alternate universe. I don't like the idea of pony tribes being separated with little to no friendship to be seen in the G4 universe future. That would have screwed up all of Twilight's work as well as her friends.
I completely forgot that they probably couldn't walk on clouds anymore, makes sense they'd go to the highest point possible. I wonder if there are legends of a hidden city in the sky full of treasure that brave adventurers seek. A plot line that turns the rainbow factory on again would be cool.
It would also be interesting if the crystal empire saw what was happening to equestria and shut itself away voluntarily. Maybe Flurry Heart panicked and broke the empire away?
I'm getting really excited for g5 now. There is so much potential for awesome stories and grand adventures!

I did not see that coming. But, when you think about it, it does make sense, and answer some questions. With the magic of Equestria gone, and the pegasi losing the ability to fly, they would also lose the ability to walk on clouds, so Cloudsdale can't possibly exist anymore. The pegasi would still want to live up closer to the sky, and the next, and most obvious place would be Canterlot itself! It's on a higher elevation than any other pony town.

I can't miss some of the old stuff on generation 4 where generation 5 is overtaking it and new kingdoms are being made with the new Queen in charge Celestia was just a princess even for her old age
I find it likely that when magic was beginning to fail, Flurry Heart likely found a way to blip the Crystal Empire in the same way that Sombra had, allowing them to time skip the disaster, which meant the Empire will likely return again during the series. As another poster commented, the other Alicorns may have taken shelter in the Crystal Emipre, but I find that unlikely, as if Celestia and Luna were still alive, they would have attempted to fight the disaster along with Twilight, whom I believe was still alive at the time of the disaster, henc why she clearly left a path to restoring magic. Cadence, however, may still be in the Crystal Empire with Flurry.
As for Spike, Ember, and Thorax, they all may have lifespans to still exist at in this time. I fully expect Spike to appear in G5 as an Elder Dragon.
If Maretime Bay is in the same place as Baltimare, what happened to the whole bottom half of the continent?!

Whether or not the Crystal Empire is still there would depend largely on how quickly they could develop a technological means of protecting the Empire from the extreme cold once they realized that the magic that was protecting them was disappearing. Or maybe it's become an ice cavern where they need the right balance of heat to avoid freezing to death without melting the ice walls protecting them from the outside world.
My nerd self “Yay maps.” But yeah kinda surprised, I figured the city was either abandoned or ruled by the unicorns, not Pegasi. Also surprised that it appears that practically everything got a name change, seems a bit extreme for a in-universe standpoint and also strange for a out of universe stand point. You would think marketing would want to be able to point at the map and go “hey remember this!”
Since the map of new Equestria only shows certain locations, i wonder if it'll be like the cutie mark map in G4 by that i mean what if every other location on the Equestria map became lost and every time Sunny and friends find these locations they magically reappear on the map?...i mean that probably won't happen but it would be interesting!
I think Canterlot was more likely just abandoned, and the pegasis just took over instead. If as you proposed the unicorn would have seeked any sources of magic that they could still use, like the everfree as you proposed that it has it's own wild brand of magic to it. I do like that the different areas of Equestria has been renamed. Sa for Zephyr Breeze being related to Zephyr Hights, I doubt that he was alive when the magic disapeared, at best maybe one of his very distant decentents might had a hoof in it or is just freak coincidence.
It kinda makes sense. Why would the Unicorns stay in a place that no longer held a ruling power, especially when the magic left. And since unicorns love their power and magic, no doubt they'd go to wherever they could gather enough magic to keep up their "prestige", at least until all magic disappeared and they had to do whatever they could to either keep what little they still had or to stay hidden out of shame for letting magic run out. After all this would be years, if not generations go by, so the "hoity toity elite" of Canterlot's unicorn population would be long gone or too old to care anymore. I do like that things may still be very much connected to G4, and cannot wait for more images to arise, especially more maps.

crystal empire would surely go hiding or something like that since if three main pony races are against each other, minor ones (crystal and bat ponies) I would expect going to isolation and separation from others too, I wonder where in taht all stands other species, gryfons, hypogryfons, yaks, changelings, kirin and dragons had own states, I would assume, durning show events so they most likely have their states once again separated too (if any of those races will be utilized durning G5) or being gone for whatever reasons

I think it’s possible that it still exists but it probably is so worn down because since the pegasi can’t fly without magic, they can’t fly to their old location (if they were originally gonna live there if they still had magic) so since mountains are usually are pretty high up (well at least at its peak) taking over canterlot makes so much sense (if it’s the same mountain)

I just want it to be good. So many people are saying that there's a chance it may be too political (which could be a problem if every other line is heavy handed social commentary), but so long as they don't take the star wars route of saying "all of the old heroes actually suck and our new ones are cool" then that's a start.
Seeing how with gen 4, many fans think of new ways to expand the world of mlp and even make some new countries of their own. Maybe the staff of gen 5 will do exactly that. Although I am hoping that thestrials (aka bat ponies) could be explored a bit more.
I've always been way too invested in the history and politics of Fake Horse World, but the idea of magic being lost and the races falling into tribalism and conquest again has me genuinely invested. Especially since we know (if the history in Hearth's Warming Eve is true and not fictionalized) that the constant animosity is a ticking time bomb to bring on a new ice age.

I can imagine unicorns being a weaker, more delicate pony race without magic, since they are so dependent on it. I would not be surprised if the pegasai, being more militaristic and having more physical strength, were able to drive them out and take over the city. I wonder what happened to Alicorns being symbols of royalty though. I hope that at least Twilight makes a cameo in Gen 5. I would also love to see what happened to the treehouse of friendship, twilight's castle, and the ruins of the castle of the two sisters. It would be cool to see those places as ancient ruins of a time long past to give some context to the Gen 5 timeline.
A Fight is not the only option. It might have been normal migration with Pegasi moving to the ground in mass flocking around certain areas and the other tribes vacating them.
