Spike's episodes have slowly gotten better and better. He gradually became one of my favorite characters on the show. I'd like to see an episode that focuses on his determination as well. I want to see an episode where he is hit with an intense physical, mental, and moral struggle, and still manages to make the right choice and power through.

I'd like to see more exploration of dragon culture. Maybe give Spike a proper mentor.
Ironically enough, I did think of an Elderly 'Noble Dragon' to be his mentor. You know...a dragon who has literally lived for a VERY long time, nearly as long as Celestia or Luna or even DISCORD in terms of age, having seen everything and, despite being old, is still quite powerful. And when he and Spike meet, I had a thought that Spike was wanting to be more involved with the adventures and be more helpful, but the older dragon could help him learn more about how Dragons are viewed by the world and why a dragon like him can be a big step in a direction that can help make Dragon kind better, as there are likely VERY few noble dragons left, given that most dragons are JERKS. So he could see Spike as a glimmer of hope, especially as he's friends with the royal family.
I would also get Peter Cullen (the voice of Optimus Prime) to voice him.

I think having Peter Cullen be the voice of the Elder Dragon would be the most nerd-tastic moment of the entire series, just behind Time Turner getting a speaking part and being voiced by David Tennant.On that note, two possible alternate Dragon voices could be Tom Baker, also of Doctor Who fame and the other is Charles Martinet, already an experienced and prolific voice actor in animation and video games, who voiced Paarthurnax in Skyrim.
ShadowDJ94 Hm. I have a black firedrake named Shadow Wright. He and Gearhead already met, and although he flew off he is the sort of mature, honourable dragon you describe. I could bring him back, provided he learns about Spike living with the ponies. He'll probably be involved in the war against Sombra, so I do have the opportunity to bring him back in.

I want to see more of Spike being different from other dragons, but in a different way. Let me explain. Due to the love of his friends and the Equestrian Magic he's been exposed to, I would love to see him slowly grow up along a different path than other dragons, growing fur on his ridges and developing magic of his own. Eventually, this would all cumulate in Spike triggering a growth spurt while trying to protect his friends. As a result of this, he'd become an Eastern-style Dragon, based around selflessness and wisdom rather than the selfishness and greed of typical dragons. (Spike would be an AWESOME Eastern Dragon.)

Honestly, I'm glad this didn't happen. How much better is it to be something evil and chose good than to be born different and end up that way. It's the Thorax vs Pharynx situation. As cool as it was to see Thorax's transformation, given his birth, it felt more inevitable than earned. Compare that to Pharynx who learned to control his emotions and channel his violent side for the good of the hive and only then learning that, that was how he expressed his love for the hive.

Though there might be some legal issues to clean up before DHX could use the ideas (such as "who gets credit for coming up with the idea", though that's somewhat easily cleaned up compared to other things) those two ideas or something similar to them would be just-on perfect for rounding out Spike's character in the show.
ElNeroDiablo Studios Just simply credit DRWolf and Silver Quill on their respective episodes as "Story by" in the same way Charlotte Fullerton was credited for story for Putting Your Hoof Down, Teddy Antonio credited for story for Keep Calm and Flutter On, and Jayson Thiessen credited for story for Pinkie Pride.
Rallinale You'd think that would be easy, but Hasbro & DHX have to cover their arses legally, which is why it's a pain for fan-idea to come to light in the show proper.
Those examples you gave were folks working at DHX but aren't on the normal team of writers.
Hell, the only reason we got Forever Red (2002) in Power Rangers with the references to the hoax 'Scorpion Rain' (which was around 1995-96) was because the creator of the hoax managed to work his way onto the staff for Power Rangers: Wild Force.

Another thing I want to correct you on: Charlotte Fullerton _was_ actually part of the normal team of writers. She wrote Look Before You Sleep, Suited For Success, A Bird in the Hoof, May the Best Pet Win, Baby Cakes, and helped co-wrote Power Ponies.
Spike definitely needs more appreciation, rather than just being the punching bag for the majority of the show. The ideas shown in this video for episodes starring Spike will make Spike's character shine like Celestia's sun.

Yeah the more people the better :3 I'm thinking a comic would work best if either of you could illustrate it? I can make an outline of the story, one of you could write it up in a comic format and one of you could draw in the pictures? :3 Alternatively we could do a normal fanfic or screenplay but that would just be text so it wouldn't look as cool XD
Probably the best storyline would be showing what happened with Spike's egg, then cutting forward to Spike's future.
Maybe he was the son of a dragon prince who was overthrown. They ordered all dragons to destroy the egg if they saw it, so Spike's mother had no choice but to flee dragon territory and go on a quest to find Equestria and give the egg to the pony princess, Celestia.
Years later, the evil dragon king has discovered what happened and launched and invasion of Canterlot as a revenge strike. The mane six and princesses fight back, and the battle is about to come to an epic climax when Spike and Fluttershy intervene and tell both sides that peace is possible, Spike saying that because he is a dragon raised by ponies, he is proof that they don't have to fight each other.
The dragon king refuses to listen, but the rest of the dragons abandon him and join with Spike and the ponies to overthrow the evil king. It's then decided that from now on, to prevent such a war from happening again, Spike will be made the official ambassador between dragons and ponies.
In the final scene at the end, Spike tells Twilight Sparkle that all this time he was trying to find where he belonged, but he realises now that he has always belonged with her.
Spike meets his family for the first time and had too make a choose to go with his family or stay with his friends

Maybe Twilight has come so far in her personal growth that she needs Spike less and less. She doesn't want him to be caught completely off guard by suddenly being sent away, so she starts encouraging him to pursue his own path, something apart from her, a new purpose to devote to. Spike has also grown since they first arrived in Ponyville, maybe he's finally getting over his crush on Rarity and needs to make sense of himself and his relationships with those around him. The Cutie Mark Crusaders are also getting older and their seemingly eternal lack of progress in getting their cutie marks is starting to wear on them. They're starting to lose hope and need to rediscover themselves too. Perhaps their paths can run parallel, Spike and the CMC discover themselves together and start making progress. They are seemingly close to the same age, and Spike needs to interact with ponies his age more.
Spike is almost the same age as Twilight and her friends.
He is a "baby" by dragon standards of growth, but not a baby.
But the 'own path' thing is valid and plays into other posts I've made if care to read them here. ^_
ZGuy0fSci Spike hatched on the same day they all got their Cutie Marks, that means he's at least a few years younger than the Main 6. We're never told how much older Applejack and Rarity are than Applebloom and Sweetie Belle respectively, they might have been born shortly after they got their cutie marks for all we know.

She has grown since then, and she'll need to grow more if she's going to completely become the princess Celestia is training her to be. She's going to need to rely on him less if she's to be as well rounded as a ruler needs to be.

I've got a bit of an idea for a Spike episode. Here's what I've had in mind.
The episode would start with Twilight and Spike walking in the The Everfree Forest coming back from a visit to the old ruins the Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters at night. Spike is struggling to carry a pile of things from the castle, until he losses his balance, drops everything on the grown, and accidentally pushes Twilight into a bunch of strange, thorny plants close by, which Twilight pricks herself on. Twilight briefly groans from the painful stinging prick, then looks to see a scroll, important to her studies, ruined in a puddle of mud. She gets angry at Spike for his clumsiness, and the two have an argument similar to Rarity and Sweetie Belle's argument in Sisterhooves Social, with both Twilight and Spike saying hurtful (some untruthful) things to each other that they would regret.
Spike spends the night sleeping in the playground at the Ponyville Schoolhouse. The next morning, Spike walks around Ponyville thinking about all the hurtful things he said to Twilight until he finally works up the courage to go back home to the Friendship Rainbow castle to apologize to Twilight.
As Spike enters the castle, he calls Twilight's name, for there is no answer. He goes looking for Twilight. He enters the library part of the castle only to find, to his great shock, Twilight lying collapsed on the library floor unconscious. Spike frantically tries to wake her, to no avail. He then see the black area around where Twilight had pricked herself on that thorny plant earlier last night. Knowing something was wrong, Spike puts Twilight on a cart and wheels her over to Zecora's hut as quickly as he could.
There, Zecora would examine Twilight. The scene would play out something like this.
Spike: "Please, Zecora. Can you help her?"
Zecora: (examining the black area) "Hmm...This mark I see looks bad to rant. Do tell me more about this plant."
Spike: "It was a rich, greenish-deep blue, with sharp, pointy thorns."
Zecora: "I've seen this before and not in various, for this I'm afraid it's quite serious."
Spike: "Serious. Is there anything we can do?"
Zecora: "The cure you seek lies in motion. Things you need for brewing an ancient potion. (Zecora closes her eyes, and goes into a meditated state.) (starts chanting in her native language) (In English) "Oh, great ancients, hear my chant. Beware the thorns of the Rokna plant.
Which speeds one years from day to night. This cure restores the victims might.
A silver scale from a deadly foe, to wield against this fatal blow.
A phoenix's feather burning bright, to drive away the veil of night.
And for the final task, you must be brave, to steal the eggs from a kraken's cave.
Remember, these deeds must end under sunlit sky, or the pony's very soul will die."
After that, Spike is given a task to find these ingredients for the cure by sundown that day. Spike must rush against time to save Twilight's life, later the rest of the mane 6 catch wind of it, and later aid Spike in his task.
So, that's all I can think of for a good Spike episode or 2 parter. Do you recon this story idea has any potential?

Oh, too colorful death, Pish-Posh! Lots of shows have deadly parts like that in them. Kids and adults alike love that kind of stuff. I'm old schooled.
Besides, what's life or a good series without a little mortal danger and excitement? The old classic fairy tales have them, so why can't MLP?
I'm accepting both of these ideas into my headcannon. I really like Spike and those story ideas...so good.
As many knows, Fluttershy has a fear of dragons. Spike is a dragon, but Fluttershy doesn't fear him because he is a baby dragon.
What if there was an episode focusing on Fluttershy's fear of Spike getting older and starts becoming afraid of him?
Fluttershy one day suddenly realizes that Spike will not be a baby dragon forever and begins to have nightmares about Spike growing bigger and scarier. She begins to avoid him and starts to believe that every action he takes is a sign of him plunging deeper into his 'dragon' ways.
One day when Fluttershy talks to Twilight, she reveals her fears to an eavesdropping Spike. Not wanting lose one of his closest friends, Spike decides to find a way to remain a baby dragon or leave Ponyville forever.
Twilight of course manages to talk some sense into Fluttershy and tells her that she has been letting personal fears cloud her judgement. They soon discover what Spike is planning to do and are able to stop him before he can complete it.
Fluttershy apologizes to Spike for her behavior and realizes that it isn't what he is that makes him a dragon, but it's how he is raised as a dragon.
Give Spike wings. Seriously. He needs wings.

My thoughts of a Spike story is really long. You have been warned.
At the start the mane six have to go away for a few days and Spike is again left behind. After the mane six leave, a young foal (I'm going to say filly, but it could be a colt) starts going around and stealing things from town. Spike tracks her down, only to find that she lives on the street and steals to survive. Out of the kindness of his heart, Spike invites her to stay with him for a day or two. She does, but is a complete and utter jerk to him, stealing Twilight's bed, leaves a mess in her wake, and more. Spike tries to be nice, laboring away to clean her messes late into the night. She sees this and feels bad for what she's done. She tries to make it up to him and they become friends. The filly admits that she ran away from her home after an argument about her not being able to take care of herself and has been living on her own ever since. When she is asleep, Spike sends a letter off to her family telling them to meet him at Ponyville. The mane six return the next day and the filly slips back into that harsh persona of hers around them. The mane six become increasingly annoyed with her and Spike ends up having to put her in her place, saying that this isn't what her family wanted. The filly runs off crying. Spike ends up talking to her and she confesses that she wanted to return home, but was afraid about how her family would react and treat her. Later Twilight tells Spike that the filly has to go. Spike begs Twilight that the filly can stay just until her family comes. When Twilight is unsure, Spike begs her to trust him. Twilight agrees. The next day the filly earns the mane six's trust when she returns everything that she has stolen to their rightful owners. The mane six and Spike (mainly Spike) help the filly get ready to see her
family. Spike and the filly have a touching good bye. The episode ends with Spike receiving a letter from the young filly, before writing a letter back.
From this story we would see Spike's kindness, compassion, determination, and the trust that he shares with Twilight.

This was a blast of enjoyment from the good doctor and everyone's favourite hippo-griff. Spike has really evolved into his own character since the days of season one where he is more than just an assistant, and is now an established member of the cast. Granted, some writers still don't really know what to do with him and simply shoehorn him into the story, but those who have utilized him have made him much more relatable. I for one feel that Spike is going to have a memorable season five.
On a side note, Silverquill's antics are once again in full force, and he has had to pay the consequences for his "evil" actions which are more comical than sinister. Still, that plan of his did work despite what he ended up doing.

i wanna see an episode where the main six discuss Spike's separation anxiety with Twilight. Learning how to cope with separation anxiety is a great lesson for both children and adults. My little sister has a fear of me moving out of the house, and I've tried to tell that she doesn't have to be scared, but she's so attached to me. So having an mlp episode that deals with this would be very helpful.

Personally I love both of those episode ideas, but I think that Dr. Wolfs idea better, and I pray that someday it is an episode. That could easily be in my top five best episodes.
Probably one of my most favorite Silver Quill videos yet. It's also nice to see how other people/ponies look at the different ways spike can be used as a character, and not just a character that is either the cause of the problem, abused, or else is not needed.

Personally I’ve always wanted to see an episode in which Spike and Twilight have a fight, she pushes him to hard or takes him for granted one time to many. And the little guy snaps and storms out of the castle claiming he doesn’t need her and goes into town trying to find his own thing. Twilight lets him go thinking in the typical (he’ll be back sort of way) mothers have when their child runs away from home expecting him to come back with his tail between his legs before the day is up. At first spike does have his fair share of trouble but his stubbornness doesn’t let him give up and by chance he finds the towns blacksmith a grumpy old unicorn that after some convincing lets Spike become his apprentice. De Young dragon shows great potential for the job with his ability to breath fire and heatproof claws, he also manages to get to know many of the costumers that come into the shop. Days later Twilight becomes mad with worry and frustration without her assistant and goes looking for him. The you get the typical two sided apology scene in which in which Twilight apologysis and they both to still very much care for one another. But here’s the twist spike doesn’t go back to being twilights assistant, at least not as much as he used to because he likes his job, the old blacksmith and the new friends he made too much. He still lives at the castle but instead goes to work every morning.
This idea would give way for two things later in the series, Spike would have the chance to become more of a standalone character with his own life and profession instead of always being overshadowed by Twilight. And Twilight would get a chance to fully go from student to teacher when she gets a new apprentice/assistant that she would need to educate and raise in the ways of magic and friendship.
As for the moral I'd say something like: Never taking anything you have for granted. And the impotence of being your own thing and stepping out of your comfort some to experience new things and meet new people.
leopard eye What about Spike' skills as a cook, etc.? He can use those to impress himself on ponies for other jobs, too. Also, there's an edit button you can use to add or change text. You don't have to reply to your own text.

As for the rest. I know that spike has many others skill but that’s not the point I’m trying to make. What I’m trying to say is that he should step out of twilights shadow, try new things and make friends of his own. Instead of being the seventh wheel behind the wagon of the main six.
Also thought it would be nice for spike to learn something new from someone. I mean he assists twilight but doesn't learn anything form her besides being a good assistant.
leopard eye He learns many of the lessons she learns, by osmosis. I learned a lot the same way, from my other siblings.
Ben N I am aware of that but it was not what I meant. you are talking about moral lessons while I meant learning an actual craft. This could be smiting like in my example or becoming an even better baker/cook or something else. In the end it doesn't really matter what it is as long as it teaches him that there is more to life than just being twilights assistant.
Personally I always liked spike. Its not just his goofy personality but his sense of will power like in the episode with the treasure dogs. Can't remember the name. When Rarity was taken. Although Spike went through many tough spots he refused to give up in that episode.

So i asked Cathy Weseluck on Twitter if we will ever find out how Spike's egg was found and given to Twilight

Well, this became much longer than I hoped, but here we go-
One thing that I've always been intrigued about is how Spike and Twilight act together and towards each other. Spike's relationship to Twilight, as the childish but loyal assistant, has been addressed more than well enough, but not so much the other way around. We know how Spike thinks of himself to her, and how they consider each other family, but what if he asked himself one question: "What is Twilight to me?"
This would go back to how Spike was in Owls Well That Ends Well, where what he was to Twilight was being threatened, and Dragon Quest, where he sought out to discover who and what kind of dragon he was, and where he established the ponies as his family. I personally enjoy both episodes for their own merits, whether it be its visuals or world building or memorable moments or so on, and even though we get some establishment of who and what he is to others, it's still mostly what others see him as, with the latter's exception of referring to Twilight as his family as well.
Now, I know DRWolf001 is aware of Pen Stroke's wonderful story Past Sins, and one of the sequels Winter Bells, but not sure if MLP-Silver-Quill has read either mentioned story, so if I may ask you both: are you familiar with one of the official Past Sins sequels, Nightmare or Nyx?
And for those unaware of the sequel stories to Pen Stroke's Past Sins, there's one called "Nightmare or Nyx," a Spike-centered story that gave me a lot of thought regarding what I'm talking about. Without giving out too many spoilers, he questions Twilight's safety following what happened in Past Sins, interacting with some of the other ponies before confronting the issue 'directly.' This is my favorite fan-made content starring Spike in the fandom because of how believable it felt to read and understand what he was struggling with, having been in similar positions myself, and because of how well his character was handled. Regardless of the story not being canon, it really reinforces how close he feels to Twilight, and how he'd feel if anything would take her away again, and for good.
Here's the setting that comes to my mind regarding this:
With no available family to come in for Family Appreciation Day and Ponyville Elementary School, Spike volunteers Twilight to come in, insisting that she could use something to do that wasn't princess-focused and more fun, recalling her feeling a bit stressed and unhappy. A conversation with the CMC leads to one of them mentioning at how, even though Twilight is Spike's closest family, Twilight is just, for lack of better description, 'a roommate who's also a boss and your friend.' Spike begins to think about what Twilight is to him exactly, and decided to discover that by going up a ladder of titles to discover that identity.
In the days before having to be at the school, Spike spends one day acting like a fun-loving roommate, then another as more of a sibling, and another like a child who needs care from his mother, all the while remaining as the supportive assistant. In the end, all of the attempts backfire on him trying to make a discovery, and with each failed attempt, he develops a fear that he won't get his answer, and even more so if she'll stop caring for him altogether, given her current state. Twilight confronts him and asks about his recent behavior, and he explains his conversation with the CMC and him not sure who she is to him other than a friend. He also admits at how she's cared for him ever since he hatched and how he feared her being nothing more than just 'the roommate who's also a boss.'
Twilight snaps out of her stressed mood and tells Spike her thoughts, and how she feels she is to him. She tells him how much she loves his care and dedication in helping and making her happy, and could only wish of doing the same in return. After reminding him of that, the two settle on an unmentioned title, and share a hug. Lastly, on the night followed Family Appreciation Day, the two get ready to go to bed, with Twilight deciding to spend the next day spending time with Spike in ways they can both relax. She overhears him sound asleep, and decides to walk up to his bed and give him a small kiss on his forehead, a gesture that doesn't require a before-mentioned title, but she would say something to hint at what the title would be

I would honestly love to see a Spike episode where his loyalty to Twilight is really test & see just how LOYAL he really is, now this may seem to be a redundant idea but from what I've seen in other forms of media the character that supposedly is the most loyal partner to someone are the ones with the most inner conflict.
Spike maybe loyal to Twilight JUST because she was there when he hatched & decided to take him in, and sure Twilight may care deeply for him but HOW deeply & is Spike's loyalty towards to Twilight is simply out of an obligation that Twilight took him in & treats him as a little brother. In other words I would really like to see an episode that really touches on the relation between these 2 characters.
Think about it, Spike has so much unused potential as a character. He doesn't know who or where his original family. Heck, HE'S A DRAGON FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. And have you noticed anything about all of the other dragons? Right, they all have wings. All dragons but Spike have wings. Spikes lack of wings may be thanks to Twilight. She hatched Spike after the sonic rainbow gave her all that magic energy. A bit too much magic energy. And almost all of that magic was poured into Spike. That is more than likely to cause some sort of deformity. All that magic energy poured into him at birth might give him un-imagninal powers or something like that. I feel like the writers are missing out on a shit-ton of opportunities for episodes. They should use Spike to actually add some more story to MLP, and not for episodes where it shows him being greedy only to teach a valuable lesson at the end *COUGH COUGH* Princess Spike *COUGH*

The stress of being a princess is getting to Twilight. Seeing this, Spike puts together a special, relaxing picnic for her in the Whitetail Wood (he'd probably have to force her to take a break). In any case, he goes into Twilight-mode and tries to make everything just perfect.
That goes as well as expected. Celestia knows how everything goes wrong, but it does. In the end, though, Twilight reveals that his idea worked, sort of. She had fun, and she was touched that Spike threw everything together just for her.
Also, perhaps as Spike writes out his plans for the picnic, he gets a song finally.
+MLP-Silver-Quill and +DRWolf001 I have a few ideas for a Spike episode. 1) an episode about what he and Big Mac were doing during Cutie Map, or other bonding episode between the two 2) Similar to Dr. Wolf's idea, but augmented with Spike revealing to Rarity at the end that he know it was her the whole time, but what acknowledges that while he has a crush on her, he knew what she needed was his help not him fanboying over her. 3) Spike gets to read the letter that was destroyed during Dragon Quest, and he goes to met an ancient but noble dragon, there he and we truly learn about dragons and the ancient dragon informs Spike, that while he's currently small for a dragon his age, his 'horde' ; the love and friendship he has with the ponies of Equestia, will enable him to be the mightiest of dragons soon enough, as we see in the episode we see him grow-up to a size similar to the teen-dragons, but is still who he is, he returns to Ponyville happy to know there are noble dragons, that he is one of them and ready to get back to being Twilight's assistant. 4) As a second part to the previous idea (Not necessarily the next episode but the next part of that arc) Spike helps Fluttershy overcome her fear of dragons, both showing that he, as a person, has not changed, but grew. 5) Alternative of the second part of the arc, Spike as a young-adult, preforms a 'draco ex machiana' not to save the day, but to give the mane 6 the chance to actually solve the problem, sort of the cliffhanger at the end of the first part of a two-part more of a season finale then season primer.
I would love to see that Rarity age episode!!! I'm counting on Hasbro to make this real. I think Spike getting a chance to shine would do him some good and rid him of some of the hate he gets from some fans.

Rarity actually finds a decent colt-friend and spike has to learn to let go, I honestly have no idea if it would be better for the colt-friend to be with rarity for only an episode, a couple, or even the whole season, but I feel like spike having to learn the lesson to let go would be something a lot of people who watch this show could relate to, (including me).

WARNING: LONG! I really like that idea from Dr. Wolf about Spike's "will" being bound to Twilight since the crazy burst of magic she used to hatch his egg.(Dr Wolf's "Can Spike ever have what he wants in life," tells all about that.) I think it would make an AMAZING story and character development, if one day Spike realizes what we did, that it seems like every time he tries to do something for his benefit, something goes terribly wrong, and that perhaps it had something to do with his unnatural hatching. He consults with Twilight about it, and they go on a research/investigation trip of sorts, possibly consulting with Princess Celestia, to see if Spike's suspicions are true. If it turns out that they are, then there's a few problems for Twilight and Spike. Could it be possible to reverse the damage Twilight's outburst caused, and if so, would they want to? Who knows? What if Twilight's spell was the only thing that kept Spike with her all those years? What if once reversed, Spike left Twilight forever, becoming like a real dragon beast, to migrate and hoard and whatnot? And here's how I think this would tie it all together. Spike might be questioning these things, thinking that without Twilight's magic, he'd be a scaly beast with no personality, other than dragon-like behaviors. But then Twilight reassures him that while perhaps the spell opened him up to more civilized, pony-like behaviors, it was still his personality, and his spirit, that made him who he is, and that no magic could change that. And she tells him that whatever choice he makes, she will support him fully. That's when Spike has an epiphany. He discovers that he had the power to break the spell all along, but he was too afraid, perhaps in his subconscious, to do anything about it. And when he tried to do what he wanted, he would self-sabotage himself, out of the fear, and guilt that all he is good for is serving Twilight, and he should just stick with that, for Twilight's sake, and his own. But when he realizes this, he breaks the spell using only his willpower. Perhaps he grows his own set of wings, or grows bigger, but he still stays himself on the inside. And he realizes he does have an ambition other than to serve. He wants to find out who he is, and where he came from, and when he answers this question, become an ambassador of sorts, so ponies can see that dragons aren't really all that different, and can get along. And vice-versa. However, he still wants to stay with Twilight, not because he thinks she needs him, but because he loves her, as the family he never had. This would really allow for us to see some SERIOUS character development in Spike, and Twilight. It would show that Spike wants to be more than what he seems, and to what lengths he would go to prove that. It would also teach Twilight something very important. If you love something, you have to be prepared to let it go. This is just an idea though, so what do you guys think?
I actually like Spike's progression through the episodes he's in, something that was bugging me during this video is how Dr. Wolf kept commenting that Spike needs to become less childish and short sighted but I think you are both forgetting that Spike is a child. Which is why I love him as he represents a part of childhood like the cmc. He's basically the polar Apple Bloom, where she is part of the rush of growing up, Spike deals with the problems of growing up such as crushes, jealousy, trying to find who you are, taking on tasks to big for you to handle, doubting your worth, the fear of losing your friends, ect. As the show goes on Spike learns these types of lessons all the while maturing while doing so. His times when he's acting childish don't bother because I understand he is a child and it reminds of how I would cause problems and the adults around me were the ones to fix it until I could fix it on my own. Even when he has his mature moments like in Lesson Zero it was like how a younger sibling would worry about their older one trying to get them to talk to them or their friends before finally telling an adult so they could try and help them. And that is why I love Spike.
A little more character development and spike will be able to single-handedly use the elements of harmony. Good thing they got ride of them before he could. Oh yea, and DRWolf, you should put that idea about the age spell on a season 5 predictions episode. I think people would like it.

I think a good episode would be to show Spike's family and actually confront or talk to Celestia where he came from. Even if Ponies are his family and dragons are particularly nasty creatures, there is still nothing acceptable about taking an unborn child from a parent without some kind of clarification. I think another good episode would be to actually bring this "crush" to full surface instead of treating it as a cliche running gag. Maybe look at how odd it would be to try and deal with someone from a different species crushing on you or how to deal with those kind of feelings when you get them. I always found it strange people think the idea of Rarity and Spike in any romantic form is appalling. I mean think about it, Spike was raised by Ponies his whole life and had zero exposure to ANY dragons; let alone female ones. Is it really a shock that he's attracted to a pony after spending his whole life surrounded by them? I know it's a strange issue for a show like this and I know the creators have said nothing will happen from this crush, but I think addressing Spike's personal feelings would show a lot more depth and passion to his character instead of just making his crush a running gag. That's my 2 cents anyway.

I liked Silver Quill's story a lot more. My personal Spike fanfic: A baby girl dragon crash lands in ponyvile and Spike have to look after her until her father finds her and picks her up. Another is story is Spike found a full-grown dragon resting close to ponyvile. However, this dragon is the calmest dragon anybody (/any-pony) had ever met and teaches Spike the most appealing parts of dragon culture. At the very end (and after some random conflict), the dragons leaves and Spike grew a pair of baby dragon wings
I too would like to see something along the lines of a yong mature dragoness that looks in color a bit like Rarity is found by Shy outside Ponyville and helps her out, with them her meeting Spike, and NOT falling in love. Could make for another nice warning about shipping episode not seen since that love potion episode, along with furthering his friendship with Rarity. *that he has moved on past mere crushes at sight to more real and mature emotional states. At the end she moves on flying off but not perhaps fully just saying goodbeye to never visit again her new friends. She could even show up from time to time?
The other part or idea that could be neat is one tying in with that other one, along with the question of Spike getting to find his family and staying for a time to learn more about dragon kind, past just what he experienced at the hands of 3 bullies.

But overall as a good and largely Origional episode for Spike, rather than a recombination of past ones I really like the Doc's. They pass off her as an 'old' relative of Rarity like her grandmother or great aunt they have never seen she has always looked a bit like in her youth. By the end Spike realizes its her before the change back, but never lets on to it right away either, that it is also that he knows her that he puts it together but isn't just crushing on her any more by this point, but genuinely respects her as a friend. It would be nice to see them push past the 'puppy crush' thing which they seem to be able to be doing slowly though some degree of idolizing still goes on, but he starts to move past it.
Would also do good alongside that 1st part up top, lol.

Dr. Wolf, that idea for a Spike episode is SO AWESOME!!!😃 That needs to be made into a real episode, it sounds so believable, and already I can picture it in my head!
When the animation started I screamed "ANIMATION HONEST TO GOD ANIMATION"
I came up with an idea, but it is a really strange one, even for me. But hearing many wanting more positive male characters in the show I thought of something that could kill two birds with one stone in a matter. My idea involves a group of teenage dragons (or drakes I think? A recent fanfic I'm reading right now refers to them as drakes) most likely the ones in Dragon Quest coming into Ponyville and causing chaos such as playing mean pranks and causing destruction for example just because they don't like ponies.
However there is a new drake in the group who does not seem to want to do the things that they are doing but is pressured into doing them by the other drakes saying that he can't hang out with them anymore if he does not do the things they do. The drake who was pressured goes alone into ponyville while the others hang somewhere outside the area as they don't plan on leaving anytime soon (maybe a nearby cave where they nap) and tries to make friends, but due to him being with the other drakes and the reputation many dragons have, they either don't want anything to do with him or run away from him. The only one who is willing to talk to him is Spike (and possibly the mane 6 too though they are skeptical whereas spike is certain, and fluttershy is scared of dragons too) who: being a dragon himself, has had personal encounter with the gang of drakes and fears to be alone and not needed.
The drake tells spike he didn't want to do any of the things he did and only did them because being a dragon makes it hard for him to make friends and the gang of drakes were the only form of companionship he had. Spike tells him that they are no friends of him if they are going to peer pressure him into doing things he does not. Spike knowing that the drake is not like other dragons, tells him what a true friend is and offers the drake friendship, The drake in return tells Spike that he wants to make things right with the residents of Ponyville hopefully gain their friendship too. Spike being a assistant of twilight and helping others, assists him in various things to help others, such as fixing the barn in Apple Acres the drakes damaged for Applejack, helping take care of the animals in Fluttershys cottage which makes Fluttershy not afraid of him and various other things.
The others who notice that the drake is not like the others, forgive the drake and also apologize for thinking he was like other dragons with bad reputations. The gang of drakes however come back and realise what he has done. The gang are angry at the drake and tells him that he is no dragon and order/pressure him into destroying things in ponyville. The drake angered however almost giving into dragon instincts yells at them and berrates them for their behaviour, saying that they are no friends and does not want anything to do with them. He also says he should not have given into peer pressure being the moral and that he should've done what he believed was right. The gang are slightly imitated but shrug it off saying that he's all alone against a gang of drakes, which prompts spike and the other residents to glare at the other drakes as if they were ready to fight, knowing that they are outnumbered and with their pride hurt, they flee ponyville never to return. The lone drake prompts to do the same as well saying he should never return, but spike says he doesn't want the drake to go as he is the only friend that is his own kind. The others tell the drake that their is a empty cave he can reside in and is always welcome to ponyville, which the drake is happy to hear.
Yeah not the best plot in the world, but I was brainstorming as I was typing, so it's going to sound odd. But something like this is something I'd like to see, something tackling a subject that many can identify with including myself, having a positive male character and having spike helping and having a friend who is a dragon as well as give another dragon a positive role instead of a negative one like Dragonquest or Owls well that ends wells

I honestly don't care what happens to Spike, as long as Twilight starts yelling MINION! to beckon Spike to do something for her while he is still waist-deep in his own Stockholm Syndrome. THAT would be a very accurate description of his relationship with Twilight.
Personally, when it comes to the age spell, I can think of a better story that fits Twilight’s character. No offense, but it does seem to be out of character for Twilight to try it out on Rarity considering she a perfectionist. In fact, she would test it on immediate objects before trying it on someone live, if ever. No, I think a better story would be Twilight master the spell, and Spike wanted Twilight to use the spell of him to become older, something all kids want at one point of their childhood. Especially since he thinks if he is older, he can pursue a relationship with Rarity and be given more responsibility from Twilight, who treats in between a worker and son. Twilight refused to cast the spell and Spike yells at her, possibly saying he hates her when Twilight tells him to go to his room.
Hurt, Twilight cries and Spike feels guilty, but refuse to back down due to pride and goes to his room. There he have a dream tied into the past how everyone calls him a ‘baby dragon’ and how much he hates, especially at times he is made fun of for it. Then comes in Luna, who calms the dream down, and Spike talks to her, and we enter where Luna does a Christmas Miracle, showing what happens if he gets his wish. And first it’s great, he gets more reasonability, he is treated like an adult and maybe even get the chance to date Rarity, though it doesn’t go anywhere.
That is when he learns the downside of being an adult, his time to goof off is less, his actions creates more dire consequences for he is taken more serious as an adult, and finally his relationship with Twilight changes to one that is less close. One that is still love, but not as neutering as we saw in the series, and Spikes misses it. The dream then ends at Spike’s request and Luna comply, telling him he is ready to go to the waking world after Luna giving him some final words of advice along the wise, “Don’t worry about growing old Spike, as you grow into the role when the time comes.”
Then Spike wakes and walk down to see Twilight was hard at work, with books on, which Twilight revealed she’s been reading to figure out how to work the age spell for dragons and was willing to do it, if he wants to. Spike hesitantly says and runs to Twilight in a big hug. Spike asks if he can have hot coco and the two share a drink, ending the episode.
This is what I think the episode go for they can do three things:
1) Create a lesson to value the time we have as kids
2) Developed Spike’s character and the relationship between Twilight and Spike
3) Do a good story where instead of why being an adult is bad, but instead an adult is a trade and one that needs to be matured into given time. Which I hope can be explained by an analytical Twilight.

Spike's character, in my opinion, works best when paired with some pony else to bounce off of... kinda like Applejack. He is childish yet mature for his age. He's determined but doesn't know when enough is enough. He doesn't back down to anything even when confronted with a stressful situation like the Equestia Games.
But he's also the voice a reason... he's realistic... most of the time. Next to Applejack I believe he works best as a supporting character. So pretty much any story where he helps solve a problem one his friends are stuck in or a story where he is on his own exploring the world around him. Afterall, he is a Dragon raised by ponies... it's an interesting concept honestly yet it has only been explored once. I always found it strange that, despite not knowing a thing about them and even considering them to be extremely dangerous that everypony just accepts Spike.
2 episodes, "Excess" touched on an important point of Dragon 'aging' and maturatiy, both in terms of Physically but also Psychologically/mentally.
That in the world of Equestria, dragons' Greed & Growth are corilated, and that an important point & part of dragons growing up is controlling those hording instincts, and maintaining reason as they mature, not just growing to be scaled monsters.
*a point of question brought up in "the Return of Princess Nightmare Moon" as compared to the series that Celestia taught Twilight to be mindful and respectful of Spikes needs being a dragon, and that he has/keeps a small horde of his own as part of his growth/maturation. A point not brought up in show before then.
To the point of lack of fear, His just being a "baby" dragon likely helps things, and one can wonder that if he 'grows up' and leaves or grew up away with his found parents and returned grown & matured as he ought to have grown, what might the case be? Panic at start Im sure to be sure, but perhaps another good episode to question or explore the question of begotry or fear of the unknown, and that too of why are dragons as seen so far as they are?
What kind of lives are they made to lead. Perhaps Spike learns a good deal on this and returns home for a visit to see old friends and help his old mentor learn a few new things about dragon culture that most ponys would be unlikely to ever learn. Along with learning if how much of what he learned as being true as to why dragons are as they are, esp when it comes to other races... (we often are as life treats us or makes us, if a monster so then one)
Perhaps he comes knowing magic to boot to control the regretion of size while yet keeping his maturity, but doesn't use it before ariving wanting to see if how much of it is true, that Ponys can or would only ever see a dragon as a monster even when they know or knew him otherwise, before returning to a yonger form in part both to learn & teach a leason. After which, will he be willing to stay in Ponyville for good as had thought or planed? or is it too much to know that only because he is too small to be seen as a threat they don't seem to fear him or even at times mock him?
Can begotry & fear be unlearned, and how much at times should it?
Damn, so much we can explore with this show, no wonder those not blind with ignorance or bigotry & hate love MLP! ^_^

I don't know why, but I like seeing you move back and forth while hearing those walking sounds. It's just so adorable, especially while Dr. Wolf rides your back. It also makes me wonder if he ever tried flying by riding a winged friend.

I really like the story about Rarity and Spike. It not only shows more to his charater but also shows Rarity that he's nice to everypony. Even if he's never met them.

But I can't really blame Spike for his bad roles and lack of character or depth, because the writers give the excuse that there is no room for Spike to have more episodes about him because of the focus on the Mane Six.

At 2:43 in this video where it showed the clip of that when Spike was trying to help Twilight get the Crystal Heart to where Princess Cadence and Shining Armor where at I liked to think that King Sombra was actually kind of helping Spike get to where Princess Cadence and Shining Armor where at. But then again he was also trying to get the Crystal Heart for himself as well. Wow, those ideas for spike episodes are completely brilliant. I actually don't think I can think of any better.
I ADORE the "aged Rarity" story. Not only to see how Rarity handles being elderly, but seeing Spike being so doting and caring to someone without realizing it's the object of his affections is a real show of character. While I would love for them to finally talk about Spike's origins in season 5 (And with the direction it's going to go with all the traveling, we might just get that), I think the idea of Rarity learning to cope with her age would be a great character development for both of them. It's a shame how some fan fiction can sometimes be better than cannon episodes. I guess when you hear the words "Fan Fiction" you instantly think of O.C.s, out-of-character moments, and shipping. Lots and lots and LOTS of shipping....

Dr. Wolf your story of Spike and Rarity reminds me a bit of Howl's Moving Castle, but with the girl (who is transformed into a granny) showing her true beauty and values to Howl and teaching / inspiring him to love again.
the main thing that they need to do with spike is make it so he's not the source of the problem. in most of the spike episodes he's the issue. they need an episode that finds a way to make a conflict (that's not caused by spike) that the main 6 can't solve. that's why spike episodes are so hard. you can think of dozens of ways spike can mess up, yet its hard to find a problem that others can't solve.

-Spike interacts with Discord
-Discord plays a prank that puts Spike in a certain situation
-Spike panics and tries to figure out what to do
-Discord gives a hint in a certain way
-Spike uses his green flame in a way he never uses it before
-Spike thanks Discord for helping him learn his new ability
-Moral of the story: When in doubt, think outside of the box
That only can mean that his Flame has Phosphor in it what colours it Green. Or it's Kind of an Magic because the Flame has the Same Color as Spike, and lots of unicorns have the Same Color of Magic (like levitate) like their mane colour, exept when they use magic items like the allicorn necklace or the Book wich made Rarity evil
