Mixing wise I've felt like for the past 5-10 years that the Sam Smith & Adele style mixes have been the best. Sonically their stuff just sounds like the engineer took their time and the elements being felt are always spot on. Side note: Ali doing Kendrick projects is what inspired me to become a mixing engineer though. GKMC feels like the blueprint for me lol
"FL Studio's commitment to innovation and staying at the forefront of music technology ensures that it will remain a powerhouse in the world of DAWs for years to come."
So I’m just getting started with music production and my UA-cam screen time average is like 5 hrs after just watching y’all on repeat. I’m 16 and y’all are great to watch. Thank you 🙏
16:00 there’s 2 videos on UA-cam of Teezio breaking down his mixing templates for both “Psychic” and “Till The Wheels Fall Off”. You can clearly see a lot of his work flow in there
11:49 I still do both but over ten years back this old head told me to stay in my lane cuz Im a singer. In the same asked a dude to ghost write for them. Mind you, Im way nicer than dude. So yeah singing AND rapping was so frowned upon. Usher did it a few times on the My Way album and we let it slide 😅
Man I love what yalll doing for the production putting a spotlight on the part of music that makes it great the very magic is the production so mad lovee
I have recently been AMAZED at how incredible the mixes are in a lot of modern Drum N Bass. They have some of the clearest, hugest mixes I’ve heard. Plus, they utilise basically ALL of the frequency spectrum. Not to mention how good it sounds on all systems.
"Hotline Bling" peaked at #2. Drake's first solo #1 was "One Dance"; his first technical #1 was "What's My Name?". By #1, I'm referring to the Hot 100.
I remembered clearly in the car waiting for my parents to come back from Sam's Club, I had the music blasting. All a sudden "Best I Ever Had" came on the radio and I never heard of Drake besides Degrassi. Shit blew me away, Im like wait... he's singing and rapping? Who is this guy singing sounding a bit like NEYO on this record. At that moment I knew the game is going to change.
Serato Studio has had Stem seperation since there 2.0 update in January and the beta goes back over a year. So, FL is not the first. Also Waveform 12.5 has it.
I have been using steam for years now in studio one 😊 so they are real late I think they need someone that knows studio one inside out to show them what they have been missing.
People forget that we have Hip-Hop/Pop as a genre. Lizzo, Meg The Stallion, Doja Cat, Bia, Da Baby etc. pretty much H&M music. We should just say Hip-Hop and call it a day.
Lauryn Hill broke the mold lol. Sang at a supreme technical and stylistic level and rapped with elite bar and flow. Nobody else can say that outside of her.
OT, but asking the community; Do yall send your hi-hats, percs, crashes etc. to the drum-bus as well, or do you keep em separate? saw lots of famous mixers do both, i like the bounce it adds to the hihat, when the kick triggers the drum bus comp. but on the other hand keeping the hats separate lets you saturate the other drums harder without destroying the high end
I don’t mix my songs but I know people. Mostly I see them having few different buses like Drum Bus , Percussion Bus , Bass Bus if they have more thn one bass used in song.
I used to include them in the same group, but I just started separating them (bass, kick, snare, rim in one group) (hihats, open hats, crash etc in a separate group) digging it way better this way
First off PROTOOLS 4 LIFE!!! Secondly, Protools is DBZ cause it’s the OG, Ableton is One Piece cause people love it but it’s really hard to get into, and FL is MHA It’s fire but the fans are just the worst! JK I love my FL people but y’all know I’m right!😂 Love this Pod so much been here since episode 1!🙌
Lucky Daye/Victoria Monet, Dmile, and J kercy has been my favorite music sonically and feeling wise recently. Getting J kercy and or Dmile on the couch would be dope asf.
Mos Def sung and rapped on both the blackstar album and his solo album black on both sides. Blackstar came out in 98 same year as the miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Solo album 99
I hope Slate Audio send Devvon a copy of the VSX Modeling Headphones. I’m hearing rave reviews on them. Would love to hear his take on them!! Come on Slate!
I know I'm responding to this mad late but in terms of rappers who pioneered the singing/rapping style I don't know how Andre 3000 get's overlooked every time. He was the first
Teezo has always been one of the goats! I've been saying it for years! ...another underrated person nobody talks about is Bengineer Cybulsky (who's mixed most of the whole Tech N9ne's Strange Music label's catalog) FL 4 Life 🤘... LJ's LUFS joke got my dying laughing 🤣🤣
For on y’all forgetting or just don’t know And Devon should know cause he a fukin 80s baby but the whole singin and rap spiel was not done by missy or Lauryn, I mean you also had artists like Queen Latifah, and Nate dogg and I feel like there was someone else but yall forgetting the whole spiel of that was started with likes of ppl Teena Marie to some one more so like none other than Bobby Brown. He was first to have a bunch of hits where did both. Two this FL update bout to be bananas I can’t wait. I knew this update was going to Devon something fierce cause he not ready. We bout to have not only our own cloud and stem separator but we also getting an inbuilt mastering option too. STOP-SLEEPIN-ON-FL. Just when y’all was talkin smack saying it’s a toy FL steady slapping y’all will crazy updates. Lol.
R&B Is Definitely The Greatest Mixing Genre Right Now With Teezio Doing Chris Brown, Saint Harrison Etc... Jaycen Mixing HER & Many More ... Jon Castelli Mixing 6lack, Leon Thomas Etc...
Not gonna lie. I’ve been pro tools since I bought 10 back in the day but it’s only for recording and mixing. I can’t do production in no other daw than FL. If there was a hybrid FL/Pro-Tools mode it would be game over
Blxst has said he wanted to be in that pocket to where the women love him but the guys can still slap his shit around the homies. He is PERFECTLY in that pocket if you ask me 💪🏾
"we can put kaytranada and demi lovato in the same category" is the one of the craziest things I've ever heard LJ say, and LJ says a whoooole lotta crazy 😭
@@nilespeshay1734 im familiar with them. Bone Thugs perfected that flow and were the first to blow it up and basically pave the way for everyone doing it now
@@ApexLunatic so, in your opinion, Freestyle Fellowship was NOT "the first to blur the lines between singing and rapping". Is that correct? (Not looking for an argument - just clarity.)
Because "pop(ular) music" is a classification that (historically) doesn't really define anything. For the sake of this question, it just confuses everything. It would lead to, "is popular dance music mixed better than dance music?" They were trying to avoid turning a music debate into a philosophical/ontological debate.

Lauryn Hill and T pain too

Stop watching this shit and get to fuckin work
8:40 Bro really be using wild analogies as stun guns and it's super effective against Devvon every time lmao LJ's a menace.

Glad Max B was mentioned when it came to the singing & rapping…he fathered a lot of artists low key
hands down i love this podcast!! makes me laugh, teaches bout music, and happily pay each other out, but in the end we all here cause we love MUSIC
I agree with Devvon with regards to Hip Hop mixes not always being great. It's only a few artists that stand out mixing wise.
No one be talking about the ambient genre. Man. Thats exactly how you set a good foundation.
Forget just Audio, this is the best podcast period.. Three GOATS podcast... 🐐🐐🐐
Pop has the BEST mixes hands down!
Jermaine Dupree pioneered the 808s on R&B records

That's nothing new, DnB has had the highest production baseline for years
Glitch hop. go listen to sayonara by tipper. most insane sonic imaging Ive ever heard
Devvon was sick about that stem seperation lol
Bro I use Fl to create and Protool to mix. This relationship works these days...
New trap country sounds insanely good the low end on them trax are clean
Man you guys are the best ! Always looking forward to Yall episodes
I think Afrobeats are some of the cleanest mixes I ever heard
Gospel mixes hit the hardest!

FL Studio does allow you to use it as a plugin inside of any other DAW.....and Reason also allows this as well
Serato was the first Daw with stem separation but I can't wait for the FL version becasue Serato Studio is so wierd to use as an FL guy.
@UCFaMwwizp_sriL2YV7VC9nw Thanks what do I do now?
Bruh Logic has had stem separation forever
Ja Rule was one of the first male to get popular but Lauren Hill knocked the gates down regarding singing and raping. She was the total package.
I can’t lie. The mix done on “Coi Leray - Self Love” does it for me. She snapped on it but that song sonically is beautiful
Slepton and an underrated comment

Doja Cat mixes are the best in hip hop right now in my opinion. I miss the days when you could buy an album and read all the credits.
They would hate me. I use Ableton, Bitwig, Studio One and Serato Studio. Depends on my mood. I don't have an "a" Daw. I'm a Daw ho with no loyalty,

Lauren Hill sang and rapped... Thoughts
