What up what up. This you boy JAYtee. I'm rockin' with FL and Pro Tools. Big fan of HMD. Love the podcast. Let's get some short film/ documentary of your journeys. You all are very informative, i enjoy learning from the group. Im ready to drop some hits with the Rosetta.
23:43 With the akgK240 when the bass is right, it sits in it's own space just under the high mids. Assuming you keep your sub frequencies in the middle. Test with Billie Jean or a mix as clean, if you don't believe me.
Courtney maaaaad wrong on that J. Cole thing. He uses FL, you could see it in the MDL footage. JID was talking about Hollywood Cole the producer who made the beat for that freestyle!
Studio One without doubt is the best daw for music creation and mixing hands down, I upgraded to that from recently using Pro Tools and FL for beats(which I still use every so often). Less-popular topics like "arrangement" is something that is heavily slept on by amateurs and why most fall short, but when you start to really understand the ENTIRE record creation process then you'll realize the void between Pro Tools and Studio One. For the newbies here's a non-spoiler - i'de say Studio One is like FL + Pro Tools combined.
My friend produced melodic techno for top labels in 2012 and he did it all with laptop ableton and 200€ sennheiser headphones it was CRAZY!!! But i swear thats all he used and hus songs still sound great today!
The SubPac that you were referring to (version 1) was a chair attachment or portable/wearable vest. It feels like wearing a 12 inch subwoofer that represents your low end. I have the first version that I use with Audeze CD-X headphones and the combination is dope, but I’d be careful of their latest version that’s been on pre-order for something like 3 years with mad delays and money issues. But if their latest version was to come ever come out, I’d buy it in a second because that running back-and-forth to the car sh!t ended the day I got mine. There is an alternative to the SubPac and it’s by a company called WOOJER. Also be aware these wearable bass devices are not just for studio use, you can also use them for gaming or just listening to music while out and about or working out like jogging for example.✌🏾
Not sure when this was recorded but ngl Kendrick shouting out pro tools on the heart pt. 6 definitely had me thinking about switching daws for a minute.
Courtney!! When JID said "cole load up the ableton" he was talking about the producer Hollywood Cole he produced his song Sistanem and some others, he uses an Ableton Push
Bro, i'm a.mix engineer and don't even want to hang out with Dave just to ask him stuff, he seems like he could describe anything and you would be happy.
21:17 they do make one Subpac makes like a vest you can wear that translates lowend so you can feel it while you produce. It’s more popular in the EDM community. I have never tried one EDIT: of course yall already knew and brought it up like a minute later LOL 😂
The best DAW is the one you use. If you learn your DAW, have skill, talent, and decent knowledge, you can make whatever work. So it’s all about preference. There is no best, just what best suits you.
The headphones at Ben Thomas’s has are the Audeze LCD-X ($1200), but people have them on EBay for as low as $650. Another good headphone to get are the VSX headphones, they’re online for $100 off right now, they are normally $500.
I would love to know yalls thoughts on 1. The new line of UAD Gen 2 interfaces and the upgrades they did to the converters And 2. The UAD Console program and your opinion if you would run a chain on that first, then into your daw (which will make the chain permanent into the recording) OR Just run my chain like normal in my daw and skip the whole UAD console thing (It just kind of seems like extra steps, and yes I am aware it will help with latency but I don’t struggle with that)
FL Studio, Soundtrap, Studio One and nTrack are very comprehensible. It's not brain science with them unless they're bugging. I remember trying to use ProTools and I was pissed the hell off. I'm not interested in having to read a damn manual just to record or use MIDI. Ableton is also a pain in the arse.
Get some IEMs. Theres so many really good sets now and are constantly dropping new ones. My favorite right now is the Letshuoer S08 which is a planar thats tuned really good, it has a warm sound profile. I just go the Supermix 4 which is really nice too, but sounds much better to me with EQ, because the stock tuning is tuned perfectly to the Harman 2019 target, which has kind of recessed mid bass and mids. The thing with IEMs is you can easily tune them to other targets/IEMs with auto eq on squig sites.
To effectively mix on headphones you need to dial in a Harman EQ curve and put in on your master bus while you mix. Just remember to disable it before you render anything.
Came back to this video to say thanks. I tried the Harman curve and my mix came out way better. Also if anyone has Tb morphit, it has a Harman setting in it.

Courtney maaaaad wrong on that J. Cole thing. He uses FL, you could see it in the MDL footage. JID was talking about Hollywood Cole the producer who made the beat for that freestyle!
Bruh I was about to say
Cole just publicly admitted he uses Abelton to cook up beats and record on his audio series

Logic Pro is the one. However, cats need to recognize Cubase globally. Cubase is more widely used around the world than most of the other DAWs

XLN AUDIO should lease their XO drums to Logic as their drum sequencer and it would be over
My friend produced melodic techno for top labels in 2012 and he did it all with laptop ableton and 200€ sennheiser headphones it was CRAZY!!! But i swear thats all he used and hus songs still sound great today!

I really wanna leave Pro Tools and go to Studio One but just can’t do it 😂. Too many PT sessions on my computer
I use Studio One for my rock stuff and it’s a great DAW, great recording capabilities but a steep learning curve than FL definitely.
I died when LJ said 71 😂😂😂😂
Just upgraded from some 4.5 in JBL monitors to 7 in Atem Audio monitors. My room is shaking (Ableton User)
This was very helpful
According to Los Angeles film and recording school 2024 pro tools is still the industry standard go Devon you tell em

Cubase it’s not going to die out. There backed by Yamaha, plus a lot of Cubase is used for film scoring rather then music(hip-hop)

Ableton is also very popular combo with the new MPC's, which also have the capability to export as an Ableton project file

Or maybe just wear a pair of flat headphones like the 650’s. Why would u EQ the master track before the busses…?
Proof?
Came back to this video to say thanks. I tried the Harman curve and my mix came out way better. Also if anyone has Tb morphit, it has a Harman setting in it.
