Hey enamel will be good for rims. I would recommend using a spray gun because you can add a hardener in the mix. This will make it alot more harder wearing.
Ah I see, will have to do some more research on that because I did do a quick search to check if they are different before you said it but I found the same products listed as both putty/filler primer. Might be a topic for a video!?
Between you and mighty car mods I'm being kept busy! Thanks mate.
has anyone sanded and budded at the end???
i know its common to do on a top clear coat, not sure on a gloss enamel paint tho ??
U friggn know it alls R hilarious.
Have u seen this guys work and videos. He has Raw talent.
Look at his Custom paint jobs.
His work is flawless. Everyone does it different. It's the end result.
This paint isn't going to crake or fade anytime soon. Great Job !!!!
I'm not being a know it all. I'm a professional painter that works in the Aerospace industry. I was offering advice on the correct way to do it. Do it how you like. I just didn't want someone to watch this very well shot and choreographed video and think it was the proper way to do it.
ZX9RinHollywood Yep, well shot vid, good end result, but for a guy whos "custom spraymods" he has no fuckin idea on how to prep and repair a dent. lots of bad info for beginners here. a thick coat of filler over old paint and primer, etch primer over everything except bare metal and acrylic spray putty just waiting to shrink. a recipe for disaster. i dont like to hang shit on guys having a go at repairs but in the 21st century there is just no excuses for passing on bad info on improper repair techniques
ZX9RinHollywood
Would you please point me into the right direction of some info. Serious, i'm doing some research to repair some pieces on a CB350 and unsure how to go about it. Thanks
Richard Ortiz Your going to have to be more specific than that. What do you want to know?
I have 2 dented fork covers that I was planning on filling with bondo. Since they're small parts I thought after they're filled/primed/painted, it wouldnt be noticable if I sanded well enough. Is there an order I should know when I'm prepping for the bondo? Besides sanding and degreasing prior to filling, what else would I do to make a cleaner finish? And how much sanding afterwards? You commented on laying too much bondo on top of the previous primer/paint, should I just use aircraft remover and strip the area i'm going to be filling? Information such as this since i've never tried filling anything. I have a rusted and dented tank I was planning on filling also so I was going to see how well this went to see if it's a viable option.
Very nice bike, is it a Kawasaki Ninja? good video.
Maybe a dumb question, but why not 2k clear over this? Because it's enamel?
Hey this might be asking a bit much but could you maybe do a quick price summary too at the end? Thanks! Great videos man, just subscribed!
Ever had an insect land on your project? It looks great!
Oh yes that was a different product. Spray putty and filler primer are different. Thanks
Thank you!!! I'll be doing this to my tank!
Nice tutorial.. I need tips from the experts. What clear coat can prevent damage from petrol spill? Pls help.
I love the channel, but holy shit that's a lot of plastic! why didn't you take some of the dent out with a stud gun or something? also you need to do a video of a spot job with spray cans using factory metallic paint. I painted some of my 97 prelude using these spray cans but my dad bumped a curb so now I have to fix it and don't have a shop or gun. any suggestions? the color is eucalyptus metallic green pearl (Honda factory color)
Nice Video. Also love the Ute!
If I use a primer filler, would I need the spray putty?
cool video buddy , just wondering have you ever gotten any dents out of the tail gate of ur ute lol ?
Don't forget if your bike is fuel injected there's a pump in the tank do you want to be careful not to overheat that or the wires in hoses in the tank
Thanks for the vid
How would you add decals to this paint job, sticker them on after colour paint then clear coat
over the top?
Remember, only use automobile/metal sanding paper. There is a difference between sandpaper for wood & metal. Get the automotive stuff @ any auto parts store.
Wet sanding paper (black ) is all the same, no ?
obvs the black sandpaper not for wood. thats the brown
great job where would i buy the enamel paint in a can here in australia
Hey Dave. i was just wondering what primer i can put on bare metal. also is it ok to put that amount of bog on a car?
Thanks for the info man! Surely gonna help me in my build
Hi Dave, Can you use Enamel paint on any sort of metal? Can it be used on plastic body parts as well?
on the back fender of the bike is the same design as labjapans old mx5
Hi Dave! How hard wearing is this enamel? Would it be suitable to paint a set of steel rims with? Cheers in advance!
Nice job brother..
Nice video and nice job !
Thanks !
Do i spot a VL commodore under a cover?
Sick episode mate, if only I had a dint to repair haha
Hey thanks. Thats good that this vid helped you. At 7:28 I am putting a coat of primer over the filler primer (Spray Putty) Primer is always needed over spray putty no matter what your painting. Cheers
Just do same thing if u want a quick fix body filler nd sand it
great video , great advice. thanks
how did using this much filler work out long term? you have to pull it out and repaint? got a deep dent in my tank wana use bondo but dono it'll hold up
It won't hold metal expand and contract body filler won't stretch and contract
Nice repair.
isnt that bondo just going to crackle up again after a while?
Nice
like the new hair cut.
do u work for vgauto? can i pay u to spray my door? lol
i followed ur spray can tutorial FIVE TIMES and totally messed up my door :(
Nice job!
that dent should really be panel beated out. thats big.
great job
nice video - thanks
great video, thanks for the tips :)
Is that a blow up doll in the background at 9:36? ROFL.
Interesting.
That's a Huge Dent
Wow just wow
get ready to do this again in a few months when your 2 inches of filler starts to crack again .... the money you have to spend to buy body filler, sand paper, grease remover, primer, basecoat and clear is double of what you would spend if you took it to a body shop... do it right or dont do it!!!
Thanks for the reply! Toss you an email on your site about some questions :)
this is not repairing a dent, this is covering it up.
FIRST REMOVE THE DENT BEFORE FILLING...THIS IS COSMETICS BUT NOT REPAIR:::REALLY BAD JOB!
Nice!!!
Thought you may have tried to pull the dent out a bit more before bogging it.. Minimising how much bog you would need to use?
Bad Paint Work - sand 80g to 120g then 240g. Filler primer - 400g wet then 800g wet color, clear wet sand 1500g then use cutting compound then polish.
Wow - seriously great effort. I recently redid the front of my old van to remove rust - it looks not bad actually. Given me a bit of a encouragement to try and fix more of the old girl up!
This video is good for a diy quick fix only. This was not the proper way to sand, apply body filler or paint.
A quality paint job lasts for years.
Body filler can't be applied that thick. That's why it cracked in the first place. Also you didn't sand past the dent. Primer, paint and body filler can not grab onto shiny paint underneath. You have to sand past the dent. Anywhere that is getting paint, primer or body filler has to be sanded or at least scuffed with scotchbright. Also spraying etching primer over body filler is a no no. Etching primer has acid in it with is used to bite into bare metal. The acid will warp body filler if sprayed over top of it. I also didn't see any instructions about feather edging the body filler, which is why you probably had to use a sprayable acrylic putty to cover your horrible bodywork. Acrylic putty is also a no no. It's old technology that is no longer used because they didn't have anything better back in the day. Acrylic putty shrinks over time in the sun. Causing cracking, waves, pinholes to reappear, etc.
+ZX9RinHollywood Let's see you vids of spray jobs knobhead.
Hello, wandering which primer can use over the body filler? and the bare metal of a motorcycle tank?
Hey you should use etch primer on bare metal. Yes this much bog will hold up on a car. I have seen more then this used on cars before.
Good aye, firstly thank you for a very informative video, withou a long winded story I have just had a auto paint supplier/shop tell me I have to paint my tank with 2 pack enamel.....is this correct? Plus they claim spray cans never give a good finish - like other comments here Ive been quited a ridiculous amount to repair a dent and paint.
Love your videos please keep them coming, regards Monty
Thanks a lot for this video, was really handy, my tank came out really nicely, did my primer this afternoon, and will do my final coat in the next couple of days after sanding etc. Legendary mate, thanks a lot.
Yep I got a few quotes from panel beaters they want $600+ to repair a old kd80 tank i'm doing. Stuff that I'd rather try it myself. Even if I stuff up a few times its not going to be $600 ha ha
What’s the point in using filler again only crack again quick fix it is not you should have pulled dents out make a better job
Haa its a mannequin used in clothing shops. Its our security system aka Home Alone.
@kingtube69 yep sure can use it on any metal or plastic with the suitable primer..
Thanks mate. Here in Sydney the total price of everything would be about $70-$80.
Will it crack after a year or 2
I thought this guy was really going to repair the tank. All he did was remove some bondo and pack in new bondo. Ugh.
Hi Mate, Great channel!! Fantastic Videos! I followed one of your other vids and painted my plastic engine parts and had great results. In that video you didn't use primer after the filler spray - why is it different with the fuel tank? Is it just because its metal ? or to do with the finish? or something else?...
Would like to know... All the best!
Youve motivated me to give this a go! I love the detail! wish me luck. Just need to get a colour match paint to my fairings
I have had it to get my sleep 💤
Didnt have one.
Awesome video. Your instructions saved me $300
Matt Amiri good work mate.
Beautiful method & end result
Thanks for the reply mate. I'll remember that for future projects. What I actually meant was in that in your old video "spraying plastic engine parts" you didn't use a primer again after the filler primer - you went straight to the colour coat so I was just double checking your preferred technique now. Filler primer is great stuff btw :)
I've never used spray cans to paint a motorcycle before so bear with me. can you still put a clear coat over your finish product. The reasoning being is, I have decals that have to go over the finish coat, and I need to clear coat them to help them stay on. I have another ? when I use a clear coat, what product can I spray on, that will prevent damage if gasoline hits paint job.
fuck a lot of layers huh
i bought mine at super cheap, could get it at repco also, mine is a high heat paint, i dont think it matters that much, maybe takes longer to cure, but i bought it mainly for my engine, i think they would have normal enamel also
Good job thanks
Dave, (I enjoy the videos). One question, if you need to use enamel on a bike's tank, I assume that you need to use enamel on the rest of it for safety from petrol spi of it
Self Etching primer isn't used just on bare metal? (For what I know they have some acid in them, that stop rust)
How many hours did this take? (work hours, not counting waiting for primer/paint to dry)
Awesome Paint job!
What body filller should I use on my motorcycle tank
Is that a normal Enamel Spray . Or is it like High Gloss?
Okay, great! Thanks heaps for the advice!
So recently I fixed a couple of nasty dents on my gas tank but when the paint dried I can see where I put bondo. It smooth and the shape is right does anybody know what could have done wrong?
Possibly used too much hardener. This can cause it to bleed through.
@@customspraymods even on flat black?
@@lionx4764 yes the peroxide in the hardener is string stuff
@@customspraymods damn ok could there be a way to salvage it or would I have to re do the hole thing again?
Caro Dave non sai tenere le spatola in mano chissà che porcheria hai combinato
That will crack again in no time. Filler shouldn't be more than a 1/8 inch and can't be applied over paint.
D V it's been over 5 years with no problem. So I think you might be wrong.
@@customspraymods definitely not. Bog isn't supposed to be that think as it has different expansion rates then metal which is multiplied with depth.
D V that's all well and good but the filler has not cracked or become defective. So maybe there is a factor your not considering.
This is not a repair 😂 this is just cheap ass “work”
Awesome video! The ONLY thing I would have done differently is removing the tank prior to the initial bondo sanding. Seems like a small task but no need to get the sanded dust all over the rest of the bike. Keep em coming!
Dude you could have started with a puller ....
Get a little fuel capacity back .
Big old gob of filler .
That will likely pop again from expansion contraction. ..doh !!
