Mad respect for you for learning from this experience. I’m all for going balls to the walls and sending it, but 90% of us aren’t going to want to do anything that seems too extreme with our cars. How does one go about putting the correct miles on the odometer with a new engine? With vin of old car?
They keep the miles on the odometer the same. You installed a new engine thats it, the transmission, diff, transfercase, body, suspension still have the 40k or whatever miles he had. Putting a new engine doesnt reset the odometer

sick swap. it is a nightmare not knowing how the engine was maintained. i got lucky oil consumption from stuck piston rings and worn vanos gears both dealt with

Very nice video - just stumbled upon your it ! Did you - by any chance - get an opportunity to weight the engine ? I was pretty curios - tech sheets say 139 kg but BMW is sometimes very vague with the information , it's better if you get to verify the information at first hand. Seemed pretty light by the way it was manhandled.

That fluid transfer pump looked annoying to deal with an HDX 2 gallon pump sprayer from Home Depot does the job much better can hold all the fluid the transmission needs at once and doesn't require as much pumping.

they just installed a new turbo from dynamic autowerx and was getting ready to dyno it and then before they got a run in it started to develop rod knock
